The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot came out in theaters this past weekend. It features a whole new group of young actors being stalked by a man with a fishhook, with original series stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. back to reprise their roles. For J.Love, this actually marks her first live-action film role since 2012. (She currently stars in the Ryan Murphy series, 9-1-1.) Last week, Jennifer made headlines for her appearance at the movie?s LA premiere because trolls decided to point out that she looks like a normal, beautiful woman in her 40s.
J.Love recently sat down with NY Mag. She said that she almost didn?t do the film, mainly beccause of the why the press has always covered her body. She also described just how awful it was to live through the early aughts when everyone had an opinion on her body. You can read the interview here and here are some highlights:
She was worried about people commenting on her appearance: At first, Hewitt?wasn?t sure she wanted to go back. ?All of my friends had to talk me into it,? she says. ?Literally up until the last night before shooting, they were like, ?You know you?re going tomorrow, right??? I ask what made her so anxious, and she answers matter-of-factly: ?What people were going to say about how much older I would seem than when I was 18. That?s literally the only thing I was anxious about.?
When fame became a ?blood sport?: Hewitt is one of a handful of three-named, Neutrogena-splashed stars (Prinze Jr., Gellar, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Rachael Leigh Cook, Melissa Joan Hart) who rose to fame in the 1990s and enjoyed a brief moment of semi-harmless, Teen People?flavored celebrity attention. That is, until the early aughts, when Perez Hilton and his ilk transformed being famous into a blood sport featuring the public, the paparazzi, and their primarily female prey. By then, Hewitt was beloved both on TV?and in film?and she caught some of the worst of it. Reading her old press clips, in which men and women alike refer glibly or grossly to her breasts, is like entering a cursed Y2K-hole where ?MMMBop? is playing on loop and Carson Daly won?t stop laughing at you.
The Britney documentary was eye-opening: Hewitt says she recognized how much it had all messed with her head only a few years ago when she watched the documentary Framing Britney Spears, which covers, among other things, the misogynistic treatment the singer received from the media and the public. ?When I started watching it, I was like, Oh, they talked to me like that. Oh. I started crying for her. And then I realized I was crying for me.?
The super gross coverage she used to get: Our conversation turns to the resulting press for the film. It?s more difficult to find a clip from Hewitt?s past that doesn?t mention her body than one that does and often in a way that otherwise disparages her. Here?s just one example, from Tamara Ikenberg in the Baltimore Sun: ?It is not clear, exactly, what Jennifer Love Hewitt can do besides inspire legions of boys to glance glandularly at the I Know What You Did Last Summer movie poster, which features Love in a rather cozy tank top.? Another, the same year, from Frazier Moore of the AP: ?It is hard to explain how you feel in the company of Jennifer Love Hewitt. But here goes. Just taking lunch with her, you feel a little like a dirty old man. Not because she?s 20 and charming and you?re old enough to be her father. But because you?re an adult and she?s so fresh-faced, sparkling and childlike. Yet you know darn well she?s not a child.? And from a Fort Worth Star-Telegram review of the sequel: ?Hewitt does have some things going for her, none of which have much to do with acting. She is, however, one of the all-time screamers in movie history, as this movie frequently reminds us. She also has that face ? and let?s be honest ? that body, which the movie finds an excuse to clad in a bikini.?
That gross Jay Leno interview: While doing movie publicity, Hewitt tried to turn the unwanted attention on her body into a joke. ?I was known as ?the girl who laughed her way through The Tonight Show.? I just couldn?t stop laughing,? she says, referring to her 1996 appearance at age 16. ?I was trying to be like, I?m not overly sexy! I?m a nerd! I?ve referred to myself a lot as a dork, and I wasn?t aware of it at that time but, looking back, that was my way of saying, ?That?s not me.?? On the show, Jay Leno asks Hewitt about her love life; he asks her how old she is. When she replies, he looks disappointedly at the audience, then asks when she?ll turn 17.
That 2007 People cover of her in a bikini on the beach: ?I was having the time of my life,? she says. ?I had made up the dumbest song about eating snacks and playing in the ocean, and I was singing it to my boyfriend out loud, doing some weird dance move, and they got the picture and then it was on the cover.? She was devastated. ?I don?t think I was ever really insecure until that cover. And then when it happened, I don?t know that I?ve ever recovered from it,? she says. ?Because there?s a part of me that?s always like, Is this version going to be good enough, or is that going to happen again? Where somebody?s going to be like, ?Hey, this is her without makeup at the cleaners. She looks 59??
?I think that?s why the insecurity carried on. I don?t know if I?ve even ever put that together for myself other than right now.? She laughs despite herself?Her mother comforted her at the time by pointing out something she had never quite realized. ?She was like, ?You don?t get it. You can?t win. This is just people having a problem with the version of you they think belongs to them.? And she said, ?Take your power back. Belong to yourself, and don?t worry about it.??

I feel terrible for what Jennifer went through. I can absolutely see how the Britney doc could have been a wake-up call for J.Love and all of the stars from that era. They all went through some things. The way that people, especially adult men, felt like they could objectify her is sickening. I completely understand why she would be hesitant to put herself out there again and invite comparisons about her teenage body vs her now. That is an uneven playing field!
The negative opinions over Jennifers red carpet appearance were also very dumb because she looked gorgeous and confident. I?m glad that Jennifers found ways to protect her mental health and overall peace, and Im so grateful that she put herself out there. I sincerely hope that she can ignore the noise and continue being the bad-ass icon that Gen X/Millennials know her to be.

The big LA premiere of I Know What You Did Last Summer happened on Monday night. This is the reboot of the IKWYDLS franchise, but they brought back the ?survivors? from the original films, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. The Scream reboot did something similar, bringing back Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette. Gen Z likes an Xennial/Gen X tie-in. All of which to say, Jennifer Love Hewitt has come back to the franchise which really put her on the map back in the ?90s. JLH has been around Hollywood for three decades, and she?s 46 years old now. Of course she doesn?t look like she did in the 1990s. I guess people were surprised to see her on the red carpet at the premiere, because JLH?s photos are going viral. This video is too:

I was happy to see that Jennifer Love Hewitt got a new job on television, working for Ryan Murphy. She?s going to be on that wildly successful Fox show, 9-1-1. Hewitt got married in 2013 and has two children with her husband, actor Brian Hallisay. They have a daughter named Autumn, who is four and a half, and a son Atticus, who turns three next month. The last time Hewitt was on television was in 2015, on Criminal Minds. She used to be all over the place when she was single but she kind of hunkered down. She does post selfies to Instagram but she doesn?t post photos of her kids at all. I think her husband had some influence on that as she never posts photos of him either. The good news is that J-Love is back! She did the red carpet for the Fox upfronts earlier this week, looking so pretty and fresh-faced. Only according to Hewitt, that wasn?t deliberate, she was just hot and her makeup had worn off. She recorded an Instagram story explaining that she was melting on the red carpet. E! Has the transcript.
It has been a really intense couple of days. Like, so great, so blessed?but intense, the 39-year-old actress said in her Instagram Stories Tuesday afternoon. We go to the Upfront yesterday and nobody tells me the day is going to be like 12 hours long and the humidity is going to be almost 100 percent in New York City. So, I just have to apologize. Wearing a black suit? Not a good idea. Not wearing enough hairspray and teasing in my hair? Also a bad idea.
I just have to apologize for how wrecked I look in all the pictures that have come out. I was literally melting. By the time I got to the red carpet, I was honestly melting, she said. My hair was flat, my makeup was running off my face and I looked like I had completely forgotten I was an actress in this business who is supposed to look [perfect] when you step on the red carpet.
That is not what Im going to look like on the show. Im going to have makeup on my face. Im not going to be sweating. Im not going to be overwhelmed by being in front of a red carpet and crews again. Honestly, I apologize, she said with a laugh. I shouldve really gotten it together!
Hewitt hadnt slept all night, thanks to her two toddlers. It was our first time traveling with them, she explained. Traveling with toddlers?wow. I had no idea. I mean, I waited this long because I knew that it was going to be hard. First of all, let me say: My kids were ballers. Amazing! They did a great job. Hewitt said she suffers from anxiety and is afraid to fly, so she relied on Brian Hallisays help. My husband is a saint, she said. He really held it all together.
In spite of how she felt about her appearance, Hewitt told her Instagram followers, I had an amazing time in New York, I had an amazing time with my family, but Im happy to be home!
9-1-1 is the first series Hewitt will be shooting since becoming a mom, and its going to be a whole new learning thing, she admitted, adding that shes really grateful for the opportunity.
To get ready for her return to television, an exuberant Hewitt promised fans, Im going to be killing my boxing workouts again, getting in great shape mentally, physically and emotionally for all thats ahead when we start the season. Im just feeling really grateful, so I hope youre excited. Im excited. And Im really sorry for looking like a hot mess on the red carpet yesterday. Oh, my God! I was so hot! I was like literally melting. Like, melting. Melting! ButI had a blast!

When I saw those photos I thought that Hewitt wanted to present a different image, that she was showing us her natural look as a strategy for her comeback. I didn?t think that anything had gone wrong with her look at all, shes lovely, but obviously she was really self conscious. She just seems so relatable and vulnerable here and I feel for her. That?s always been her appeal to me that she lets us see who she is without making it into her schtick a la Kristen Bell. I think Hewitt could have more of a career if she capitalized on her kids, talked about them and hustled more, but that?s not who she is.
Hewitt previously said, of her return to television When Ryan Murphy calls, you pick up the phone and you do whatever he says because hes Ryan Murphy. I love that Ryan Murphy thought to reach out to her.
Also, I don?t miss that time when my son was a toddler and I can?t imagine dealing with two at once. Going back to work was such a relief for me after being a full time mom and I bet Hewitt feels the same.

Sometimes I forget which celebrities are pregnant. Like, did you remember that Zoe Deschanel is pregnant now? It feels like we haven’t seen her in forever. I honestly forgot that Jennifer Love Hewitt is pregnant, even though I just covered her last month and we get pap shots of her occasionally. She seems happy and like she married a dude who doesn’t want her to promote their family at all. As I usually mention when I cover her, we haven’t seen one photo of her 18 month-old baby’s face and she’s never made an issue of her privacy, either.
We’ve seen Hewitt’s bare baby bump before though, inside the magazine American Baby last month. She’s baring it again for an ad campaign. Hewitt is promoting Palmer’s stretch mark cream, an old school cocoa-butter based cream that claims to help reduce stretch marks. In a PR statement from the company, which also sent us these production photos, Hewitt claims to have used it for her first pregnancy and to have seen results.
Palmer?s Cocoa Butter Formula has cast actress Jennifer Love Hewitt as the star of their latest pregnancy ad campaign. Jennifer Love confidently showed her pregnant belly yesterday for the brand as the face of its trusted stretch mark products during their ad shoot in LA! As a longtime Palmer?s fan, Jennifer Love has trusted the brand to keep her skin smooth and flawless throughout both of her pregnancies.
The ad campaign will celebrate soft, supple skin during pregnancy and the emotional bond between a mother and her unborn child. I’ve noticed that I have stretch marks on my thighs and chest but I kind of shrug and go “eh.” Maybe it’s because my skin is so fair and the marks are light that they don’t bother me much. It never occurred to me to use cream while I was pregnant, and I think the marks are from weight gain anyway. So I guess that’s why I’m asking: does this issue really affect pregnant women to the point where they’re trying to solve it ahead of time? On Amazon the reviewers seem to indicate that they think the product works (and they’re legit reviews) so that’s something.
Hewitt is such a cute pregnant lady and she’s a great representative for this brand. She sounds genuine about it too.

Did you remember that Jennifer Love Hewitt, 36, is pregnant with her second child? I did not until I saw recent paparazzi photos of her last week, below. Other than that Hewitt has laid surprisingly low, especially since she had her daughter, Autumn James, in late 2013. I haven’t seen one photo of the baby (apart from stroller pics where you can’t see her face) and Hewitt hasn’t posted any photos to social media of Autumn that I can find. (If I’m wrong please let me know.) I would have never pinned Hewitt for the private type, but she hasn’t revealed her baby’s face and she hasn’t made a public point of shielding her child’s identity either. We similarly didn’t see any photos of her wedding with Brian Hallisay, and we didn’t hear that she was married until after the fact.
Hewitt covers the upcoming American Baby magazine. Doesn’t she look just like Kelly Preston on the cover? They have a video interview with Hewitt, which reminds me of the reasons I like her. Hewitt is always so friendly and perky, and she’s wanted a husband and babies forever, so it’s nice to see it happening for her. She’s super enthusiastic about it too. She likes being pregnant
I kind of feel my best when I’m pregnant, which means I should probably have 18 children. It won’t happen. But I do feel good.
On being pregnant again
I think I feel really grateful. I know how hard it is for lots of women to even get pregnant in the first place, some people never get to have kids, so I just feel really lucky that my husband and I have been able to do this… now twice… so I do feel happy.
On her pregnancy cravings and diet
Pickles for me this time have actually been a thing and they’ve been making fun of me at work… Italian food, which I kind of like anyway. You know, cake, hotdogs, you name it really.
On if her daughter knows she’s pregnant
I don’t know what she thinks of the belly. I’m not sure if she just thinks I’m fat… or if she knows that there’s something in there, but she’s very sweet. Every morning and night she’ll sort of rub my belly and she likes to kiss the belly.
Again, she really likes being pregnant
Just the feeling of it, I mean, it’s really cool… As somebody who’s been in this business for a long time and had to sort of be all about… what’s your figure look like, your regimen… I think if you can just sorta let that stuff go and really embrace what you’re doing, you feel kind of awesome.

I’ll have to see what the print interview is like but in the the video she didn’t say anything highly quotable. It’s nice hear how grateful she is to be pregnant, and to see how happy she is. Hewitt waited a long time to find the right guy, and she had a lot of high profile attempts. She knows she’s lucky and she’ll tell you about it without pimping out her kid.
Oh and in terms of the editorial, it’s cheesy but it kind of shows her personality perfectly. She’s sunny and enthusiastic. I could do without the belly baring pic though. You can see more photos here.

Doesn’t it seem like everyone is getting pregnant or having babies this time of year? Plus there are women who are announcing pregnancies when they have a baby under two at home. That’s the case with Jennifer Love Hewitt, 35, who is expecting her second child with her husband, Brian Hallisay. Hallisay and Hewitt just welcomed daughter Autumn James in November of 2013 and she’s already having another one. She’s due to give birth later this year. Here’s the news from US Weekly:

Hewitt has always said that she wanted a husband and a family and it’s really happening for her. I checked Hewitt’s Twitter and she’s played her personal life remarkably close to the vest. There isn’t one photo I could find of her baby or husband, it’s all about her career and the things she’s promoting. I’m surprised. She seems like the type to capitalize on motherhood but she hasn’t done that at all. Congratulations to J.Love and Brian!

No one ever accused her of being ordinary and it turns out Jennifer Love Hewitt has her own opinions on what constitutes an appropriate gift.
During her interview on ? Jimmy Kimmel Live? last night (September 29) the ?I Know What You Did Last Summer? star recalled a time when she was 19 or 20 and decided to send Matt Damon a bed while he was filming in Paris, France.
J Love shared, ?I?m not a normal person? [I read that he said] all his dreams were coming true in the business? but he didn?t ever really feel like he had a bed of his own.?
?I remember being really busy also and thinking that?s so sad, to have all your dreams come true, but not feel like you have a solid foundation. So for some reason, I though an AeroBed would help that for him.?
Jennifer continued, ?In my head, I was like, ?He can travel with it. Then it?s always his safe place.? I should?ve been like, ?Hey Jimmy, What do you think? Should I send this to Matt Damon?? and you probably would?ve been like, ?No you?re crazy, don?t do it!? But I didn?t, so I got the information he was in Paris, filming something, so I sent it to Paris.?
Unfortunately Matt never sent a thank-you note!
