For years now, whenever the Duchess of Sussex is in the news and the British media is being insanely nasty to her, there?s usually some weird counterprogramming coming out of Kensington Palace about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Like, 9 out of 10 headlines are ?Meghan eats kittens for breakfast, Piers Morgan reacts? and then the tenth headline will be ?Duchess Kate loves the color pink!? So it is at the moment. With everything going down with the Sussexes right now, *someone* wants to remind us that we?ll soon be celebrating a decade of Duchess Kate. The Cambridges? ten-year wedding anniversary is coming up in April and so gird yourself for these sugary, vague fking articles about how Kate has only recently grown in confidence, or started picking out her own clothes, or wiping her own ass, or finally achieved the much-promised keenness. Here?s the current story: Kate has grown in confidence as a fashionista in the past three years. Weird timeline, tell me more.
As Kate Middleton gets ready to celebrate 10 years as a member of the royal family, one author explains why the Duchess of Cambridge is making style headlines now more than ever before.
I think she has become a lot more confident, Bethan Holt, author of The Duchess of Cambridge: A Decade of Modern Royal Style, says in the first issue of PEOPLE Royals. She started off quite tentatively finding her way and very conscious of her place in the family and I think as she has taken on more responsibility, you really see that in her clothing.
According to Holt, who also writes for the U.Ks Daily Telegraph, Kates clothing budget may have increased over the years but her overall style has simply gone up a notch. Shes always been very ladylike, elegant and put-together, but she has really polished up her appearance over the last three years.
It was after having Prince Louis in 2018 that Holt says Kate really started to take small but noticeable style risks. Arriving at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to open a new photography center in October 2018, Kate wore a striking look by the British-based designer Erdem. Her checked midi-length boucle tweed dress had a slight off-the-shoulder neckline and featured crystal and pearl buttons. With her signature bouncy blowout, she accessorized the chic look with a cluster of sparkly brooches and sky-high red velvet heels.
Earlier that year, there had been subtle signs that Kate was on a style mission. At Louis christening in July, she wore an oversized embellished hatband by the British milliner Jane Taylor that sparked the beginnings of a millinery trend. It was on the Prada catwalk a few months later, says Holt, adding that while the padded hatband was divisive at first, it became her signature and much-copied look. Shes worn velvet ones, Zara ones ? shes really made it her own.
In the coming months, Kate continued to debut a new, more fashion-forward, polished look, wearing trousers (a first!) on numerous occasions, favoring up-and-coming designers and choosing bold pieces from luxe labels. Visiting a childrens center in Lambeth, London, in March 2019, she wore a vibrant lilac pussy-bow Gucci blouse, teamed with black wide-legged trousers and a matching lilac top handle bag from Aspinal London, a professional but glamorous look not seen before.
Over the years, Kate has often adopting a high-low approach to royal dressing. On an official visit to Ireland with Prince William last year, she wowed in a luxe sequin cocktail dress from The Vampires Wife and the following day wore a white Reiss coat, that she had kept in her closet for over 13 years.
That was a real stroke of genius, says Holt, who says the secret to Kates sartorial success is to look appropriately regal but never above her position. The Reiss coat was a reminder of the girl that she once was, before she had all these responsibilities and it was a really good example that clothes arent just clothes, they are telling a story.

Again, ?she has really polished up her appearance over the last three years.? Nary a mention of the fashionable American who married Kate?s brother-in-law, the same person whose style Kate visibly began to copy and Single White Female. Meghan carried a cute handle-top bag and suddenly Kate had one too. Meghan wore trousers for her first outings and suddenly Kate wore them too. Meghan wears separates and suddenly Kate ditches the dowdy Victorian coatdresses and discovers separates as well. And on and on. It?s not really the case that Kate suddenly grew in confidence overnight either it?s that Meghan?s entrance on the scene changed the media landscape overnight. Suddenly every British paper was praising Kate to high heaven as the good duchess, the white duchess, the duchess who gets coddled and infantilized and never puts a foot wrong.

The conservatives would have us believe that ?cancel culture? is truly the biggest issue facing the country today. It is not and they?re stupid and they should be cancelled. One of the best things about the whole ?cancel culture? conversation is that A) most of it is just aholes complaining about how they?re being held accountable for being terrible and B) the lack of conversation around Shame Culture. Sometimes, a good public shaming actually *works*. Someone fks up and you publicly shame them for a day and everybody learns something. So it is with Kylie Jenner, who recently got some well-deserved sh-t for only donating $5,000 to a friend?s GoFundMe page for his medical treatment. Kylie was mad that people were calling her cheap. Kylie issued a statement explaining why she gave so little. And now she learned her lesson, the lesson of the noblesse oblige: rich people need to be seen giving big chunks of money to charity. So here we are!
Kylie Jenner gave $500,000 to create a state-of-the-art hospital lounge for teen cancer patients that was unveiled on Wednesday. The reality star and makeup mogul donated the funds to support her friend, singer-songwriter Harry Hudson ? who was diagnosed with Hodgkin?s lymphoma in 2017.
The donation ? with money from rockers Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend?s Teen Cancer America ? led to the ?Hey, I?m Here For You Teen Lounge? at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children?s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville. The lounge is named after Hudson?s cancer charity, as well as the title of his 2020 album.
A source told us, ?When Harry was diagnosed with Hodgkin?s lymphoma in 2017, one of the things that really struck him and his best friend Kylie, who sat with Harry through his chemo treatments, was that there was a great need to give more emotional support to teenagers and keep them hopeful and inspired during the process. One of the things that Kylie and Harry found to be equally important as the science was the ability to treat the patient, specifically the teenage demographic, in a space that reflected positivity and healing.?
The lounge includes video games, a big screen TV with streaming capabilities, a meditation room, and more. Hudson said in a statement: ?I am so grateful for Kylie?s friendship and the impact she?s had on my life and my cancer journey? She has always been there for me, and together, we wanted to figure out a way to be there for other young people who are battling this disease.?
Jenner, the CEO of Kylie Cosmetics, is worth a reported $900 million. Last year, she donated $1 million to one of her physicians, Dr. Thas Aliabadi, to ?help us buy hundreds of thousands of masks, face shields, and other protective gear? during the pandemic, the doc said.

It?s nice that she did this, and she clearly donated the money long before her recent shaming. But she definitely wanted credit for it, and that?s fine. She deserves credit good for you, Kylie. This was a nice thing to do and sick kids will have a really nice space to recuperate and hang out. Her publicist was like, ?Oh mention that Kylie donated a million dollars last year too!!?
