The February ‘09 issue of Nuts Magazine features a list of Britain’s 50 Sexiest Single Babes and topping the list is Gemma Atkinson, who the magazine dubbed “Britain’s Sexiest Single 2009?. I’m not sure which criteria they used to sort their list, but considering the fact that Gemma’s biggest screen credit was “Hollyoaks” from three or four years ago, I’m guessing the state of contenders’ CVs had nothing to do with it. I would imagine the focus was primarily on other… uhh, assets.

Last week, Angelina visited a refugee camp on the Burmese-Thailand border. The camp was full of Burmese refugees that had been living there for years without any official status in either Burma/Myanmar or Thailand. During her official UNHCR visit, Jolie made comments about her desire (and the official desire of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees) to see the refugees granted permanent status within Thailand.
During her visit, Jolie also made a brief statement about the ?boat people?, the Rohinyga refugees who are literally refugees stuck on a boat, unable by either Burma or Thailand to come to shore. Jolie said she hoped that Thailand would respect the Rohinyga?s human rights, and that the situation could be resolved. This was a very political statement, and it pissed off a Thai official enough to mouth off about Angelina and the UNHCR.
A senior Thai diplomat rebuked Hollywood star Angelina Jolie on Wednesday for speaking out on behalf of Muslim refugees from Myanmar.
Jolie ? who is deeply involved in the plight of refugees in her capacity as a United Nations goodwill ambassador ? called on the Thai government to respect the human rights of Myanmar’s Rohinyga “boat people” last week while touring a camp in northern Thailand for other refugees from the military-ruled nation.
The Rohingya, who are denied citizenship in their native land, have been trying to land in Thailand after treacherous sea journeys in recent months only to be towed back to sea and cast adrift by the Thai Navy.
Virasakdi Futrakul, permanent secretary of Thailand’s foreign ministry, said Jolie’s mission last week was to inspect a camp that houses refugees mostly from Myanmar’s ethnic Karenni minority not deal with the Rohinyga.
“We probably have to warn UNHCR that they should not have comment on this because it was not the purpose of her visit,” he said.
UNHCR spokeswoman Kitt McKinsey declined to comment on Virasakdi’s remark.
“She was extremely touched by the plight of the Rohingya people. She expressed the hope that the human rights of the Rohingya people will be respected just as the human rights of everyone in the world should be respected,” McKinsey said last week.

The Foreign Ministry’s permanent secretary Virasak Futrakul yesterday told US actress Angelina Jolie to mind her own business and demanded an explanation from the UN agency for refugees why it brought her to a refugee camp here in the first place. The Interior Ministry supervises refugee camps along the Thai-Burmese border and the UN refugee agency has stepped out of line by taking the Hollywood star there, Virasak said. He also reminded the UN High Commissioner for Refugees that the UN has no mandate in these camps and therefore should not be saying anything. The agency said that Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt visited the camp on the Thai-Burmese border after receiving permission from the Interior Ministry.
So much for the diplomatic jargon and necessities, but excuse us for reminding the world that the international community has a major problem on its hand. It concerns the Rohingyas, a stateless people who reside in Burma’s Rakhine State bordering Bangladesh.
But while no one can fully control the words and actions of Hollywood celebrities, the fact of the matter is, when they speak, just about everybody listens.
Thailand’s claim of sovereignty over this matter is understandable given the fact that the country is not a signatory to any refugee convention. But hiding behind diplomatic protocol doesn’t hold water, especially when the country is in a public relations mess following reports that our security forces have pushed hundreds of Rohingya boat people back out to sea. Some have been left unaccounted for while others have given heartbreaking accounts of mistreatment by the Thai military, which towed them back out to sea in ill-equipped boats with little food and water. Another blow to Thailand’s image is the fact that the Indian navy, which has rescued Rohingyas, repeated their stories to the world.
We don’t need to dance to Jolie’s tune just because she is a Hollywood superstar. What we need to do is come up with a sound policy that is based on legal and humanitarian principles. Instead of blaming Jolie, who has the luxury of walking away from this after a few days of photo ops, why don’t we start talking about the root cause of the problem? Or is that against the unwritten rules of Asia when it comes to “domestic matters” in a neighbouring member country?
This particular problem is caused by the Burmese junta - a source of headaches and heartache for Thailand, all Asian members and the international community.

I can?t believe I?m agreeing with an editorial in The Nation. I?m a New Republic girl! I really think the crux of this story is that Angelina spoke out on an issue that was particularly embarrassing for the Thai government. However, Jolie took all of the appropriate routes to visit the refugee camp (as she always does). I really think the UNHCR was using her for her star-status to make a political point, and that?s why the UNHCR spokewoman is standing up for Jolie now. Most likely, Jolie was asked by someone within the UNHCR to make a public statement on the Rohingya travesty to jump-start an international debate on these particular human rights.

As Celebitchy covered last week, Jennifer Aniston gave a recent interview to Marie Claire saying that she still keeps tapes and mementos of old boyfriends and her ex-husband, Brad Pitt. Her exact quote was, ?I still have the cassette tapes of messages from my first boyfriend, my second boyfriend, my husband? it?s like saving love letters.? Many commenters pointed out that she didn?t refer to her ?boyfriends? as exes, so what was the big deal with calling Brad her husband? Meh on all of that, because why was she even talking about Brad in the first place? Let it go, Aniston.
Now Star has the story and they?re making it really, really tabloid, of course. They even have a couple of sources who call Jen?s actions ?creepy? and ?lonely?. Yikes. I?m not buying into Jen?s pity party, but I do think Star over-plays their hand. “She’s spent many lonely nights going through old keepsakes,” an insider tells Star.
Among her favorite messages is one from when she and Brad first started dating, says a source. Jen still gets butterflies when she hears Brad whispering passionately, “I love you, Ms. Aniston.” And, “I can’t wait to get my hands on you, Golden.” That was his pet name for her, the pal explains, and she called him “Baby.” Another came after a spicy evening, Brad left this morning-after message: “You’re the perfect lover!”

Although there were rumors that Gwenyth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin would walk the red carpet hand-in-hand at this year’s Grammys (something she claimed she would never do), Chris was decidedly alone in front of the cameras. Well, Gwyn has revealed one of the reasons she refuses to do press with her husband: it’s “cheesy.”
So, why don?t Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow and Grammy winner Chris Martin of the group Coldplay take pictures together or walk down red carpets as a couple?
?It?s cheesy,? Gwyneth laughed when we talked about this big controversy backstage at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. When we ran into each other she?d just come off stage wearing a hot silver lame mini skirt. But she was also not with Martin, who was busy with Coldplay winning a Best Song Grammy for ?Viva La Vida.?

Gwyneth and Chris have the potential to be a huge power couple. What she doesn’t seem to understand is that they could have a public relationship without it turning into another Brangelina lovefest: think of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, or Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. Both of these couples are public with their affections, but don’t let the press get out of control.
I do understand where she’s coming from. Some couples are all over each other and no one wants to see that. But it’s possible to keep their relationship low-key without making Gwyneth look frigid. Where are her PR people?
Holding hands is “cheesy”? I would think she would want to share her time in the spotlight with the person she loves. Maybe she’s just too GOOPy for that.

Fergie and Josh Duhamel were married about a month ago. People were hoping that would be the end of that and Fergie would live a quiet life outside of anyone’s line of sight. Possibly in a cave somewhere with the rest of her mountain people. Alas, that was not to be. Us detailed their wedding and have a few photos of her wedding.
They also have black and whites of Fergie making out with Josh on a bed. These may seem lovey dovey at first, but realize that Josh is paralyzed from the neck down and the drugs are far from wearing off. Muahahahaha!

I know you guys can’t go 5 minutes without a Chris Brown / Rihanna update so here you go. Current reports indicate Rihanna is cooperating with police after the DA told them to gather more evidence.
According to a source, the two were driving through the Hancock Park neighborhood when they got into an argument. Chris pulled his Lamborghini over and that’s when Rihanna took the keys and threw it out the window.
An already pissed off Brown went to find it. When he came back, he started to choke Rihanna and said, “I’m going to kill you.” She lost consciousness soon after, but when she came to, Chris was gone.
According to the source, her right eye was blackened and badly swollen and she had hand prints on her arms. The responding officers were so concerned about her, they drove Rihanna to the hospital in their squad car instead of waiting for an ambulance.
Officers took two sets of photographs of the banged-up singer, one at the scene and the second after she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment. Those photos were presumably among the evidence presented to the district attorney.
Wow. Jeffrey Dahmer would even call Chris Brown a monster. The only way this could get any worse is if Rihanna was pregnant at the time and now she’s not. And if after choking out Rihanna, Chris went to the zoo and killed a panda bear. In front of its panda babies.

The fight between Rihanna and Chris Brown erupted after Brown received a text message from another woman wanting a booty call. Sources tell NYDN,
“He got a booty call. He got a text. Rihanna saw it and she got upset. They started to argue. She got out of the car. He wanted her to get back in, so he grabbed her,” the industry source said. “She pulled away. That’s when she’s told people he hit her.”
Meanwhile, Rihanna has refused to communicate with Chris Brown.
“Chris has been trying to contact her. So far she hasn’t taken his call,” the music business source said. “Her family is on their way to be with her. She has some close girlfriend looking after her.”
LAPD has already presented a case to the DA, but the DA sent it back telling them to make their case more solid. A legal expert believes that the DA wants more “witness work” as victims often refuse to testify before trial.
Chris Brown is so screwed. Maybe he can make something up. Like tell police a bear did it. Yea, a bear. With human fists. I think he went that way.

Joaquin Phoenix and his brother in law, Casey Affleck, were spotted at the airport in LA yesterday. It is thought that they’re still working on a documentary together that will detail Joaquin’s transition into a rap career, something he says he’s serious about despite public skepticism and a general lack of ability. Joaquin has built a home recording studio to help him realize his dream, and says he’s not about to go back to acting for a living:
Hollywood star Joaquin Phoenix is so serious about pursuing a career as a rapper that he has had a high-tech recording studio installed in his house.
The Oscar-winner shocked fans last year when he announced his plans to step away from the cameras and pick up a microphone.
Director James Gray, who worked with Phoenix on his latest film, “Two Lovers,” insists Phoenix is doing everything possible to ensure he gets the best shot at his new music career, and has been laying down tracks in the comfort of his own home studio.
Gray tells the Associated Press, “If he’s not serious about it, then he really went to ridiculous lengths.”
Phoenix admits he has no desire to return to the big screen anytime soon, because he wants to focus on his new musical direction.
He reveals, “I’m not one of those people, like, when I break up with my girlfriend, I don’t ever see her again. I see her as friends, but do I ever think about getting back together? No, when I do something, I do it. So I have no intention (to return to acting).”

Phoenix is also quoted as explaining why he so rapidly changed his appearance from an attractive Hollywood star to a disheveled, unshaven guy with bed head. He said he wanted to step away from fame as quickly as possible and his unkempt appearance has helped him cut ties with the past:
“People have called me a sex symbol in the past, but it’s very much an effort,” Phoenix tells Britain’s The Sun.
The Oscar nominated actor went on to say, “It’s been important for me to just do something that’s extreme - that really separates me from that public Joaquin Phoenix persona, whatever the f— that is.”

Pheonix’s last film Two Lovers is getting mixed reviews and is being trashed by some critics. Maybe his dissatisfaction with the film was part of his motivation for leaving a lucrative acting career. Whatever happened, he seems to be completely serious about the change. He’s lucky that Casey is hanging around and helping him out or else we’d be even more worried about what’s going on with him. I’m really interested in seeing this film they’re making and if Casey is half as talented a filmmaker as his brother, Ben, it could be a very good documentary.

Not all of the girls swoon at Mayer. Many of us roll our eyes, including Aniston’s friends. The tabloids have a story this week about a date Mayer was spotted on with an unknown blond woman on January 28. We covered this a couple of weeks ago. Both In Touch and The National Enquirer say that Mayer was on a “business date.” The Enquirer claims that Aniston is furious because he didn’t tell her about the date ahead of time and she had to find out from other people about it. According to In Touch, Aniston is still seeing Mayer but isn’t taking him as seriously. She is also said to be annoyed with the way he constantly promotes himself:
Jen doesn’t always have the best judgement [sic] - but she’s been more cautious with John, 31, because of her history. “She tried not to let her experiences in past relationships affect her,” a pal says, “but she’s always worried John would embarrass her in some way.”

This guy is not going to change and will keep trying to rope Aniston back in with little tricks like this, leaked to the press to make sure he gets the maximum mileage out of a relationship he only takes seriously when he’s faced with losing it. The more details that come out in the Chris Brown and Rihanna saga, the worse Brown looks. E! Online has supposed insider details of the investigation. According to their source, not only did Chris Brown threaten to kill Rihanna according to what she told to police, but he strangled her so hard so lost consciousness. He then took off and left her there. Cops that responded to the scene were so worried about Rihanna when they found her in the car that they drove her directly to the hospital instead of calling an ambulance. It’s a good thing someone called the police when they did.
[Rihanna and Chris Brown] began squabbling after leaving Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party late Saturday. Shortly after midnight, things blew up. Brown pulled his silver Lamborghini to the side of a street in L.A.’s Hancock Park neighborhood. That’s when, per the source, Rihanna grabbed the car keys and tossed them out the window, sending Brown into a rage.
He tried in vain to find the keys, then came back to the car, put his hands around her neck and, according to the insider, said, “I’m going to kill you!”
According to the source, the 20-year-old “Disturbia” singer told police that she lost consciousness, and when she awoke, Brown had fled.
According to the source, her right eye was blackened and badly swollen and she had hand prints on her arms. The responding officers were so concerned about her, they drove Rihanna to the hospital in their squad car instead of waiting for an ambulance.
Officers took two sets of photographs of the banged-up singer, one at the scene and the second after she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment. Those photos were presumably among the evidence presented to the district attorney.
After being treated for her injuries, police escorted her down a rear elevator and into a waiting Mercedes, the source says.

It’s pretty safe to assume that Brown’s promising career is over at this point, and his endorsement deals are quickly dissolving. He was dropped from a Wrigley’s gum campaign earlier in the week, his Got Milk? deal has ended, and there are even radio stations refusing to play his music.
People has more details of Rihanna’s injuries, which were previously said to be “horrific,” and it sounds like that account was unfortunately true. She had a black eye, “a swollen split lip and two red and purple contusions on either side of her forehead,” according to a source quoted in People.
Rihanna is now safe with her family in Barbados. Her grandmother told a local newspaper that she is “fine” and that her nose isn’t broken.
OK! Magazine and the NY Daily News both have potential details of the incidents that led up to the fight, but whatever they were arguing about hardly seems relevant now in light of the abusive way it ended.
Brown has said in the past that he grew up in an abusive home, and that his stepfather was physically abusive to his mother, a charge his stepfather denies.
Both Rihanna and Chris have canceled scheduled upcoming appearances. It doesn’t sound like Brown will have many offers after the dust settles.

Salma Hayek has spoken about her daughter on Rachel Ray’s TV show, saying that she is convinced she has a sixth sense and sees ghosts.
The actress also has her hands full with Valentina, her daughter with (Francois-Henri) Pinault. At 16 months, the girl already is trilingual ? she speaks English, Spanish and French ? and seems to have developed a sixth sense.
“Last night she saw a ghost. I’m convinced,” says Hayek, “Last night she woke up and her eyes were open. And she’s looking at one specific point and she’s going, ‘No no no no, au revoir,’ which means goodbye in French … And she’s looking at someone, but there’s no one there.
I was so scared, and I’m like, ‘Yes, au revoir, whoever you are, get out!’ And then she started saying it in English: ‘Bye bye, bye bye!’ I guess she was trying in different languages to see what nationality this ghost was to go away. It was terrifying!”

I can’t believe little Valentina is trilingual, and can say ‘goodbye’, ‘au revoir’ and ‘no’. I have a child exactly the same age as Valentina, and she says ‘juice’. That’s it. She also doesn’t say it with meaning, anything can be juice.
This story reminded me that when I was a child I used to have dreams about things that were about to happen. For example, I once had a dream about a fire at the end of my street, then a few days later the shops at the end of the street did burn down. And no, I didn’t light the fire! Various people I know claim to have had similar experiences when they were small, but not as adults - are children just more open to this? Psychics often suggest that only people that have open minds about ghosts and fairies will actually see these things.
So, while some of you might think Salma is crazy, perhaps Valentina did see a ghost. Obviously her language skills aren’t up to explaining to Salma what she did see - unless she was trying to tell her mother to go away.

Reese has a sense of humor about it, though. She sees it all as her kids keeping her real and grounded. She sees herself as ?a regular embarrassing old mom.” However, not many ?embarrassing? old moms get to do the dirty with Jake Gyllenhaal, so she?s probably not all that bad. Reese gave an interview to Parents magazine, and People has the details.
She might be an Oscar-winning actress but to her two kids, Reese Witherspoon is sometimes, well, just embarrassing, she says in a new interview.
To illustrate her point, the actress tells the story to Parents magazine of taking her 9-year-old daughter Ava to see country star Carrie Underwood.
“She said, ‘Mom I really appreciate you taking me to the concert, but will you please not embarrass me in front of Carrie Underwood by singing because she’s a real singer and you’re just, like a movie singer,” says Witherspoon, who won a Best Actress Oscar for playing singer June Carter Cash in 2005’s Walk the Line.
But apparently her vocal chops haven’t impressed her daughter. “I love to sing around the house and in the car,” she says, “but my daughter hates it.”
Still, she appreciates that Ava and son Deacon, 5, see her as just their mom. “Realizing you’re not anything special to the kids is always a great sort of reminder that you’re just a regular person,” the actress tells the magazine, which hits newsstands Feb. 17. “A regular embarrassing old mom.”
The kids however, haven’t seen Mommy at the multiplex. “They know what I do for a living ? that I’m an actress,” she says. “But they haven’t seen any of my movies. Yet.”
Witherspoon, a self-described working mother, says her acting schedule, while very demanding at times, allows her the freedom to peek in on the kids at school. “I do get to be there for school fairs, plays … It’s so shocking to see my children in school having an entire life without me.”

A few days ago, Reese was photographed with some kind of bulge in the belly-baby area, and some sites were gossiping that Jake had gotten Reese pregnant. I really doubt it, though. Reese is such an old-fashioned girl. Although, if I remember correctly, she got knocked up with Ava before she and Ryan Phillippe were married, though they hurried up and did an old-fashioned shotgun wedding before it turned scandalous. Most likely the bulge was just a big lunch or a bad shirt.

Kanye was so devastated that he actually stopped talking about himself for a minute. Gasp! My monocle just popped out. “[Rihanna] has the potential to be, you know, the greatest artist of all time and, in that sense, I feel like [she is] my baby sis. I would do any and everything to help her in any situation.”
