Here are some photos from last night?s An Unforgettable Evening Benefit Gala for The Womens Cancer Research Fund in LA. Renee Zellweger was the big A-lister in attendance, but the gala was pretty well attended with celebrities of various profiles. I know Renee has lost some dear friends to cancer, and she?s always done a lot of charity work around this. I have to say, I absolutely love her Gucci gown. This is stunning, elegant and sexy. I?m not a lace person, but I wish more lace gowns were done like this. This Gucci look is so good, I kind of wish Renee had worn this to the Oscars. Quick, without looking it up, what did Renee wear to the Oscars? It was that boring as fk white Armani. I guess we?re still not supposed to talk about how ?different? she looks, huh.
More photos from the gala? Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton Rothschild attended together. It?s crazy that after all these years, they?re still posing like this on red carpets!
The Jonas Brothers came out for a good cause! SO SHINY.
Rachel Zoe in a really good dress. I don?t have the ID for this, but I really love it. Simple and elegant.
Kyle Richards looks kind of terrible? That hairstyle is for poodles or Ariana Grande. She?s too filler?d or Botox?d.
Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin. Harry is ageing like a fine wine, I have to say. But this marriage is weird, right? That?s the gossip from RHOBH?

| JoJo on how her music label threatened and manipulated her as a teen | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The more I hear about the music industry, the more nefarious and predatory it sounds. I think theres so much more going on behind the scenes that were not hearing about because artists are scared. Look at what has been happening to Kesha, who was legally forced to pay her abuser and has been standing up to him in court for years. The point is to show artists, specifically women, that its futile to fight back. JoJo is a music artist who first hit it big with the soulful hit Leave (Get Out) in 2004 when she was just 13. She was the youngest solo artist to have a number one hit, but her career faltered when her label refused to release her new music after her second album. She was being manipulated and controlled by the men running the label, who put her on a 500 calorie a day diet.
JoJo was eventually released from her contract after a legal battle, she signed with Atlantic for a while and now she has her own label and is in a partnership with Warner Music. She has a new interview with Uproxx ahead of her upcoming tour. I was so moved by her story of what she went through. She got emotional at times recounting how bad things were for her. Heres some of what she said and the video is below.
Her label threatened her acting agent
I started to hear of other artists having very serious problems with Blackground, the label, and then a person who worked there, before they left, said to me you need to abandon ship before it sinks. Then when I started doing movies between my first and second albums, people at the label were not happy about not getting a percentage of that. Men were sent to my film and television agents office to intimidate him. My agent was like woah this is not what I signed up for.
She had to fire her mom and it sounds like she was on her own after that
My mom [who was my manager] outwardly hated the industry, wanted to pull me out from it. I wanted to just work and put out music. So I let go of my mom as my manager because it became unhealthy for her. That was the hardest thing of my life up until that point, [firing my mom]. The most devastating experience of my life. It was horrific, the response. This industry is not meant for people with a sensitive soul.
Her label refused to release her third album
It would appear that I was on hiatus, but I was making albums. I just didnt understand where the lack of follow through was coming from. We had such success. [The label] had burned a lot of bridges with different distribution companies. I saw people that opened for me coming up in their careers and surpassing me. I really wanted to put something out.
Her label put her on a 500 calorie a day diet
I thought that maybe it was the way that I looked because when I was 18, the president of the label sat me down and told me he wanted me to look as healthy as possible. I ended up getting put with a nutritionist that had me on a 500 calorie a day diet. I was on these injections that made you have no appetite. I was like let me see how skinny I can get. Maybe then theyll put out an album. Maybe Im just so disgusting that no one wants to see me in a video. I am speaking for every woman in this industry. Your image and your weight is up for conversation.
[From Uproxx via YouTube]
After that JoJo started drinking a lot and getting out of control. She said that seeing her father as an addict helped her kick drugs and alcohol. Her dad died of his addiction in 2015. JoJo worked really hard to get out of her contract, which she signed when she was 12. Even though the label didnt have an office and wasnt functioning, lawyers told her the contract was ironclad and there was nothing she could do. She used complicated legal means to eventually get out of it and worked hard to claw her way back. She had to re-record all her original songs in order to release them on streaming services! Those albums did very well on iTunes and she recouped her investment.
I was so impressed by JoJos commitment to her music and by all shes been through. She said I went from feeling like a disempowered child to feeling like a capable woman. You can see her music videos on her YouTube channel and heres her interview with Uproxx. Her dog is adorable and I wish we saw more of him.

| Mark Wahlberg made the DJ at his daughter's dance turn off explicit song | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Mark Wahlberg has a new project coming out next week called Spenser Confidential. By the trailer, it looks like a pretty typical Mark Wahlberg action movie: lots of violence, splashes of humor and a good-guy-been-wronged-redemption theme. Winston Duke and Alan Arkin look like they elevate this mess, but it still holds no interest for me. Anyway, Spencer Confidential is why Mark was on Ellen DeGeneres show the other day, talking about what a great dad he is. In this case, he went to a father-daughter dance at his daughter?s school and while there, he forced the DJ to change a song that had some potty-mouth lyrics. Oh noes!
Mark Wahlberg is always looking out for the children!
Earlier this month, the Hollywood actor was able to participate in the father-daughter dance at his childs school.
I didnt get one dance. And I told her we were going to do the whole big circle and I was going to go off, Mark recalled during todays all new Ellen DeGeneres Show. And she said, ?Dad, if you embarrass me, I will never talk to you again. But what she did do is she hung out with me.
The actor continued, She sat there on the edge of the stage, by the DJ. And then Im sitting there with one other dad and Im like, ?This is not an edited version of this song. There are explicit lyrics being played at a school dance for girls and Im like no good.
So whats a proud papa to do? Hes going to speak up, of course!
I told the DJ and hes like, ?Oh, I thought it was. I said, ?What are you doing? Im hearing F-bombs and this and that. Not okay.
[From E! Online]
I realize that Mark would really appreciate it if we forgot all about who he was and possibly still is. So he pushes this proud papa narrative out front so we can swoon at his parental involvement. Unfortunately, for me, that simply reminds me that he?s just your good-ol boy misogynist who sees his daughters as his property and thinks peddling the idea that they should be locked up until their 30s makes him charming. I don?t doubt he loves his kids, but most of the time, I just want to mute him when he talks about them.
However, I don?t have a real problem with this story. For the most part, we don?t censor music or books in our family. If the subject (or the artist) is problematic, there?s a discussion and we?ll point out bad messaging or wording, but I don?t care about cussing in a song. Like, I?ll voice an objection over a lyric that calls aa woman a ?ho? but not one that says ?sh-t.? Still, I remind my kids that some people do object to that language and therefore they shouldn?t subject others to their music without approval. Marks daughter in question was Grace, who is 10, so yeah, a bunch of sixth graders and their parents shouldn?t have to listen to an unedited song if they don?t want to. And honestly, the DJ should have known better at a school dance.
Just a postscript but many schools in LA no longer have Father-Daughter dances because they tend to discriminate against the many, many families who fall outside the heteronormative definition. So most of the father-daughter (and they spell out *only* fathers and daughters are allowed) dances that still happen in Los Angeles are about one fox trot away from a purity ball.

| Courteney Cox on Friends: we?ll get together for the first time to talk about the show | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The cast of Friends has finally reached a deal to put together some sort of reunion show. Honestly, if there has to be a Friends anything, I would rather a reunion than a reboot or movie. Look, I loved the show and still watch the occasional rerun, but I don?t need that corpse reanimated. It ended, let it be. Truth be told, I?ll watch the reunion because I?m a Friends sycophant. I was worried, though, because the cast was asked so often about it, their answers started to sound like maybe there was some discord among them Fortunately, Courteney Cox assures us that?s not the case, and that they could not be more excited about the HBO special (it?s okay if you read that in a Chandler Bing voice, btw).
Courteney Cox is just as excited as the rest of us about the upcoming Friends reunion.
The actress often known as Monica Geller recently went hiking with Kevin Nealon for his webseries, Hiking with Kevin, and opened up about how rare it is to get the cast all together in a clip exclusive to E! News. Nealon asked about her ideal Friends reunion, and not only is it not one in front of a whole bunch of cameras, but its also one that recently happened.
The ideal for me?and we just actually recently did this, and it took forever. I dont know how many years it was, maybe 15 years?and we finally all got together and had dinner, Cox said. And when we get together, which is never?it only happenedit just doesnt happen very often, like twice since we ended the show?its just the most fun. We laugh so hard.
So the exciting thing is that were all going to get together for the first time, in a room, and actually talk about the show, and its going to be on HBO Max, and Im so excited. Were going to have the best time. Its going to be great, she said. But we really havent all done that and actually sat there and talked about and reminisced about this incredible experience that we had. Its gonna be fantastic.
[From E! News]
To clarify, Courteney is talking about the first time they have publicly gotten together to reflect on the show and what being on it was like since the show?s end. During their final season, the cast did a Bloopers/Behind the Scenes thing with Conan O?Brien, but the show had not ended yet. And in 2016, the cast, save for Matthew Perry, presented the Friends segment at the James Burrows tribute, where they reflected some, but just a few minutes. As I said, I?m happy this is the format they settled on. I think it will be interesting to hear their perspective now that so much time has passed. They?ve all come full circle from resenting only being acknowledged for their Friends character to embracing that role once again. The cast has found success outside the show, to varying degrees. So this really does sound like they want to come together out of a place of love for the show and not out of some corporate money-grab taking advantage of the current Friends-frenzy popularity. Don?t get me wrong, it?s definitely a money grab for everyone involved, but at least it?s a happy money grab.
Here is the clip of Courteney and Kevin Nealon. The part about the reunion happens at the 1:06 mark. She really does seem excited.
