One of the nice things about big awards shows like the Golden Globes is that even if a hottie doesn’t have a chance in hell at being called up on stage to win something, there are so many different after-parties and pre-parties and events that we’re still guaranteed to get a bunch of pictures of […]

I know that I like to make fun of these overproduced awards shows, but there’s actually a lot of good things about awards season. | Zoe Saldana in bejewelled Prabal Gurung at the Globes: cheap lingerie fug? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Zoe Saldana sauntered onto the Globes red carpet last night in a truly fug Prabal Gurung dress. Guiliana Rancic loved it and called Zoe a true “fashionista.” In response, Zoe simpered about how her “dearest friend” had designed the dress just for her. That’s sweet, but the dress is absolutely dreadful. I think this is one of the worst looks of the night.
I’m trying to wrap my mind around this horrific mess. Prabal Gurung has combined a bejewled black front with precious bodice ribbons and an asymmetrical white-and-pink skirt that descends into a Fredericks of Hollywood nightmare. Nothing about Zoe’s look works here. Not the severe hair and makeup, and certainly not the shoddy dress. The shoes are unremarkable, which is probably a blessing in disguise. Zoe thinks this is avant garde fashion, but it’s just a mess.
Paula Patton wore a white Stephane Rolland couture gown with the ruffle to end all ruffles. I suspect this dress would have made for a stunning silhouette, but no one can tell because of that damn distracting ruffle. At least Paula didn’t make the drastic mistake of accessorizing with Robin Thicke. Paula’s earrings and statement ring are supurb, but she went too heavy on the blush.
Uma Thurman stepped out in underwhelming black Atelier Versace. Are these separates? I don’t think so. The shiny black skirt is at odds with the severe halter top. Uma looks very uncomfortable in this dress. All that Botox doesn’t help matters. Uma’s not feeling it, and neither am I.
Heidi Klum kept the dream of being the worst dressed supermodel alive. Heidi wore Marchesa of course. The garish print is aiming for Asian-inspired flare but looks like a silkscreened mess. At first glance, Heidi doesn’t look like she’s begging for attention, but the skirt is pretty sheer from a side view. I also think she stole that necklace from Richie Sambora during the “Wanted: Dead or Alive” era.

| Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhuillier at the Globes: pretty or too Valentiney? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I’m giving Drew Barrymore a huge pass for her turn on the Golden Globes carpet last night. She’s wearing Monique Lhuillier, and she thanked the designer for making a pregnant lady feel good. I can’t hate on that. I mean, the dress is a perfect disaster of epic proportions. The floaty white fabric is actually embellished with pink-and-red appliques. The train is too long. The clutch looks like a Valentine’s box of chocolates. What a mess.
At the same time, Drew loves this dress so much, and her enthusiasm should count for something. So I will look past the flaws in this case only. We’ve seen Drew wear so much worse, and this is floaty and fun. It’s so hard to dress up a third-trimester bump, you know? Something nice: the red-orange strappy sandals look cute. I also love the diamond earrings.
Olivia Wilde looked amazing in slinky green Gucci. She made for the sexiest crocodile on the red carpet! I truly loved this dress, and it’s nice to see a pregnant woman who isn’t hiding behind wafts of embellished fabric. Of course Livvy’s bump is still pretty tiny, so we’ll have to see how she dresses in a few months. The green color is exactly what Olivia needs to play up her gorgeous eyes and other assets.
Kelly Osbourne brought a big-time attitude in a form-fitting Escada dress. I think she’s trying to look rock ‘n’ roll like dear old dad Ozzy, but Kelly simply looks like she can’t be bothered to smile. She could have pulled off this little black dress with a smile and without flashing those gross tats.
Giuliana Rancic went for a sweetheart vibe in this extremely poufy, wine-colored Lorena Sarbu gown. It’s a bit too princessy, honestly. She’s a very small-boned woman who gets lost in a big gown like this one. Giuliana is supposed to be hosting a fashion show, but it looks like she’s off to Cinderella’s ball instead.

Never one to miss out on a fun-filled evening, Malin Akerman headed over to the 2014 InStyle and Warner Bros 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards post-party last night (January 12).
The ?Heartbreak Kid? cutie wowed the crowd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in her black dress with see-through neckline and gorgeous smile.
Of her latest television gig ?Trophy Wife,? Malin told press, "I tend to get a lot of scripts in which people want me to play the trophy wife, which is frustrating because I want the interesting, meaty roles."
"I got this script and saw the title and I literally said, 'Hell no, I'm not playing a trophy wife. I'm not even going to read that. I don't want to be a trophy wife.? I've said it before in interviews, I hate playing the trophy wife. Because for me, in my head, a trophy wife is just someone who's a looker, who has nothing to say, you know? But my manager and I said, 'All right, let's just read the first couple pages and see what we think.??
"And as I was reading it, I went, 'Wait a second, she's so not a trophy wife.? That's sort of what you see from the outside, but as we get to know her she is this really cool girl who wants to be part of this family and is truly in love with Bradley Whitford's character. So that's what I liked about it. They really are in love. They're really goofy together. They have a lot of fun.?

Miranda completed the drool-worthy ensemble with layered gold necklaces, drop earrings, and Casadei black leather sandals.

| Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad at the Golden Globes: botoxy showgirl? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kate Beckinsale was late to the red carpet because she broke the zipper on her tight, shiny Zuhair Murad sequin mermaid gown. (These photos are from the Warner Brothers after party.) Kate explained to Carson Daly that she had to be sewn into the dress on the way over, but I could barely focus on what she was saying because I was so distracted by her face. She must have gone to the dermatologist for a fill up before the Globes. Kate, 40, looked like a pale imitation of herself. It was sad. I’m the same age as she is, and I understand the urge to get a little something done, but she’s gone too far and it’s very noticeable. I hope this settles for her.
As for the dress, it was over the top, but that’s how Kate rolls. She presented the best soundtrack and best song, along with Diddy and Usher. One of my favorite moments was when Diddy was excited to see Alex Ebert win best soundtrack, for All is Lost, and exclaimed, “he was on a boat with me partying in St. Barts!” Ebert said that Diddy had come up behind him, unbuttoned his jacket and told him to “let it flow”. Then, after U2 won best song, Diddy quipped “let it flow!”
Jessica Chastain was in black Givenchy. Jessica’s style is usually off somehow, often around the bustline (it’s true!) So in that respect, this was a good showing for her. The dress could have used some tailoring, but it had a kind of fun, superhero vibe with an avian-like pattern along the front.I dislike this trend of slicked-back air, we’ve seen this style before on Jessica.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus really nailed it in red Narciso Rodriguez. I thought she looked amazing. Giuliana Rancic was drilling Julia for her stay-fit secrets ahead of awards season, and Julia was game, saying that she cut herself off after Christmas and practiced moderation. It definitely shows. Julia was nominated in the supporting actress in a movie category, for Enough Said, and for lead actress in television, for Veep.
Also in red we have Edie Falco in ill-fitting Lanvin. As much as Julia’s dress is tailored and flattering, Edie’s dress is not. It’s a shame. Plus that giant bow at the top is ridiculous. This is a Christmas package of a dress. Edie was up for best actress in a TV series, which went to Amy Poehler for Parks & Rec.
Julie Delpy was more successful in red, in a bright Romona Keveza gown with an asymmetric bustline and full skirt. Some may find this dress underwhelming, but I like the clean lines and how modern it looks. The color really pops, and Julie is styled well with a messy updo and classic makeup. Delpy was nominated for best actress, for Before Midnight. Amy Adams won in that category.
Finally we have Monica Potter, of NBC’s Parenthood, also in Romona Keveza. Monica is so pretty, but this is a bit matronly to me with the sequin top, black skirt and styling. Monica lost out in the TV supporting actress category to Jacqueline Bisset.

| Emma Watson in peekaboo red Dior at the Globes: silly or avant garde? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Emma Watson wore one of the most talked-about dresses on last night’s Golden Globes carpet. Perhaps it was simply one of the most surprising looks? Emma wore Dior Couture, which looked classy and normal from the front even while she attempted to give us a view of her little black trousers. Then when she turned around, the dress opened up like a hospital gown to reveal a bare back and (thankfully) those leggings. Purple Roger Vivier pumps completed the look.
I think this is actually a very avant garde ensemble that Emma pulls off well. She’s young and funky enough to get away with an unconventional look, and it’s not like any of her bits and pieces are visible. The bare back is slightly sexy, but the modest front keeps the look in check. She knew she looked good too. That makes all the difference. Those pearl earrings are adorable! Emma had a great time with this outfit.
Emma Roberts‘s stylist (dramatically) announced ahead of time that Emma wouldn’t choose her gown until the day of the awards. It shows. Emma wore a basic black Lanvin dress that passes all the checkmarks, but there’s something missing. The fishtail skirt is kind of cool, but the dress doesn’t speak to me. Those turquoise earrings are completely wrong. Like museum giftshop awful.
Berenice Bejo wore a ruby red Giambattista Valli gown that was way, way too much. The lovely French actress was completely lost in this ruffled, embellished dress with a full-on train. I think the gown actually would have worked without the hip ruffles, which are the tipping point. Likewise, I would have skipped the gold earrings. Berenice’s beauty usually speaks for itself, but this look is overkill.
Melissa Rauch wore a canary yellow Romona Keveza dress to support her Big Bang Theory castmates. I’m not crazy about the dress, but this is a step up from last week’s People Choice look. Her hair and makeup are very classy, and I think losing the little “sleeves” would have been a knockout move.

Here is a post devoted to some of the biggest Golden Globes couples on the red carpet, and by that I mean that the men are famous and the women not so much. Note: I?m going to be repeating some of these dudes for the upcoming Hot Guys of the Globes post. Let?s begin with Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky. I told you that Elsa would come and I told you that she would cling. What surprised me was that Chris and Elsa didn?t just set up camp on the red carpet ? I was watching E! for most of the red carpet, and I don?t think I saw them at all. Elsa wore Paule Ka? it reminds me of something Cate Blanchett would wear. I?m not sure about doing a T-halter when you?re pregnant? it throws off the balance of the dress, right? Chris looks good, though. His hair looked cleaner than most of the women on the carpet.
I?m also including photos of some of the other notable couples, including Matt Damon and Lucy, Tom Hanks and Rita, Matthew McConaughey and Camila and finally, Channing Tatum and Jenna. Out of all of the dudes in this post? I?m going with Matt Damon? until CB slut-shanks me, then I would go for Channing. I?m digging Channing?s goatee for whatever reason.

| Naomi Watts in Tom Ford at the Golden Globes: one of the best or overrated? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Naomi Watts was in one of the best gowns of the night, in my opinion. She was in silver and gold Tom Ford. The dress was contemporary with crescent cutouts on the side and an ornate, necklace-like collar. It was absolutely beautiful, as was her understated hair and makeup. Naomi was one of the first presenters of the night, with Mark Ruffalo. Mark and Noami were very relaxed together and did this cute thing when they came on, tugging on their ears and saying they were doing it “for the kids at home.”
Naomi’s man Liev Schreiber was up for best actor, for Ray Donovan. He lost out to Bryan Cranston, but he’ll get nominated again next year I’m sure. He’s so excellent on that show. When Naomi and Liev were interviewed by Ryan Seacrest, Naomi admitted that she hit on Liev back when they first met. Liev was about to take off and Naomi asked him “Don’t you want my digits?” I love them.
Here’s Sofia Vergara, doing her same-old same-old in a sweetheart neckline ballgown by Zac Posen. Sofia always does this look, and she always looks great without giving us anything new. Something nice: I love her statement necklace by Lorraine Schwartz.
Sofia’s co-star Julie Bowen always takes a lot of risks with her fashion, but she has a lot of misses too. Here she is in a contrasting red and purple Carolina Herrera. This dress not only clashes with itself, it also has little goofy 80s shoulder pads complete with ruffles. It photographed poorly, and looked strange on camera too.
Sarah Hyland, also of Modern Family, was in Pink George Hobeika. Sarah told Giuliana Rancic that this dress was brought in from Paris for her. She also said that her hair was “Valentino runway inspired” It’s a cute gown and I like her hair, but there’s no saving her styling. Who did her unflattering, barely-there makeup and Groucho Marx eyebrows? It was like they were actively trying to make her look bad.
Laura Dern was in a killer v-neck Roberto Cavalli gown with sequins and a faux belt. She was there with her Dad, Bruce Dern, and presented his film, Nebraska, which was up for best picture. She really seemed to adore her dad and kind of gushed over him. It was sweet. I didn’t like Dern’s huge hair and extensions, which hung around her head like a mane. She could have let the dress shine with more understated styling.
And here’s one of the worst dressed and worst styled, Kate Mara in silver J. Mendel. Kate looks like she’s about to pop out of the top. The sci-fi sleeves may have worked on a sleeker design, but they don’t go with the deep v-neck and bunching along the waist. There are too many things going on with this dress, but at least it’s not patterned. Kate dyed her hair blonde very recently, and I hope it’s for a role and/or that she goes back to brunette. This color doesn’t suit her.

| Amy Adams attempts a retro look in Valentino at the Globes: budget or hot? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
I can feel all of the grandmothers getting ready to shout at me, but here goes: I think Amy Adams is one of the most consistently disappointing women on any given red carpet. Amy is always nominated for everything, because she works constantly and she?s one of the best actresses of her generation. But as a Fashion Girl, she kind of sucks. I feel like every year, we get our hopes up that this will be the year that Amy just kills it sartorially, and every year we?re disappointed.
For this year?s Globes, Amy wore this Valentino ensemble ?she arrived on the red carpet with a cool cape thing, and I was hoping that she would own the sort of 1970s-Halston vibe (which is an homage to her American Hustle character), but she took the cape off quickly, possibly because someone told her about Lupita Nyong?o, I think. So what we were left with was half a look, and it was not the interesting half. Without the cape, it was just an ugly dress that didn?t support her girls and the two reds kind of clashed. Plus, her hair was kind of meh. I was glad that she finally won something though.
Mila Kunis was also there, for no real reason. I mean, she presented one of the first awards, but she was SO unmemorable. When I saw her on my list of ladies to cover, I couldn?t even remember what color she wore. It?s Gucci, by the way. Blah. I also don?t get the slicked-back hair ? Mila usually has great hair, I don?t get why she was styled like this.
And here?s Helen Mirren, just because. Helen wore Jenny Packham ? I always admire Helen?s commitment to wearing sleeves, but I?m not really feeling this gown. Let me really look at it though? huh. Okay, giving it another chance. I kind of want to mess with it though. I want the neckline to be tighter and I think the color should be a tad darker.

| Reese Witherspoon bangs out in Calvin Klein at the Globes: cute or tragic? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Reese Witherspoon attended the Golden Globes as a presenter last night, and her whole vibe was a little strange, right? First of all, I thought she looked weirdly? padded. Reese has been getting pap?d a lot recently, and she?s usually in miniskirts or leggings or skinny jeans, so I have a good idea of how skinny she is these days. It felt like this Calvin Klein dress was not showing off her figure properly. Either that or my initial instinct was right, and she had padding under her dress. I swear, she either got a boob job or?? I don?t even know. I do like the dress in general ? it?s a pretty color, the silhouette is great, it?s flattering. The problem is mostly Reese?s styling.
Reese also seemed strange to me because from the neck up, it was like she was doing some kind of ?Mid-Western soccer mom? thing. Vanity Fair and Gawker?s Twitter feeds were mocking her, saying that she was working the whole ?America?s Sweetheart, heartland mother? thing because she wants people to forget about her liquor-soaked arrest in Georgia. Could be. I definitely think that?s what she was trying to achieve with those Mom Bangs. They were STIFF too. They did not move at all ? the only thing worse than bangs trauma is UNMOVING bangs trauma that had to be hairsprayed into place.
I?m also including photos of my girl Elisabeth Moss. She finally won something! She won Best Actress for a Miniseries for Top of the Lake. I wasn?t crazy about her J. Mendel mullet dress, but she looked comfortable and she worked it like she loved it, so good for her. I hated her hair too. That was the biggest trend last night: awful hair.

| Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung at the Golden Globes: bad ball gown or striking? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Sandra Bullock had one of the most memorable gown at last night’s Golden Globes and not for a good reason. She was in color block Prabal Gurung, who was also responsible for Zoe Saldana’s monstrosity of a dress, which Bedhead will cover shortly. Bullock’s gown reminded me of Anne Hathaway’s last minute Oscar change last year, in that the dress was sewn with darts that lined up just perfectly over her nips. On camera, Bullock was nipping out all over. Don’t they make pasties to take care of that? I don’t understand how a whole team of people could have signed off on this look. This dress is pink, black and blue, it makes no sense.
In terms of Sandra’s styling, her makeup was perfect and I liked that she switched up her hair. She’s been really bringing her style game this year. Sandra’s extensions looked a bit fake and too-long, but otherwise she was gorgeous. That’s a good thing, because this fug dress would have been much worse with bad styling. Oh and she was up for best actress, for Gravity, which went to Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine. (Full list of winners is here.)
Hayden Panettiere was one of the first arrivals on the red carpet last night, and she was also one of the worst styled. She was in Tom Ford, in a forgettable little black and white gown that hung limply, just like her slicked-back hair. Hayden was up for supporting TV actress, for Nashville, which went to Jacqueline Bisset. Bisset was visibly shaken when she accepted her award, dropping an S-bomb and saying that her mom used to say “Go to hell and don’t come back.”
Also suffering from bad styling and an underwhelming dress is Orange is The New Black’s Taylor Schilling, in Thakoon. I find Taylor so pretty on that highly watchable series, and I would have loved to see her bring more glamour to the Globes. Instead she wore a green dress that looked like a nightie and sported loud, messy makeup. Taylor needs new people! Taylor lost out for best TV actress to Robin Wright.
As a palette cleanser, here’s Julianna Margulies in black and gold Andrew Gn. In photos this dress looks a bit too formal and fussy, but on camera it was perfect. I also loved Julianna’s simple styling and her amazing Van Cleef drop earrings. Julianna was also nominated in the best TV actress category.
Finally here’s Anna Gunn of Breaking Bad in Donna Karan. This champagne colored dress fits her beautifully, but I would have liked to see more color on Anna. This look is very washed out. Also, where was Marie/Betsy Brandt? She and Dean Norris should have scored an invite.

| Julia Roberts versus Taylor Swift: who was worst dressed at the Globes? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Surprisingly, one of my most controversial tweets last night was NOT the one where I called Leonardo DiCaprio an ?old whore? (he is, btw). No, the tweet that garnered the most yelling was one where I said I didn?t really hate what Julia Roberts was wearing. And you know what? I still don?t. GO AHEAD AND YELL. Was it the best thing she?s ever worn? Of course not. But I?m old-school ? I don?t consider Julia to be any kind of fashion icon, nor is she one of my annual Ones to Watch on any given red carpet. Julia, as I?m sure she will tell you, has more important things to do than care about fashion. So for a woman who doesn?t give a crap, this Dolce & Gabbana look was okay. Not great, but not awful.
What would have been a boring black column dress was given some life with the addition of a white blouse underneath (and I think the blouse is actually some sort of Evening Dickie). Was the sparkly belt confusing? Yes. Was her beehive dated? Of course. But considering all of the terrible hair and awful styling last night, Julia?s whole look was far from the worst.
Julia was at her patronizing best on the red carpet too, she practically shoved Taylor Swift out of the way. I have to wonder? is Taylor Swift?s future as some kind of Julia? Deep thoughts. Anyway, Swifty wore this horrendous Carolina Herrera gown which? ugh. She might have felt princess-y in it, but it did not photograph well at all. It looked so cheap and just like a prom dress she would have gotten at the mall. There was some sort of ?hidden bustle? too which made it look like she had a butt tumor. Also: HAPPY DAYS because Taylor Swift and Julia both lost their awards. And Taylor got some serious shade from Tina Fey on stage. All in all, it was a great night to be a Hater.

I was rooting for so many different people last night, I kind of forgot that Cate Blanchett was and is considered the top contender for all of the Best Actress awards this year for her riveting, funny, tragic performance in Blue Jasmine. Cate is really wonderful in Blue Jasmine, in case you haven?t seen it ? it really is a tour de force performance. But that?s easy to forget because everyone loves when Cate brings her energy to the red carpet. Last night was no exception ? Cate always brings the thinking woman?s drama. At first I didn?t understand her Armani gown, then I was like, ?Okay, maybe I get it? and then I saw it from the back and I understood? it was a dress to be viewed in 3D. It was a performance dress.
You know what I love? I love that this dress could have so easily gone the Marchesa route. Think about it ? the material is flimsy, there?s lots of lace and some chintzy bead work and I?m pretty sure there?s illusion netting in the back. But somehow, Armani made it work and putting it on Cate took it to another level. This was one of my favorite looks of the night. And I hear you about her hair, that was my one complaint (although I didn?t hate her hair as much as some people). She should have gone for something that moved a bit more while still achieving the old-Hollywood glamour she was going for.
And although I said Cate shares the stage with no one, here?s Robin Wright (and her fianc Ben Foster) in Reem Acra. I think her hair is still too short and the color is much too neutral, but she?s a winner and she?s still Princess Buttercup. She owns it and she looks comfortable, so good for her.
