Nicole Kidman is currently promoting Prime?s Scarpetta, based on the Kay Scarpetta books by Patricia Cornwell. Currently, I?m debating whether to watch it. Reasons to watch it: I like Nicole and I know she really believes in this, and I like a crime/procedural story. Reasons not to watch it: I don?t really like coroner/medical examiner shows and Jamie Lee Curtis is in it. Let me know! Anyway, Nicole covers the latest issue of Variety and she?s talking Scarpetta, her history at the Oscars, the long-awaited Practical Magic sequel and, oh right, her divorce from Keith Urban. Some highlights:
Every year is the year of Kidman: ?Well, not last year. I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell. Now I?m in a place of saying, ?2026. Here we go.? I have ?Practical Magic? with Sandy. I?ll be in full witch mode.
Wearing John Galliano at the 1997 Oscars: ?Well, it ignited European couture for the carpet. It was never like that before. The clothes were nice, but the idea of combining the couture houses with something as prestigious as the Oscars? That?s just a given now. What comes out of that is those dream images that little girls look at ? or people try to find versions of it for their lives? I remember being nervous because of the color, and then seeing Madonna that night and she said, ?Best dress!? All I could say back was ?You smell so good.? She did. She had the softest skin. You know who else smells so good? Rihanna. Intoxicating. I sat next to her at the Met.?
The Oscar campaign process when she was nominated for Moulin Rouge: ?It was very different then. There wasn?t much to do. It got more and more intense throughout the years. I don?t really remember there being much with ?The Hours.? There were a few Q&As, but it wasn?t a lot. Now it starts in September and finishes in March. If you do Cannes, it starts in May. Like, what? How did that happen??
Winning the Oscar in 2003, right after the US invaded Iraq: ?Well, it wasn?t just the days before the Oscars ? it was throughout that whole period. I remember at the BAFTAs that year, we all wore black. It was a dampened-down ceremony, appropriately so. But there was still an incredible embracing of art and continuing the show in line with the legacy of Hollywood.
On the idea that she won the Oscar for ?uglying up? with a fake nose: ?Whatever. People are always going to say whatever. The performance was there. Ann Roth, Stephen Daldry and David Hare all agreed they wanted Virginia to have a different profile than mine. My profile is very distinct, and it needed to be different. I have a very particular nose. I like when I?m able to change up my appearance, as someone trained to be a character actor. Some people are employed to look and be exactly themselves. I?ve been trained as a character actor, so therefore when I?m working, I?m not here to be Nicole. On a talk show, I am, but not in a film or play or TV show. If that means changing my physical appearance? Of course. You have to walk differently, breathe differently, talk differently. The timbre of your voice has to change. All of the internal mechanisms affect the external.
How she?s doing after her split from Keith: ?I am [doing alright], because I?m always going to be moving toward what?s good. What I?m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That?s that. Everything else I don?t discuss out of respect. I?m staying in a place of, ?We are a family,? and that?s what we?ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.
She gets into an on-screen altercation with JLC in Scarpetta: ?Jamie Lee and I have a physical fight in this show. Sisters go at it. Someone recently told me they could watch us fight until the end of time.?
Why she came back to Practical Magic: ?I love Sandy [Bullock]. I love her. And we?re so different. I?m like [makes a wild noise with her mouth] and she?s so measured and together. We?re like sisters. I have so much protection and love for her. We also have incredible chemistry. We produce differently. She?s incredibly hands-on, and I love delegating. We have different skill sets that become complementary. It?s amazing that we still know each other. Joey King and the new cast are amazing, and Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are coming back.?
She brought in Susanna Bier to direct Practical Magic 2: ?It?s so good to have?found a purpose in terms of that work, being able to shift something culturally?at a time where you just go, ?Well, yeah, I work a lot, and I?m hoping to be able to give female directors and writers far more of a chance through my own showing up and being in the thing.??And then I also produce when I?m not in them. I love working with men too ? like David Gordon Green on ?Scarpetta,? Osgood [Perkins], obviously Baz Luhrmann. Men?s voices are very distinct. They?re able to edit. They?re able to operate a camera. They love shots. They?re cinephiles, and they?re fantastic to work with because we have the same language.

That last part is a bit cringe women directors know how to edit too, Nicole! Women can operate a camera as well! Jeez. I know she was trying to say: I?m not against working with men, I love male directors too. But it came out the wrong way. It also makes sense that she would sign up for Practical Magic 2 simply because she loves Sandy Bullock. I have something disturbing to announce about PM2: Aidan Quinn isn?t in it!! He didn?t return for the sequel! Crazy. But Lee Pace is in it, hot damn. Anyway, I love how Nicole and her fans reacted to her split from Keith. It was basically a shrug, and ?okay, let?s get back to work, let?s keep booking these projects.? Atta girl.

Almost one year ago exactly, Gwen Stefani?s fans became very concerned that Gwen had gone full MAGA. She released a poorly-received album which seemed shockingly vapid and churchy, and she seemingly went all-in with the evangelical Christians, even becoming a spokesperson for a ?prayer app.? In retrospect, I think Stefani simply became ?born-again,? and here in America, we associate that kind of religious fervor with Republicans and political/moral hypocrisy. Meaning, it?s not that she went ?full MAGA,? it?s that she was surrounding herself with those people in the name of religion. Still, walks like a duck, talks like a duck, etc. Anyway, Gwen recently had a conversation on the Hallow app about her Christianity, praying for a third child and feeling more religious since she married Blake Shelton. Some highlights:
Gwen on meeting Blake: During a conversation with Jeff Cavins on the prayer and meditation app Hallow, the 56-year-old singer spoke about feeling like she had never experienced active love before meeting Blake Shelton, a feeling Cavins also referred to as Christs love. I also experienced active love, I think, for the first time when I met my husband because I had never really received active love. And I dont think I knew how to even receive it. Like, it was just like I would be so uncomfortable when someone was sacrificing or actively trying to love me through their actions by maybe sacrificing something.
On her music & her voice: I always thought it would be very arrogant to say, Oh, this is my gift. This is what I?m talented at. This is what I?m good at. But then I remember at a certain point in the last 10 years going, No. God made me to do this. And if I dont do it and share it, thats a sin. I have to keep doing it. Even if its not through being in a church and talking about it, but just through sharing my story through a song ? even if its a silly song, it says bananas in it, and it makes people happy when they go to college ? whatever it is, that?s what I was made for, I guess. Stefani added that she had to learn to accept that God chose me to do that.
Getting pregnant at 43 with son Apollo: ?I really wanted to have another baby. I really did. I couldn?t and I was old and started talking about all these things?it was waking me up.? Part of it was because her oldest son, Kingston, 8, said he ?really wanted [her] to have a baby,? and Gwen believed she was ?too old? to have one. ?He was like, ?Please God, let my mommy have a baby. I just remember thinking, look at my little boy. He?s praying for me!? she recalled. She said he would pray for her to have one every night despite never being told to do so. ?I never taught him that, really. I think it was four weeks later and I was pregnant with Apollo, who I had at 44 years old, naturally, totally a full-on gift. That was the first miracle.?

From what I know about Gwen?s life and family, I?m pretty sure she was raised Catholic. Possibly a ?cafeteria Catholic,? picking and choosing what she needed from the church. But she used to be much more?secular, I guess is the word I?d use. Like, we knew that she went to church but she didn?t really talk about it and she openly had liberal/Democratic views. It feels like she?s just morphed into what she thinks she needs to be as Blake Shelton?s wife. What?s weird about that is I?m pretty sure Blake isn?t super-religious?? Like, yeah, he?s a country singer, but he?s not like THIS whatsoever? It?s so weird. Oh well, I guess this is who she is now.

While an airport is the last place most of us want to be lately, Ive seen some cute casual style on celebrities at the airport and wanted to break down what theyre wearing. First off Alessandra Ambrosio was looking super cute at So Paulo airport in Brazil in a comfy casual Pink tank and sweatpants paired with a versatile jean jacket. I love a good jean jacket for Spring and have about three a cropped light wash jacket for wearing with dresses, an oversize dark wash jacket and a standard medium wash jacket. Jean jackets are classic staples and go with so many outfits. (Those are not my exact jackets, I collected them over the years.)
Alessandra is wearing a Pink Alo Yoga set. She?s in their straight leg sweatpant in candy pink. I can?t find her exact top but their seamless ribbed favorite bra tank is somewhat close. Their cropped accolade crewneck is also very cute.
Alo Yoga is a little pricey for me. You can get a similar look from Garage Clothing for about 40% cheaper. Their ultrafleece boyfriend sweatpants in pop it Pink are cute! They have the sleek scoop cami top and ribbed scoop cami tops in matching colors. I also really like their ultrafleece hoodie. If youre looking for the ultimate in affordability, here are two options. (While we no longer feature Amazon posts, we may occasionally share Amazon links as affordable alternatives.) Also I believe her tote bag is Saint Laurent. Gap has a striped tote bag thats also nice.
Alessandra is said to be wearing the Alo recovery mode sneaker but those look a little different to the ones on their website. As an alternative I like these Reebok women?s club C double revenge sneakers.
Hailey Bieber looked effortlessly chic at the airport in Sydney in this incredible cropped puffy trench by Magda Butrym. This coat is $3,000 and she likely had it sent to her. Luckily Asos has a similar mid length trench for $119. Joes Jeans Liz cropped trench retails for around $350 and Quince has a more traditional looking short trench for $90.
I dont have an ID on Haileys pants but Spanxs easy flare pants look close. White House Black Market has sharp-looking white stretch pants and Lucky Brands mid rise sweet flares are on sale for $29.99 in limited sizes.
Haileys bag is Chanel. Tory Burch has a drawstring tote thats not quite the same but still gorgeous. Heres an affordable black tote.
