| Cate Blanchett: Conversations about gender equality are 'like Groundhog Day' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
|
Over the past few months, I?ve been getting the feeling that Cate Blanchett is no longer a favorite around here. Just know: I still genuinely like her, even though she sometimes sounds like an a?hole. I still prefer Cate to many, many actresses. I think the problem with Cate might be that we?ve set the bar so high with her in particular ? like, she must be all things to all people, she must always say the correct thing about every subject, and that?s just? impossible. Anyway, Cate has a feature in GQ?s Men of the Year issue and it?s really funny and interesting. She basically sits at a bar and gets hammered on martinis with the GQ journalist. She tells stories about Australia?s feral cats, the Sony Hack, how she really feels about Quentin Tarantino?s diss a few months ago (QT said ?Half of these Cate Blanchett movies?they’re all just like these arty things? and all she?ll say is that she?s a QT fan) and how Aaron Sorkin doesn?t think actresses are as talented and hard-working as actors. Some highlights:
The endless conversations about gender equality: “It just feels like the industry has the same conversation every year, and I think that’s a fabulous conversation? We’ll be back here like Groundhog Day next year having the same f–king symposium. It just has to shift.”
Acting is not therapy: “I do something where I physically get up most days of the week and do weird sh-t and have catharsis. And so I guess any of that unprocessed stuff kind of gets worked through?it’s not that I’m seeing my job as some form of therapy. I mean, I ?nd that notion quite disgusting, actually?repulsive. But I do have catharsis in my work. If I was an unemployed actor, I think I’d probably be less emotionally healthy. You know what I mean?”
The Sony Hack emails: “No, no, I don’t read that sh-t. No, I’m interested in talking about what the Sony hack means, but in terms of trolling through it to ?nd out about who said what about who? I didn’t assume that it could have had anything to do with me, but I guess I’ve worked for them or have had intersections with them so? Yeah, and the other thing is I’m not in this business expecting or wanting everyone to like what I do. Believe me, I’m the harshest critic of what I do myself, so no one can say anything worse out there than I say to myself. And I’ve worked with a lot of people that I wouldn’t necessarily want to go out to dinner with?.I knew that it was hacked, but I didn’t go and troll over the broken bones and identify the dead bodies. I didn’t do that. I was doing other stuff.”
What she could do beyond acting: “Yeah, but I don’t know what it is. What should I do? You got any suggestion? I can’t write. I can’t knit. I’m not crafty. I can cook. I can’t retire. What would you do, develop a hobby like golf? I tried golf; I’m really bad at it. I’m a full-time mother and I’m doing that. My husband said to me when we were living in Brighton, years ago in England, and I was talking about giving up acting, he said to me, ‘What are you passionate about?’ And I said, ‘The amount of plastic bags in the world.’ And so I reduced my passion to the proliferation of plastic bags. It’s that bad. I mean I really need to go and see a lifestyle coach or a career guidance counselor or something.”
[From GQ]
I?ve been feeling the Groundhog Day vibe off of the feminism/gender equality conversations too, although to be fair to the ?conversations,? I do think they move the needle. A little bit. In some places. Like, we?re getting to the point where there are more stories about studio accountability, a hunger for more female-driven projects, and actual evidence that those female-driven projects can deliver.
As for her Sony Hack comments, she was responding to questions about what she thought of Aaron Sorkin?s comments to Maureen Dowd about how actresses have it easier than actors, etc. I find it interesting that ?I didn?t read that stuff? is the new ?no comment.? Angelina Jolie said something similar too ? that she was vaguely aware but she didn?t read it.
Oh, and here are some photos of Cate at the Pirelli calendar launch event a few days ago. Her dress is Stella McCartney and it?s awful ? so unflattering.

| Kristen Stewart might have a slight chance at an Oscar nomination this year | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Here are some photos of Kristen Stewart at the Chanel Metiers d’Art 2015/16 fashion show in Rome on Tuesday. We got these photos later than I was expecting, which is why I?m posting them a day later than I should have! Kristen has been hard at work on a new movie (Personal Shopper) in France for a few months, but she always makes time to honor her Chanel contract by attending several Chanel shows a year. I really like what Karl Lagerfeld gave her to wear this time ? she looks sophisticated and pretty, nary a lip-bite in sight.
Kristen has actually had a decent year, career-wise. She had a small part in Still Alice, which ended up being an Oscar-winning film for Julianne Moore. Kristen and Jesse Eisenberg bombed at the box office with American Ultra, but K-Stew isn?t wearing that failure. And Kristen won a Cesar Award back in February for her role in Clouds of Sils Maria. Well, I didn?t realize this, but it seems like Clouds was released in America this year (not 2014), so Kristen could potentially be up for some awards during this Oscar season. And guess what? She just won the New York Film Critics Circle award for Best Supporting Actress!!!
Kristen Stewart is an underdog this awards season. Yes, she?s already won a Csar Award?the French equivalent of an Oscar?for her performance in Clouds of Sils Maria, but the competition in the best supporting actress Oscar category this year is tough, and Clouds of Sils Maria opened, without much fanfare, months ago. But if the Kristen Stewart Oscar campaign was ever going to get started, it definitely did today, when Stewart won the best supporting actress prize from the New York Film Critics Circle.
The organization, one of the country?s most prestigious film critic?s groups and among the first to announce their annual awards, met Wednesday and announced their choices via Twitter throughout the day. Michael Keaton won the best actor prize for Spotlight, even though he and the rest of that film?s cast are being campaigned in the supporting categories by distributor Open Road, and Saoirse Ronan won best actress for her role in Brooklyn. The biggest overall winner, though, was Todd Haynes?s Carol, which won four prizes, including best film.
[From Vanity Fair]
You can read the full list of NYFCC winners here ? I?m happy for Saoirse (I want to see Brooklyn so, so much) and Michael Keaton. The critics? awards have been all over the place thus far ? the National Board of Review gave Best Picture to Mad Max: Fury Road, and Jennifer Jason Leigh got Best Supporting Actress. What I?m saying is that while I?m happy for Kristen Stewart, I just don?t think she?s going to get nominated for an Oscar this year. And I?m guessing that she?s fine with it.

| Kylie Jenner & her very thin Greyhounds were investigated by Animal Control | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Like many teenagers, Kylie Jenner is constantly posting crap on social media. Many of her Snapchat videos include her two Greyhounds, Norman and Bambi. I don?t know much about Greyhounds other than they?re supposed to be pretty active dogs, and they?re always really lean/thin. Well, Kylie posted a Snapchat video a week ago including her puppies and Kylie?s followers were like, ?Damn, those are some thin dogs!? You can see the ribcages on the animals, and while I don?t know much about Greyhounds, they did look too thin to be healthy (you can see some screencaps from the Snapchats here). So? Kylie was investigated by the LA County Department of Animal Care and Control.
Kylie Jenner is officially out of the dog house. The Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control investigated the reality star after receiving a complaint from someone worried about her Italian greyhounds’ weight, and officials found the dogs to be in good health, PEOPLE has confirmed. Jenner, 18, has gotten heat online over how skinny her pups Norman and Bambi look.
“We did an animal welfare check yesterday. Miss Jenner was very cooperative,” Derek Brown, deputy director of L.A. County animal control, tells PEOPLE. “Her animals are actually under medical care, so there’s no neglect whatsoever. The breed of dog tend to be very lean anyway.”
He said the department investigates all complaints. Brown says he appreciates the public helping his department look out for the welfare of animals.
“We really appreciate the public’s concern and their interest in animal welfare, because it just shows you how important it is to the public,” Brown says. “We don’t want to discourage people from making a call if they have concerns like that. This one checked out and worked out very well with a happy ending.” Jenner has gushed about Norman, Bambi and third puppy Sophia (who technically belongs to her roommate and BFF Anastasia Karanikolao) on her website/app.
“Everyone knows I’m OBSESSED with my Italian greyhounds,” she wrote. “I love my little babies so much ? they’re my best friends.”
The budding makeup entrepreneur (her lip kit sold out in minutes!) was gifted Norman for Christmas last year, and he’s been a mainstay on her social media ever since.
[From People]
While I think Kylie is an idiot (?touch,? as she would say), I?m not ready to accuse her of neglecting her dogs, especially since Greyhounds are known for being so active and so thin anyway. Then again, it?s not like the Kardashian-Jenner clan has the best history with pets. Pour one out for Mercy Kardashian, rest in peace.
Here?s a Snapchat video Kylie did with her puppies yesterday:

| Sandra Bullock on adopting Laila: Louis 'wanted a sibling with brown skin' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Yesterday People Magazine came out with their new cover story, on Sandra Bullock’s adoption of a three and a half year-old girl, Laila, from the foster care system. Sandra waited until the adoption had officially gone through to make the announcement, explaining that she was legally obligated to keep Laila’s identity private and that she’d gone to great lengths to keep paparazzi photos of the girl from being published.
People’s piece was long and there are a lot of details that we didn’t yet report, mostly about how Laila and her older brother Louis, five, get along. Sandra said that Louis had asked for a sibling for several years and that he didn’t have a preference as to whether he had a brother or sister, but that he did want someone who had brown skin like him. She also told some cute stories about Laila and Louis bonding.
She knows she was meant to adopt Laila
I didn?t want Louis to think for a second that I wanted or needed more than him, because I had everything I needed. When I look at Laila, there?s not doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here. I can tell you absolutely, the exact right children came to me at the exact right time.
Louis wanted a sibling
Louis spearheaded this whole journey. I did remind him that it could be either a brother or a sister and that we would be so lucky to have either one. He did specify that he wanted a sibling who has some brown skin.
On if she specifically wanted a daughter
Through the years there were many options that presented themselves that in the end didn?t work out. All of them were boys of various ages. Not one girl. At one point I was even getting on a plane the next day when things fell through. But again, I knew that we would find our family – we just needed to be patient. So when Laila came into our lives, we just had to move over because she was coming no matter what, and she knew exactly how things were going to run.
Louis is protective of Laila
When Laila finally came to us and we were getting visits from CPS, there was an afternoon when we were outside and Louis saw their car pull up and he ran next to Laila and asked the CPS workers why they were there. They replied that they were there to see if Laila was okay. He replied, ?You?re not going to take her away, are you?? And at that moment, I knew I could stop worrying about whether I had found the right match.
On the first time Louis and Laila met
He grabbed her hand and dragged her into his playroom the first moment he met her. He?s a wise old soul and often knows more than I give him credit for. I think he was ready for her before she even arrived, and he knew exactly what to do as a big brother. He knew to be cautious and gentle. But now that time has passed and it?s like the WWE.
How they will celebrate Christmas
I will spend Christmas trying to convince Bwoono Maws [Bruno Mars, Laila loves him] to be under the tree and to somehow get Darth Va-der and Hans Solo to be there as well. The most magical part will be watching Louis show a little girl who may never have had a Christmas before what it?s all about.
[From People Magazine, print edition, headers added]
Many of you noted in the comments that it looked like Sandra was deliberately hiding the kids’ faces in the cover photo. In the photos in the magazine, there are only back and side view photos of Laila and Louis, there are no shots of their faces from the front except where Louis is wearing a mask. As I mentioned yesterday, Sandra’s boyfriend, photographer Bryan Randall, took the photos. She didn’t talk about him in the interview, but she did slyly say “the photographer was very patient.” I was surprised at how open Sandra was, she’s changed a lot and I think that’s down to being a mom. She told this kind of devastating story of being at her mom’s deathbed (Sandra’s mom passed in 2000) where her mom told her “Don’t be like me.” Sandra explained that her mom “didn’t want me to go through life shut down, afraid of feeling.” She said that “life has made sure I feel everything now, and I’m not ashamed of it anymore.”

| Oprah on Weight Watchers: 'I was fed up with my lose & gain again routine' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
The O Magazine people sent us the cover for the January issue along with some quotes from Oprah on teaming up with Weight Watchers. (Sidenote: I can’t believe it’s almost the holidays! This year went so fast.) As you probably know, Oprah bought 10% of Weight Watchers back in October, causing their stock to rally. Oprah still has the midas touch despite the Own Network not being the smashing success she expected. In the upcoming issue of O, Oprah explains why she invested in Weight Watchers and how it’s helping her personally:
Oprah?s cheers for the new year:
?Now repeat after me: Here?s to good health. To the new year. To simply (or not so simply) deciding to be happy. To finally getting motivated.?
On why using Weight Watchers works for her:
I?ve wishy-washed with diets and exercise my whole life. Now I?m ready to go beyond the scale and declare a new way of being in the world. The folks at Weight Watchers called me in July and asked if I?d join their team?help spread the message about taking a holistic approach to health and fitness. For me, this was a perfect alignment. I was fed up with my lose-and-gain-again routine. I?d had enough of no-carb regimens. Some people can live without bread and pasta, but it just doesn?t make sense to me. All the times I tried to do so only made me crave them more. I wanted a plan for life, and here it was in the form of Weight Watchers. For me, this is not a diet. It?s a whole shift in perspective. So yes, for sure, I?m a bona fide convert.
[From O, The Oprah Magazine, received via Email]
I can relate to this as a yo-yo dieter, but I have to say that Weight Watchers, while ranked the most effective commercial weight loss program, was not as easy for me as just counting calories with MyFitnessPal. I lost weight on Weight Watchers in 2010, gained it back and then tried to go on WW again in 2013. At that point they had switched from their original system to PointsPlus, which gives you “free” points for fruits and vegetables. I wasn’t losing weight with that and didn’t lose weight until I switched to counting calories with MFP and including fruits and vegetables again.
Weight Watchers is decidedly better than most other paid diet plans, but so many people are realizing the science and facts behind weight loss and why Weight Watchers works: eat less calories than you burn and you will lose weight. (Yes some foods help you feel more satiated etc., but you do not have to give up your favorite foods if you eat within your TDEE.) People think that “diet” means giving up whole food groups and sweets and I like that Weight Watchers teaches portion control and moderation, which is key. There are so many fad diets and so much misinformation, and WW is definitely better and more practical than most plans, but it works because of calories. Points are just calories by another measurement, but when it’s so simple to enter your food into a free app, why use points? (I guess it’s nice to have support in meetings, but I’m not a joiner.)
If Oprah is going to invest in a weight loss program, and use one, she may as well choose Weight Watchers, it’s effective and doesn’t mislead people like other plans. It just seems to be losing market share now that everyone is discovering the free apps.
Oprah is doing a tour of Australia called “An Evening With Oprah.” There are all sorts of quotes from her in the press, including the fact that she seems to adore Taylor Swift, calls her “a true great role model,” and praises how Taylor handles herself in the spotlight. Oprah is angling for Taylor to do a guest stint on one of her shows, you just know it.

Here is Kim Kardashian being slammed by fans after May footage from Keeping Up With the Kardashians reveals her naked desert photo shoot was heavily edited to make her look thinner.
?I did a desert photo shoot just knowing I was trying to get pregnant soon and wanted to savor this moment! We went out to the desert and just had fun and shot this so fast. We ate KFC Fried Chicken on the way there and got In-N-Out Burger and donuts on the way home LOL. Chris McMillan did my hair and Mario Dedivanovic did my makeup. Kesler Tran shot it and I love how it all came out! I have more amazing pics to share with you guys so check back next week for more from this incredible shoot!!!? Kim wrote on her official website.
