Jake Gyllenhaal on if he's interested in stinking up the Batman suit: 'it would be an honor'
Adam West. Michael Keaton. Christian Bale. Ben Affleck. These are all actors who have famously played the Caped Crusader himself, Batman. (I left out Clooney on purpose, *but* I think his cameo in The Flash movie was perfection.) Batman is such a well worn-in property at this point that the chance to play him comes along like six times per generation. Jake Gyllenhaal has long-wanted to play the Dark Knight. And since James Gunn is (infamously) rebooting the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) since taking over in November 2022, he?s looking for a new Batman. In an interview with Screen Rant, Jake commented on fan rumblings about him playing Bruce Wayne?s alter ego, calling it an ?honor.?

Screen Rant: Jake, watching you in these action scenes was absolutely incredible. Like I said, it was deliciously visceral. But a while back, I know that you auditioned for the role of Batman, and I got some Batman vibes in this film when you were beating the crap out of people. Is that a role you?d still be interested in, especially after doing a movie like this?

Jake Gyllenhaal: Oh, man. That?s a classic. It?s an honor. Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, to me actually roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, which, to me, actually, when I think about it, I?m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I?m intimidated by that. So that?s the first level. That?s what I?m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.

[From Screen Rant]

Alright, I know there?s a good amount of y?all on here who are into this stuff like I am. What are your thoughts at a potential Gyllenhaal Batman? I?m a very hard no on this one. He was fine as Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home but?Batman? Bruce Wayne needs to be played by a certain type of actor and that is not Jake. ?But Rosie,? you may say, ?What about Robert Pattinson?? I did like the RPattz Batman movie a lot more than I expected to. I think it was because The Batman was an artsy, noir, whodunit version of the character set in an entirely different universe.

At the end of the day, let?s just stick with Maggie as the Gyllenhaal sibling who?s involved in a Batman movie. I suppose, however, if Jake wanted to, there?s always a villain or someone else he could play. There?s also that small matter of Jake?s personal hygiene. Will he commit to daily showers if he plays Batman? It gets hot in that suit, even without all of the ass-kicking. You know Bruce Wayne probably takes two to three showers a day. Anyway, if Aaron Taylor Johson really is going to be the next James Bond, then I put Idris Elba up for consideration for the role. Idris would make a fine Batman.

Beyonce developed 'Cowboy Carter' after she did not feel 'welcome' at the CMAs
When Beyonce released Lemonade in 2016, it was immediately recognized as her magnum opus, arguably the most important/significant album in a CV full of significant music. At first, I wasn?t sure what I really thought about ?Daddy Lessons? when I heard the album/studio version. Then Beyonce re-recorded it with the then-Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) and in November 2016, they performed the song at the CMAs. It quickly became one of the most talked-about live performances of the year, and most significant CMA performance of all time. While many of the country music people in the room were visibly into it, there was absolutely some hostility in the room and there was a huge amount of salty white country people trashing the song and the performance online. The CMAs briefly deleted the performance from their archives, then brought it back after everyone called them racist trash.

I bring all of that up because all of that was the precursor to Beyonce?s new country album, Cowboy Carter. On Tuesday, Beyonce revealed the album cover and she made an oblique reference to what happened in 2016:

act ii COWBOY CARTER 3.29

Today marks the 10-day countdown until the release of act ii. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of the supporters of TEXAS HOLD ?EM and 16 CARRIAGES. I feel honored to be the first Black woman with the number one single on the Hot Country Songs chart. That would not have happened without the outpouring of support from each and every one of you. My hope is that years from now, the mention of an artist?s race, as it relates to releasing genres of music, will be irrelevant.

This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed?and it was very clear that I wasn?t. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive. It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history.

The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me. act ii is a result of challenging myself, and taking my time to bend and blend genres together to create this body of work.

I have a few surprises on the album, and have collaborated with some brilliant artists who I deeply respect. I hope that you can hear my heart and soul, and all the love and passion that I poured into every detail and every sound.

I focused on this album as a continuation of RENAISSANCE?I hope this music is an experience, creating another journey where you can close your eyes, start from the beginning and never stop.

This ain?t a Country album. This is a ?Beyonc? album. This is act ii COWBOY CARTER, and I am proud to share it with y?all!

[From Beyonce]

?This ain?t a Country album. This is a ?Beyonc? album.? Period. She?s really saying ?y?all wanted to say a Black artist isn?t welcome at the CMAs, that?s cute, I?m about to Beyoncify your whole gddamn genre.? Seriously though, this is Peak Virgo grudge-holding. You want to tell BEYONCE, the Most Virgo Ever, that she?s unwelcome somewhere? Well, she?s going to spend six-plus years showing you why you?re you should kept your fking mouth shut.

Beyonce also posted a TikTok compilation of all of the fun videos people made dancing to ?Texas Hold ?Em.?

Michael Keaton on working with Jenna Ortega on Beetlejuice 2: she's just got it
Though he didn?t get talked about as much as naked John Cena or Ryan Gosling?s ?Pink Rhinestones Are A Ken?s Best Friend? number, I thought Michael Keaton was a real winner on Oscar night. He and Catherine O?Hara were funny and tight when presenting, and then Michael took it up a notch when he volleyed back to Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger from the audience. He just made it look so easy. Of course the pairing of Michael and Catherine was part of early promo for the Beetlejuice sequel that comes out in September, brilliantly titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. While at the premiere of his latest movie Knox Goes Away (that he stars in and directed), Michael talked about how seamlessly Jenna Ortega fit into the returning gang with her role as Winona Ryder?s daughter:

Michael Keaton has nothing but good things to say about his co-stars for the upcoming sequel to Tim Burton?s 1988 cult classic, Beetlejuice. The long-awaited flick, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is set for theatrical release on Sept. 6 and returns to the afterlife to continue the story of Keaton?s titular ?bio-exorcist.?

Winona Ryder and Catherine O?Hara return for the sequel, with Jenna Ortega ? who worked with Burton on Wednesday ? joining the cast as the daughter of Ryder?s character, Lydia Deetz.

The actor shared a little bit about working alongside his new castmate while chatting with ET?s Cassie DiLaura at the Knox Goes Away premiere on Thursday.

?Oh man, she?s good, she?s just got it, you know? She?s got the tone,? Keaton said of Ortega. ?She showed up and just immediately knew what the tone was and just slipped in like she does every day. She?s really special.?

Ortega previously gushed to ET about working on the sequel, which she called ?some of the most fun I?ve ever had on a set.? She added, ?Visually, so exciting. Everything was practical.?

?I think we?re not using very much CGI or something like that at all,? Ortega noted.

Speaking on the cast, Ortega said, ?Everyone did an incredible job. I felt so lucky to be there, it was insane ? I can?t wait for people to see.?

?It took a while to get there,? Keaton previously told ET. ?I didn?t really think we were gonna do it and didn?t want to do it, various times [in the] last few years, but it was more fun than the other one.?

?[Tim] was really, really great ? back in his comfort zone,? he added. ?I could tell he was having fun. Which is really contagious, when you?re around that.?

While waiting for Beetlejuice to creep into theaters on Sept. 6, fans can check out Keaton as he returns to the director?s chair for Knox Goes Away, his first time behind the camera since 2009?s The Merry Gentleman. The star plays the titular hitman, who struggles to help his estranged son (James Marsden) after being diagnosed with a rare form of dementia.

[From ET Online]

Michael Keaton isn?t the only one to comment recently on how much fun Tim Burton was having on this Beetlejuice set. As part of her profile in the Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue, Jenna Ortega said ?It was probably the happiest I had ever seen Tim on a set, where he?s clapping at the monitor and shouting and laughing, which was really, really endearing.? Tim Burton? Having a non-tortured, non-soul crushing time realizing an artistic vision? Growth is possible, people! I?m actually not surprised to hear this. Tim, Michael, Catherine O?Hara, Winona Ryder ? they all get to work together again on a film that was a touchstone for many people. And they?ve all been around long enough to appreciate how lucky an opportunity that is. And yeah, no surprise that Jenna just got it. Yeah baby, she?s got it. So, countdown until September. Which gives the Vermont State Police yet more time to find the culprits who stole huge prop pieces from the set last July. They?re still at large, and I?m still hoping for a companion documentary on the heist to be released with the movie!

Dakota Johnson on press tours: 'I can't take any of it seriously at all'
Dakota Johnson has an interesting interview with Bustle, and my first thought was ?wow, quick turnaround from Madame Web bombing at the box office.? While she does get into the Madame Web catastrophe, the point of this interview is Dakota promoting her production company and her new book club, TeaTime Book Club. It?s yet another side-gig for Dakota, and it feels like she?s trying to go for the Reese Witherspoon route of starting a production company and book club to find properties to buy and produce. Dakota is not online and she would rather be sitting in her beach house reading a good book or spending time with artists and her family. Some highlights from this Bustle piece:

She?s a beach person: ?I live way out by the beach, out in Malibu. I need to be in nature. I can be out at my house and not see or speak to another human for days on end, and I feel wonderful.?

Her book club is different: ?There are a lot of people who do things like I do and they have book clubs, and I was always like, Oh, the way that I read books, it?s so different. I want to fall down the rabbit hole every time I read? to invest in the book, invest in the language, invest in the references. Like, Oh, what is that piece of art she?s talking about? Who?s that musician?? I?ve found in book clubs that you?re just kind of on your own. You watch someone like me have a conversation with the author, but I don?t feel invested in that.?

Press tours are ridiculous: ?Publicly? all that stuff is ridiculous. It?s hard for me to fake it. It?s hard for me sometimes to go along with the silliness of doing a press tour. I had the LA premiere for Madame Web and then went to Mexico City. I had pneumonia and was on steroids and the nebulizer and doing all these little things, and I was really, really sick and felt horrible. I looked horrible. I was like, Ugh. And then the movie came out and it was? Like, I can?t take any of it seriously at all. I dunno.

The critical reaction to Madame Web: ?Unfortunately, I?m not surprised that this has gone down the way it has. It?s so hard to get movies made, and in these big movies that get made ? and it?s even starting to happen with the little ones, which is what?s really freaking me out ? decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it?s made by committee. Films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists around them. You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms. My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they?re not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullsh*t. Even if films start to be made with AI, humans aren?t going to f*cking want to see those.

Her thoughts now that ?Madame Web? is over: ?It was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don?t make sense in that world. And I know that now. But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it?s one thing and then as you?re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you?re like, Wait, what? But it was a real learning experience, and of course it?s not nice to be a part of something that?s ripped to shreds, but I can?t say that I don?t understand.

On the Puriteens questioning the need for sex scenes in movies: ?I feel like people get up in arms about things just to be up in arms about things. This culture of hating ? it?s so boring. Because you know those people who are like, ?Why is there a sex scene in it?,? are going to go home and watch p0rn. If there?s a sex scene that feels gratuitous and out of context, then yeah, say that. But if it?s part of the story and it makes sense, what are you going to say? It?s also like, can everyone just f*cking relax and stop judging each other so hard? Everyone?s doing their best. I mean some people are not. Some people are really doing their absolute worst and we see you.

Being in love with a musician: ?I love me a musician. I think it?s talent. I think it?s the way that they see the world. But I think it really depends on the musician. I?ve known some sh-tty ones. I love watching [Chris Martin on stage]. I could watch him every day. I don?t know how to explain it. I feel like, I don?t know I?m watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing. When people are really good at things, it is [sexy.] Except being a dictator.

She refers to Chris?s kids as her stepkids: ?I think as long as you?re not hurting anyone physically, emotionally, psychologically, do you. I like that people are exploring existence and how to relate to other people. My stepson had a friend who was saying that at her school, some kids are identifying as cats. And I was like, OK, good for you.

Being a stepmom: ?I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.?

She loves to lie in interviews: ?The most fun. The most fun. Sometimes when you?re in a ridiculous situation, you just have to be ridiculous.

[From Bustle]

I was prepared to hate on her Madame Web answers, but she handled that really well. She telegraphed all of that during the publicity tour as well, that the thing she signed up for was not the thing which was made. Too many cooks in the kitchen, too many executives putting their two cents in, etc. Some of MW?s failure will fall on Dakota?s shoulders, but she won?t own it solely. A lot of people made a lot of bad decisions.

As for the rest of it? it?s interesting that she refers to Chris?s kids as her stepkids! We?ve known for a while that Dakota and Gwyneth are fine with each other, and Dakota and Apple Martin have been photographed together too. I can?t imagine what it?s like to navigate all of that. I also wonder if Chris will be mad that Dakota talked about him in an interview. She usually avoids all of that.
