Filled to capacity with aspiring songwriters, the students at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at NYU were on their feet to welcome Alicia Keys. The event, moderated by MTV correspondent Sway Calloway, was an opportunity for the school to showcase Keys' humanitarian and philanthropic efforts and also a chance for the songstress to share details about her creative process. The New York City native talked how she came up with a new approach to writing for her forthcoming album, The Element of Freedom.
"The only thing I really understood was [working] to the point of exhaustion," Keys said. "All I really understood was just submersing myself in it to a point of just possibly drowning. Not in a bad way, but in a sense of that was all I did all the time every second.

The sexy Hollywood couple have two children, Alexander, 2, and Samuel, 10 months. “I still can’t believe it when I look at my children that they come from one little moment and they’re people,” gushed Watts.
The Australian also said that advertising funds her artistic decisions because she can choose less profitable movie roles.
“When things like that come along, you’re really flattered and also very relieved because ... it helps to be able to say, OK, I’m going to go off and work for a number of weeks and be paid nothing basically and then be able to fall back on endorsements.”

Back home on the west coast, Hilary Duff was spotted out getting prettied up at Ken Paves Hair Salon in West Hollywood on Thursday (October 22).
After spending three hours getting her hair done, the former “Lizzie McGuire” star ended up running into a bit of a problem as she exited the salon - getting a parking ticket from local patrolmen.
As previously reported by Gossip Center, Miss Duff was recently situated in New York City as she filmed her new ABC movie, “The Business of Falling in Love”.
The romantic comedy “will star Duff as a fashion reporter who goes undercover in the business world in the hopes of finding love while writing an article about dating men in suits.”

“She’s tougher than I am. She has a good head on her shoulders. Maybe it was different for me because I didn’t know what to expect and it just happened really fast. I didn’t have a big sister,” spilled the actress.
And it sounds like Ali does know when to stop and focus on school. “She’s really good about that. If I’m going out late, she’ll go home early,” said LiLo.

As previously reported by Gossip Center, Kourtney Kardashian’s home in Calabasas, Ca. was broken into on Saturday night while she and boyfriend Scott were out for dinner.
Taken from the home was hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry, including a $30,000 Cartier diamond watch and vintage jewelry her father, Robert Kardashian, had had left his daughter after his passing.
Reports are now claiming that it may be an inside job.
Scott’s grandmother recently passed away and left him expensive jewelry which he also gave to Kourtney.
The couple left for dinner at 7:00 pm on Saturday and then returned around 8:30 pm and found that their home had been broken into.
Sources think the thieves got into the gated house and knew that the jewelry was there and where it was stored since they grabbed it all so fast.
Unfortunately, they have not been caught as of yet, though police continue to make sure that justice is served.

She stated, “I know there are problems with my stomach. There are bumps on it, it’s uneven, but it’s not that bad. My stomach scars are my battle wounds.”
Years ago, the actress went under the knife for liposuction and implants that completely went wrong. But, even though she stopped drinking and has been exercising, Reid garnered 85% of People magazine readers’ votes calling her “Not Hot.”

It was a shock to music fans when Lady GaGa and Kanye West cancelled their “Fame Kills” tour. And the “Just Dance” diva explained it was just a case of bad timing.
GaGa told press, “It just wasn’t the right timing. I don’t want to embellish on it too much, because I want to respect Kanye’s privacy. But we just had our own reasons.”
She continued, “We’re real friends, real friends can make decisions like that, and we wanted to keep the momentum going in terms of pop music staying innovative with hip-hop and R&B, and we really wanted to do it, and it just wasn’t the right time. But who’s to say what will happen in the future?”
In the meantime, Lady GaGa will be launching her own “Monster Ball” this fall, including an all-new set design. “I’m certainly inspired by what we were doing, but I made a decision based on integrity not to use any of the things that we had designed together. I wanted to really put together a show that would be the most beautiful, expensive-looking, delicious show, but that my fans wouldn’t have to pay a ton of money to come see.”

After several weeks of high-intensity breakup rumors, the pair have been spotted together in Vancouver, where Jessica is currently shooting a film. When the rumors first kicked in, Jessica dragged Justin out for what everyone thought was an obvious photo op. But they haven?t bothered to be within a hundred miles since then, and it seemed like they were definitely dunzo. But photos of the pair taken in Vancouver yesterday show them looking happy and normal. Damn.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were snapped at The Naam, a Vancouver, Canada restaurant on Wednesday, shooting down rumors the celebrity couple recently broke up after two-and-a-half years together.
Rumors that the couple had split went into overdrive earlier this month when Timberlake?s grandmother Sadie Bomar told a British magazine that she thinks the only thing JT is committed to is his career.
“Jessica was keen to marry, but Justin isn’t ready,” Bomar told Closer. “He’s busy writing new material and he works hard to be successful — he’s really focused on that. As far as we’re concerned, he’s always been single. The girlfriends come and go, but we believe nothing has ever been serious,” the grandmother added. “Justin does his own thing and he isn’t ready to marry just yet.”

The thing with Justin?s grandma has always struck me as suspicious. First off, he?s very close with his family and they don?t seem to talk to the press. Secondly, while Justin?s grandma is American, the phrase ?keen to marry? is very British. As is the magazine Closer. And British magazines are infamous for making up quotes. You can generally tell when they fabricate something if they have an American supposedly saying something in a very British way. I?m not saying it isn?t legit, because I don?t know. But I?m taking it with a grain of salt.
I do wish these two would break up and move on already. Jessica is the human equivalent of tapioca putting. Vanilla tapioca pudding. She often mentions how beautiful she is, and it?s sorta like? well yeah, if you have a team of professional makeup artists, you?re beautiful. We all would be under those circumstances. And I have yet to see any evidence that she has a personality. Katie Holmesbot shows more life than Jessica. End it, one of you. Unless you?re just too overcome by each other?s beauty.

Salma Hayek is promoting her supporting role in Cirque du Freak: The Vampire?s Assistant, which looks like a heaping turd of a film. It?s actually Salma?s first movie role since giving birth to Valentina in September of 2007. Of course, Salma had a recurring role on 30 Rock, but I wonder what in God?s name possessed her to make this her big film comeback role. She probably doesn?t even care, honestly. She married billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, so she probably just takes acting gigs for some amusement when she?s not bathing in solid gold.
Anyhoodle, Salma talked to Parade about The Vampire?s Assistant, where she plays a bearded lady in the circus. Oh, and her character is in love with John C. Reilly?s character. Why, oh why is John in this movie too? Oh, Mr. Cellophane. Salma also talks about how she doesn?t really have a good body. Ah? yeah, right. I would kill for Salma?s ?not that great? body.
Vampire love.
“I don?t have a fascination with vampires, but my character is madly in love with one played by John C. Reilly. All she wants is for this guy to love her for who she is and settle down. Isn?t that what most women want? Actually, I found the freaks a lot more interesting than the vampires. We had everything from snake boy to wolfman. I would have been any one of them even though I ended up as the bearded lady.”
About that beard.
“I haven?t had this much facial hair since I had those fuzzy eyebrows in Frida. Everybody said, ?Oh, my God. You look so hot with the beard.? It?s like when people tell you, ‘You look gorgeous,’ when you are pregnant. You are like a swollen whale and never looked worse in your life. And somebody goes, ?You?re glowing.? They don?t have the courage to tell you how bad you look.”
Her baby daughter was OK with it.
“Valentina saw me with the beard and seemed to understand it was only makeup. She was seven months old and she was not freaking out. I let her watch me when they put it on, which took hours and she was fascinated. And, she knew not to touch it. I kept my daughter with me the whole time we were filming because otherwise I don?t see her the whole day. She?s an amazing child. At nine months old she was already walking and talking.”
The real freaks.
“I think what?s freaky is those guys with the cameras who are so desperate and so excited because they?re seeing you walk into a supermarket and they want to get a picture. I think that?s freaky. They?re the freaks. I?m not a freak but, I?m being attacked by the freaks sometimes. That?s the strange part.”
If she hadn?t been an actress.
“Growing up, I thought about wanting to be a contortionist or maybe a trapeze artist. I would have loved to do something gymnastic. I had another fantasy. Have you ever heard of the group ?Up With People?? They?re not a circus troupe, but they came to our city in Mexico when I was a kid doing motivational performances and singing songs about the power we have to change things. I had a dream of going away with them — just going from town to town and being in their show to help promote world peace. That was my real secret fantasy.”
Why she knew Ugly Betty would be a hit.
“It was my chance to produce a TV show and I wanted to do something that would connect with an audience the way the series did on Colombian TV where it was called Yo Soy Betty La Fea. I think people love an underdog who can be successful, a person that is not conventional in how they look or the way they talk. Betty proves that if you?re smart and a hard worker, you can get ahead in life anyway.”
The definition of ugly.
“I don’t think Betty is really ugly, but what do we call ugly now? It?s anybody that is not super-skinny and really tall. Some people think they?re ugly just because they don?t reach that standard. I personally have seen a lot of really skinny tall models that maybe I think are ugly and they need to eat a little to look healthy. So I think we?re having a little fun with the concept of ugly on the show and people get a kick out it.”
Sometimes she feels a little ugly herself.
“I won a ‘Best Body Award’ from Fitness Magazine and I was too embarrassed to accept it. I actually don’t have a good body, but if everybody thinks so, I guess it means I’m a good actress. I have acted the part of the girl who has a very good body. If you know how to dress, there’s some tricks you can pull.”
Why she?s made a commitment to Ventanarosa, her production company.
“I think it empowers you as a woman because you become more creative and self-sufficient, and it lets you grow as a person because you?re in control, you have the power, and you can create jobs. I?m a passionate girl, passionate about a lot of things. But, there is a variety in the passion and some of it is harder to live with. Producing is hell. Writing is frustrating. Acting is really satisfying. Directing is heaven.”

Leaving the Mayfair hotel, the British glamour babe was out for an appearance on “This Morning” to boost interest in her new book ‘Standing Out, My Look, My Style, My Life’ Shown on ITV.
During the interview, Miss Price defended her position in the recent divorce from Peter Andre, telling, “For four months I did keep my mouth shut, but I’m only human.”
“I don’t want it to be a public spat. All I want to do is meet up with Pete, but he won’t meet up,” she adds.
As for the constant coverage of her split, Katie tells, “I agree, it’s so boring seeing the headlines everyday - a lot of it is lies I must say and people believe it, but I’m bored of it now myself. I read it in the papers like everyone else.”

Sienna has a reputation for enjoying high-profile relationships and has previously dated Jude Law, Rhys Ifans and Balthazar Getty.
But the paper added to her well-documented relationship history, [linking] ‘Serial Miller’ to Sean Combs and the late Heath Ledger.
It later apologized: ‘An article… about Sienna Miller misstates the nature of the relationships that she had with Heath Ledger and Sean Combs. She was friends with both of them; she did not have romantic flings with either of them.’
Well, since the New York Times is extending the olive branch, I think I’d like to take this opportunity to tell Sienna Miller I’m sorry. Sorry she’s such a slut, that is! Ha ha! I bet it feels like you’re feeding a goddamn horse when you put your hands down that girl’s pants.

Nicole Kidman conceded Wednesday that Hollywood has probably contributed to violence against women by portraying them as weak sex objects.The Oscar-winning actress said she is not interested in those kinds of demeaning roles, adding that the movie industry also has made an effort to contribute to solutions for ending the violence.Kidman testified before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee that is considering legislation to address violence against women overseas through humanitarian relief efforts and grants to local organizations working on the problem.Asked by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., if the movie industry has “played a bad role,” Kidman said “probably,” but quickly added that she herself doesn’t.“I can’t be responsible for all of Hollywood but I can certainly be responsible for my own career,” she said.Kidman appeared before the committee in her role as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Development Fund for Women, known as UNIFEM, to promote the International Violence Against Women Act.“In the real world, the laws go unenforced and impunity is the norm,” she said.The legislation has stalled in the past, but a sponsor, Rep. Bill Delahunt, D-Mass., said he and others plan to reintroduce it soon.The Australian star told Congress that the U.N. women’s fund needs more resources. “We need the money,” she said.Before the hearing began, a crowd of people lined the hall and around the corner to hear her speak.

I still have a month-and-a-half to go. I was 110 or 115 and now weigh 150.”How do you feel about the weight gain? “There are things I love about it. I love that my hips are growing, even though it hurts. Surprising no one, Star Magazine?s cover story this week is total crap. They claim that Nicole Richie and Joel Madden got married a few weeks ago. If that was the basic gist of the report, I wouldn?t think anything of it. After all, a bunch of different sources were running variations on the ?Joel and Nicole might be secretly married? story, including us. Star Magazine took it to a different level though. According to Star, ?The long-time loves exchanged vows during an intimate at-home ceremony on Oct. 14 with Joel’s brother and bandmate Benji as a witness. But the couple were hardly alone on their big day. They were actually married — along with 45,000 other people worldwide! — as part of a mass wedding by the Unification Church.? Of course this was crap. Joel Madden called Star Magazine out with a low-key, two-sentence posting on Good Charlotte?s website:
Hold those congratulations: Nicole Richie and Joel Madden haven’t gotten hitched. The new issue of Star claims they’ve wed, but Madden, 30, denies it on his band’s website.
“I keep getting emails from old friends and family asking about a wedding. NO we didn’t get married,” he blogs.
Richie, 28, and Madden are parents to 1-month Sparrow and 21-month-old daughter Harlow.
Last May, they said they have no immediate plans to wed.
“I think for both of us, we are going to do it because we want to, not because that’s what you do,” Richie told CNN’s Larry King. “We’re going to do it when the time’s right.”
Added Madden, “We’re really focused on our family, and … we already feel kind of married, you know? Our family system that we have down, we feel like this is a real family and marriage, one day it will come.”

What more is there to say? They might get married at some point, they might not. It?s their business, and they seem to be keeping their stuff pretty private these days, save for the odd People Magazine cover celebrating their cute kids. Most sources claim that Joel is the one who really wants to get married, and that Nicole is the one who doesn?t seem to care. I have no idea if that?s the case. But I do hope that both of them agree on their decision not to marry. I?d hate to think either of them was holding some kind of grudge.

Making her way to the nation’s capital to raise awareness on important matters, Nicole Kidman spoke during the International Violence Against Women: Stories and Solutions hearing at Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, DC on Wednesday (October 21).
The “Eyes Wide Shut” actress added a little star power to a delegation which testified before the US House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee about dealing with International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight.
“These champions need and deserve our support. Not with a box of band aids but with a comprehensive, well-funded approach that acknowledges that women’s rights are human rights,” Nicole said to the panel of Subcommittee members.
At the current time, Congress is in the midst of deciding whether or not to vote in favor of the International Violence Against Women Act.
