| Jessica Alba on being with her kids: 'it's about quality and not quantity' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Jessica Alba and Jenna Dewan Tatum have a joint interview with E! Online in which they?re promoting flip flops they designed for Haviaianas, with 100% of the proceeds to go to Baby2Baby, an LA-based charity which supports low income families. E! asked them the go-to question for working moms – how do you balance it all? I wish more dads would get asked this question. Jessica is running her business, The Honest Company, and it?s clear that she?s a very busy person and that she?s thought about these issues quite a bit. Her responses remind me of old school Ivanka Trump, before we knew what a complicit horrible person she was, in that Ivanka used to say she worked 16 hour days and only saw her daughter at bedtime and on the weekends. That was before she had two more kids and became the botoxed face of fascism. As I said back then, that?s her prerogative as it is Jessica?s. Jenna didn?t say much about balancing being a mom and working but I don?t think this affects her as much as Jessica. She?s probably home a lot more. Here?s some of the interview, with more at the source:
“I think feeling like you’re missing moments, like, well first off, you feel bad when you realize they are wearing shoes that hurt them because you’re like, ‘Oh, I didn’t even realize that you’ve been wearing shoes that are too small for you for like 3-4 months, my bad,’” Jessica said. “Some of those milestones or moments, you want to be there for every single one and it’s not realistic when you’re working, but for me, that’s what gets me. Even the everyday little things like picking them up from school are a big deal, so I drop them off at school most mornings and try to get home for bedtime. But the weekends is really when I get to spend the time with them.”
“Yeah, for me it’s always a balancing act and learning and perfecting the balancing act is the toughest part,” Jenna said. “For me, with work, it’s interesting because it will be really, really busy and then I’ll have a little bit of time where it isn’t quite as busy, so you have a little bit of time where balancing that is easier. She’s pretty good now because she understands that now.”
“It’s like a checks and balances kind of thing where you really put in good quality time so you feel a little bit better about working the next day,” she said. “It’s about finding that, and constantly sort of not making yourself feel guilty but trying to work that out for yourself, so that your family gets lots of time and quality time together. It’s a balancing act always.”
Jessica said she thinks “it’s about quality and not quantity.”
“Totally,” Jenna said. “I say that all the time, because getting that good quality time in there assures the time you have to be away working to just feel better for you and for your kid and your family, just making that a priority.”
[From E! Online]
I often think about this, like what would my life be like if I had to work eight hours a day (at least) in an office, plus have a commute, plus have to run a household. It?s hard enough to work from home and I have the luxury of being able to pick my son up from school and do small things around the house like laundry and dishes. I can?t imagine having to run the house and work a regular job too. Alba has help though, her husband is likely there as well, and it?s not like she has to clean, do laundry or cook meals. This is her choice and it?s not one we would even be considering if she was a dad. It sounds extreme to me but she runs a hugely successful business and that?s not achieved without a lot of time and effort.
What a beautiful day spent at the beach with the @Baby2Baby children! Thank you @HavaianasUSA for hosting this wonderful event for the deserving kiddos we serve! We all had so much fun in the sun!

| Jessica Alba on what she misses before kids: 'sleeping in and not worrying' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Being a mom is part of Jessica Alba?s brand, given she formed the successful The Honest Company that markets to families. Given that, I think she?s struck a good balance of trotting the kids out for friendly pap pics and not over exposing them. As you can imagine, most of the questions Jessica fields these days are about parenting. So when I opened the People article about Jessica not thinking she was the perfect mom, I didn?t expect it to strike such a nerve. Jessica touched on a few things that have been so prominent in my mind this past week but mainly, how I am doing as a mom.
What do you miss most about your life before motherhood?
“Sleeping in, and not worrying. I’m always worried about them. Even when they’re at school or they’re at home sleeping and we’re all in the house together, I’m still always worried about them!”
What is your best quality as a parent?
“Being open and curious. Trying to always better myself. I don?t try to pretend like I have all the answers and I certainly don?t think I?m perfect. So when my kids say something, instead of me being so reactive, I think about how I can be better.”
What is your worst quality as a parent?
“Sometimes my mind is in too many different places and I?m not always in the moment.?
What are you like as a parent? Are you strict or easygoing?
“I?m probably on the stricter side of lenient. But I think boundaries are good for kids ? and structure. I find that my kids thrive when they know where the boundaries are and the comfort zone and where they can be creative and play.
“It’s having enough sleep, it’s having proper nutrition that really helps that. And having enough activity.
[From People, print edition and online]
I think most parents see themselves as stricter rather than lenient. I?m not saying Jessica isn?t a stricter parent, I?m just saying I have never heard a friend say they were a lenient parent no matter how many times they?ve had to pull their kid off of the bookshelf.
What really got to me when reading this were Jessica?s answers about worrying about her kids and not being in the moment. The worrying thing is the part I was most unprepared for when I became a parent. And it’s not just life-threatening stuff either – I worry about every aspect of their lives, almost obsessively. And when I stop worrying for a moment, they?ll tell me something that?s happened to them and I think, why the hell didn?t I see that coming? Then I worry that I am not worrying enough. It?s exhausting. It?s been glaringly true recently. Like many of you, I wasn’t happy with the outcome of the election and it has dominated my thoughts. I’m trying to stay aware and active. Last week, each kid came to me on separate days with stories that broke my heart. They needed me and I hadn?t been there in any sense. So I hear Jessica on that. It sounds silly, like why do moms get so wrapped up in their kids? Because you told these little people you would look out for them and when you don’t, it is not you who suffers. It does help, however, to know that people like Jessica feel the same way.
On a superficial note, Jessica said in the video with People that she calls Haven “Havey.” I think that’s really cute.

| Jessica Alba in David Koma at the Teen Choice Awards: cute or too wintery? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The Teen Choice Awards were held last night. Why do I also forget about the TCAs? Is it because I never watch them? Is it because I?m not entirely sure who IS watching? I always consider the Teen Choice Awards to just be a buffet of appearances by actors appealing to the PG-13 (but not R) rated crowd. Chris Evans but not Leonardo, you know? But there seemed to be a different kind of tone happening at this year?s TCAs. This year, Jessica Alba introduced family members of victims of gun violence, like teenagers who lost siblings in Newtown, Aurora, Dallas and Orlando. Alton Sterling?s son was there too ? you can read more about it here. So in addition to handing out surfboard awards, the TCAs came out STRONG against gun violence and came out for comprehensive gun control.
As for the fashion, Jessica Alba wore David Koma, this attractive but rather dark ensemble. I think the point was that she knew she was going to be doing a serious moment and she didn?t want to be dressed in some bright and frilly. You can see the full list of TCA winners here.
Ashley Benson in Michael Kors. I think she looks cute and appropriate for the TCA. I also think she looks like Kate Upton?s little sister, right?
Shay Mitchell is giving me Kylie Jenner vibes. Something about her hair and makeup. It?s weird. Shay?s minidress is Just Cavalli. Sparkly, cute, fine.
Lucy Hale in Azzaro. Not my favorite look from the event, but she looked summery. I think there are too many patterns happening.
Lea Michele in Self Portrait. Imagine this two-piece ensemble with a pair of high-fashion black flip-flops. Much better, right? It?s like she decided to wear Pink bridesmaid shoes. Ridic.
Victoria Justice in Versace. This might be my least favorite look. I think the skirt is too high and the fabric is tragic.
Keke Palmer is giving me some serious Rihanna vibes in this jumpsuit from The Blonds.
Daisy Ridley in Dior. She looks SO different with that haircut and color. Does anyone else think she looks a bit like Elisabeth Moss now? Anyway, the dress is? eh.
