Last week, Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, and director Jan de Bont reunited at Beyond Fest for a 30th anniversary screening of their movie, Speed. I love that movie (and Sandra and Keanu!) so much. As a part of the evening?s events, the trio did a Q&A about the movie. During the Q&A, Sandy spoke about her audition to play bus driver Annie Porter, which included describing a hilarious visual of acting out the scene using a folding chair and a paper plate as the steering wheel. Keanu and Jan also went down memory lane to to talk about her casting process. Of course, they also addressed the question of whether there?d be a third Speed movie.
?I was the new kid on the block and it was nerve-wracking,? Bullock said onstage at Beyond Fest at American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre on Oct. 8. ?I remember arriving there, I remember the car I drove, I remember what I was thinking.?
Turning to Reeves, 60, and Speed director Jan de Bont, she added, ?I walked in, I remember the room was kind of dark. You guys had it dark!?
But what made the audition especially memorable was the way de Bont, 80, and Reeves had improvised a makeshift bus. ?There was a folding chair, there was a paper plate,? said Bullock with a laugh. The plate, of course, ?was the steering wheel I was handed.?
So pretending to drive a bus with only ?Keanu, Jan, the carpeted floor, a folding chair and a paper plate,? she added, meant harnessing the power of her actorly imagination. ?All my acting classes all came together and went out the window,? quipped Bullock.
?The moment I saw you, I knew that you would be the driver,? de Bont said to Bullock, whose character takes over driving a Los Angeles bus rigged to explode if its speed drops below 50 mph.
Bullock acknowledged that that may have been the Dutch filmmaker?s takeaway from the audition, but added that she?s met actresses who were up for the role before her. ?You saw me after one, two and three couldnt do it,? she teased. ?Then you saw me in the dark room.?
Reeves, who in the film plays SWAT team officer Jack Traven, admitted that he remembered Bullock?s audition albeit without much detail. Of his own casting, he said, ?I met this mad genius [de Bont] and I was like, Oh, f, man. This is a director, this is a person with a vision. This is someone who has a passion for the story.?
The Matrix star added with a smile, ?Then I got Sandra.?
?No,? Bullock corrected playfully. ?There were three others.? When Reeves claimed he didn?t remember other actresses, she said, ?That is why I love him.?
?I have never been so proud of those two actors, what they did for me, reflected de Bont. What they had to do is just unbelievable. But the relationship that those two created together is absolutely amazing.?
Of the possibility of a third film ? which the Beyond Fest audience greeted with an enthusiastic round of applause ? de Bont said, ?I think it would be a different movie.? Nodding to Bullock and Reeves, he continued, ?It would be great to work with them [again].?
Bullock quipped that a Speed 3 would be ?the geriatric version. It wont be fast.?
Up next, Reeves will reprise his role as John Wick in 2025?s Ana De Armas spinoff Ballerina and star in Aziz Ansari?s Good Fortune. Bullock?s upcoming projects include a sequel to Practical Magic costarring Nicole Kidman.
[From People]
I did some Googling, and it looks like the other two actresses who were considered to play Annie were Halle Berry and Ellen DeGeneres. Halle was offered the role when the character was written as a paramedic (she declined and later regretted it) and Ellen was considered when it evolved into a comedic sidekick. I cannot see the Ellen casting at all and am super glad that they didn?t keep Annie as a comic relief. I think Halle could have done a good job with the role, but it would have been a different movie. Sandra?s casting as the bus driver was perfect, though, and I?m happy it introduced her to the rest of us.
Keanu and Sandra have both joked before about a third Speed movie being a ?geriatric version.? In a joint interview on the Speed-themed podcast ?50 MPH,? Keanu expressed interest in doing a third movie, while Sandy joked, ?Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Maybe.? I don?t need them to work together on another Speed movie, but if it?s going to happen, then I say embrace the action and make it the perfect opportunity to prove that 60 is the new 40!
One week since one of the best nights EVER A legendary night at the Egyptian Theatre celebrating the 30th anniversary of SPEED (1994) with filmmaker Jan de Bont + actors Sandra Bullock & Keanu Reeves for @beyondfest 2024!

| Sandra Bullock to Hoda Kotb on her birthday: turning 60 is pretty awesome | Added 129 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Hoda Kotb turned 60 last Friday, August 9. To celebrate the big 6-0, her Today cohost, Jenna Bush Hager threw her an on-air birthday party on Monday. The celebration was really well-done, too. The audience was given shirts and party hats to set the mood. Jenna gifted Hoda a painting of her favorite photo of her and her daughters that she commissioned her dad, former President George W. Bush to paint (he signed it ?43? lmao). Some of Hodas good friends showed up for a segment. Producers played a sequence that checked in on three different families who Hoda?s interviewed in the past that spoke about her much she?d change their lives. There were also special birthday wishes from Hoda?s mom, daughters, and none other than Sandra Bullock. Sandra, who herself turned 60 on July 26, had an inspirational and funny message for her friend. It was a really nice birthday tribute.
I had so many brilliant and funny things prepared for you for this message that were just going to slay, but you know girl, Im just too tired, said Bullock, who turned 60 on Friday, July 26.
The Practical Magic star also thanked Kotb for being so incredible to so many people.
What you do for a living and how you have to shape-shift every single day, how you navigate your kindness, even when thats not whats coming your way, she said. How you are to those you care about and how you keep them safe, and just who you are as a human being. Were all pretty lucky to have you, especially your kids.
Bullock ended the video with a personal message for Kotb.
Happy birthday, my sweet friend. Thank you for allowing me to be in your circle, said Bullock. I feel very grateful. And I have your bar set up, up here, so we can look at the view. It?s pretty beautiful, but I need you up here. Happy birthday.
Kotb, the parents of daughters Haley, 7, and Hope, 4, through adoption, got visibly emotional after watching the video message and expressed that she was inspired to become a mother after watching Bullocks motherhood journey.
?The reason that I have Haley and Hope is because when I was looking for inspiration of somebody who was a mom at my age, Sanda Bullock popped up and I called her and I said, Tell me about motherhood,' recalled Kotb. And she said, ?It is the best decision I ever made. And from that moment forward, she led the way to these two girls.
[From People]
That was a really sweet message from Sandra. She very rarely makes public appearances like this, which makes the whole video extra lovely. I had no idea that they were so close and had never heard that story before about Sandy being a supportive inspiration behind Hoda?s decision to adopt Haley and Hope. I must have missed it because Hoda did talk about it on-air back in 2018. How awesome is that?
As for her message, I love that Sandra is out there letting women and anyone else who needs to hear it that 60 isn?t the scary number taboo that it?s been made out to be in the past. Sure, it may not always feel great as we?re forced to embrace the changes our bodies go through as we get older, but every additional day, month, and year is a blessing. And Sandy addressed those changes with her joke about being too tired to think of a clever message. I?m only 40 and I feel that way almost every single day, ha. Happy Birthday to Hoda! May 60 be her best year yet.

Last week, we talked about the super exciting news that Practical Magic is getting a sequel. At the time of Warner Bros? announcement, all that was known was that the sequel was greenlit and that OG stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman were ?in talks? to return for it. Sounds like those talks went really well because both actresses have confirmed that they?ll be back! Last week, Kidman, who played Gillian, the older of the two Owens sisters, told People that there?s ?a lot more to tell? of the Owens? family story. This week, it was Bullock?s turn to comment on it. At an event in Los Angeles, she said she was excited about the sequel, exclaiming, ?Here comes trouble, but good trouble.?
The actress, 59, reunited with Griffin Dunne, the director of the original 1998 film, during a book party at the Georgian Hotel on Tuesday, June 18, for his memoir, The Friday Afternoon Club: A Family Memoir.
At the event, which was also attended by Mary McLaglen, the films line producer, Bullock opened up about her excitement for the upcoming sequel, expressing, Here comes trouble, but good trouble.
While it is not known if Dunne and McLagen are attached to the new project, Bullock praised Dunnes storytelling abilities, expressing, You feel like you were always in the back seat experiencing it all with him. He has lived more lives than a cat.
I don?t know anyone who has experienced what he has and can still manage to find the love and humor in even the darkest of places, she added.
In an interview with PEOPLE on Thursday, June 13, Nicole Kidman confirmed that she and Bullock are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming film, which has a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman.
Yes I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And thats that. Theres a lot more to tell which is why we go, OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this. We found a way in, said Kidman, 56. PEOPLE first reported that the actresses were in talks to star and produce the film on Monday, June 10.
The original film, based on the 1995 novel by Alice Hoffman of the same name, features Bullock and Kidman as the Owens sisters, a pair of witches who face a family curse that prevents them from ever finding lasting love by killing off the men theyre involved with.
While an official release date has not been set, Warner Bros. said it is in development and coming soon in a previous announcement.
[From People]
Well then, bring on this good trouble! I was so excited about this news that I ended up rewatching Practical Magic last weekend. I had forgotten how amazing that kitchen and whole house is. I do hope the sequel is still set on Maria?s Island. I also hope it doesn?t follow the same basic formula as the first movie, only sliding Sally?s daughters into the places of Gillian and Sally. I also really hope the rest of the cast comes back too! Let?s have something that involves all six Owens women and whatever children the new generation may have. Bring back Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, and Evan Rachel Wood! Bring back Aiden Quinn! Sally did not go through all of that heartbreak just to not end up with Gary in the end. And of course, there needs to be one midnight margarita scene. I went down a rabbit hole last week, reading about PM trivia. I didn?t realize that Sandra, Nicole, Stockard, and Dianne actually got drunk while filming that scene! Turns out, they really were drinking tequila, cheap stuff that Kidman brought to set. That?s too funny. I love that they all had that camaraderie in real life.

One of my favorite movies from the 1990s is Speed. It?s part of my action movie-loving origin story, lol. Speed stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves recently appeared on an episode of the 50 MPH podcast. They must have been the pod?s white whales, as it?s dedicated to talking about Speed! I believe this was Sandy?s first official interview since her partner, Bryan Randall, died. It?s nice to have her back and I wish her all the best. Every year, on April 23, I text my sisters the gif from Miss Congeniality, ha. I also love that movie! Anyway, during the 50 MPH episode, Keanu and Sandra talked about the first Speed, and whether they?d want to work together again. (Sandra and Keanu also co-starred in 2006?s The Lake House.) Yay, they do!
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are eager to reunite onscreen soon.
Bullock and Reeves, who famously costarred in 1994s Speed and 2006s The Lake House, appeared on the May 6 episode of the 50 MPH podcast ? a show entirely dedicated to the making of Speed ? where they discussed the action classic action and the possibility of working together again.
Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera, Bullock, 59, said, after the podcasts host Kris Tapley encouraged the pair to lobby for a third Speed movie. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Maybe.
Reeves, also 59, said he holds a mutual interest in making a third movie with Bullock, whether it is a Speed sequel or not.
It does feel like it?s ? there is a siren call to it, he said. I think I would love to work with you again before our eyes close. We?d freakin? knock it out of the park.
Speed, directed by Jan de Bont, follows Reeves as a police officer in Los Angeles tasked with disarming a bomb on a bus full of passengers primed to explode if the vehicles speed drops below 50 miles per hour. Bullock portrays a bus passenger who steps in to drive the bus after its driver is wounded.
The movie made $118 million at the domestic box office and proved the seventh highest-grossing film of 1994 in the U.S. Bullock later starred in a sequel to the movie, titled Speed 2: Cruise Control, that was produced without Reeves and featured a hijacked cruise ship rather than a bus. Reeves has shared multiple times that he chose not to star in the sequel because he did not like its script.
While host Tapley did not ask Bullock to speak to her experience filming the sequel, the Oscar winner did suggest that a third Speed could simply pick up where the second left off and thanked the podcast for taking me down memory lane.
I mean, I realize how much I block out and it?s nice to reflect on something that?s sweet. There?s not a lot of sweet, but, I just now I?m sort of filled with a full heart, Bullock said. I?m a little weepy, you know? It was a good time. It was a really good time. And we were very lucky. I was very lucky on many levels.?
[From People]
I would LOVE to see Sandra and Keanu do another movie together, but I really hope it?s not another Speed sequel. There?s no need to add it to the growing list of movies and franchises that have been revived or remade. We?re good! Instead, the only existing franchise that I?d MAYBE accept the two of them in is if Sandra tapped into her inner action star and joined Keanu to kick ass in the next John Wick. I can always use more John Wick in my life. (A requisite moment of silence for the amazing Lance Reddick.) But really, I?d love to see them do something new and different. And yes, I did see The Lake House but honestly, it was 18 years ago, and I can?t remember that much about it other than it felt like it was very long. Come on, Hollywood. Make this happen.

After all of the crap Sandra Bullock dealt with in her first and only marriage to Jesse James, she kept her romantic life out of the headlines. I didn?t even realize that she had been with Bryan Randall for the better part of eight years, that?s how low-key they were as a couple. They met in 2015 and they were together ever since. Last year, Sandra spoke about needing a break and being ?burnt out.? Most of us didn?t blink an eye or think anything of it, but it turns out that she took this break to care for Bryan, who battled ALS in the last three years of his life. Bryan Randall passed away on Sunday.
Sandra Bullocks longtime partner Bryan Randall died over the weekend, his family revealed in a statement to PEOPLE on Monday. He was 57.
It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS, his family shared. Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.
We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours, his family added. At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan, the statement concluded, signed, His Loving Family.
Bullock, 59, first met Randall, a model-turned-photographer, when he photographed her son Louiss birthday in January 2015. They took their relationship more public later that year, including an appearance at Jennifer Aniston and Justin Therouxs wedding.
Bullock, who is mother to her son Louis, 13, and daughter Laila, 10, addressed the topic of marriage during a December 2021 appearance on Red Table Talk.
I found the love of my life. We share two beautiful children? three children, [Randalls] older daughter. Its the best thing ever, Bullock said at the time. I dont wanna say do it like I do it, but I dont need a paper to be a devoted partner and devoted mother, she said, adding, I dont need to be told to be ever present in the hardest of times. I dont need to be told to weather a storm with a good man.
[From People]
This is so sad and so devastating for Sandra. There were photos, over the years, of Sandra and Bryan just doing normal-family things in LA, like going out for some ice cream or taking the kids somewhere. It was a real partnership and more of a marriage, frankly, then that Jesse James bullsh-t. He always sounded like such a solid guy. What an utter tragedy.

Sandra Bullocks latest movie wasThe LostCity, which I really liked and apparently so did others because it pulled in $187.7 million worldwide. Sandra, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, and DaVine Joy Randolph were all great in their roles. Sandra was approached by Paramount to produce and star in the movie andThe Hollywood Reporter wrote a feature on what went into making the movie and its getting past the $100 million mark domestically. A lot of the article is a bit inside baseball, but it also dives into Sandras recent comments that shes going to take a break from acting.
During interviews around the time of SXSW, Bullock revealed she was going to take a break from acting and producing to focus on her two children (she was working back-to-back on The Lost City and The Unforgivable). All told, the Oscar-winning actress has starred in 50 films.
?I don?t want to be beholden to anyone?s schedule other than my own,? Bullock says. ?I?m so burnt out. I?m so tired, and I?m so not capable of making healthy, smart decisions and I know it.? She won?t say how long this break might last. ?I really don?t know.?
Adds Bullock: ?Work has always been steady for me, and I?ve been so lucky. I realized it possibly was becoming my crutch. It was like opening up a fridge all the time and looking for something that was never in the fridge. I said to myself, ?Stop looking for it here because it doesn?t exist here. You already have it; establish it, find it and be OK not having work to validate you.??
Bullock says producing The Lost City with Chasin was a fabulous experience, as was working with Paramount, which allowed her the kind of creative freedom and respect she hasn?t always experienced. ?I love working with artists, and that?s why Liza and I were very well-matched,? Bullock says. ?If I?m going out with a bang, I want to go out with the right person.?
Adds Chasin of their future, ?Sandy and I are going to do something together. It might just be baking cookies. We don?t know what it is yet ? it might be a movie ? but it is going to be great.?
So where does that leave the possibility of a Lost City sequel? Paramount sources say they?d love to find more treasure with Bullock and Chasin.
[From The Hollywood Reporter]
Sandra occupies the position of being both extremely prolific and well-regarded as an actress, so it makes sense that (a) she would be burned out and (b) that if she steps away she will be able to come back when shes ready and pick and choose her projects. Julia Roberts scaling back her acting projects for a while comes to mind as well. After being everywhere from like 1995-2009, Sandra does sometimes take a few years between projects now. It sounds like shes planning to do that again, but for an indefinite amount of time. Her comment about going out with a bang is interesting though. It really makes it sound like Sandra has no new projects planned for the foreseeable future and shes not even thinking generally about when her break might end. If shes tired and has the ability to step away from the thing burning her out, I cant fault her for that. Sandra probably wants to spend more time with her kids and her partner. Sounds like Paramount would love for her break to be short though.

Sandra Bullock gave a quick interview to The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet at The Unforgivable premiere, which theyre just reporting now. She praised Netflix for giving her work and for helping tell stories that werent covered on major networks or American movies before the rise of streaming. She also said that she really didnt expect to be working as a woman at 57. It sounded like she told it in a joking way but that she meant it. That just makes me sad. Heres some of what she said.
Netflix confirmed in recent days that viewers spent enough time with The Unforgivable for it to claim a spot in the top 10 most watched titles in the streamer?s history. But you won?t catch Bullock poring over the data.
?You can?t, you can?t,? she told The Hollywood Reporter of obsessing over its value at The Unforgivable premiere in December. But what she will do is praise Netflix for employing talent of a certain age. ?They?re good to artists. They?re good to filmmakers. If it wasn?t for Netflix, a lot of people wouldn?t be working. Their stories wouldn?t be told. Who would think that me, as a woman, would still be working at this point? I would have been out in the cow pasture. It?s true.?
Jokes aside, the 57-year-old actress-producer continued that hits like Squid Game wouldn?t happen without the power of Netflix. ?That?s one of the bigger ones, but I?ve seen more work from other countries told by other nationalities, and we never would have had that 10 years ago, ever. It brings people together in a way that really, you know, we?re getting more and more divided and yet, we have the streamers that are able to blend our stories together and go, look, same story, just different.?
[From The Hollywood Reporter]
This is Sandra Bullock, an incredibly talented and universally beloved Oscar winner, just assuming shes not going to get work after a certain age and being grateful that Netflix has hired her. Imagine being in an industry gatekeeped by creepy old white men where youre washed up at 40. The more I learn about that Hollywood, the more toxic, sexist and racist it sounds. Things are changing gradually as we have so many more venues for filmmakers and actors, but its not soon enough.
I honestly havent seen The Unforgivable yet as my attention span is shot (see this article), but I saw Sandra on Kimmel a few weeks ago and she was delightful. The Unforgivable does not have a great Rotten Tomatoes rating, but Ive heard good things about it, particularly Sandra and Viola Daviss performances.
The Lost City, with Channing Tatum and Sandra, is coming out on March 25th in theaters. Ill VOD it because it looks awesome. Also, I just googled it and a Bird Box 2 is happening! I will watch that although the original hits different now, you know? We have no idea if Sandra is interested or when it will be released.

Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt and Daniel Radcliffe made a movie together. It sounds random enough, but then the plot is just completely bonkers. I can actually see the start point for The Lost City, formerly called The Lost City of D. They were trying to make a modernized Romancing the Stone. Romancing the Stone is one of my favorite movies, and I?m thankful that this is not any kind of strict remake. The writers just took the essence of RTS to make something involving a romance novelist, the himbo model on the cover of her books, and an eccentric (and dumb??) millionaire. As for Pitt?s character? I guess we?re supposed to buy him as the real hero? But I don?t think his role is very big, so who knows. Here?s the first trailer for The Lost City:
I?ll be pretty annoyed if they made Bullock wear that purple jumpsuit for most of the movie. But yeah, Channing and Sandra?s chemistry looks great. Big surprise, two of the most charismatic actors in Hollywood have chemistry together and perfect timing with one another. I bet they had a total blast making this. Brad?s wig looks very bad, and the plot makes zero sense, but sure. I will definitely watch this.

Its hard for me to get back in the swing of premieres and awards shows again after nearly two years, and I bet its so much worse for the celebrities. You cant really tell when they show up looking as incredible as Sandra Bullock did last night in LA. Sandra was at the premiere of The Unforgivable, her Netflix movie streaming on December 10th and out in limited release now. Its about a woman trying to rebuild her life after shes released following a 20 year sentence for killing a cop.
We just saw Sandra on Kimmel in a fabulous velvet dark purple suit and here she is in a full length silver sequin Stella McCartney jumpsuit. I wish the pants were tailored better but other than that this fits her like a glove. This looks so good with that black suit jacket and the cool matching clutch. Sandy is back!
Jon Bernthal was there, looking like a whole snack in a brown striped suit. I love how hes posing like hes about to throw a punch. I think he plays Sandras characters love interest.
The other top names in this movie are Viola Davis and Vincent DOnofrio and unfortunately neither were there. I would have loved to see Viola and wonder why she didnt make it. Shes probably not in the swing of going to premieres yet and/or is understandably cautious. From what I can find Vincent lives in New York so he may have chosen not to travel. (Hes also in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, where he plays Jerry Falwell, and he went to premieres for that in September and October.)
Aisling Franciosi plays Sandras characters little sister. Im not familiar with her but shes a 28-year-old Irish actress and she was in The Fall and Game of Thrones. This is a pretty dress and looks festive. I like the asymmetric mesh overlay.
What was Anne Heche doing there and why is she so wacky? Shes not in it, I checked.

Sandra Bullock is promoting The Unforgivable, which is out in theaters now and is coming to Netflix on December 10th. Vincent DOnofrio and Viola Davis are also in it! Sandra was on Kimmel and I didn?t realize until I saw her interview how much I missed her. We haven?t seen her since Bird Box, which came out in late 2018, well before we knew how prescient it was. (I havent seen it since but I am assuming it will hit differently now.)
Sandra was so charming and funny on Kimmel. She was wearing a fabulous deep purple velvet suit. She opened by explaining that her daughter Laila, 9, has seen Miss Congeniality but that her son Louis, 11, has not. Louis likes superhero movies and loves Spider-Man like a lot of kids with excellent taste. He even advised his mom not to take a job on a non-Marvel movie and she later realized he was right. Heres some of what she said and the video is below.
On if her kids watch her shows
[Laila] does, Louis does not. I am not his cup of tea. He likes Japanese anime. Hes obsessed with Spider-Man. The whole YouTube fan [stuff].
There was a rumor that you were going to be in the third Spider-Man movie
If that were a rumor that my son had heard do you know how much I could get him to do in the house? Mommy do you need any help?
On if Marvel has approached her
I dont think Im Marvel material. Ive never been approached by Marvel. I was approached for something that wasnt Marvel but my son said not to do it.
Was it a DC universe?
No. It was not in a place that Louis thought I should be. He was right. I saw it when it came out and I went ooh thats unfortunate. He was like six when he asked me not to do it. I forget their ages often it could have been four, seven or eight.
[From Jimmy Kimmel Live on YouTube]
Louis is 11 now, so this movie which was not DC or Marvel was casting around 2015-2016. Power Rangers the movie came out in May, 2017. I feel like a six-year-old would be able to tell their mom that would be crap. Other than that I got nothing. Louis sounds so much like my son! He is also opinionated, has always been bright for his age and loves Spider-Man. Spider-Man is the best superhero.
After that Sandra told a cute story about working at a restaurant and quitting when she was told she had to return a big tip. She also said she loves true crime shows, but only when the killer is already caught and its not a cold case. In The Unforgivable she plays a woman who gets out of prison after serving 20 years for killing a cop. On Kimmel she spoke so eloquently about how the prison system traps people who are desperate and poor. You could tell she empathized with her character. Im really looking forward to The Unforgivable and Im betting she gets some nominations for that. Viola might too!
