For years, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has had an extremely lucrative development deal with Amazon Prime, a deal which has yielded next to nothing. One of the reasons why Prime kept pouring money into Waller-Bridge?s coffers (something like $120 million thus far) is because they wanted to eventually get Phoebe to develop a series based on the Lara Croft video game. Lara Croft has been adapted for films notably with Angelina Jolie as Lara, and not so notably with Alicia Vikander in the role and I guess Lara has become the new Spider-Man, in that every generation gets a new one. Well, Waller-Bridge is finally putting it together? with Sophie Turner as Lara.
Sophie Turner is in negotiations to star as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, Prime Video?s high-profile series adaptation of the video game franchise from Emmy-winning Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, sources tell Deadline. A rep for Amazon MGM Studios declined comment.
As we reported exclusively last month, the Game Of Thrones alumna was among the actresses who tested for the high-profile role, previously played on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Tomb Raider, which Amazon MGM Studios Head Jennifer Salke called ?epic? and ?globe-trotting? while announcing the series order in May, has been a passion project for writer/executive producer Waller-Bridge, who spoke fondly of the title character at the time of the pickup.
?Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can?t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ?n all,? she said in May.
Tomb Raider is executive produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson through dj2 Entertainment, Michael Scheel, and rights holders Legendary Television as well as Crystal Dynamics. Greenblatt and Andolina are consulting producers under their Star Party banner. The series is produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.
Turner, an Emmy nominee for her first major role as Sansa Stark on Game Of Thrones, currently headlines the British crime drama limited series Joan and next stars in another British show, Haven, for Prime Video, home of the Tomb Raider series. She is repped by CAA, Independent Talent, and Hansen Jacobson Teller.

This would be the first time Lara Croft, a canonically English character, would be played by an English actress. For that alone, I think it?s an interesting choice. I also think Sophie would do a decent-to-good job, although it remains to be seen if she plans to do the stunt work. I honestly think Sophie would play Lara more like Angelina played her arch, playful, badass. Are the fan-boys freaking out? I don?t have a sense of whether Lara Croft is still one of the characters the younger guys care about?

Earlier this year, 59-year-old Gavin Rossdale went Instagram official with his (then) new girlfriend, an Albanian pop singer named Xhoana Xheneti, whose stage name is simply ?Xhoana X.? The couple?s social media debut showed them celebrating Xhoana?s (pronounced Zo-ha-na) 35th birthday. At the time, everyone made a note of the physical similarities between Xhoana and Gavin?s ex-wife, Gwen Stefani. Both are bleach blondes with high cheekbones and an impeccable eyebrow game.
Since then, Gavin and Xhoana have flown fairly under the radar as a couple. While Gavin still pops up on her Insta page fairly regularly, hes been touring with Bush this year, so most of his social media posts are pictures and videos promoting the band. On Sunday night, however, they made a ?rare? appearance together on the red carpet for the 2024 MTV EMAs (European Music Awards), where Gavin served as a presenter. They even wore matching sheer black outfits.
Gavin Rossdale and his girlfriend, Xhoana Xheneti, made a rare public appearance at the 2024 MTV EMAs. The musicians ? who have been dating since 2023 ? walked the red carpet together in Manchester, England, on Sunday donning all-black ensembles.
Rossdale, 59, rocked a sheer T-shirt, sparkly jeans and sneakers with a white sole, while Xheneti, 35, opted for a scantily clad look comprised of a barely-there cutout dress, leather gloves and platform booties.
While the Bush frontman wore his shaggy dark hair slicked back, the Albanian singer ? who bears an uncanny resemblance to Rossdale?s ex-wife, Gwen Stefani ? wore her bleached tresses down and straight.
She also sported exaggerated makeup featuring a silver smokey eye and a bold red lip.
Rossdale and Xheneti posed for pictures together, taking turns looking lovingly at each other, before they made their way into the event, where the rocker presented an award.
The couple made their relationship public in March ? when Rossdale posted a photo of Xheneti on Instagram in honor of her birthday.
?Hey finally got to have a birthday dinner with my girl @xhoana_x here?s to a year filled with magic for you ,? he captioned a selfie from their celebratory dinner date.
The pair went on to make their red carpet debut at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards the following month. For the outing, Rossdale paired black pants with a matching jacket, which he wore atop a bright yellow T-shirt, while Xheneti dazzled in a light blue wrap-around gown.

Okay, we need to talk about Xhoana?s outfit and overall look of their matching sheer clothing. Something nice: they both look like they?re in great shape. Gavin, who was one of my middle school celeb crushes, doesn?t look a day over 49, and Xhoana?s body is bangin?. If she wants to flaunt it, then have at it. I get that they?re going for that rock ?n roll look, but I?m kinda over the cut-out dresses like this. Is this trend going to end anytime soon? I love a good red lipstick look but I?m not sure how I feel about it as a part of this overall ensemble.
Oh, and for the record, when they went IG official back in March and everyone was pointing out how much Xhoana looked like Gwen, I was under the impression that she looked more like a young Angelina Jolie. After seeing these pictures of Gavin and Xhoana on the red carpet, I maintain that she is definitely embracing more of the Angie resemblance than the Gwen one. Just saying.

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie last night in NYC. She attended yet another industry screening for Pablo Larrain?s Maria, this one for the Directors Guild. I don?t have the IDs on her ensemble, but she?s been wearing similar stuff to these kinds of industry screenings trench coats, black (sack) dresses. She looks tired she?s already been hustling for Maria for months, and Maria?s limited theatrical release isn?t until November 27 (it comes on Netflix on December 11).
Meanwhile, there?s been a well-publicized update on Angelina and Brad Pitt?s years-long legal battle over Chateau Miraval. He?s suing her because he claims they had a secret agreement that she would only sell her half of Miraval to him. She?s countersuing him because he?s a liar and an emotional, physical and financial abuser. Angelina has been fighting for at least two years to get Brad?s lawsuit thrown out. Well, a judge just threw out Angelina?s demurrers, meaning Angelina?s motions to dismiss were not granted.
Brad Pitt just secured an important win in his ongoing legal battle with ex-wife Angelina Jolie over the French winery Chteau Miraval. It feels like we haven?t heard much about Brad Pitt in a month or two. He did a big blitz of promotion in September for Wolfs, which was shoved onto AppleTV streaming and promptly forgotten. Which was hilarious, because Wolfs was supposed to be a big comeback film for both Brad and George Clooney, and the studio was so nervous about it bombing, they didn?t even give it a wide release. Around the promotion, Brad?s relationship with Ines de Ramon was suddenly much more visible. She went to Venice with him and they walked the carpet together. Then they went to New York and LA, where they were papped a lot over the course of several weeks. Then nothing. Well, now that Angelina Jolie?s Maria promotion is ramping up that?s as good a reason as anything??? Brad is screaming ?don?t forget about meeeeee? to People Mag. Here?s the update on his relationship with Ines:
Brad Pitt and Ines de Ramon remain incredibly happy in their relationship. A source close to the actor tells PEOPLE the couple are ?each others biggest cheerleaders.? The source adds of the Academy Award winner, 60, and de Ramon, 34, ?Its clear theyre in it for the long haul.?
They are incredibly happy together, the source says of the couple, who have been dating since 2022. In February, the actor and Anita Ko jewelry designer moved in together.
And as Pitt continues to film the Formula 1 film F1 in Mexico, they have found a dynamic that works for them. ?Shes fully supportive and knows how important this project is to him, the source says.

Angelina Jolie was out in LA this week, attending yet another screening/premiere for Pablo Larrain?s Maria at the Writers Guild Theater. The paparazzi swarm was so intense, Jolie looked like she barely got into the theater, and she was traveling with her bodyguards too. As you can see in these photos, Angelina wore a bronze-y Armani dress and a black double-breasted coat. Meanwhile, Maria hasn?t even had a theatrical release and Angelina keeps picking up special-recognition awards. It?s the perfect storm for her one of the last movie stars of that generation, in a comeback role which is getting widespread acclaim. She?s already been honored at the Toronto Film Festival, and the Santa Barbara Film Festival announced plans to give her an award in the new year. Now the Gotham Awards are giving her something special:

The event will take place Dec. 2 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The Gotham Film & Media Institute said the Oscar winner will be honored for performance as the legendary, but troubled, opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larrain?s upcoming film Maria.
?Like the legendary figure she portrays, Angelina Jolie transcends mere performance to craft something extraordinary. Her interpretation captures both Maria Callas? complexity as an artist and the cultural resonance that defines an icon,? The Gotham executive director Jeffrey Sharp said in a statement.

I love it, honestly. Every other year, I?m like ?there are too many awards shows, the awards are less special, it?s too much noise.? But this year, I?m like: give Angelina all of the awards, please. I know that this is Gotham?s way of confirming Angelina?s attendance, ditto for Santa Barbara and Toronto. But it?s still nice! Chances are, the big ?win? will be if Angelina gets an Oscar nomination, not the Best Actress Oscar itself. So I?m fine with her racking up the special awards at festivals and critics? award shows.
What else? Angelina was asked if she would ever consider doing a Broadway musical now that she?s sung opera in a movie. She replied: ?I would love to, but I?d be very shy. But if you asked me if I would be singing opera a year ago, I probably would have said no. I started with Strasberg and I started in theater so of course I would love to. But deep deep down, I probably don?t think I?m good enough.? I don?t think she should do a stage musical, but I absolutely think she could do a play on Broadway. I still believe we?ll see her move full-time to New York when Vivienne and Knox go to college. Speaking of, Jolie was also asked if her kids will follow her into acting, and she said: ?No, I think theyre especially shy, very private people?and they want to be private.

This diva!! Angelina Jolie stepped out on Saturday night at the AFI Fest premiere of Maria. Jolie heard all of you begging Nicole Kidman to bring back her curly hair and Jolie said ?I?m going to hit ?em up with some vintage Kidman.? The curly hair looks amazing on her I have no idea if Angelina has naturally curly or wavy hair but I don?t think she does? Meaning, she had to put her curlers in or something. She looks younger with curly hair as well. And ever since she got that Tom Ford Beauty contract, she?s been wearing the fk out of the red lipstick.
I don?t have much to say about Angelina?s fashion though. I mean? she?s not a fashionista, which is funny because she founded an atelier. She wore a beige silk dress which is too neutral, and she threw a sack-like shawled jacket over it. I get it the look is all about her face, but I wish she was making different style choices for this promotional tour.
Netflix released the full-length trailer for Maria a few days ago, so I?m including it again below. I have such high hopes for this movie! I?m also including an interview Jolie did at AFI Fest.

For months now, the British tabloids have been trying to make one particular story happen. That story? ?Angelina Jolie is dating British rapper Akala.? Nevermind that Akala seems to have a long-term partner, Chanelle Newman, who is also in business with Akala. Nevermind that Angelina seems to be friends with both Akala and Chanelle. Akala has stepped out to support Angelina frequently in recent months he went to Venice when she was there to premiere Maria. He?s also come out to support Angelina in LA and other cities, and he went to the BFI London premiere of Maria late last week too. Well, because Akala walked the carpet at the London film festival and because his friendship with Jolie is well established, now the tabloids claim that Jolie and Akala spent two nights together in London.
Angelina Jolie?s rumored romance with British rapper Akala is reportedly heating up. The ?Maleficent? star, 49, reportedly snuck the 40-year-old musician up to her hotel suite at The Corinthia in London last week, sources told the US Sun Monday.
?The pair spent Wednesday and Thursday night together inside the hotel and did not leave,? the insider shared, explaining Akala joined the actress two hours after she arrived. ?Akala was snuck out of the hotel via one of Angelina?s cars on Friday ? a couple of hours before the [British Film Institute] premiere for her new movie,? the source added, referring to Jolie?s forthcoming movie, ?Maria,? which was showed at the London Film Festival.
?They are using separate cars and secret entrances to keep their relationship under wraps, but it?s the real deal,? the insider continued.
The ?Eternals? star and Akala both attended the film festival, though they were photographed arriving separately. After the premiere, they cozied up for a romantic dinner at the exclusive Soho House, per the outlet. Reps for Jolie weren?t immediately available to Page Six for comment.
The ?Girl, Interrupted? star and Akala have been romantically linked since May 2024 when the latter attended the Calabash Literary Festival in Jamaica alongside Jolie and her daughters Zahara, 19, and Shiloh, 18. The singer, most recently, accompanied the ?Mr. & Mrs. Smith? star to a party at her Atelier Jolie art room in New York City on Sept. 28. That same week, Akala also tagged along to the premiere of ?Maria? at the New York Film Festival hosted at Alice Lincoln Center?s Tully Hall. While InTouch reported that the duo had been seeing each other for at least a year, a source told People in August that they are not dating.

Yeah, I have no idea. For months, I?ve believed that the tabloids were making mountains out of molehills, not to mention being disrespectful towards Chanelle. But who knows. Given the way Akala has been showing up for Jolie for months now, it does feel like more than a friendship. I?ll also say that given the way Akala has been showing up for Jolie, it feels like his situation with Chanelle might be different than ?they?re together/they?re partners.? Like, if your boyfriend/partner is flying all over the place to support Angelina Jolie, that?s probably a red flag? I really don?t know.
Update: People Mag has a new story emphasizing that Angelina & Akala are just good friends. This whole thing is so strange.

Angelina Jolie stepped out on Friday at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of Pablo Larrain?s Maria. Pablo was there too, and they looked like they were about to do an artsy remake of Ocean?s Eleven. I?ve been trying to keep track of how many festivals Angelina has attended this year so far: Venice, Telluride, Toronto, New York, now London and soon the AFI Fest in LA. All of this is ahead of the December release date a limited theatrical run and a big premiere on Netflix. Fingers crossed that Netflix puts some money in this Oscar campaign.
As for Angelina?s look in London? it?s interesting because she eschewed the sack dresses she?s favored in recent years, and she went for a much more old-school look. Back in her 20s, Angelina rarely wore dresses. She was all about leather pants and menswear. In London, she wore a three-piece tuxedo suit from Dolce & Gabbana?s menswear collection. Maybe she?s doing this with some kind of agenda, but my first thought was ?of course she?s wearing menswear, all of the women?s suits these days are absurd.? Women?s suits have giant shoulder pads or puffed out shoulders or too-long sleeved or weird darting or terrible collars. Jolie was like? no thanks, I want a normal suit jacket. I like this look from the hips up the pants are not great. But I like the boots.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival always encourages would-be Oscar-campaigners to make the trek to shill their movies by the beach every awards season, usually in late January or early February. It will be the same next year, and Santa Barbara really wants Angelina to come out. So they?re giving her an award the Maltin Modern Master Award, named after film critic Leonard Maltin. Maltin told Variety: ?Angelina Jolie makes bold choices, both as an actress and as a director. She sets the bar high in both disciplines and always comes through. I look forward to reviewing her career with her in Santa Barbara!? That should be really nice.

Here are photos of Angelina Jolie at the New York Film Festival premiere of Maria, the Pablo Larrain film where she plays Maria Callas. Angelina arrived with her three oldest kids (all of them adults): Maddox, Zahara and Pax. It?s great to see Pax out and about he recently crashed his motorbike in LA traffic and was hospitalized for several days with ?complex trauma.? It looks like there are faint scars on his face, and his wrist is still in a brace. Zahara must have flown up to New York from Spelman College in Atlanta. I don?t know if Maddox has finished college yet. I love that they all came out to support their mom. As a survivor of the Brangeloonie Wars, I remember so many anti-Jolie people predicting that her kids would grow up to hate her. Looks like the kids have grown up to be well-adjusted and thoughtful, and they adore their mom.
I don?t see an ID on Angelina Jolie?s dress it looks vintage-y to me, but it might be something custom-made from Atelier Jolie, you never know. People are saying that Zahara is wearing one of Angelina?s old dresses, which is possible. Zahara and Shiloh have both done the same thing for other red carpets. I think those are Angelina?s two fashionista daughters, while Vivienne is all about normcore and little-old-lady dressing. Maddox and Pax were both suited up and both of them looked really nice. After the premiere, I think Angelina hosted a party at Atelier Jolie. She did the same after the Tonys too.
Last week, Angelina reportedly ?dropped? her FOIA request into the FBI records of the 2016 plane incident. As many of you pointed out in yesterday?s comments, it?s more than likely that Angelina ?dropped? the request because she got what she needed from the FBI, and/or she got enough documentation to use in her divorce case AND her countersuit against Brad over Miraval.

In April 2022, Politico and TMZ reported that Angelina Jolie had filed (as a Jane Doe) for the FBI?s records on their investigation into the 2016 plane incident. The 2016 incident was the game-changer for Angelina. That was where a likely blackout-drunk Brad Pitt terrorized and assaulted Angelina and their children for hours on and off the plane. In 2022, Angelina was technically getting a Freedom of Information Act request, but really, she was trying to piece together what exactly happened with the FBI investigation and why the FBI didn?t file any charges against Pitt. Angelina did manage to get her hands on some of the partially-redacted records, including the FBI?s records of Jolie?s own statements to them about what Brad did to her and the children. Many of those records were then FOIA-requested by media outlets who then published their own coverage, much to Team Pitt?s chagrin. Well, long story short, after two years of trying to figure out why the FBI didn?t charge Pitt with any crime, Jolie is now dropping it.
Angelina Jolie is ending her legal battle against the Department of Justice and FBI over documents connected to the alleged 2016 plane incident involving her then-husband Brad Pitt.
Under the anonymous Jane Doe,? Jolie, 49, had requested in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in 2021 that FBI documents about the incident be released to her. Court documents obtained by PEOPLE indicate the Maria star dropped the case on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
The highly redacted documents Jolie had been pursuing detailed an allegedly drunken altercation on Sept. 14, 2016, between Pitt, 60, and his then-wife ? which came days before Jolie filed for divorce, ending a relationship that began in 2005.
Their children were reportedly present for the alleged conflict on a private plane that had caused the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services and FBI to investigate Pitt. A source said at the time that Pitt became verbally abusive and physical with one of their kids, which he denied. Later in 2016, the FBI closed its investigation with no charges against Pitt and DCFS also concluded its investigation, concluding no findings of abuse.
Amid the ongoing legal battle over their French vineyard Chteau Miraval and wine company, Jolie responded to a 2022 lawsuit from her ex with details of the alleged incident, including that Pitt had choked one of the children and struck another in the face. A source close to Pitt told PEOPLE at the time, Its incredibly sad that she continues to rehash, revise and reimagine her description of an event that happened 6 years ago, adding in completely untrue information.?

I don?t know why she dropped this, other than she was tired of being stonewalled by the FBI and she likely achieved some of her goals anyway. It?s also worth noting that back in 2022, Jolie/Jane Doe?s lawyer told Politico that Jolie had been trying to get the FBI records for years without having to file a FOIA action, and the FBI stonewalled her that entire time too. It feels like Angelina has her suspicions that something went down between the FBI and Pitt and both parties are doing the most to cover it up.
