Cate Blanchett doesn?t get a ton of tabloid interest, even though she?s very well-known and well-connected. In the past decade, I believe Cate and her family have lived full-time in England, where they have a country estate. Cate is constantly working and traveling though she?s got beauty contracts, fashion contracts, and she?s always showing up for fashion designer friends and various palace events too. She?s got a steady stream of TV projects and films as well. All of that, and she works consistently in theater in London, New York and Sydney. I would think that the larger problem is that Cate is really burned out from working and traveling so much. Maybe that burnout is what inspired her to make these comments:
Actress Cate Blanchett has said she is ?serious about giving up acting? as there are ?lots of things I want to do with my life?.
The 55-year-old is preparing to star in her first radio drama in BBC Radio 4?s The Fever and told the Radio Times she is still not totally comfortable with being a celebrity.
She said: ?My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting. (There are) a lot of things I want to do with my life.?
The Australian most recently starred in the spy thriller Black Bag (2025), and has won two Oscars for best supporting actress in The Aviator (2005) and best actress in Blue Jasmine (2013).
Speaking about her experience of being a celebrity she added: ?When you go on a talk show, or even here now, and then you see soundbites of things you?ve said, pulled out and italicised, they sound really loud. I?m not that person. I make more sense in motion ? it?s been a long time to remotely get comfortable with the idea of being photographed. I?ve always felt like I?m on the periphery of things, so I?m always surprised when I belong anywhere. I go with curiosity into whatever environment that I?m in, not expecting to be accepted or welcomed. I?ve spent a lifetime getting comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable.?
[From The Evening Standard]
As I said, Cate works at an insane pace. Her IMDB page has been bonkers for years. Cate and Nicole Kidman are similar in that way they like to say ?yes? to people and help get smaller projects off the ground. Cate is even more hardcore because she?s regularly doing plays as well. Anyway, instead of retiring, maybe Cate should compromise and maybe just limit herself to one project a year? That might help with the burnout. And she doesnt have to show up for ALL of those fashion events, just sayin.

Over the years, it?s become abundantly clear that the only value Prince William places on the Earthshot Awards is being able to get photo-ops with celebrities. In 2022, he didn?t even invite the prize winners to the ceremony all of the winners had to Zoom into the show while William gurned and egged his way through the big celebrity meet-up. In 2023, Hannah Waddingham, Lana Condor and Cate Blanchett were tasked with flying to Singapore to stroke William?s ego and pose with the ?hot single dad.? In 2024, it was even worse, as William was pretty much exposed for calling up random models like Heidi Klum and asking them to come to South Africa for photo-ops with Peg. Incidentally, I absolutely believe that most (if not all) of the celebrities turning up at Earthshot Prize award ceremonies are getting paid hefty appearance fees.
Well, to hear Cate Blanchett tell it, she?s in it for the love of environmentalism. Cate has absolutely become more interested in environmentalism and sustainable fashion over the years, and I assume that she genuinely believes that Earthshot is an okay program and her support doesn?t come with a price tag. Which is probably why Earthshot people probably begged her to do this dumb interview:
Individuals must not be made to feel burdened with solving climate change alone, Cate Blanchett has said, as she praises the Prince of Wales?s Earthshot Prize. Blanchett, the Oscar-winning actress, said that the ?overwhelming nature of the climate challenge can lead to despair, but we don?t have time for apathy and inaction?.
Noting that it is ?really important to recognise that many people are struggling? themselves, she told the Telegraph: ?Climate can feel like yet another burden to take on ? that no one individual can make the changes needed to turn things around. But,? she added, ?(and it?s a big but!) collectively, we do have power. Small actions do add up. The way we consume does add up.?
Blanchett, who attended the 2023 awards in Singapore, praised the awards for recognising ?innovations that are not only game changing but rapidly scalable? The Prize, I feel, is a real injection of energised hope,? she said.
In an interview with the Telegraph while she was in the UK starring in The Seagull at the Barbican, Blanchett spoke of the ?mess? of climate change, and the importance of working together across the globe to find solutions.
?To pit the economy and environment and our humanity against each other is a retreat to the kind of outdated, failed ideological thinking that got us into this mess in the first place, not what?s needed to get us out of it,? she said. ?The first lesson that a disaster, a crisis, teaches us, is that everything is connected.?
The Earthshot Prize, she said, ?recognises the interwoven nature of the problem ? that advances in one corner of the world have ripple effects in others. The interconnected nature of the Prize is part of its power.?
[From The Telegraph]
I honestly don?t have a problem with Cate?s general sentiments, that it?s not about siloed individuals, banging their heads against the wall about the environment. It?s about working together towards shared environmental goals as a society. I can understand how Cate looks at Earthshot like ?eh, it?s better than nothing.? But again?William doesn?t even speak about Earthshot this way, nor is he capable of expressing these kinds of sentiments. He?s literally just doing it to hang out with famous people and try to convince everyone that supermodels are dying to hang out with him.

We?re coming up to ?Earthshot Week,? it will be here soon enough. November 7th is the date of the Earthshot Prize ceremony, but William will be in Singapore for four days, spinning his wheels and trying to create ?global statesman? photo-ops without ever doing the work of being a global statesman. The Singapore awards will be the first Earthshot Prize ceremony to actually fly the finalists in in the two previous years, William merely flew in the celebrities. The finalists were only able to, like, Zoom into the ceremony. Well, no worries, because this year, William is still making some celebrities fly in. Cate Blanchett is going to Singapore, as is Hannah Waddingham.
Cate Blanchett has hailed Prince William?s Earthshot Prize awards as ?game-changing? as it is revealed she will join him in Singapore. The Oscar-winning actress, 54, will take part by announcing the winners of the prize next month during its third annual awards ceremony.
She said: ?The climate solutions showcased by the prize are wildly exciting ? exciting because they are so simple, so possible, and so inevitable. The solutions are game-changing, and like all truly game-changing ideas, they have a strange ?how could we not have thought and implemented this before?!? quality. I am proud to be a small part of unveiling the winners.?
Blanchett, who has been an Earthshot Council member since the inception of the Prize in 2020, added: ?The Earthshot Prize is, again, highlighting and incentivising courageous, progressive, and inventive solutions that can be rapidly upscaled. We don?t have time for inaction and despair, and the incredible climate solutions from around the globe are cause for genuine hope.?
She will be joined in announcing the winners at the event by Robert Irwin, the son of the late Australian conservationist Steve Irwin, as well as actress Lana Condor and South African actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha. The awards ceremony will also feature performances by the pop bands Bastille and OneRepublic, as well as the Singaporean choral society, Voices of Singapore.
Meanwhile, the Emmy-award winning Ted Lasso actress Hannah Waddingham has been announced as the host of the evening, saying she will spotlight the stories and solutions of this year?s cohort of 15 finalists.
[From The Telegraph]
I love Hannah but I get the feeling that she goes to the opening of an envelope, and she was probably just happy to book a gig as MC of some awards show. Cate Blanchett though? well, I appreciate that she?s talking about the actual awards and the innovators and not acting like it?s The William Show.
With all of this talk about some glitzy awards show with celebrities being flown into Singapore for William?s busy-work, I?m reminded of the financial disclosures from the Royal Foundation. Remember this? The Royal Foundation spent 12.1 million on Earthshot in 2021, and only ?5 million? of that was prize money. William blew through 7.1 million of donor money to throw himself a party and embiggen himself.

Here are some photos of Cate Blanchett in Italy this week, attending the Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection show at the Palazzo Borromeo. Cate is currently a ?house ambassador? for LV, and she?s getting LV to design some custom looks for her using existing fabric, as in the fabric they had left over from other collections. She wore those fabric-remnant-designs in Cannes and I kind of disliked them. The fabric was fine, but the design was blech. I don?t know if Cate is wearing a dress made from ?new? fabric in these photos, but considering she?s at the runway/event for the cruise collection, I bet they just gave her something new to wear. Again, the design sucks. I actually despise those sleeves. This ambassadorship is going to be very difficult for me.
Meanwhile, while Cate was in Cannes, she did a ?conversation? as part of the Kering Women in Motion event staged at the festival. She spoke about recently becoming a producer and how she and her producing partner CoCo Francini decided that they need to enforce diversity quotas on the films they produce, basically. Or at least quotas on who they interview for jobs.
On ?Mrs. America,? Blanchett and Francini hired mostly female directors and crew members. On that set, they decided their mandate moving forward for all of their projects would be, ?You must interview a woman and you must interview a person of color.?
Blanchett and Francini are proud to run a company that showcases women, international filmmakers and diverse voices. For Blanchett, she recalls a time in her career ? not to long ago ? when she would look around and be the only woman on set. With her work as a producer, she is hoping to change that.
?We?ve both had experiences where we walked on set and done the headcount and you wonder why you sort of slightly feel alienated and annoyed somedays,? Blanchett said. ?I realize that I?m the only woman in the cast?there at 62 men, and yep, I?m the only woman. This ratio is bad?it?s really disproportionate. And it means you?re always laughing at the same jokes. I do have a really good sense of humor, but it?s like, let?s change it up.?
[From Variety]
I?ve already seen some right-wing sites try to make it sound like she?s dictating that all productions must be woke as hell, but? like, saying that you?re only required to INTERVIEW a handful of people of color and women is really bare-bones wokeism. It?s barely even woke?? Like, ?let?s make sure that we interview some women of color for this job? is no guarantee that those people will be hired, it?s just that you?re expanding who gets interviewed. I?m glad Cate is producing now though, she has such funky art-house taste, I bet she?ll help get some really cool films made.

While I was unequivocally happy for Michelle Yeoh when she won the Best Actress Oscar, I was also somewhat bummed for Cate Blanchett. Maybe we?ll look back on this awards season and understand when and where the shift happened, because back in December/January, I would have said that Tar and Cate were locks on many of the big awards, and deservedly so Tar is a masterpiece, a brilliant film with one of Blanchett?s best-ever performances. That being said, I don?t think Cate was upset about losing to Michelle Yeoh. She seemed almost embarrassed to win some of the early awards, and she clearly knew how big this was for Yeoh. Anyway, all of that to say? Cate did not dress like she expected to win the Oscar. She wore this Louis Vuitton look which? kind of sucks. I mean, it?s not actually terrible, I just expect so much more from Cate.
I don?t expect more from Ana De Armas she?s been a Louis Vuitton brand ambassador for several years, and they made bespoke pieces for her throughout the awards season. Unmemorable, boring, vanilla, bland. I will say this though much like Cate?s look, it?s not actively terrible, just kind of disappointing. I hated her center part, hair-down look too.
Kate Hudson also wore Louis Vuitton. This isn?t great. I don?t get why she picked this.

| Cate Blanchett wore ombre Givenchy at the Berlinale: stunning, perfect? | Added 809 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Cate Blanchett went to Germany for the Berlinale, for yet another premiere/screening event for Tar. She also took part in a discussion with Nina Hoss, the German actress who plays her partner in Tar, and they looked adorable on the red carpet. The bulk of Tar is set in Berlin, so this was some kind of homecoming for the film and for Cate. She even had to learn German for the role!
Cate?s look at the Berlinale premiere was SO GOOD. Cate hasn?t actually been giving us a huge fashion tour for the awards season, but this look is memorable and cool. I wouldn?t have thought to put Cate in ombre ruffles, but it works. This is Givenchy it looks like a modest turtleneck from the front, but the dress has an open back.
I assume Cate will fly back to LA for Sunday?s Screen Actors Guild Awards. I feel like she?s a sure thing for Best Actress at this point, but the SAGs will confirm it: if Cate wins on Sunday, I feel certain that she?ll win the Oscar. Meanwhile, people have been paying so much attention to the Best Actress race, I kind of feel like we?ve slept on the chaos in the Best Actor race. I swear to God, I will burn the place down if Austin Fking Butler wins for that cracked-out Elvis movie.

Here are the four acting winners from last night?s BAFTAs: Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for Tar, Austin Butler won Best Actor for Elvis, Kerry Condon won Supporting Actress for Banshees of Inisherin, and Barry Keoghan won Supporting Actor for Banshees as well. My immediate reaction was: wow, Cate is more of a sure thing than I originally believed. Everyone thought that Best Actress was more of a dogfight between Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh, but Cate is sweeping the big awards.
After that, of course we have to acknowledge that all of the winners are white. A white German man Edward Berger, who directed All?s Quiet on the Western Front won Best Director too, and that film picked up Best Picture. It?s a bad look. While I also want Cate to win everything for Tar, and I?m totally fine with Barry Keoghan in general, I really hope Condon and Butler don?t win Oscars. Butler especially Elvis (the film) was a cracked-out mess and Butler has no business winning.
Fashion notes: Cate re-wore a Maison Margiela gown which she originally wore to the 2015 Oscars. Kerry wore Armani. Barry wore a spectacular Gucci suit in red. Also, there was a kerfuffle when Supporting Actress was announced Carey Mulligan was wrongly announced as the winner, then finally Condon was called up.

| Cate Blanchett wore McQueen to the London Critics Circle Awards: meh or great? | Added 827 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos from the London Critics Circle Awards, held on Sunday, February 5th. The big winner? Todd Field?s Tr!! Which is great because that was my favorite film of the year. It took home Film of the Year, Best Director and Best Actress for Cate Blanchett. The Banshees of Inisherin was named the British/Irish film of the year and Colin Farrell won Best Actor, with Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan winning in the supporting categories. Bill Nighy and Florence Pugh were named British/Irish actors of the year (for their body of work) and Michelle Yeoh picked up the Dilys Powell award for excellence in film.
Cate Blanchett wore Alexander McQueen to the awards a black suit with crazy blue sleeves. She?s pulling it off, honestly. She almost always does pull it off, whatever she?s wearing.
Michelle Yeoh also wore Alexander McQueen she looks amazing. We?re about five weeks away from the Oscars and I still have no idea whether Cate or Michelle will win the Best Actress Oscar. Bonus Ke Huy Quan!
Florence Pugh wore Robert Wun this is such a bad look, my God. Why are people determined to make peplums a thing again? And the hat with the veil? odd, very odd.
Bonus Paul Mescal! Is? he going to have that unfortunate mullet for the entire awards season?

Last week, I suggested that I would be fine with Michelle Yeoh winning Best Actress, if only TAR wins Best Picture. At the Critics Choice, the opposite happened Cate Blanchett took the Best Actress award, while Everything Everywhere All At Once took Best Picture, Best Director and the awards for screenplay, editing and best supporting actor. I?ve halfway believed that Cate was kind of clearing the path for Michelle to eventually win the Oscar. When Cate got on stage at the Critics Choice, she actually made an argument that all of the nominees should be on stage because awards races are really dumb:
Blanchett began her speech by joking, Ive got gum in my mouth. I really didnt expect to be standing here, and, This is actually the second award of the evening: Julia Roberts, earlier, presented me with a bottle of mouthwash. So thank you, Julia. This is a poor second.
Blanchett continued by saying best actress is an arbitrary term considering how many extraordinary performances were done by women last year. The other nominees were Viola Davis (The Woman King), Danielle Deadwyler (Till), Margot Robbie (Babylon), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once).
I cant believe Im up here. This is ridiculous, Blanchett, 53, said in her speech with a laugh. Im so old! The actress then suggested awards season overall get a makeover: I would love it if we would just change this whole fing structure. Its like what is this patriarchal pyramid where someone stands up here. Why dont we just say there was a whole raft of female performances that are in concert and in dialogue with one another?
And stop the televised horse race of it all, continued Blanchett. Because, can I tell you, every single woman with a television, film, advertising, tampon commercials ? whatever ? youre all out there doing amazing work that is inspiring me continually. So thank you. I share this with you all.
[From People]
I felt that. I don?t know why someone always makes this point in every awards season, but this year? it just feels like the actress categories are so stacked and it?s not fair to choose between wildly diverse performances anymore.
Fashion notes: Cate Blanchett kind of phoned it in this Max Mara. Michelle Yeoh wore Carolina Herrera. I hope someone does a deep dive in how much fun Michelle is having as she gets all dressed up for this awards season.

Here are more photos from this weekend?s Governors Awards. As I said, they were very well attended, mostly potential Oscar campaigners? like Cate Blanchett. Cate will likely be nominated for TAR this awards season, so she was in LA to be seen by the right people (Oscar voters). Unfortunately, Cate decided to recycle this Alexander McQueen dress which I?ve already seen her in a few times. It?s one of the worst looks in her closet, why she keeps wearing it, I have no idea. The worst.
Carey Mulligan in Valentino. She looks perfectly fine, but I would love to see her zazz it up a bit more her looks for the She Said promotion have been too safe, too sedate. Also, She Said totally bombed in its opening weekend.
Jessica Chastain in Zuhair Murad. I don?t like this? It?s too? costumey.
Ana De Armas in bespoke Louis Vuitton. Really, really bad, right? It looks so amateurish, like the designer just bedazzled some napkins on her boobs.
Michelle Williams in Christian Dior. She just had a baby two seconds ago, I can?t believe she?s doing all of these red carpets and events.
Greta Gerwig in Carolina Herrera. She hasn?t announced anything but many are now assuming that she?s knocked up with her second.
Sadie Sink in Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2022. Very pretty and age-appropriate, I do wish the dress was a tad longer though? It feels more like a party dress when everyone else wears formalwear.
