Like 100-200 million more.Whatever it takes to keep Emily from actually getting a real job and keeps her Instagram model careergoing. So […]

| Jennifer Lopez in Valentino, with A-Rod at the Met Gala: ugh or amazing? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This post is devoted to some of the couples of the Met Gala, specifically the couples who decided to use the Met Gala as their red carpet couple-debut. The queen of this is obviously Jennifer Lopez, who seems incapable of walking a red carpet by herself. So of course her date was her boyfriend of five minutes, Alex Rodriguez. I wouldn?t be so grumpy about this except Jennifer is basically doing her old-school version of Jackie Kennedy in this Valentino. This has literally nothing to do with the theme and it would be better suited for the Oscars.

Selena Gomez came to the Met Gala with Bella Hadid?s Met Gala date from last year, The Weeknd. Selena and Abel were really feeling themselves too, and they also did the kissy-face posing on the carpet. I feel like a bitter old curmudgeon for saying this, but these kids today! Ugh. Selena wore Coach (because she has a Coach contract) and her dress was utterly boring. To make matters worse, Selena?s eye makeup was? hot pink. Ugh. Abel does look nice though.
Serena Williams wore green Versace. It wasn?t on-theme in the least, but it was a pretty and striking maternity gown. Serena rolled up to the Met Gala with Alexis Ohanian, her rich fiance and baby-daddy and then she made him stand off to the side so she could pose solo. They did pose for a few photos together, and Alexis basically looked so proud of the fact that Serena allowed him to get her pregnant.

Madonna keeps showing up at the Met Gala, even if she is no longer friends with the coolest girls in the room. Like, I don?t expect Madonna to arrive at the gala looking like Jennifer Lopez-Jackie Kennedy, but does she have to be so? youth-obsessed? This camouflage gown by Jeremy Scott is awful, and it belongs somewhere far, far away.

Claire Danes wore Monse. Shockingly, this was one of my favorite looks of the night. I was expecting more of this at the Met Gala – deconstructed menswear, crazy arrays of sleeves and ruffles. I was expecting to see more pants too. So? I don?t know, I think Claire nailed it. She looks great. And it?s always nice to see Hugh Dancy.
The point of La La Anthony?s look was that she was and is feeling herself after Carmelo Anthony probably cheated on her a lot. This Thai Nguyen Atelier gown is supposed to be ?I?m mysterious and sexy and single!? But I?m not feeling it at all.
Mindy Kaling in Prabal Gurung. It?s a pretty color on Mindy but that?s about the only nice thing I have to say. This is a dress for an awards show, not the Met Gala. This would have looked completely fine at the Oscars. But I honestly expect more from her because I know she loves clothes and fashion. Why, Mindy, why??

| Reese Witherspoon in Thierry Mugler at the Met Gala: pretty or plain? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

When Reese Witherspoon showed up at the Met Gala last night the E! panel crowed over the fact that she wasn’t wearing yet another mermaid gown. I guess Reese is as bad as Sophia Vergara when it comes to sticking to that one style, but she mixed it up somewhat in a one shoulder black and navy Thierry Mugler gown. That said, this is a rather boring look for the Met Gala. It’s got that one puffy sleeve and I like the bold cobalt ribbed fabric for the bodice. It isn’t a completely safe choice (see: Gwyneth Paltrow) and it’s very 80s Dynasty. Her makeup is 80s too so she’s consistent.

Here’s Doutzen Kroes in deep red Brock Collection. I love how the folded sleeves are only slightly different. You can see the attention to detail with the ribbing on the bodice. This is a fantastic gown that’s so subtly done and it does fit with the theme. Plus she just looks ethereal with that beachy hair and light makeup.
Miranda Kerr was really feeling herself in a silver Oscar de la Renta gown with a poppy print. like the other women who wore de la Renta last night she was not on theme on all. She looked like a cookie cutter princess though and she was obviously happy about that.
Lily Collins was a happy goth clown in black and Pink Giambattista Valli. Her styling is just awful. That wig! Also, this started off as pants with a bustier and then they threw that Pink tulle skirt on top. You know who might work this? Rooney Mara.

Janelle Monae is very much a black and white theme dresser. Just look at any of her events over the past year. She does black and white statement gowns and she goes bold and the Met Gala was the place for it. This is Ralph and Russo and it’s a giant gown with a bunch of different elements in keeping with the theme. Check out the high feathered collar and I especially like the messy layering of the skirt.

| Kylie Jenner in Versace at the Met Gala: cheap, cute or just' sad doll' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kylie Jenner somehow got to attend the Met Gala again this year. I don?t really get it? Like, I sort of understand the fashion industry?s acceptance of Kendall Jenner, but I don?t get the Kylie thing at all. Kylie isn?t even known for being that fashionable! Anyway, Kylie wore this Versace gown and people were comparing it to the Givenchy dress Beyonce wore a few years back. I loathed that Beyonce gown and I don?t care much for this either. I?ll say what I always say about Kylie: she is such a sad doll.
Now I feel sorry about including Julianne Moore in this post, but I wanted to throw in some extras. Julianne wore Calvin Klein and it?s not on-theme or even that special. But I bet she was comfortable?
Kate Bosworth looked like the Ghost of Met Galas Past in this Tory Burch gown. I don?t get it. Perhaps I never will.

| Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren at the Met Gala: Inspector Gadget chic? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Priyanka Chopra was one of the more meme-worthy looks from the 2017 Met Gala. Priyanka wore Ralph Lauren and she was the ?big name? in RL (sorry Rose Byrne). I mean? she went big. She went bold. She went for a dress that will be a big conversation. And if the theme was Burberry, I would be all for it. But this is just? not on-theme and not even bold enough. I did enjoy all of the Inspector Gadget jokes though. PS? Nick Jonas wore Ralph Lauren too, that?s why Priyanka and Nick posed together on the red carpet.
Rose Byrne wore Ralph Lauren, only this does not look like any RL gown that I?ve ever seen. It?s SO unflattering. Do you know how difficult it is to make an unflattering gown for Rose Byrne?? She?s pretty, she?s got a great figure, she can pull off almost anything. But this sucks. I think she was trying to go big and do an interpretation on the theme, but it just doesn?t work.

Michael B. Jordan was another dude in Ralph Lauren. I love this. I love that MBJ comes to these fashion events. I love that he cares about his style and that he cares enough to go to the Met Gala and network and all of that. He?s amazing.

| Celine Dion in Atelier Versace at the Met Gala: crazy or fun? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This was Celine Dion?s first Met Gala and she brought it, I guess. She is styled and dressed like Sarah Jessica Parker and is wearing Atelier Versace in what looks like a sparkly white t-shirt covered by an asymmetrical pinned-on bodice and a long wrap skirt. She also took the high hair trend next level with what look like ribbons and spikes embedded on top. This is embracing the theme definitely. With that hair and that dress she should have gone for lighter makeup though. I think that’s what’s reminding me of Sarah Jessica Parker, the heavy dark eye makeup. Speaking of SJP, where was she last night? Did Celine take her place?
Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys wore matchy black custom Rag and Bone outfits, with Matthew in a kilt and Keri in a tuxedo jacket and pants, which is clever as anything. I googled ?do Welsh men wear kilts? and found that they do, although it?s relatively new as the kilt originated in Scotland of course. I guess it?s called a cilt there. Keri?s makeup and hair are killer. I love these two so much.

Laura Dern wore this navy cutout Gabriela Hearst gown featuring squares at the bustline and a graphic polka dot print back. This is a bit plain for the theme but the details add interest. Plus her styling is lovely and understated. Gorgeous necklace.

| Gisele Bundchen in Stella McCartney at the Met Gala: boring, extra or fine? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Tom Brady had too many family commitments to visit Donald Trump?s White House two weeks ago. But wouldn?t you know? His family stuff cleared up in time for the Met Gala! How shocking. Granted, Tom and Gisele were named the Met Gala co-chairs months ago, so it was something he could build his schedule around. Plus, Tom and Gisele love to perform their love at the Met Gala. It is their thing. And they were in rare form last night. They were some of the first people to arrive, and they literally stood there and made out, all alone in front of the bank of photographers on either side of the carpet.
As for Gisele?s dress? she wore Stella McCartney. If this was what she wore to the Oscars or to Cannes, I would express some joy that Stella fell backwards into a design that sort of works. But since this is the Met Gala? Jesus, how boring. You?re going to show up to this year?s Met Gala in this boring-ass silver dress which looks like every other dress you?ve ever worn? And my God, I really HOPE and PRAY that Gisele talks more about how natural she is again. I want to see her try to form those words through a face full of Botox. As for Lurch Brady, that haircut is awful.
Speaking of boring, Anna Wintour rarely applies the Met Gala theme to her own style. I guess she figures? hey, she?s organizing the event, she should get to wear whatever she wants. If I was in her position, I think I would at least attempt to wear the theme-designer though. Anna wore Chanel, like every other year.

| Katie Holmes in Zac Posen at the Met Gala: boring fishtail gown or glamorous? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Katie Holmes was in Zac Posen last night and she came with Posen as her date. I have a confession to make – remember when I gushed over Zac Posen’s purses in this Kendall Jenner post a couple of weeks ago? Well I bought this one from Off 5th. It’s not very practical because the sides flap open and it has just one inside compartment but it’s gorgeous and I love it. So I’m a Posen apologist. I know that about half of you didn’t like the princess gown he created for Claire Danes at the Met Gala last year, but it was one of my favorites. So to me this is a great gown on Katie but totally underwhelming. It’s just a very nice fishtail gown with a tiered ruffled train and tiered sleeves. The top isn’t even fitted properly, like it was intended for another woman and Katie got it last minute. I expected more from him, frankly. Katie’s jewelry is amazing and her makeup is very good too. I shouldn’t like smudged blue eyeshadow but somehow it works.
Zoe Kravitz was in Oscar de la Renta and I like her styling but this dress is meh to me. It’s just a Pink satin off shoulder gown with a cape and train and some black floral poofs stuck on it. It has drama but I feel like we’ve seen this several times before.
Daisy Ridley was cute in an Oscar de la Renta gown featuring a black tank and a bold black and white floral print high-low skirt. This is lovely but it?s more for a lesser awards ceremony than the Met Gala. It doesn?t really fit the theme. They were raving over her topknot on E! Her hair does look very cool and I just love her makeup. Some of the cat eye looks last night were to die for.

| Kendall Jenner in La Perla couture at the Met Gala: sexy or bland? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|

|
|
Kendall Jenner is currently under contract with La Perla, so the lingerie house decided to venture into (insert sarcasm quotes) “haute couture” this year. This was the result: Kendall in a dress that was just glittery netting. I saw some fashion-professionals bitching about Kendall?s vibe and her posing on the carpet, and I sort of see their point, which was: this dress requires a sort of coquettish sexiness that Kendall just doesn?t have. She posed on the carpet like she was posing for bargain catalogue work. While there?s nothing wrong with having a more wholesome, girl-next-door vibe, don?t wear a dress that you can?t properly ?work.?
Mary J. Blige also wore La Perla. This just looks like lingerie to me, even more so than Kendall?s. It doesn?t have anything to do with the theme and it?s not even a cute dress in general. The point of this is probably ?Mary is a single lady again and she?s sexy!? If that?s the point? sure. I?ll go with that.

Paris Jackson also wore Calvin Klein, like Goop. Paris is a little bit don?t-look-at-me-look-at-me-don?t-look-at-me, but this was her first Met Gala and? whatever. Sure. I don?t really care enough to have an opinion on her dress. I?ll give her this: her hair looks great here.

| Salma Hayek in Balenciaga at the Met Gala: bizarre or interesting? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
I feel like Salma Hayek is kind of over at this point, or maybe it’s just that I’m personally over her. She wears designs by her husband’s various labels and they it’s like they put her in the worst looks thinking she’s fashion-forward enough to pull them off and she just isn’t. That’s the case with this very plain black Balenciaga jersey(?) dress paired with Balenciaga boot pants. These boots retail for $1,395 at Neiman Marcus and they’re supposed to make this look, considering how boring that dress is. The boots make her look like she’s wearing half of one of those full body spandex fan suits. This is not in keeping with the theme and it just falls flat.
Lily Aldridge was in white Ralph Lauren, in a white silk cutout gown with a long train which fares much better than Salma’s dress at fitting the theme. She’s also wearing those Balenciaga boots (thanks Kaiser!) in red and she has on a Pink half veil, as if she didn’t want to too closely match the color of her veil and boots. I don’t really understand what she was going for here, but she’s trying to make it work and you can see the effort she’s putting into it.
Emily Ratajkowski had on a formfitting sequin Marc Jacobs gown which had nothing to do with the theme but was so pretty nonetheless. It looks like a homage to Van Gogh, and someone on twitter compared her to that rainbow fish children’s book. It’s a beautifully constructed gown that fits her like a glove and I love the black band under the bustline, but again it’s just not for this event.

| Blake Lively in Versace at the Met Gala: how dare you talk about her style! | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Noted fashion-shunner Blake Lively arrived unexpectedly on the Met Gala red carpet. It was quite shocking, because Blake is not associated with fashion at all, and she will bitch out reporters on the red carpet if they ask her any fashion questions. I hope she personally walked up to every one of those photographers and fashion reporters at the Met Gala and demanded that they ask her questions about child abuse, politics, climate change and refugee crises.
To go with her image as someone who cannot be asked any fashion questions, Blake decided to go with a simple sack cloth. What?s that? Oh, no. You mean she wore Versace? You mean she attended an event devoted to superficiality and image and art? Huh. If I may be so bold, I would have preferred Blake?s Versace if the colors had been changed up a little bit. I get that you?re supposed to take in the gown in full-length, so you can see the pop of color at the hem. The blue is a great pop, but I just feel like the beige-gold base of the dress is? too beige. Especially on someone like Blake, who is a pretty beige person on a good day. And much like many other ladies on the red carpet, I feel like this is more of a Cannes dress than a Met Gala dress. Also: the gown makes it look like she?s wearing giant shoulder-pads.

| Rihanna in Commes des Garcons at the Met Gala: fabulous or crazy? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
The theme of the 2017 Met Gala was Rei Kawakubo and Comme Des Garcons. I honestly believed that most people would interpret the theme as ?deconstructed? and there would be a lot of sack-like dresses. I was pleasantly surprised to see many people attempting the sort of larger-than-life structured, sculptural pieces which Rei Kawakubo is known for. That being said, very few people actually got to wear Comme Des Garcons. Rihanna was obviously one of those people. Rihanna wore this absolutely amazing dress/piece of art by Commes Des Garcon and she was one of the later arrivals. People were primed to see Rihanna and she delivered.
This is what I love: Rihanna consistently shows that she cares. She cares about fashion. She cares about the theme of the Met Gala. She cares about style impacts. She does her research. And she delivers, time after time. This is awesome.
Pharrell Williams & his wife Helen also got to wear Comme Des Garcons. Pharrell was last night?s co-chair and I heard a rumor that Kawakubo personally selected these looks for both Pharrell and Helen Lasichanh. If that?s the case? I can?t hate on this too hard. I mean, Helen is arguably the most on-theme person there. Even though Helen looks like a red Gumby.

Tracee Ellis Ross also chose to wore Comme Des Garcons. I love her and I love this.

| Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera at the Met Gala: amazing or underwhelming? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Last night’s Met Gala was only the second time that a living designer was honored at the event. In 1983 it was Yves Saint Laurent and this year it was Rei Kawakubo, the founder of Comme des Garons. She’s known for fashion that’s like sculpture and which takes shapes and fabrics and transforms them into works of art. You can see a slideshow of her work on Vogue, and Kaiser covered the three gowns that were made by Kawakubo for the Met Gala, most notably Rihanna’s. So dresses which fit the theme should be bold, huge and unconventional.
Emmy Rossum slayed in black and white Carolina Herrera featuring black pants with a strapless bodice and a huge side bow. Her pulled back hair, bold earrings, and traditional makeup are just amazing and spot on. This was one of my favorite looks last night and it fits well with the theme, although it could be a little wackier. It’s just so elegant. Emmy has said that Carolina is designing her wedding gown, which makes her a lucky woman. She?s engaged to Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, who was her date last night. They?re so cute together. I really want them to have a big wedding and I want to see the photos, but I don’t know if that’s Rossum’s style.
Embed from Getty Images
Hailey Baldwin was also in Herrera, in a powder Pink crop top bustier with a high tiered skirt which she paired with a veil studded in rhinestones and an amazing chain choker. This isn?t my favorite gown but I love her moxie and it’s all right on theme. She stopped and spoke with the E! team on the red carpet and she just seemed excited to be there. Look at how the three layers of the skirt are just slightly different pale colors. Her styling is so striking and I really like this look.

Taylor Hill is a Victoria’s Secret angel and she somehow scored a Herrera gown instead of H&M or Topshop, which the other VS models were wearing. (Although both of those clothing chains did surprisingly well last night.) Her dress was a deep red strapless gown with a structured sweetheart bodice and a classic full skirt. Although it’s a gorgeous gown the only thing really unique about it are the little half cup sleeves which sit midway down her arms. It’s a lovely look but it’s not very daring.
