The CFDA Awards, short for Council of Fashion Designers of America, were held Monday in New York. You can see the list of winners here. Beyonce was honored as was Bowie, and there was a tribute to Bowie performed by Michael C. Hall (he starred in Bowie’s musical, “Lazarus”), with Tilda Swinton there to accept on Bowie’s behalf, which was fitting. There were a lot of models, a few celebrities and many fashion people there.
Like the Met Gala, the celebrities posed with the designers they were wearing, hence Olivia Wilde here with Rosie Assoulin. Assoulin looks like she’s wearing sparkly pajamas with wedges, but I like the fact that she put a very pregnant lady in a cutout dress, there’s something inspired about that. The cutouts look unfinished though, they have little ties around them and for some reason the sleeves have thumb holes. The sweater dress doesn’t look polished with the way it gathers around the cutouts. If someone put me in sparkly blue eyeshadow and then rimmed my eyes all over with black liner I would wipe it off and do it myself, but she still looks pretty somehow. I really like her mosaic jewelry, that’s unique and goes well with this dress. Olivia announced her pregnancy in April, meaning she should be about five or six months along by now but I bet she’s due sometime this summer.
America Ferrera was in Kate Spade and this is just a snooze of a gown. It’s got a line of rectangular brooches across the collar and waistline, her jewelry mirrors the embellishments on the gown down to the color and it’s all too conservative and formulaic. Spade’s fashion is preppy but can be whimsical so this is disappointing.
Olivia Culpo was also in Kate Spade, in a jacket and short feather skirt. I like how daring this combo is but I’d like to see a pop of color somewhere. Still, this is fun.
Here’s Selma Blair and Alicia Silverstone, both in Christian Siriano. Selma looks kind of wacky in that one sleeve tuxedo suit with the asymmetric vest train. She’s almost owning that look, I can’t quite decide. Alicia looks amazing in that red gown with the twisted straps and a high leg slit. The bodice fits her like a dream. She’s 39 and looks about 10 years younger. Whenever I see Alicia Silverstone or Heather Graham I’m tempted to go vegan.

| Heidi Klum in Roland Mouret at the CFDAs: patchwork mess or fashion-forward? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Heidi Klum has actually been dressed decently at a few events over the past few months, although she still gets it wrong about as often as she gets it right. So this piecework Roland Mouret isn’t as terrible as some of the other looks we’ve seen from her, but it looks like someone took fabric scraps and made a dress. I do like how well this is tailored for her but the folding and draping along the top look messy coupled with the same effect on the side of the skirt. These fabrics look random and the pieces aren’t even cut evenly, but maybe I’m missing something.
Michelle Monaghan’s Off White gown makes more sense to me in that there’s a pleated silver panel peeking through and it has a finished bodice and frayed hem. The idea is decent but the top looks too small for her. Those tiny Little Mermaid-type bustlines on dresses look ridiculous.
Here’s Christina Ricci in a black Coach dress with gold beaded piping. I’m trying to figure out when she dyed her hair blonde and I think we first saw it at the SAG Awards earlier this year. I prefer her as a brunette. She seems to have gone blonde for her role in Mothers and Daughters, with Susan Sarandon, which is out already. She’s dirty blonde for her role as Zelda Fitzgerald in Amazon’s Z: The Beginning of Everything, which has a pilot out and was picked up for a full series. Anyway this dress is underwhelming, but I saw some of the detailing in a close up photo she took for Instagram and the top is very vintage looking and pretty.
Olivia Palermo was in a Pink and white Carolina Herrera gown, also with gold piping. I like the idea of this dress better than the execution. It has some interesting design features but it’s just kind of there. Maybe I would like this more if it was fitted. This is Olivia’s husband, German model Johannes Huebl. They’re so attractive together!
Gillian Jacobs was in a Pink and navy Tanya Taylor dress with embroidered flowers across each side. This dress is decent but not great. I don’t like the colors together nor do I think the shoes go but I still love Gillian. Her attitude wins me over. Gillian recently told Larry King that everyone from Community is on board for a movie, if creator Dan Harmon decides to write one. She said “We would all love to do it once he gets around to writing it.” You can see her talking about that here.

Actress Hilary Swank and her professional tennis playing beau, Ruben Torres, have called off their engagement. This is the latest celebrity breakup on the heels of celebrity couples Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama and Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris – among others.
The 41-year-old Oscar winner and the tennis pro had been dating since July of 2015. They got engaged during a Palm Springs trip this March. It would have been the second marriage for Hilary, who was married to Chad Lowe from 1997 to 2007.
Hilary quietly removed her engagement announcement from social media and was photographed sans her diamond and emerald engagement ring at the 2016 French Open on Saturday. Hilary posted photos from the event on her Instagram page as well.

| Selena Gomez to perform in NC, will donate proceeds to LGBTQ group | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

North Carolina?s controversial Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act (HB2) requires people to use the designated bathroom of the sex assigned on their birth certificate. Several artists and companies have boycotted North Carolina in a show of support for the LGBTQ community that this bill alienates. Selena Gomez, who kicked off her Revival tour last month, is scheduled to play at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte tonight. After weighing her options, she decided to move forward with the concert but is still sending a message of support to the LGBTQ community. Not only did she confirm that the arena has gender neutral facilities, Selena will donate a portion of the concert?s proceeds to Equality North Carolina to assist in defeating HB2.
Selena Gomez isn?t canceling her upcoming Tuesday, June 7, show in North Carolina, but she?s taking a stand against the ?bathroom bill? in a different way.
?I am fortunate to have grown up in a home where I learned from an early age that everyone should be treated equally,? the 23-year-old pop star said in a statement to Billboard. ?I went back and forth on whether I should cancel my concert in North Carolina and ultimately I think what is right for me is to move forward with my show and donate a portion of the proceeds to Equality North Carolina and their effort to defeat this act of discrimination.?
Gomez added that she and her team have done everything they can to ensure that they are promoting the anti-HB2 sentiments that so many of her fellow musicians have already espoused.
?I?ve been reassured the venue I will be performing in has gender neutral bathrooms as I want everyone coming to my show to be welcomed,? she continued. ?I feel like my generation is the most progressive one yet and believe there will be a day soon when laws like HB2 won?t even be a consideration.?
[From Us Magazine]
Joel McHale also donated proceeds from his scheduled performance to Durham’s LGBTQ Center as opposed to canceling his show. I believe Selena considered her decision carefully and took the action she felt would send a message. I appreciate that her public statement included the fact that she ensured the venue had gender-neutral bathrooms.
I want to acknowledge the commenters from North Carolina who have assured us that the archaic views behind HB2 and the governor that passed it do not represent everyone in the state; I believe you and feel your pain. However, I do want to see this bill struck down and support all forms of opposition to it; be it boycotts like Brice Springsteen’s or statements like Selena and Joel’s. Pressure grows from corporations as companies like PayPal and Hyatt and celebrities make good on their promise to pull out of NC. Financial institutions continue to fight the bill on their end. If the Human Rights Campaign can get the FAA to cut airport grants, this discriminatory bill might finally die on the vine, as it should.

| Kate Moss & her 13-year-old daughter Lila Grace cover Vogue Italia: sweet? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Perhaps the ?in? thing for magazines this year is mother-daughter covers? Cindy Crawford and her 14-year-old daughter Kaia covered Vogue Paris several months back, and many people loved and praised the image. And now this ? Kate Moss and her 13-year-old daughter Lila Grace cover the new issue of Vogue Italia. Thoughts? I think Lila will look more like her mom as she gets into her mid-to-late teens. Right now, she?s just an interesting blend of both of her parents (her dad is Jefferson Hack).
When Cindy and Kaia covered Vogue Paris in March, I sort of assumed that Cindy was trying to gently open some doors for her daughter, who already has representation at a modeling agency. Like, the deal between Kaia and Cindy is that Kaia can model but only if Cindy gets to be hands-on about her career. I wonder about Lila and Kate?s dynamic, whether Lila is even interested in modeling like her famous mum, or if Lila is just a normal kid, untouched by her mother?s career. Jefferson Hack did provide some clues in a recent interview, saying:
“I spend a lot of time with Lila Grace. She’s 13 and my relationship with her and her mum, Kate, is the thing I’m most proud of. That is life with a capital L. Everything else is window dressing. I have Lila at least one night in the week and every other weekend. We use FaceTime most evenings. She thinks me and her mum are deeply uncool. I don’t think her music tastes are cool – Capital radio and Justin Bieber. She keeps me real. I’m not on Snapchat. It’s wrong when parents act like their kids. I don’t buy into the ‘my mum’s my best friend’ ethos. Kate’s a great mum and they have a fantastic relationship.”
[From The Daily Mirror]
Yes, when you?re 13 years old, everything about your parents is deeply and profoundly uncool, even if your mother is literally the coolest person in England. In Kate?s recent Edit cover interview, she even admitted that Lila isn?t even into clothes right now. So now I?m imagining Kate and Lila as Edina Monsoon and Saffy. It would be absolutely amazing if Kate Moss ended up with a tightly-wound conservative daughter who has no interest in clothes or cool parties.

| Kim Kardashian to her haters: 'I respect you. You don't have to look at what I do' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Back in March, Kim Kardashian caused a commotion when she published a nude selfie on her social media. She actually put black bars over her business, but the commotion still reached a fever pitch. I?m really, really tired of talking about it at this point, but here?s my little recap: some people went really crazy, basically saying that Kim is terrible role model and an awful mother just because she posted that photo. Some other people then reacted and defended Kim?s right to do whatever the hell she wanted with her body without moralizing pearl-clutchers body-policing her. Kim made the argument that she?s a feminist and she should be able to do whatever she wants as long as she doesn?t hurt anyone. She basically said she was empowered by her nude selfies and that there?s nothing wrong with a woman having sexual agency.
Well, Kim is still talking about it. Because who would have thought that one of the biggest pop culture moments of the year would be Kim getting naked yet again? Not even Kim realized that the selfie would become such a big deal. Kim chatted with the Recode Decode podcast on Monday, and she talked more about it:
She still doesn?t get why that selfie was such a BFD: ?When I posted this photo and I had blonde hair and I put the two censor bars, I truly was baffled when people still cared and the response that people gave. They have seen me naked 500 times!?
So why was it a BFD? ?Some people were outraged because I am a mom, some people were so supportive [?] I just think it looks good, I am really not trying to cause a reaction? My personality has never been, ?I?m such a feminist and follow me and be naked!..? If you are conservative and that?s how you are comfortable, more power to you. I respect you. You don?t have to look at what I do.?
She actually thinks she?s more discreet these days: ?Pre-marriage, pre-babies, the answer would have been everything was shareable. After, I would say I keep a good 30 percent to myself.?
She doesn?t mind how she?s portrayed in the media: ?I don?t have a problem with people reporting on things, except for when it?s not accurate. I?m so open. There are so many ways to get to me to find out if it?s accurate or not? Old journalism used to be so accurate, and it?s just not like that anymore [?] that?s what I love about social media. Now the journalist doesn?t have the final say. If you want to, you can refute what?s being said about you that?s not true and clarify it.?
[From People]
?If you are conservative and that?s how you are comfortable, more power to you. I respect you. You don?t have to look at what I do.? That?s what I never got about all of the anti-Kim outrage. Like, she?s just doing her thing. She posts semi-nude selfies regularly. She?s vapid and superficial and she doesn?t pretend to be anything other than that. But she?s also never said that women should be more like her, or that people should follow her lead on nude selfies or anything else. Kim does Kim and she hopes that you do you. Live and let live, peeps.

| Amber Heard met with Gloria Allred for a four-hour 'consultation' last Friday | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Real question: if a powerful man abused, harassed or assaulted you, would you go to Gloria Allred for help? Allred is well-known for throwing together press conferences with new clients, almost always women, to publicly accuse some powerful man of something terrible. Allred gets attention and media sympathy for her clients, absolutely. But is she the smart choice for every victimized woman? I really don?t know. But Amber Heard wanted to listen to what Gloria Allred had to say. According to People, Amber had a consultation with Allred last Friday.
Amber Heard has had a “consultation” with renowned feminist lawyer lawyer Gloria Allred’s California firm Allred Maroko Goldberg, a source tells PEOPLE. Heard, the source says, had a four-hour meeting with the firm in Los Angeles on Friday amid her ongoing acrimonious divorce from husband Johnny Depp, whom she alleges continually abused her. In addition to the divorce proceedings, Heard also filed a defamation lawsuit against comedian Doug Stanhope last week after he accused her of blackmailing Depp and lying about the alleged domestic abuse.
Allred, 74, is known for tackling high-profile cases. She represented the pseudonymous plantiff Jane Roe in the landmark abortion-rights case Roe v Wade, Scott Peterson’s girlfriend Amber Frey in the Laci Peterson murder case, and several women who have accused Bill Cosby of sexual abuse. Allred typically works with discrimination and sexual-abuse lawsuits, and sometimes serves as a publicist and advocate for women’s rights.
[From People]
The way People Magazine framed their article, I guess we?re supposed to think that the consultation was more about Amber?s defamation suit against Doug Stanhope rather than her divorce and possible criminal complaint against Johnny Depp. But really, Allred would probably love to be involved in any way. What?s weird is that I think Amber has great representation already. The way she and her lawyers have already coordinated their attack on Depp will probably be used as a case study for divorces where the estranged husband is an abuser and a douchebag. Heard and her current lawyers were able to change the narrative around the divorce in the course of 48 hours, basically. So? sure, it?s good that Amber is consulting other lawyers but I think she should probably stick to her current peeps. Unless this consultation is basically yet another warning shot. Beware, Team Depp: Amber is fully prepared to have Gloria Allred climb up your asses for YEARS.
