Angelina Jolie wore Elie Saab to the Critics Choice Awards: fine or meh?](https://besteyecandy.com/rss_photos/20250209/20250209_TdsfTavalon-0961240357.jpg) Here are some photos from Friday night?s Critics Choice Awards. This will probably be Angelna Jolie?s final appearance during the awards season, unless she?s invited to present at the SAGs or Oscars, I guess. You never know she is a two-time Oscar winner already, so it?s more than possible that the Academy would invite her to be a presenter. Anyway, Angelina did not leave the awards season with a bang. She chose this peachy-beige-tea-rose lace Elie Saab Spring 2025 gown which? eh. I?m mad at the color, I?m mad at her hair these days. But overall, I?m happy that it wasn?t a sack dress and it also feels like she?s been venturing out of her comfort zone here and there. It ended up being an okay night for Jolie that POS Chelsea Handler didn?t even say her name, and Demi Moore went over and hugged Angelina when Demi won Best Actress. It feels like Angelina has made some new friendships during this season.
Michelle Yeoh kind of disappointed me too? She wore this absolutely terrible Balenciaga look. Her hair also looked? not-great. She has great hair too, but it?s too ?flat? and lifeless here.
Lupita Nyongo was one of several women wearing Chanel. I, uh, don?t think Lupita got the best Chanel look, honestly. She?s always beautiful, but this is a minidress with black tulle and it looks like a homemade fashion project.
Margaret Qualley in Chanel she?s been wearing Chanel throughout the awards season, and she has a good Chanel contract. I actually sort of like this? It?s more flowy and romantic than I would normally associate with Chanel.
Jodie Foster in Chanel the dress is super-conservative and very ?Jodie,? but can I just say? I love her hair these days. That choppy bob is killer and I love the subtle grey streaks. Her colorist is doing a great job.

Netflix should absolutely regret putting so much money and effort behind Emilia Perez and not Maria. We could have had Angelina Jolie at every awards show if Netflix had supported her the same way they supported Gascon. But here we are Jolie was snubbed for Bafta, SAG and Oscar nominations. But she has still been receiving awards at film festivals and various events over the past four months or so. Last night, Jolie was in Santa Barbara for the 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival. She received the Maltin Modern Master Award. She walked the carpet and took part in a career-retrospective Q&A session with Leonard Maltin.
Style-wise, Jolie?s look was sort of a meh/mixed bag. I?m so tired of this washed-out blonde color and I?m dying for her to go back to a strong brunette. On the plus side, at least she didn?t have those assy bangs front and center. She wore a silky cream slipdress (with pockets!) and a matching jacket. I?m not wild about it because it feels sack-dress-adjacent, but it?s far from her worst look. British Vogue even said this was Angelina doing the ?quiet luxury? trend.
Meanwhile, this week there were some absolutely bizarre rumors about Angelina and her humanitarian work. The backstory is idiotic and awful Donald Trump has basically shut down USAID (America?s foreign aid) and now Russian and MAGA people are spreading lies about how USAID was handing eight-figure checks to celebrities to ?support? Ukraine. They?re claiming that the American government paid Angelina $40 million to support humanitarian effort in Ukraine or something like that. It didn?t happen, none of it. Angelina has always paid out of pocket to support refugees and do her international work.

![Angelina Jolie & Zahara Jolie wore McQueen to the 2025 Golden Globes Angelina Jolie & Zahara Jolie wore McQueen to the 2025 Golden Globes](https://besteyecandy.com/rss_photos/20250106/20250106_kdfsOcoverimages54414034.jpg) By the end of the Golden Globes red carpet, Angelina Jolie?s social battery was empty and she looked a bit burned out by all of the interviews. Still, I?m proud of her for doing the red carpet like the movie star she is, and doing all of those red carpet interviews. She brought Zahara Jolie as her date to the Globes, just as Zahara was with her in Palm Springs on Friday night. Zahara spent the whole weekend, wearing couture with mom.
Angelina and Zahara both wore McQueen and I?m really happy that they did. This has the feel of Angelina simply going to an atelier she trusts and asking them to make two gowns for her and Zahara, no muss no fuss. The McQueen people did right by her no sack dresses, no goth-girl looks. This silver dress looks so elegant and classy. Whoever did her hair swept back those fakakta bangs too. Zahara?s dress was lovely as well, and she looked like a princess. I think that out of all six kids, Zahara enjoys this the most getting dressed up and going to Hollywood events or premieres.
Unfortunately, Jolie lost Best Actress to Fernanda Torres in I?m Still Here, the Brazilian film which I have not seen (it?s been shortlisted on a lot of ?best films of 2024? lists though). Honestly, I kind of think Jolie?s Oscar campaign surged too early, and it will be a miracle if she actually gets an Oscar nomination. Notably, she was not nominated for a BAFTA and a lot of critics? associations have blanked her. The win, at this point, will be an Oscar nomination.

![Angelina Jolie debuted her new bangs at the Palm Springs film festival Angelina Jolie debuted her new bangs at the Palm Springs film festival](https://besteyecandy.com/rss_photos/20250105/20250105_tpbSqavalon-0951734123.jpg) The Palm Spring International Film Festival began on Friday evening, with a red carpet and an opening ceremony. This festival is scheduled specifically around the Golden Globes, with tons of celebrities already in LA, and happy to spend a day or two in Palm Springs before the Globes. That?s how the festival gets such good turnout every year, and it?s become one of the better ?stops? for Oscar hopefuls. The festival also passes out honors and tributes like candy, which is why Angelina Jolie came out. She was given the Palm Desert Achievement Award for Maria. Angelina brought Zahara, still on a winter break from college, as her date. Angelina also debuted her new bangs in Palm Springs! I love Jolie, but I obviously have a well-documented hatred of bangs. These are far from the worse bangs I?ve ever seen, but they?re still not great. I honestly sort of think Jolie?s hair has looked like sh-t for months. She needs a new colorist AND a new hair stylist. Also: Jolie was presented her award by her godmother, Jacqueline Bisset.
I?m also adding some additional photos from the opening ceremony. So many stars were out and about, but this isn?t comprehensive coverage, these are just the ladies I wanted to talk about it. Nicole Kidman wore Loewe, and I dislike it. Ariana Grande needs to join Angelina in the search for a new colorist, and Ari wore a custom Louis Vuitton bubble-skirted dress. Cynthia Erivo also wore Louis Vuitton. Selena Gomez wore one of my favorite ensembles a three-piece Ralph Lauren suit in a crisp white. Demi Moore also wore a suit (Chanel), which is fine, but the hair bow plucks my nerves. I loved Mikey Madison in Anora, but her awards-season fashion has been very prom-y, and this pale satin Miu Miu dress was all wrong. Her fashion story should be ?ingenue with access to great designers.?

![Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie finalized their divorce after eight-plus years Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie finalized their divorce after eight-plus years](https://besteyecandy.com/rss_photos/20250101/20250101_aiTgNavalon-0532028603.jpg) This past fall was the eight-year anniversary of Angelina Jolie filing for divorce from Brad Pitt just days after he attacked her and their six kids on a private plane. Their divorce was bifurcated in 2019, but they spent the bulk of the past eight years in a dispute over money and custody of their children. It?s been a long road, especially when Angelina went to the California Supreme Court and successfully voided a joint-custody ruling from a compromised private judge. In recent years, the divorce negotiations seemingly stood at a stand-still because Brad has been suing Angelina over the sale of her half of Chateau Miraval, and Angelina?s countersued. Recently, in the winery dispute, Angelina successfully got the court to order Brad to turn over all of his communications with his publicist and crisis management team. Weeks later, the Jolie-Pitt divorce has been settled. Coincidence?
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reached a settlement in their divorce eight years after the Maria star filed to end their two-year marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, signed off on their divorce on Monday, Dec. 30, according to Jolies lawyers.
?More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family, Jolies lawyer James Simon tells PEOPLE in a statement.
This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.
A source close to Jolie adds, She doesn?t speak ill of [Pitt] publicly or privately. She?s been trying hard to be light after a dark time.
[From People]
Again, I love how Angelina?s lawyers are so much more proactive these days with giving statements to the press. She?s needed that for years. TMZ had some additional information Angelina signed off on the divorce on Christmas Day, and the paperwork was filed yesterday. According to TMZ?s sources, Angelina is ?forgoing spousal and family support from Brad.? Which could mean that he?s giving her a lump-sum settlement (I think that seems likely). There?s also not an agreement over custody, but Knox and Vivienne are 16 years old now and most family courts would say they?re old enough to decide which parent they want to live with and see. TMZ also says that Brad and Angelina recently ?exchanged final financial disclosures.? Interesting.

![Angelina Jolie: 'Maria was the beginning of starting to come alive again' Angelina Jolie: 'Maria was the beginning of starting to come alive again'](https://besteyecandy.com/rss_photos/20241227/20241227_fdPICavalon-0902970239-1.jpg) Angelina Jolie finally did a Vanity Fair ?Awards Insider? interview. Every awards-season hopeful does these but she had been avoiding it for some reason. She ended up calling in from Paris, where she?s working on Alice Winocour?s film Stitches. She spoke about working on a French film, and she spoke a lot about Maria Callas and what this journey has been like, promoting Maria for months. VF also got her to talk about the 25th anniversary of Girl, Interrupted too. As a special treat. Some highlights:
Most of her dialogue in ?Stitches? is in French. ?I?m not fluent?I speak a bit, but?to mean every word and give a performance takes a different kind of understanding about what it is I?m saying, to be emotional and not think about the language. It?s a different challenge.?
Why ?Maria? felt like a homecoming for her as an actress & artist: ?I wasn?t myself for a while, so I wasn?t able to give as much to my work for a few years. To feel like I could work again and communicate and to be with nice people?so much of what I do is collaboration with other artists. When it goes well, you?re creating together. When you?re with nice people and creative people, you learn so much about yourself and about life. You?re in a safe place to play and stretch.?
It feels meaningful to be doing this kind of work again: ?It really does. Probably more than I can even express. If no one receives your piece, or if you don?t connect, then it?s like shouting in the dark. It means a lot that people have responded to Maria. I?ve always felt, ever since I was very young, that film has been a way to communicate with the world and not feel as alone. We?re all going through this human condition and this life. So it?s very, very healing to be able to be a part of these films and to talk to you about this and to live that way. And I missed it. I realized I did really miss it. I missed being an artist.
Going dark: ?I went very dark for reasons I?d rather not explain, but I didn?t have a lot of light and life within me. Your light?s dim. I also just needed to be home more, so I couldn?t commit large periods of time to pieces. The choice of what to work on and when was not a creative choice, often, the last few years, but sometimes the practical choice. Really, I think Maria was the beginning of starting to come alive again. I needed a lot of kind people around me to hold my hand. I know I say it too often, but our business can be a lot of things. At the end of the day, we?re very fortunate to do what we do, and we are spending a lot of time with big, deep, emotional feelings. If you don?t do that with people who you?re safe with, it can affect you in very bad ways.
Shooting ?Maria? was a heavy experience: ?It was heavy. Maria was a very full experience. I wasn?t able to leave her on set like you sometimes do. Part of that was because I was always doing training after [shooting] anyway; there was always a next aria. But it was all leading towards the death, and the death was the last thing we shot. I?m almost 50, and my mom had cancer when she was 48. You?re actually thinking about death, about things that cause you grief or that you have lost in your life.
25 years since Girl, Interrupted: ?I remember that I didn?t think of [Lisa] as crazy and that she was a real person. She needed to be loved, and she felt alone, and she wanted truth. I only saw it once?it?s hard for me to talk about it because I saw it once 25 years ago?but from my memory, she wanted someone to be honest with her and to connect, and somehow ended up feeling very, very alone in that way?not dissimilar to Maria. Not finding somebody who understood her enough, not finding a way forward where she was okay. Is this a theme? That I?m alone? What is this? [Laughs] There?s probably some very tragic thing that I don?t want to address right now, but?yeah.

![Angelina Jolie: 'sensitive people feel a lot, and they worry a lot. They also create a lot.' Angelina Jolie: 'sensitive people feel a lot, and they worry a lot. They also create a lot.'](https://besteyecandy.com/rss_photos/20241219/20241219_AYEfiBGUS_3106192_001-1.jpg) Angelina Jolie covers the LA Times? Envelope Magazine (their in-house entertainment mag), all to promote Pablo Larrain?s Maria. The Maria team was included in the profile, and they adore Jolie and she loves them right back. There?s not a lot of new information here Jolie has given herself talking points and she?s been good at adhering to them but I just love how much she?s been hustling this fall and winter. She?s already gotten a Critics Choice and Golden Globe nomination, and she?s picked up several special recognition awards at the Gotham Awards and various film festivals. Some highlights:
Whether she harbors any desires to perform opera on stage: ?My God,? she answers, as if she?d been asked to sample a cup of sour milk. ?That would be my nightmare. That would be terrifying.?
Her kinship with Maria Callas: ?We?re both very emotional women who probably are seen as quite strong but are quite vulnerable, emotional artists who are alone a lot.?
A big swing: ?I admire people that take a big swing, even if they fall. When I see people who are careful ? too careful ? I?m more uncomfortable for them.? But ?if I see somebody being emotionally brave or creatively brave, I root for them. I don?t judge them.?
Callas? line, ?I took liberties all my life, and the world took liberties with me.? Did the actor, herself a constant target of media scrutiny and speculation, feel any connection to Callas in that way? Jolie simply turns the question back at me: ?I think journalists of the world watch this film a little differently. When they see the film, they?re very conscious of maybe how their work affected both of us.?
Jolie does not share Callas? professional angst as an aging woman: ?My motherhood is the only thing that I couldn?t live without. Truly, you could take everything else. I?d be fine.?
She loves telling stories with ?slightly broken? and ?sensitive? people. ?I?ve been one my whole life. Sensitive people feel a lot, and they worry a lot. They also create a lot, and they connect in beautiful ways. One of the most beautiful things about being on a film set is you?re with hundreds of others. You?ve all found each other. You?re all sensitive, you?re all creative, and you?re all a little ? you know, unusual. And not necessarily the most stable.?
[From The LA Times]
?You?ve all found each other. You?re all sensitive, you?re all creative, and you?re all a little ? you know, unusual. And not necessarily the most stable.? There?s that old goth girl. Honestly, Angelina?s instability used to be front and center back in the day, and then motherhood changed her and she became a grown-up. But she still has that sensitive-artist side to her which is ?unusual? and ?not necessarily the most stable.? This feels like a comeback for her in that regard, even though she?s had acting roles in the past decade. This is a comeback for Angelina really pouring herself into a character and playing a role which she relates to so much.

![Angelina Jolie was 'stripped of so many things that make you feel safe & whole' Angelina Jolie was 'stripped of so many things that make you feel safe & whole'](https://besteyecandy.com/rss_photos/20241206/20241206_ltlWdBGUS_3084632_006.jpg) A few weeks ago, Angelina Jolie was spotted at the Met, attending a performance of Puccini?s Tosca with Pablo Larrain. It came during one of several trips she?s made to New York in recent months, almost all of which have been to promote Larrain?s Maria, where Jolie plays Maria Callas. What we didn?t know last month was that a New York Times reporter was along for the ride at the opera, and that it was all for a rather lovely piece about Jolie and about opera. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
Jolie identified with Callas?s isolation. ?Loneliness is not a bad thing. We?re both seen as strong, but actually we?re very vulnerable and human. I don?t think either one of us is necessarily comfortable being public.?
Jolie was worried about her singing voice: For years, she had carried the trauma of a boyfriend telling her she had a bad voice and that she should be grateful she had other talents. ?It was nasty, and it was more than once. Then I stopped singing.? She told Larran that she had ?a lot of emotion and pain that I did not feel like letting go.? She was not very familiar with classical music; she had grown up listening to punk bands like the Clash. And she wasn?t sure she had the technique to sing ? until that point, she had avoided even ?Happy Birthday.?
She sang ?Piangete voi?? at La Scala: The aria was one of the most challenging on the list, but it was also Jolie?s favorite. Dressed in a costume that matched Callas?s, with a white headpiece and navy dress, she sang before a crowd of about 500 people. ?It?s like jumping off a cliff. There was just nothing I could do but try to give everything I had.?
Her mother?s death: Her mother?s death from cancer in 2007, at 56, made Jolie feel she no longer had the luxury of time. ?I don?t want to be comfortable or too relaxed,? she said. ?I want to live fully.?
She?s concerned about revealing too many truths. ?When you are stripped of so many things that make you feel safe and whole, you really sit with what matters to you and what you want to give every breath in your body for. In the end, I found a lot of softness.? She said she hoped that despite all that, Callas was able to ?feel safe to be soft and hopefully eventually rediscover a level of joy.?
Has Jolie found joy again? ?I don?t know about that. But I hope for it. I hope to find a lightness that I may have lost along the way.?
[From The NY Times]
There?s a lot in the Times piece about how Jolie has a rare, genuine elusiveness and not even Pablo Larrain really knows her and they worked together for months. When Jolie walked into the Met, apparently people gasped and began murmuring and trying to take her photo too. The Met let Jolie linger after Tosca she and Pablo met several people working on the opera, and they let Jolie go on stage and examine the set. It?s actually a really lovely portrait, and Jolie?s unwillingness to talk about her personal life just made it even more interesting. I mean, she?s been doing this for a while, she knows how to talk around her eight-year-plus divorce. ?When you are stripped of so many things that make you feel safe and whole? fk Brad Pitt. She?s spent eight years just trying to feel safe and whole again.

She appeared on a late-night talk show for the first time in a decade! Jolie went on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, and she could not have been more nervous. I think her last talk-show appearance was probably The Daily Show in, like, 2013? Jimmy Fallon was really gentle with her last night and he made a point of not even saying Brad Pitt?s name or asking her anything about divorce or exes or any of that. She did talk a little bit about her kids, but emphasized that Shiloh is the one kid who really craves privacy. Here?s the

This was one of the first awards shows of the season, and judging from the A-listers who came out, it seems like there?s going to be a lot of eagerness this year, a lot of people vying for footholds in the Oscar race. I?m including photos of Angelina Jolie and an LV-clad Zendaya, both of whom received special awards for their performances in Maria and Challengers respectively. Other nominees and attendees included: Nicole Kidman, Adrien Brody (with Georgina Chapman), Jessica Chastain, Elle Fanning, Colman Domingo (who won Best Actor for Sing Sing), Pamela Anderson, a Schiaparelli-clad Saoirse Ronan, and Zoe Kravitz.
The Gotham Awards went for gender-neutral categories, and like every awards show which experiments with gender-neutral categories, the cisgender men took home all of the awards. I don?t know what the answer is to ?should gender-neutral categories be the norm,? but in practice, in the real world, whenever they run that experiment, the men always win. It sucks. Anora was supposed to pick up some major awards, but they left empty-handed. A Different Man won best feature, beating out Anora, Babygirl, Challengers and Nickel Boys. Nickel Boys won breakthrough performer (Brandon Wilson) and best director. Sing Sing won two acting awards, for Colman Domingo and Clarence Maclin.
