Carla Gugino is in the March ‘09 issue of Women’s Health Magazine. In the interview, she talks about a lot of boring crap like vitamins and embracing opportunity, but she also says she’s a sensualist and that she sees no reason to marry her boyfriend of 12 years because she likes that there’s nothing holding them but their desire to be together. Oh, and there’s also this:
Flipping through the movie previews on an airplane recently, she was amused to see that “in all the American movies, something is blowing up, while in the European ones are people having sex. Here you can see a nipple blown off, but you can’t see a woman walking to the bathroom after sex. It’s weird, because to me, sexuality is a big part of who we are as humans, the way we connect.”
Carla Gugino has been awesome and hot as hell ever since the spectacularly stupid Son in Law nearly 16 years ago. She’s also playing Silk Spectre in the upcoming Watchmen, so it appears she has no intention of ceasing either the hot or the awesome.

Mary-Kate Olsen was interviewed by Christopher Bollen for Interview magazine on Inauguration day. They talked a bit about politics ? it was hard not to that day ? but most of their interview focused on Olsen?s fashion empire. She and sister Ashley have built up quite a business, and are becoming more and more respected in the fashion world. And all this came from a girl who admitted she never paid attention to clothes growing up, and her first favorite item was a pair of spandex shorts. With fringe.
CB: ?you’re one of the very few actresses of your generation to cultivate your own style, totally original and authentic. When did that start for you?
MKO: For me, it really started by looking at people. There are just some really beautiful people in the world. When you’re walking down the street, or you’re at a restaurant, someone catches your eye because they have their own look. It goes way beyond what they’re wearing-into their mannerisms, the way they smile, or just the way they hold themselves.
CB: So you’re more inspired by the street than you are by Hollywood.
MKO: Some people are natural beauties, some have great style, but sometimes it comes from talent. Take Kate Winslet: I was listening to her speech at the Golden Globes. That woman has so much intensity. She’s amazing to watch and to listen to. With some people, it can even be their voice that makes them attractive.
CB: Did you buy your own clothes as a kid?
MKO: I never went shopping. That wasn’t my thing. I grew up horseback riding. That was my passion. I didn’t start shopping until about 16 or 17, whenI could drive myself to stores and explore on my own.
CB: When you’re that age, clothes become a way for you to figure out what kind of adult you’re going to be. It’s a testing ground for your personality, a way to show up as an individual. Your body is the first thing you stake claim to. Do you think that because you are a twin, interest in dressing your own way was even more amplified?
MKO: Well, until we were 13 or 14, if my sister and I did an appearance, we would be wearing the same outfit. [laughs] It would be the same dress and we’d fight over who would wear it in red and who would wear it in black. That was obviously for work. But ever since I can remember, we dressed completely differently. Ashley would wear really baggy clothes and shoes that were too big for her, and I think my first favorite clothing item was a pair of spandex shorts with fringe on them! Leopard and white spandex.

There were a lot of the traditional Olsen interview questions too, and I feel like a lot of that has been beaten to death. Yes, we know Mary-Kate and Ashley are different people. Yes we know they have very different interests. Mary-Kate did talk about the media a bit, and while she expressed some mild frustration she was polite about it and didn?t completely go off.
CB: I was worried that New York was becoming like L.A.-no more just letting everyone alone.
MKO: Everyone has the right to that freedom, right? Everyone has that right. It’s freezing in New York right now. In L.A., it’s sunny. But I would choose freezing over being followed.
CB: It’s kind of impossible not to ask you how you feel about the world prying into your personal life. How do you deal with it? Do you just say, “Okay, I’m not going to take any of this personally. Fuck them.”
MKO: I definitely don’t take any of it personally. You learn how to have a sense of humor pretty quickly. I honestly don’t keep up on it unless it’s something that would hurt someone else. I can take care of myself, that’s not the problem. But it’s just not fair to bring anyone else into the picture.
CB: I was going to try to go the whole interview without asking you about the media. But of course I Googled you to check what the gossip had going. I saw a recent one that actually speculated when you and Nate [Lowman, the artist and Olsen's current boyfriend] were going to get married. It said, “Can we expect the marriage vows soon?” I thought, Jesus Christ, that’s dating pressure.
MKO: [laughs] And you know Nate . . . It’s one thing after the next, the most far-fetched thing that could possibly be said has already been said. There’s nothing I can do about it really. They have the freedom to write whatever they want.
CB: Yeah, it’s the first amendment.
MKO: I don’t know. I wish it weren’t so abused.

As a writer ? writing about other people ? I don?t think the first amendment is generally all that abused. But I?m never the subject of the writing. I can imagine how the person being written about ? especially when it can be somewhat unflattering ? would feel differently. The Olsens do seem to have more privacy in Manhattan, and aren?t followed as much as they are in L.A. Mary-Kate says she appreciates that, and it must be nice to live a more normal existence.
It?s good she?s learned not to take gossip personally. We are going to write about them ? if no one cared to, then the Olsen Twins should be worried. That said, you never want to actually hurt someone?s feelings. Although I definitely hear reports of diva behavior on occasion, I?m normally fairly impressed by both Mary-Kate and Ashlee when they?re interviewed. They certainly know how to present themselves well when they?re in professional situations.

The Beckhams might be leaving America. It?s so sad. Just when I was getting used to seeing Posh in her sky-high heels and mini-skirts as she went grocery shopping, she leaves me. Just when I was developing a fondness for Brooklyn and the other two cute little boys, they?re ripped away from me by Italy. It?s like The Great War, I tell you.
So, David Beckham really wants to go back to Europe for some reason. He got to play for AC Milan for several months, and Milan wants Becks to stay. It was up in the air at first as to whether Posh would even join David in Milan, but she came along with the boys, and she seems to be enjoying Italy. Maybe it?s all the leather? OK! magazine says that David?s fate will be decided tomorrow, when LA Galaxy determines whether they will let him out of his contract.
We’ll know by tomorrow whether the Beckham family are sticking around in the US or retreating to Europe early.
Beckham wants to stay in Italy, where he has been on loan from LA Galaxy over the winter — and the Italian team wants to keep him permanently.
But his US team — who, in 2007, agreed to pay him $150m to stay for five years — haven’t yet said whether they’ll let him go.
Bosses of Major League Soccer don’t want negotiations to drag on — so they’ve said that Galaxy and Milan have to reach an agreement about his future no later than Friday, or the league won’t approve the deal.
According to ESPN, the league’s commissioner, Don Garber, said: “[AC Milan] needs to understand that this is getting very close to the start of our season.”
“We have plans that we need to make if David Beckham is part of those plans.”

What hurts more is that the Beckhams lied to America. They claimed they?d never leave! At least, they would never leave until Victoria conquered the American media by appearing on the cover of American Vogue. Alas, Anna Wintour does not care for Posh. Boo, Anna Wintour! I?m half-joking, of course. I do enjoy seeing pictures of the Beckhams and reading some gossip about them, but I?m not loonie for them. Still, it?s got to hurt both David and Victoria that they?re most likely leaving America without having conquered it. David wanted to bring American soccer to a whole new level - which was met a ?meh?. Posh wants to be as famous as all the other Hollywood celebrities, but the media just didn?t embrace her. So sad. They shall be missed.

American Idol hopeful Joanna Pacitti has been disqualified from competition. The higher-ups determined that Pacitti is ineligible to continue and has been replaced by Felicia Barton. This decision may stem from the fact that Pacitti had close relationships to two execs at 19 Entertainment, the company that produces Idol.
Star reported earlier that Joanna wasn’t really an amateur as she’s already released an album, opened for Sheryl Crow and had her songs in movies and tv shows such as The Hills. Star suggested that aside from all that, her friendship with the two execs may give her an unfair advantage over the competition.
An insider tells Star that Michelle Young and Roger Widynowski [both work at 19 Entertainment]have very personal connections to the Idol hopeful, all of which we detail in our can’t miss story. How personal? Well, Joanna has referred to Michelle as her “manager” and “best friend,” and credited Roger with “helping me get where I am today.” Plus, the three of them even lived in the same L.A. apartment complex for several years.
They forget to mention that this may be her last shot. And also that she’s hot. That’s probably the real reason they did this to her. Pretty people are always treated unfairly. Like, whenever I go to gifting suites, they never let me take more than four bags of stuff. What’s up with that? Why you gotta treat me like an ugly person?

A nutjob in LA has filed a $4 billion class action lawsuit against Miley Cyrus. Lucie J. Kim claims Miley purposely mocked Asians by slanting her eyes and that the 1 million+ Asian Pacific Islanders she supposedly represents in L.A. county are entitled to $4,000 each in damages for a civil rights violation. TMZ explains:
Kim claims when Cyrus posed for the photo, she “knew or should have known that her image would be publicly disseminated via the media, which Cyrus knew focused on her private life, specifically TMZ.”
Kim says Miley’s “just a kid” defense doesn’t fly. She says it’s like Paris Hilton claiming to be just a kid. Ouch.
Everyone agrees that Miley Cyrus was just doing dumb things teenagers do and that scolding her wasn’t only justified, but extremely fun. Although, this is going a little too far. This is the equivalent of being taunted at school and then suing the bully when all you have to do is kick him in the balls. So why don’t they just let Lucie J. Kim and the people she represents do that? Have them all kick Miley in the box if it’ll make them feel better. Anything to put an end to this retarded lawsuit.

Sorry for the late start today, boys ‘n girls. I still have the raging viral death that I’ve had all week, and I finally took some Nyquil last night. Apparently it made me lapse into a bit of a coma or something, because I just woke up 20 minutes ago. I still have a fever and I slept so long that I’m more than a little disoriented. Today should be awesome! And by that, I mean not awesome at all.
Speaking of not awesome, here’s Gwyneth Paltrow at a special screening of “Two Lovers” at the Sunshine Theatre in NYC. I cannot for the life of me figure out what’s going on with her outfit (aside from all the ugly, I mean — that part’s obvious). Are those… leather shorts? High-waisted leather shorts? Her stylist should be assassinated, and we haven’t even started talking about the hideous top yet. This whole getup looks like something my grandmother would’ve worn if she’d lived long enough to go through an octogenarian dominatrix phase. Oh, and I will give a shiny nickel to the first person who marches up to tell Gwyneth that she is TOO OLD for that gothy, smudgy, drunken vagrant eye makeup of which she’s so very fond. I’ll throw in an extra nickel if you tell her that it never looked good on her in the first damn place.

My copy of the March ?Hollywood Issue? issue of Vanity Fair (the one with President Obama on the cover) came in the mail yesterday, and there was an interesting article, penned by Peter Bart, editor-in-chief of Variety and co-host of AMC?s “Shootout” (also co-hosted by producer Peter Gruber). Bart joined Variety in 1989 and he?s a former journalist, film producer and studio executive, as well as an author of several books.
The article is called ?State of the Industry? and Bart writes it as if he?s giving a lecture to movie stars, producers, writers and film executives. He tends towards sanctimony as he lays out what he sees as the biggest problems in Hollywood and for Hollywood in the future. He belittles the Writers Guild of America for last year?s strike, basically saying that the WGA lost more than they gained (he might have a point there). He takes note of the lack of big money being spent for this year?s Oscar campaigns, complaining that most of the actors? campaigns have mainly been ?red-carpet interviews at celebrity premieres?. Well, duh. We?re in a recession! Even big studios can?t afford multi-million dollar Oscar campaigns, and red-carpet interviews are cheap. Sounds like Variety has been hit hard with slumping ad sales.
The worst part of the piece (in my opinion) was the part where Bart talks about the changes the stars themselves need to make. He points out one obvious piece of adivce: stars must go back and forth between big commercial films and art-house for a long-lasting career. Then, he starts in with the bad stuff. Here?s a transcript, from Vanity Fair:
-Identification as a ?hunk? can prove to be a career ender. Audiences have always been suspicious of actors who were too good looking, but pretty boys such as Tab Hunter and Rock Hudson could build careers a generation ago thanks to studio nuturing and protection. Today, when stars are essentially freelancers, the Jude Laws and Colin Farrells have a tough time finding work. Young hunks such as Robert Pattinson may find life after Twilight to be stressful, as might Zac Efron after High School Musical.
-Stars must mobilize more than simple disdain in dealing with the press. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie don?t even have press agents anymore. Sit with them in a social situation and they?re quietly reflective. But in her interviews, Jolie comes across as shrill and controlling; Pitt seems clueless. Actors need to select a public role model. Clint Eastwood is a good one: the cinematic statesman, a study in restrained dignity. Clooney is another: the smiling showman, always ready with a quip.

Where to start? Jolie comes across as ?shrill and controlling?? Actually, I?ve always found her interviews to be interesting. At worst, she sometimes comes across as a little smug, but hey, she?s got a great life. And I don’t even want to get into the feminist implications of calling one of the biggest actresses in the world “shrill”. Brad sometimes comes across as ?clueless?, but he doesn?t even make my top ten list of Celebrities Who Shouldn?t Speak. And Jude Law and Colin Farrell can?t get good parts because they?re pretty? I?m sure Jude?s career problems had nothing to do with the nanny scandal, right? Just like I?m sure Colin Farrell?s career problems had nothing to do with his drug and alcohol addiction.
I respect Bart under normal circumstances, but he seems to be that most-dreaded of put-downs, a hypocrite. Later in the article, he criticizes actors who are surrounded by too many handlers, like an agent, manager, press people, et cetera. So now, suddenly, Jolie and Pitt are geniuses for not being constantly surrounded by handlers? Oh, no, of course not. Bart would never go back to that shrill point.

Kate Hudson loves pole-dancing. So much so that she’s installed a stripper pole in her bathroom. Huh? Bathroom? An insider says Kate is positively gushing over it.
?She?s so proud of it,? said the insider. ?She was laughing and giddy like a kid when the thing was installed! She holds on with both her arms and flips her legs into the air. It?s kind of amazing and totally sexy.?
They go on to mention that pole-dancing doesn’t come without its risks. In 2006, Hudson “pulled a muscle in her leg” and suffered “a friction burn on her arm” while dancing for her ex-husband Chris Robinson.
Now she’s a pro. Kate’s best move is sliding upside down from the very top with her legs spread wide in the air and crashing to the floor onto her spinal cord after losing her grip and then shouting for help for the next thirty minutes. It’s a neat trick. I guess you have to be there in person to really appreciate it.

Longtime pole-dancing aficionado Kate Hudson has had a stripper pole installed in her bathroom, a source told Us Weekly.
?She?s so proud of it,? said the insider. ?She was laughing and giddy like a kid when the thing was installed! She holds on with both her arms and flips her legs into the air. It?s kind of amazing and totally sexy.?
Sexy enough to keep on-again, off-again boyfriend Owen Wilson around?
Hudson did spend the afternoon of Feb. 7 at Wilson?s Malibu estate. But aerobic striptease has its risks. Hudson suffered two pole dancing-related injuries in 2006 ? a pulled muscle in her leg and a friction burn on her arm ? while gyrating for then-husband Chris Robinson.

Miley Cyrus apologized earlier this week for a photo scandal in which she was seen pulling her eyes up in a photo in an apparent gesture mocking Asian people. She initially defended herself, saying she was just making “goofy faces,” but then recanted, saying she was sorry and that she “learned a valuable lesson.” Miley’s apology is not enough for one woman in LA County. Lucie J. Kim has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of over a million Asian Pacific Islanders in LA County, claiming civil right violations for each. That amounts to $4 billion:
A Los Angeles woman has filed a class action suit against Miley Cyrus, claiming she mocked Asians in a recent photo by slanting her eyes. Price tag: $4 billion.
Lucie J. Kim claims to represent more than 1 million Asian Pacific Islanders who live in L.A. County. Kim claims when Cyrus posed for the photo, she “knew or should have known that her image would be publicly disseminated via the media, which Cyrus knew focused on her private life, specifically TMZ.”
Kim says in the suit, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, that each Asian Pacific Islander is entitled to the minimum damages for a civil rights violation — $4,000. Add it up — $4 billion!

While I don’t think that Cyrus’ behavior comes even close to warranting this kind of lawsuit, she’s become the famous public face of anti-Asian racism. This lawsuit is trying to bring awareness to the fact that Asians are discriminated against and that it’s incredibly hurtful and cruel to make the “chinky eyes,” as Margaret Cho and others call it.
Yes, it can be interpreted that “going after a 16-year-old would just make the Asian American community look hyper-sensitive and mean,” as someone advocating a letter-writing campaign to Disney writes. Miley is 16 but she’s also a superstar and this lawsuit is trying to take advantage of that for maximum publicity.
Some of you mentioned that you think it’s harmless to sing the children’s song “Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees,” but why is this? Why do kids think it’s ok to sing songs about Asians but it’s not ok to sing songs about African Americans? We don’t sing racist songs about black people because it’s mean. It’s also mean to make fun of Asian people, but somehow we’re being “touchy” about this, and the people who are upset about hurtful remarks and gestures, including little kids, should just “get over it.” It’s not about Miley and her thoughtless behavior at this point and has become a larger issue.
Maybe by being a dumb kid Miley has served a greater purpose and will start to bring awareness to how pervasive anti-Asian discrimination is. I don’t think she meant to hurt anyone and this lawsuit will probably get thrown out, but people are hurt by those same gestures and we shouldn’t brush it off as if it’s meaningless. Think of where we would be as a society if we just ignored that kind of behavior against every other minority group in the past. Miley and other young kids should know that it’s just not acceptable to act that way.

Mandy Moore is officially engaged to singer Ryan Adams, 34, - not to be confused with singer Bryan Adams, 49, who he is frequently announced as on the radio.
Mandy Moore will tie the knot with her musician beau Ryan Adams, her publicist confirms to People.
Details on the engagement weren’t immediately available. Moore, 24, and Adams, 34, had dated off-and-on since March 2008.

In March 2008 Mandy had just finished supporting her ex-boyfriend DJ AM following his plane crash, and it was generally assumed that the two were an item at the time. She and Ryan have also been on-again off-again in their relationship.
Ryan is ten years older than Mandy, and has a history of drug abuse. He’s been clean for around 3 years. I hope that these two can be successful together - I wouldn’t want to see Mandy in a similar situation to Nicole Kidman, celebrating her honeymoon period alone while her husband is in rehab.
Mandy is releasing an album in May, titled Amanda Leigh, through her new label, recently established by her manager.
Ryan has just quit his band the Cardinals, in part due to his hearing loss related to Mnire’s disease, which is characterized by dizziness, tinnitus and progressive hearing loss. Ryan is publishing his first book this year, titled Infinity Blues, and plans to write at least two more books.
Congratulations to the couple - Mandy is going to make such a gorgeous bride.

There are obviously a ton of rumors going around about what went down between Rihanna and Chris Brown. That?s bound to happen with something of this nature, especially because both parties have remained silent. And people are naturally curious ? domestic assaults aren?t often reported with celebrities. Right now there?s a photograph circulating around the web showing Rihanna with a severely bruised cheek and what appears to be a bite mark on her neck. However TMZ has shown that it?s clearly been doctored. But that shows how much interest there is in this case.
According to Us Weekly, two of Rihanna?s friends spotted obvious bruises on her neck in December ? implying that there has been a pattern of domestic abuse.
Chris Brown may have roughed up Rihanna before their early Sunday morning altercation, two friends reveal in the new issue of Us Weekly (out today).
Brown — who is currently being investigated by Los Angeles county prosecutors after Rihanna allegedly accused him of assaulting her the night before the Grammys — always had a “volatile” relationship with the singer, an insider tells Us.
A Rihanna confidant adds that bruises were clearly visible on the singer’s neck in early December. Alarmed, “I asked is everything was OK with her and Chris,” says the pal. “She told me, ‘We broke up again.’ I didn’t pursue the issue further.”
Meanwhile, Brown’s sister, Lytrell “Tootie” Bundy, says the singer, 19, is “doing good” in light of his latest altercation with Rihanna. “He’s coping,” she told Extra on Wednesday. “He’s doing … [as well] as to be expected.”
Rihanna is said to be cooperating with Los Angeles detectives as they launch a battery investigation.

Obviously the veracity of the claims rests entirely on the truthfulness of these two friends ? and there?s no way to know how thoroughly Us Weekly investigated them. Brown has admitted to threatening to kill his stepfather when he was younger, and he witnessed his mother being abused by him ? which was denied by his stepfather. Statistically speaking, the first time police are called over a domestic abuse incident is not the first time one occurs. There?s normally been a history of it. Again, these are generalizations. But I would not be surprised to hear of more allegations coming out in the future.
