Scarlett Johansson remains an awards season loser after the Independent Spirit Awards. She even lost Best Actress to Renee Zellweger at the Spirit Awards, which is crazy, I guess, although Judy did look like a somewhat inexpensive film. ScarJo has been taking the losses in stride, perhaps shes even genuinely happy to be invited to the party (this are her first-ever Oscar nominations). So ScarJo is in a good mood, which might explain her hair for years, we?ve been waiting for her to go back to longish blonde hair and here we are. She looks great! The Balmain dress is not great, but whatever. She seems like she was having a nice time.

On the plus side, my nemesis Laura Dern didn?t win the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress. On the other hand, neither did Jennifer Lopez! That award went to The Farewell?s Zhao Shuzhen, who could not travel to the LA for Oscar weekend because of the Cononavirus. The way it ended up, Jennifer Lopez didn?t even get on stage at the Spirit Awards! Which is horrible if you have J.Lo at your weird tent-awards show, put her on stage for something! Alas, it did not happen. Jennifer was all glammed out with no place to go other than her giant mansion and probably a million Oscar parties. Most people wear suits or simple boho looks for the Spirit Awards. Not J.Lo she wore this great, glam Valentino look and she looked amazing. While she didn?t get on stage, she was front and center and there were tons of cutaways.

Im sorry for the dumb alliterative title but I couldnt help myself! Its Sunday and we have the Oscars tonight, let me have this. Naomi Watts was in a Pink floral watercolor print Chanel gown with black straps and asymmetric ruffles. For part of the Spirits red carpet she had a black jacket draped over it. This looks cute without the jacket and has a flapper vibe. I like how it moved on camera but its not photographing as well. The white and black shoes are all wrong and are throwing this off.

Booksmart ended up winning Best First Film at the Independent Spirit Awards. Olivia Wilde was a first-time feature director, and having recently seen Booksmart, I do agree that Olivia deserved some recognition for the work. She was super-pleased about it too! Fashion-wise, Olivia was like Jennifer Lopez in that she overdressed a bit in this big Fendi gown. I guess it was supposed to look boho, but was it really? Mostly, I just think it was the wrong color.
