We got some exciting reveals in the run up to The Devil Wears Prada 2 being released. One was the real Emily Charlton (played by Emily Blunt in the original film) unmasking herself after 20+ years! Her name is Leslie Fremar and she parlayed her time at Vogue into a great career as a stylist to the stars, including Charlize Theron. Next, a central plot point to the sequel was leaked (which I will repeat here so proceed knowing that spoilers lay ahead). The big twist was that Justin Theroux was playing Emily Blunt?s love interest and that his character was a take on Jeff Bezos, in turn casting Emily in the Lauren Sanchez role. Keep in mind, all this was written and filmed a year before it was announced that The Bezoses were ?sponsoring? the Met Gala for $10-20 million. So, did the send up in the movie ruffle a few billionaire feathers? That?s what Radar Online says, claiming Jeff Bezos BANNED Justin Theroux from the Met Gala this year as punishment. Do we buy it?
Justin Theroux is the star who was allegedly banned from the Manhattan bash on May 4 after his character in The Devil Wears Prada 2, billionaire Benji Barnes, was widely believed to be based on Bezos.
?Justin?s character is Jeff, plain and simple,? a source dished to Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, who wrote about it on Substack.
?And Jeff has zero sense of humor when the joke is about him ? or Lauren. He can laugh at almost anything else. But mock him, mock her, and you?re done.?
Theroux plays a divorced billionaire tycoon who undergoes a dramatic glow-up by shedding weight and becoming a far more polished, stylish power player after falling for Emily Blunt?s glamorous fashionista, Emily Charlton, a storyline some claim hit a nerve with Bezos.
The billionaire famously morphed from a skinny, socially awkward tech mogul into a buffed-up luxury-loving alpha male after getting together with curvaceous vixen Sanchez in 2019 and divorcing his wife of 25 years, Mackenzie Scott.
?Jeff did not find it funny,? a second source claimed. ?Not the parody, not the performance, not the Lauren angle ? noen of it. And once Jeff was offended, Justin was never getting through that door.?
In the film, there?s another tip to Bezos? life: Benji?s ex-wife, played by Lucy Liu, dedicates her life to philanthropy post-divorce, just as Scott did with the $38.3 billion she got in the former couple?s divorce settlement.
Blunt?s character is also the ?star? of the high-powered coupling of the fashion queen and billionaire, becoming a chief executive at Dior. It?s not far from how Sanchez has been desperate to reinvent herself as a patron of fashion and design.
There had even been reports in 2025 that Bezos was circling an attempt to purchase Vogue?s parent company, Cond Nast, as a wedding present to Sanchez. The rumors intensified after the former TV news reporter was given the digital cover of Vogue following the couple?s June 2025 nuptials.
In the film, Benji attempts to buy the fictional Runway magazine so Emily can run it.
Theroux has been a popular presence at the Met Gala, having attended four times. He walked the stylish steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2004, 2010, 2018, and 2019.

Yeah, I don?t think I?m sold on this one. According to Radar?s sources, Bezos can?t take a joke, but they say he?s even more upset when someone pokes fun at his wife. (Meaning the man must be livid 24/7.) Sooooooo, why ban only Justin Theroux and not Emily Blunt as well? Or everyone from the film for that matter? But here?s where I really think the idea falls apart like last year?s fillers: whatever money Anna Wintour deigns to accept for the gala, I don?t think she?d ever relinquish control of the guest list. At least, not while she?s living, and even after that I don?t doubt she?ll find a way. The most reasonable explanation for Justin?s absence is that he and wife Nicole Brydon Bloom just welcomed a baby! Nicole already showed up for the DWP2 NYC red carpet very very very recently post-partum; I bet/hope Justin was like, ?fulfilled contractually required promo duties, we?re nesting at home now, peace.? Also, lol to Radar calling Justin a ?popular presence? at the Met? and then naming the FOUR times he?s been over the last 22 years.
Lastly, while I love the idea of poking fun at the Bezoses in DWP2, something about comparing Emily Charlton to Lauren Sanchez has never sat right with me. In the first movie, Emily Charlton is a genuine fashionista with real style. Whereas Lauren Sanchez has the uncanny ability to make anything look cheap. I understand how it all ties together for the story they wanted to tell, but I think they did Emily?s character dirty. I said what I said!

The Timothee Chalamet lashings continue. It?s so funny. Last month, Chalamet did a bizarre CNN townhall where he and Matthew McConaughey pontificated about acting and art. At one point, Chalamet said: ?I don?t want to be working in ballet or opera where it?s like, ?Hey, keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore.? All respect to the ballet and opera people out there. I just lost 14 cents in viewership.? In the week before the Oscars, Chalamet was dragged to hell and back by ballet companies, opera communities, classical musicians and pretty much everyone else. Well, Charlize Theron decided to chime in. She was being interviewed by the NYT about her life, her family, her work and her past life as a would-be ballerina. That?s when Charlize unloaded on Timothee Chalamet.
NYT: What are the mental challenges of doing movies like [Apex]? Because it?s not just a physical game, it?s mental.
Theron: Dance is probably one of the hardest things I ever did. Dancers are superheroes. What they put their bodies through in complete silence.
NYT: Sorry, Timothe Chalamet.
Theron: Oh, boy, I hope I run into him one day. That was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time. But in 10 years, A.I. is going to be able to do Timothe?s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live. And we shouldn?t [expletive] on other art forms. Dance taught me discipline. It taught structure. It taught hard work. It taught me to be tough. It?s borderline abusive. There were several times that I had blood infections from blisters that just never healed. And you don?t get a day off. I?m literally talking about bleeding through your shoes. And that?s something that you have to practice every single day, the mind-set of just, you don?t give up, there?s no other option, you keep going.

Now that we?re a few weeks away from Timothee?s comments, it feels completely crazy that he actually said that in the first place. To completely disrespect and dismiss those two performative art forms, to say that no one cares about ballet or opera, and in essence suggesting that people who engage with ballet, dance or opera are wasting their time? Like, WTF was he thinking? Anyway, I would pay good money to watch Charlize body-slam Timmy. Make it into a movie!
BTW, Charlize?s NYT interview was really good and worth a read in its entirety. She spoke in great depth about the circumstances around her mother killing her father in South Africa when she (Charlize) was just a little girl. Her backstory really makes you understand why she is the way she is and the way she carries herself.

Charlize Theron is an African immigrant turned naturalized American citizen. She lives in LA full-time, but she maintains her roots in South Africa. She founded the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project in 2007, and from time to time, she hosts large fundraisers for her charity. Over the weekend, she hosted the fifth CTAOP ?Block Party? with tons of celebrities in attendance. At the event, Charlize spoke about the damage the Trump administration has done to immigrant communities, as well the damage done to American funding of international aid:
Charlize Theron hosted the fifth annual Block Party for her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project on Saturday night, where she got real about how, in 2025, ?the world feels like it?s burning.? Theron took the stage to kick off the event ? which raises funds to help CTAOP support the health and safety of youth in her native South Africa ? on the Universal Studios backlot, deadpanning, ?I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding. But that?s OK because they suck and we?re cool.?
She went on to thank attendees for ?taking the time to be a part of this, especially when the world feels like it?s burning because it is. Here in Los Angeles, in the U.S. and across the globe, we?re moving backwards fast. Immigration policy has destroyed the lives of families, not criminals; women?s rights are becoming less and less every day; queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased; and gender-based violence is on the rise. This isn?t just policy, it?s personal.? As the crowd clapped, she added, ?Yeah, fk them.?
Theron immigrated to the U.S. as a teen while pursuing a career in Hollywood. She was deported at 19 for overstaying her work visa; she was later allowed to return and became a U.S. citizen in 2007. The star also called out ?foreign aid cuts [that] have brought HIV and AIDS programs in my home country of South Africa to an absolute standstill. All of this is not just detrimental, it?s dangerous; people will lose their lives ? many have already, unfortunately, and at a frightening rate. It?s absolutely heartbreaking to see this kind of unnecessary suffering.?
?But what we also see, what we cannot miss, is the resistance. There is hope. There is power in all of us standing up, organizing, protesting, voting, and caring for each other, and refusing to accept that this is the new normal,? she continued. ?That spirit of resistance, justice and care for each other, that?s the spirit that drives the work at CTAOP. And although our focus is on the youth in Southern Africa, what we?re really talking about here tonight is that all lives should be valued. Everyone should have the right to be healthy and safe and should be able to be seen.?

We?ve talked about this before, but having your kids find you slightly embarrassing is one of those rites of passages for a parent. Every generation deals with this! Despite a parent?s best efforts, every kid knows what it means to be embarrassed by their parents. Earlier this year, Sheryl Crow shared a story about how her teenage sons find most of what she does publicly to be ?cringey.? Poor Charlize Theron also knows what this is like. Charlize Theron is the mother of two daughters named Jackson, 11, and August, nine. During an event for her charity Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, Charlize told E! News that there?s ?a lot of girl? in her house, and that her daughters are officially of the age where they?re ?constantly? embarrassed by her.
?Oh, my God, theyre so embarrassed by me constantly,? she told E! News? Francesca Amiker at her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) 2024 Block Party July 13. ?They?re kids, theyre girls, you know? I have a preteen and I feel like I have a nine year old who thinks shes a 13 year old. It?s a lot of girl in our house.?
The 48-year-old continued, ?Im just trying to keep my head above water, because they are smart and they are witty and they are firecrackers, but they do not go, ?Oh my god, Mom, youre so amazing.? They?re like, ?Excuse me, I need. I want.??

Oh man, it sounds like the Theron household is never quiet and always an adventure. I bet Jackson and August keep her on her toes! I have two sisters and no brothers, so I completely understand what Charlize is talking about when she says it?s a very ?girl? household. I?m the oldest and my youngest sister and I had a tendency to talk back, but my middle sister knew how to play the game and work the refs. It made me so mad at the time, but looking back, I respect her game. That said, I?m beginning to think that the label is a bit misleading. I have two boys and have been surprised by just how much attitude my 10-year-old is starting to get! No one prepared me for this. Someone help me when he?s an actual tween/teen. Neither of them are routinely embarrassed by me yet, but I know it?s only a matter of time. I need to start planning what to do when that day comes.

Pre-strike, Charlize Theron gave several interviews to promote her Dior contract. I don?t actually think it would have been in violation of strike promotional guidelines if she gave the interviews during the strike, but whatever, I just thought I?d mention that this InStyle piece was done months ago. Charlize has been the face of Diors Jadore perfume for nearly two decades, and now she?s the face of Dior?s latest fragrance, LOr de Jadore. Charlize chatted with InStyle about sense memory, how she applies perfume and the ?90s trend she hated the most. Some highlights:
The cloud mist? strategy for applying perfume: Her spritzing method allows her to enjoy all the facets of a scent without overwhelming her nose and ? most importantly ? her skin. I find direct [contact] on the skin becomes, for me, a little aggressive, and then I miss the subtle tones to it. Whereas when I do the cloud mist, I feel like I get more of the depth of field. I get a better sense of the other dimensions of the scent, especially since its constantly changing as your day goes by.
Sense memory from her childhood in South Africa. There was always something about rain hitting dust ? it creates this smell thats just so unique. I get very excited when I see rain because then I look for some dust, some dirt, and I try to recreate it. Ive never been able to. But that is a very nostalgic smell for me. When I go back and we have our rains in South Africa, its everywhere. You can smell it everywhere. Man, it just fills my soul. Im like, This is home.'
Fragrance mastermind Francis Kurkdjian created LOr: Hes infused classic Jadore notes of rose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang with orange blossom, lily of the valley, and violet for a rich floral scent thats warm and rounded ? perfect for a sweet fall scent. Its beautiful, says Theron. The floral tones are just so layered.
She doesn?t incorporate scent into character-building: I sometimes go as far as just eliminating even scent in my soap. Because I am very sensitive to smell, any kind of smell can just really take me out of it. So its become more about elimination than about adding.
Her beauty regret: Hands down, the thin eyebrows in the 90s. Im still recovering from that.

Unpopular opinion, but I think the bushy-eyebrow trend will come back to haunt people years from now, moreso than the thin eyebrows from the ?90s. While overplucking never looks good, neither does the big, dark, caterpillar-brow trend. As for applying perfume? I find it depends on the perfume. If I?m wearing something cheap (like a body spray) or I just want a light scent, I do the cloud mist thing too, and I walk into the perfume cloud. If I actually want to smell the perfume on my skin, I spray it directly on my throat and wrists.

It?s pretty random for this rumor to get a second life five years later! Especially since Charlize, to me, doesn?t seem to prioritize romance or even hooking up. Her priorities are her daughters and her mom. She?s built a wall around her family unit. Sean Penn briefly scaled the wall and something happened between them Charlize ran away and ghosted him and she doesn?t want to talk about any of it. Charlize doesn?t really seem to have a type. Charlize Theron had a totally gnarly b-day over the weekend, dudes. Charlize, who turned 46, celebrated with an 80s prom-themed murder mystery on a boat. About a week ago, she?d posted a short video of her and her daughters jumping from a boat. So, I dug around and found out that they are vacationing on what looks to be a luxury yacht off the Greek island Paros along with Charlize?s mom, Gerda. My guess is her friends flew in for her birthday over the weekend and staged this murder mystery party, replete with big hair, ?killer? fashion and what sounds like Charlize?s every wish come true.

On Saturday, the actress rang in her 46th birthday by revealing that she celebrated her special day with a 1980s prom-themed, murder mystery party on a boat.
Theron shared an image of herself wearing a Pink Birthday Girl T-shirt, which she accessorized with a pair of denim jean shorts and colorful bead necklaces around her neck. The Mad Max: Fury Road star also posted a group photo from the celebration, where each of her guests played their parts dressed in decades-old fashion.
Well I never got to go to prom, but this year for my bday my friends decided to change that, Theron wrote. I love these humans more than words can describe.
Only they could know that an 80s prom murder mystery party on a boat is my literal dream birthday. What a family, what a night ?, she added.

I love that this was Charlizes prom! I?m reading the element of surprise in her caption. I can?t imagine the logistics of coordinating a surprise party with people flying in, on a boat, in another country. My guess is she?d planned on her friends coming to Greece for her birthday, but maybe she didn?t know they?d arranged for the 80s murder mystery party. Whatever the story, it looks like a great time, an 80s-themed prom murder mystery sounds like a blast. CB just invited me to my first murder mystery party with her Zoom group. I had such a great time (thanks, everyone!) And that was online, I can only imagine what running around a yacht would add. My guess is the Prom Queen was the victim, in which case I?m voting the cheerleader the killer. It?s always the cheerleader. Whoever was convicted, I?m glad Charlize got the party of her dreams and was able to relive its glory in the beauty of Greece the following day. Sounds magical.
Although? I have some notes. That?s a lot of tulle for a prom? or anything outside a ballet recital or a Madonna video. Props to the Hammer pants, but the overall sleeve game is weak. There should be poufs, huge shoulders and drapes everywhere (weather is no excuse, see: Miami Vice.) Mostly the hair gets top marks, although I?m disappointed not see one side pony in the whole group. They got the size of the cell phones right, though.
What would your ideal murder mystery party theme be? Mine would be society wedding with either the bride or the mother of the bride as the victim.

One of my favorite Netflix movies from last year will begin filming its sequel in early 2022 and I am stoked. Having to wait another year for The Old Guard is gagging me but if the sequel is good the wait will be well worth it. Charlize Theron confirmed to Variety that the script for The Old Guard 2 was completed and that they will start filming in 2022. Charlize also said that Nicky and Joe will be returning and I am excited (they were the best same sex couple on Netflix last year in my opinion). Below are a few more details from Variety:
It?s official! Charlize Theron tells me that the script is done for the sequel to ?The Old Guard,? her Netflix film adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name. Cameras will start rolling in the first quarter of 2022. The gay couple, played by Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli, will be back, too. ?Oh, yeah!? Theron says. ?They?re definitely there.?

I need to read the graphic novels so that I know what is actually going on. I went looking on the Google for more information about the storyline and to see if original director Gina Prince-Bythewood would be returning to direct and I found nothing. Gina was tapped to do #2 when Netflix announced the sequel but things can change and nothing has been confirmed. I absolutely loved what Gina did with the original material and the entire cast was phenomenal. And I love the fact that the first film had a female-led production team. The breakout star in the first movie of course was Kiki Layne and I know she will be returning. I also hope that Kikis Nile will get that love interest that she was hoping for. My favorite gay couple is back too and I am looking forward to seeing where Netflix takes this franchise. And the bonus of being a fan of The Old Guard is I get to continue to see Charlize kicking ass and being a badass on my screen.

Theron ? who has two adopted children; 8-year-old Jackson and 5-year-old August ? continued, telling her daughter that she?s in a relationship with herself right now. ?She had this look in her eye like she had never really contemplated that that was even a possibility. Her mind was blown. But, I know that was the day that she realized there?s a different possibility.?
She said she has thrown herself into motherhood ? and had wanted to adopt since she was 8 years old. She has been honest about raising her transgender daughter Jackson, alongside her other daughter August, and said: ?The thing that was really eye-opening to me was, my children kind of came to me in this unexpected way, where you know ? I didn?t know I was going to be the mom to two African-American girls. I didn?t know I was going to be the mom to an African-American trans girl. All of these things have kind of made me more aware of how little I know. My children have completely reopened my eyes to the world and I jokingly always say I?m back at university. I?m back having to learn every single day because they challenge me in that way.?

I would think that Jackson and August are at the age where they see their school peers and their peers? families and wonder why there isn?t a man in mom?s life. It?s not that her daughters honestly believe that Charlize needs a man, it?s just that they don?t know what it would look like and they?re curious. But yeah, it?s best to begin the feminist indoctrination as soon as possible. Start ?em young! Mommy doesn?t need a man because mommy is a badass who won?t settle for anything less than she deserves.
