Back in May of last year, Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy were the first big-name couple to have a messy pandemic split. It seemed like MK and Sarko were already having issued pre-pandemic, and the pandemic just heightened everything to a crazy degree, especially regarding money and property. Even though they are both wealthy, they were renting in Manhattan, and Sarko basically let the lease lapse without telling MK. That was the reason their divorce became public knowledge MK and her lawyers had to make some moves and there was a flurry of reporting about their marriage. MK was probably horrified by that most of all, that the peasants knew about her personal drama. By last summer, MK and Sarko had managed to find a way to keep themselves out of the tabloids. MK ran off to the Hamptons and Sarko went God knows where. They quietly worked on their divorce, and on Wednesday, they reached a deal in their divorce settlement:
Mary-Kate Olsen and estranged husband Olivier Sarkozy have reached a settlement in their divorce, their lawyers said Wednesday.
?As of this morning, we reached a final agreement,? Sarkozy?s lawyer Michael Mosberg told a judge during a Manhattan Supreme Court video hearing. Mosberg said the parties would have a finalized and signed copy of the agreement to the judge by next week.
Justice Lori Sattler asked Olsen?s lawyer, Nancy Chemtob, if she agreed. ?Yes, your honor, that is correct, everything is resolved,? Chemtob said. ?We?ve been working very hard. We do have a settlement.?
Sattler pushed the lawyers to finalize the settlement. ?Until I actually see the proof, I?m going to hold your feet to the fire a little bit,? the jurist said. ?I do trust and believe that this is happening, however, I?m going to keep control of the case to make sure this gets done and get them divorced.?

As soon as MK filed for divorce last year, it was widely reported that she has an ?ironclad prenup,? a necessity to protect her businesses and her substantial assets. So my guess is that whatever divorce settlement they worked out, it wasn?t that much money or anything. Maybe she threw $10 million at him to get him to sign a nondisclosure agreement, something like that. Plus, it didn?t even sound like they owned much, if any, property in New York, so it?s not like they had to negotiate real estate issues or anything as I said, they had been living in a leased apartment in a posh area. Which is so bizarre MK has enough money to buy some prime New York real estate. Maybe that?s what she?ll do now.

Someone floated the theory that Mary-Kate Olsen was already living apart from her estranged husband Olivier Sarkozy, and that?s why she had no idea that he cancelled the lease on their Gramercy Park home. That?s why she was freaking out and trying to file emergency divorce papers, so she could formally move out of the home they technically shared. It would make a lot of sense she originally tried to file for divorce in April, only to be rejected because it wasn?t an emergency. My guess is that she and Olivier have not been cohabitating for a few months at least. That would mean that she wasn?t exactly homeless all this time, which was how it was painted in court papers. Well, now we don?t have to worry about MK?s living situation this summer: the poor sausage will rent a splashy Hamptons pad!
Mary-Kate Olsen is headed to a luxe $325,000 Hamptons rental for the summer, sources told Page Six, amid her split from husband Olivier Sarkozy.
Olsen just lost an emergency petition for divorce and was seeking to continue using the couple?s Hamptons home, as well as their Gramercy apartment and an East 49th Street address. She claimed in court docs, ?my husband expects me to move out of our home on [May 18] in the middle of New York City being on pause due to COVID-19.? But a judge ruled it wasn?t an essential matter.
A source told Page Six that the lease on the couple?s Gramercy pad ended this month. Now Olsen will instead decamp to the multimillion-dollar Hamptons estate with a private dock, we hear.

Ah, to spend a quiet summer in the Hamptons in a great, expensive rental with a private dock. That sounds so soothing and lovely. But what about MK?s workaholic vibes? Surely she won?t spend the entire summer in the Hamptons? Surely she?s going to need to spend some time in the city, even during a pandemic? Which also makes me think that she?s already bought or rented an apartment in Manhattan anyway. Hopefully, she?ll let me stay at her Hamptons rental while she?s in the city.

At this point, I couldn?t care less about Kristin Cavallari?s thirsty, forced divorce drama, but I am LIVING for whatever gossip crumbs we get from Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy. And I fully appreciate that the American gossip outlets have already defaulted to Team MK just out of patriotism. Take your ass back to France, Olivier! And as such, places like People Magazine seem to be the preferred outlets for what I assume are controlled leaks from MK?s team. I mean, she doesn?t have to do much to make us side with her, but I appreciate that at least her team is giving us some gossip in the wake of MK?s divorce filing/pandemic drama. We?ve previously heard (from People?s ?sources?) that Olivier is ?very French? and he ?wanted her home? instead of working constantly. We also heard that MK wanted to have a baby and he was done with fatherhood, because he already has two adult children. Here?s more:
Mary-Kate Olsen, 33, has been working since before she could walk or talk. The fashion mogul and her twin sister, Ashley, famously played Michelle Tanner on Full House when they were just babies and have continued working ever since ?? from launching their own production company to now running a fashion empire. But according to a source, Olsens focus on her career caused tension in her marriage to banker Olivier Sarkozy, 51.
Mary-Kate is extremely hard working and focused on her business. Her work schedule is beyond disciplined, a source tells PEOPLE in this weeks issue. She is the type of person who would never complain about a 12 hour work day. Olivier never understood her drive and passion. He would have loved to have a stay-at-home wife.
The source adds that Olsen, who runs two successful clothing brands, The Row and Elizabeth and James with sister Ashley, rarely takes a vacation.
Olivier loves traveling to tropical places with his French friends, says the source. He traveled without her several times.

Again, I have to ask: why were they together in the first place? Did they not discuss all of this ahead of time? They dated for three years before they got married. Did they not sit down and have a conversation about babies, work schedules, stay-at-home wifeing and general vacations with French peeps? Of course I believe that they were at odds over all of these subjects they never had anything in common! I also think that MK and her people are slowly working their way into the ?he was always spending HER money while she worked herself to the bone? argument.

Late last week, the Mary-Kate Olsen-divorce story exploded and I was shocked! The Olsen Twins are super-private, and I just kept thinking about how all of the tabloid attention was probably the most uncomfortable thing for MK. Mary-Kate Olsen married Olivier Sarkozy in 2015 after dating since 2012. They always seemed like an odd couple, but no one outside their circle could really get a read on them or what they were about. As it turns out, Olivier is mega-petty and he likely kicked MK out of their leased Gramercy Park home and canceled the lease behind her back. That?s how we found out about everything: she was trying to file for divorce during the lockdown but the NY courts wouldn?t allow her to file, and the court denied her emergency petition too.
Regarding the court denying her divorce petition, a legal source said to the Post (via People): ?Domestic violence is an emergency, perhaps refusing to provide health care is an emergency. I want to be divorced because I want to be divorced now is not an emergency.? Yeah, except that he was kicking her out of their shared home before she had a chance to move her stuff out. But the same legal source said that the judge who rejected her emergency filing might know that MK owns other properties in New York state (two apartments in the city and a house in the Hamptons), so it?s not like she would really be homeless. Sources told the Sun that the ?breakup is bitter? and that Olivier absolutely ?threw his wife out of their New York apartment after she filed for divorce in April.? We also heard that one of the reasons for their split was that she was focused on her career, while Olivier is ?very French? and he basically wanted a stay-at-home wife. Now People?s sources are saying some more stuff:
Mary-Kate Olsen, 33, and her husband, Olivier Sarkozys, 50, inability to see eye to eye on several issues ultimately led to their divorce after four and a half years of marriage. According to a source, one of the main issues that caused friction in their relationship was whether or not to have children. Sarkozy, who has two grown children with ex-wife Charlotte Bernard, didn?t want to have any more kids, while Olsen did.
?A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for her. This has changed,? says the source.
Olivier has two grown kids and doesn?t want more, a fashion source tells PEOPLE. Mary-Kate thought he would budge on that and he hasn?t.?
But it wasnt only children that drove the fashion mogul and banker apart.
?Olivier is a party boy and a big spender,? says a banking source. ?He loves the high life.?
Meanwhile, Olsen who runs two clothing brands, The Row and Elizabeth and James with her twin sister Ashley, is more reclusive.
?Mary-Kate prefers to be quiet and alone and doing the things she likes,? says a fashion source. ?She?s not that interested in socializing?she likes small gatherings with select people. They ended up being apart quite a bit.?

So they broke up because A) He wanted her to be home more, B) he wanted to socialize and party more and she wasn?t into it and C) she wanted a kid and he didn?t. It feels like Team MK is just throwing some different theories out there, but it also just sounds like they never had anything in common, really. And yeah, when a dude remarries some much younger lady, often the younger lady will (gasp) want to have a kid. I don?t know. It sounds like Olivier is a douche, but it also sounds like they never should have been together in the first place.

But I didn?t predict that it would be so messy so fast. To recap, the lockdown meant that MK couldn?t file for divorce in mid-April, Olivier cancelled the lease on their New York apartment without telling her and now he?s trying to get her to move her sh-t out by the 18th. She said, slow your roll, you can?t do that in a pandemic situation, and she tried again to file for divorce, only the court rejected her filing again (because it wasnt an emergency). Silver lining, maybe: at least her money is protected. So now we?re getting some stories about what was going on in their marriage:

Were told Mary-Kate has left the couples Big Apple home to be with Ashley and group of friends outside the city.
Its gotten very ugly between them, the insider reveals of Mary-Kate and Oliviers current dynamic. Its become a heated divorce, the source adds. Shes done with constant drama.

As a gossip blogger, I would love nothing more for this to turn into a gigantic tabloid mess with the NY Post running some absurd anti-French headlines (?Olsen Twin Seeks Libert From Froggy Sarko?). But realistically, I know this is probably as good as it will get. Olivier is the wild card here if MK had it her way, she would make this all go away quietly, with no ?sources? running to People or E! News. But if Olivier keeps it dramatic, MK will squash him in the papers and in court. Hopefully.

I rarely have business at any courthouse or City Hall or anything like that, so I have no idea how the courts and city/county offices are working in my state or any other state. I would assume that it is a state-by-state issue, and some courts are open for business and some aren?t, just depending on the jurisdiction and the local orders. All of this to say, I would have assumed that Mary-Kate Olsen?s situation would have been deemed essential enough she?s trying to file for divorce from Olivier Sarkozy, and it?s an emergency because he terminated their lease on their Gramercy Park apartment. She feels like she?s being forced out by May 18th (during a lockdown). Well? the courts in New York are closed except for emergencies, and this was apparently not an emergency. Wow.
Mary-Kate Olsens request for an emergency order to file for divorce from husband Olivier Sarkozy has been denied because the matter has been deemed not essential. Olsen, 33, requested the emergency order because courts are closed in New York during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), but her request was denied by a New York State Supreme Court judge on Thursday.
New York courts spokesman Lucian Chalfen tells PEOPLE that Olsens original filing ? which PEOPLE previously reported was first signed back in April ? was rejected by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Katz because the essential matter procedure was not followed.
We are only accepting essential/emergency matters for filing, Chalfen says. The original filing was rejected by the New York County Clerk because they did not follow the essential matter procedure. They refiled under the essential matter procedure and the matter was referred to the ex parte judge a New York State Supreme Judge, Chalfen tells PEOPLE of Olsens denied request, which was first reported by Page Six. He decided that it is not essential so they can?t file anything at this point.

People Magazine got their hands on MK?s most recent filing, the one which was just rejected:
The fashion designer and twin sister of Ashley Olsen asked the court to deem her application for a Summons and Complaint for divorce essential because Sarkozy terminated their apartment lease without her knowledge, and she is at risk of losing her personal property, she said in the affidavit.
This application is an emergency because my husband expects me to move out of our home on Monday, May 18, 2020, in the middle of New York City being on pause due to COVID-19, Olsen said, according to a copy of the affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
I am petrified that my husband is trying to deprive me of the home that we have lived in and if he is successful, I will not only lose my home but I risk losing my personal property as well, Olsen said, adding that she is gravely concerned that my husband will dissipate, dispose of and/or secret not only my separate property belongings but also our marital property belongings that are in the Gramercy Apartment.
My husband is trying to force me out of our home by his failure to renew the lease on the Gramercy Apartment which he terminated without my consent, Olsen claimed in the affidavit.
This is impossible given the COVID-19 pandemic, Olsen said of Sarkozys request she vacate the apartment by Monday. It is also impossible for me to find a new apartment on such short notice.

This really sucks, because to me? the sh-t with the lease and the threat of Olivier tossing her personal property makes this an emergency, and I can?t believe the courts didn?t think so too. That being said, maybe the court took one look at MK?s businesses, wealth and possibly the other property she might own in the city, and that?s why they decided it wasn?t an emergency. I?m not saying I?m anti-MK!! I?m Team Mary-Kate, 100%. But I also think it?s a bit rich (literally) that MK is acting like she would have nowhere to go and nothing to fall back on. Her sister lives in the city, Mary-Kate has owned property in New York before (and probably still does) and MK is literally worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

I?m still obsessed with the Mary-Kate Olsen divorce story. It just came out of nowhere, and it?s already so messy. MK met Olivier Sarkozy in 2012 and they married over the Thanksgiving 2015 holiday. In the rare moments when MK spoke about her wife-life, she made it sound very simple she worked on her fashion lines, then she would go home, make dinner for herself and Olivier, and then on weekends she had her horses (she?s does dressage, I think). Now there?s a wealth of shenanigans though apparently, she wanted to file for divorce last month, but the NY courts wouldn?t let her because of the shutdown. Olivier tried to kick her out of the house they owned together, and now she?s getting an emergency order and trying to get the divorce filing through. She?s also trying to get her prenup enforced. Back when Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were just little kids, I never would have predicted that they would turn out to be such eccentric and private adults. They were blonde and cute they loved fashion. They could have ended up making mall clothes for the rest of their lives. They could have been falling out of clubs and ripped through A-list and B-list boyfriends. Instead, they seemed to find inspiration from, like, Miss Havisham. They walk red carpets like creepy hobo ghosts. They are respected designers and creators of several major, quality fashion lines. MK is the one who got married Ashley is the permanently single (and she has quietly dated some actors). MK settled down with Olivier Sarkozy, brother to the former French president. Olivier is seventeen years older than Mary-Kate. I never even got much of a vibe one way or the other from then. And I never will, because they?re getting a divorce! Huh.
Mary-Kate Olsen wants to get divorced, but shes hit a major roadblock coronavirus, so now she wants an emergency court order to speed things along. Mary-Kate says her attorneys got an email from her husband, Pierre Olivier Sarkozys attorneys this week giving her a May 18 deadline to get her stuff out of their NYC apartment. She claims Pierre is trying to force her out, because he terminated their lease without her knowledge.
She says shes been asking Pierre to give her until May 30, but claims he hasnt responded.
In the docs, obtained by TMZ, she says she cant meet the deadline this coming Monday because of quarantine guidelines in the city. Mary-Kate says the only way she can protect her property is if shes to file a divorce petition. That would trigger an automatic court order preventing him from disposing of her property.
Mary-Kate says she signed a petition for divorce back on April 17, but was informed NY courts were not accepting divorce filings other than emergencies due to the COVID-19 pandemic that was raging in the city. Shes requesting an emergency order to allow her to file the divorce. Shes included her divorce petition in the filing, and in those docs, she requests their prenuptial agreement be enforced.
Olivier, a French banker, and Mary-Kate tied the knot in November 2015 in an intimate Manhattan ceremony. They started dating in 2012. They dont have any kids together Olivier has 2 from his first marriage. This was Mary-Kates marriage and now her first divorce.

Oh, I bet she HATES that this much information is out there. Both twins are so private and this is SO MESSY. So, from what I understand is that Mary-Kate wanted to file for divorce a month ago but the NY courts wouldn?t let her because of the lockdown. So then Olivier decided to screw over his soon-to-be estranged wife by ordering her out of the New York home they shared (and likely split costs?). And MK is the one with a motherfking prenup, people. I have no doubt that Olivier is rich (he?s always described as a ?banker?), but MK has major assets and I?m proud of her for protecting those assets with a prenup. I would also imagine that this apartment is not the only property she owns in New York? Update: okay, yes, this was a leased property, but they have owned property together, and MK has owned property on her own, sorry about the confusion. But that doesn?t matter no one should be bitchily forcing their spouse out of a cohabitation situation during a pandemic. Merde!

For years now, it?s been pretty rare to see Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen walk a red carpet together. They maybe do it once a year on average, perhaps at the Met Gala or maybe at some random event that they?re involved with. Like this event last night: the Youth America Grand Prix?s 20th Anniversary Gala. MK and Ashley were each other?s dates, and they did the matchy-matchy goth thing and they posed the same way they always do standing angled towards each other, faces close. They?re so creepy, it?s actually pretty funny.
I?m assuming both women were either in vintage or their own designs from The Row (or a combination of both). That?s the thing about their designs for The Row they all look the same and they tend to all have that baggy, ill-fitting vintage vibe. I also think it?s interesting that suddenly, after years of NOT matching their hair colors, they both seem to be using the same colorist and the same shade of bronde?
