Charlize Theron has been single for years, ever since her split with Sean Penn. I actually sort of believe that she dates or maybe has some casual hookups here and there, but Penn was her last for-real relationship. I enjoy her single-mom vibe so much because she?s so matter-of-fact about it. Except that now her two daughters are at the age where they want to know why mommy doesn?t have a boyfriend or husband. Charlize shut that sh-t down in a hurry though:
Charlize Theron?s daughters insist that she needs a boyfriend ? but the Oscar winner says that she?s dating herself.
?Two days ago I was in the car with my two girls and my little one said something like ?You need a boyfriend!? she said Thursday on Diane Von Furstenberg?s Spotify podcast, ?InCharge with DVF.?
?And I said, ?Actually, I don?t. Right now, I feel really good,? and she?s like, ?You know what, mom? You just need a boyfriend, you need a relationship!? Theron ? who has two adopted children; 8-year-old Jackson and 5-year-old August ? continued, telling her daughter that she?s in a relationship with herself right now. ?She had this look in her eye like she had never really contemplated that that was even a possibility. Her mind was blown. But, I know that was the day that she realized there?s a different possibility.?
She said she has thrown herself into motherhood ? and had wanted to adopt since she was 8 years old. She has been honest about raising her transgender daughter Jackson, alongside her other daughter August, and said: ?The thing that was really eye-opening to me was, my children kind of came to me in this unexpected way, where you know ? I didn?t know I was going to be the mom to two African-American girls. I didn?t know I was going to be the mom to an African-American trans girl. All of these things have kind of made me more aware of how little I know. My children have completely reopened my eyes to the world and I jokingly always say I?m back at university. I?m back having to learn every single day because they challenge me in that way.?

I would think that Jackson and August are at the age where they see their school peers and their peers? families and wonder why there isn?t a man in mom?s life. It?s not that her daughters honestly believe that Charlize needs a man, it?s just that they don?t know what it would look like and they?re curious. But yeah, it?s best to begin the feminist indoctrination as soon as possible. Start ?em young! Mommy doesn?t need a man because mommy is a badass who won?t settle for anything less than she deserves.

While I have sympathy for Kim Kardashian in her current situation with Kanye West, I do find it funny/interesting that ?sources close to Kim? keep updating TMZ and People Magazine constantly. Kim is basically publicly narrating her back-and-forth decision-making process about whether she?ll divorce Kanye. It?s a difficult decision and it?s not one she?s making out suddenly. Last week, ?sources? were convinced that Kim was inches away from filing for divorce. This week, those sources say that Kanye and Kim have been in contact more consistently and that he?s promised to do better by her, and he apparently told her he wanted to take her away on a family holiday. So that?s what they?re doing:
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West wanted an appropriate setting to try and save their marriage, and weve learned, when they jumped on that private jet with their kids, they flew to a tropical island outside the country to take a trip thats very different from every other.
The Kardashians are famously photographed everywhere they go, but on this trip, its designed specifically so there will be NO PHOTOS. Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ, the fam is staying in what is described as a fortress an estate that is so remote its virtually impossible for trespassers to get close.
Its interesting there is total radio silence as to how the vacation is going. As we reported, this could be the final test on the marriage. They have had relatively little contact over the last few months, and Kanyes pronouncements at the South Carolina campaign rally and on twitter clearly didnt help.
[From TMZ]
You know what I find sort of heartbreaking about this? This is not the first time Kim has literally had to drag Kanye away when he?s having a massive, public manic episode. She did it in 2018, during his difficult-to-watch manic episode which saw him glassy-eyed and ranting in the Oval Office. Immediately following that episode which seemed more like Kanye was in a fugue state Kim took him to Uganda and they were ?away? for several weeks and Kanye was only photographed once. This is just a repeat of that Kim trying to protect Kanye, trying to get him in a healthier place, trying to get him to spend time away from everything. How many times is Kim going to be the one who steps in and says enough? And how many times will she be insulted and mocked and slammed for trying to do what?s best for him?

Spoilers for season one and two of The Umbrella Academy Follow. A major spoiler is not visible unless you highlight it.
I have been waiting a full damn year for season two of Netflixs Umbrella Academy and it did not disappoint. In season one we learn that the Umbrella Academy was helmed by an eccentric old scientist who adopted seven children with special powers (most likely because they were all supernaturally born on the same day, October 1, 1989). There may have been more but the kids dont know because they have lived most of their lives in isolation.
Their father, the eccentric, wouldnt give them actual names, they were instead given numbers based on the order they were born. Six were brought up to embrace their supernatural abilities except for Vanya, who was treated less then because she supposedly didnt have any abilities. But she found out that she was actually the most powerful and that their father had been microdosing her to mute her her powers. This led to Vanya being abused to the point that she goes off like a nuclear bomb that breaks the moon and causes a cataclysmic event that wipes out the planet.
#5, who is a time jumper, ends up sending himself and his siblings to the past in order to avoid said event. This is where we find Vanya, in the early 1960s, without her memories living with a farming family somewhere in the middle of Texas. She is taken in by husband and wife Sissy and Carl and becomes the nanny of their special needs son Harlan.
Vanya and Sissy fall in love and I wont tell you more or well get into serious spoilers.
Ellen Page, who plays Vanya, spoke with E! about the beauty and obstacles of a lesbian relationship in the 60s. Homosexuality was not only against the law but considered a mental illness. Ellen explained how that story line is relevant today.
It was beautiful in many ways to play Vanya falling in love for the first time with a woman, and not in an awful, abusive relationship like she was in the first season, thank goodness, she says. And then you want to take care of the storyline. You want to make sure youre showing the beauty and the love, and also reflecting the obstacles, of course.
She says that while a lot has changed since the 1960s, she still experiences homophobia in her own life and thinks Vanya and Sissys story doesnt feel totally stuck in the past.
It was illegal at the time, considered a mental illness, and what Vanya and Sissy go through is still very relevant, she says. Ive dealt with a lot of homophobia in my life, and I continue to. So I think it was really meaningful in terms of that representation going out into the world, especially with a show with this reach, and also just trying to be mindful of being sensitive and hopefully telling that story well.
[From E! Online]
Season two of Umbrella Academy was chaotic AF but I loved every minute of it. Vanyas love story arc, albeit sad, was very beautiful and somewhat of a history lesson of how far the LGBTQ community has come. It was also warming to see Vanya in a reciprocal love relationship after her characters trials in season one.
I also love how sensitively Ellen Page approached the story. You could see how she honored and respected her character.
Highlight the text below for spoilers for the end of season two
I wish that Sissy had chosen to go to the future with Vanya taking her son with her. Since we cant have a happy ending for Vanya, I hope in future seasons she will get the love and support she so rightly deserves. I am also excited about where they take one of the cliffhangers at the end of the season. Specifically, the one in which Sissys son Harlan retained his powers accidentally acquired from Vanya. Whatever the case, I am quite sure Season 3 will have some crazy character arcs and I cant wait to see what the writers come up with next!
