Pretty much as soon as Anne Hathaway got out of her limo, people were already pursing their lips and calling her the worst dressed. She?s not MY worst dressed, but let?s be clear: this is not a good look. I think Anne probably wanted to do something really different than her usual Armani or Valentino looks, so she went with a designer she rarely wears: Elie Saab. And maybe Elie Saab did her dirty. I don?t know. Is it possible she actually chose this for herself and the people at Elie Saab were like ?really, girl?? All that being said, I don?t mind an animal print. But if you?re going to be bold enough to do an animal print, don?t weaksauce it with this boring AF cut.
Usually, Jessica Chastain gets about five things wrong all at once on any given red carpet. This Burberry look was an exception it?s not my favorite look of all time, but it?s totally solid. The only thing I would change is her hairstyle. She can do a slicked back style if she wants ugh but don?t make it look like you?re channeling Coneheads.
Penelope Cruz in Ralph & Russo. What a snooze, right? It probably costs a fortune to look this boring.

All credit to The Fug Girls for the term scrolldown fug, which Im pretty sure they coined. Thats the best way to describe Julianne Moores Givenchy look last night. I saw her get out of the limo and I thought oh thats not bad, it could be more fitted. Were so used to being disappointed by Juliannes fashion that I thought it could be worse. It was though, check out the skirt below. Its got like a weird split vest mullet top, a long skirt with a mesh overlay and a giant bow at the T back with more of that mesh running along the seam. Thats a lot of attention to detail for such a bad result. I wish you could see the face Im making, its similar to this.

It felt like Emily Blunt was coming into the awards season with a lot of late-surging momentum, and like she might be a surprise winner last night. She was not. It was weird. Her fashion choice was weird too she wore this Alexander McQueen dress (she was, I believe, the only person the House of McQueen dressed for the Globes) and while the dress is intricately constructed and interesting, it also felt kind of ?off? for the Globes. Like, she was trying to dress like she would surprise-win but also, the dress didn?t do much on-camera or in motion? I?m overthinking this, I know. That?s what Emily did too she overthought it.
People were calling Nicole Kidman?s Michael Kors gown her Dom Look and once you see it, you can?t unsee it. What strikes me is that Nicole fifty fking one years old and she still has a body like a Barbie doll.
Amy Adams in Calvin Klein by Appointment. The dress wasn?t that great (nice color, but the cut sucked), and Amy?s permanent babyface seems to be softening and giving way to the natural ageing process. I thought it was sad that Amy never wins anything. When will it be her time, damn it?
Catherine Zeta-Jones in Elie Saab. Sometimes I?m reminded of just how quickly gossip cycles change and celebrities go in and out of favor. Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas are old-school celebrities, and they?re still respected and admired by many in Hollywood. But? when they walked out on the carpet at the Globes, it just felt like they were two relics from another era, and they were so irrelevant now. Catherine?s look reflected that too her Elie Saab would have been a bigger deal ten years ago. Now she looks dated, just like her Botox-y Jokerface.

Halle Berry is so gorgeous she makes me want to give up sugar. I know shes on a keto diet by necessity as she has Type 1 diabetes, but if thats her secret (along with a ton of exercise, which frankly would be easier for me than cutting sugar) I will consider it. She was in Zuhair Murad, in a cranberry gown with a deep v neck and velvet stripes. I swear weve seen her in many variations of this dress over the years but my god does it work for her. Shes 52 years old and I should know this by now but I have to look it up every time because she looks like this. One complaint is that her fake ponytail is too long, but I did not notice that when she was on stage.
Halle presented along with Lena Waithe, who was also strikingly gorgeous on camera. Lena is usually cute and sporty looking but last night she just looked elegant. Its her new hair I think. This still photo doesnt do her justice.

Wow, Julia Roberts certainly looks? um, fresh? Freshened, perhaps. Her skin is tighter now than it was when she was in Steel Magnolias. I honestly didn?t even recognize her at first, although looking at her more closely now, you can tell that it?s a combination of things a dark tan and a brassy hair color to camouflage the subtle new work on her face. Julia?s pantsuited ensemble is Stella McCartney. You guys now how I feel about Stella?s work, but I tend to think this is? okay? It?s certainly flattering, giving Julia an illusion of a very weird hourglass figure. But if you look at the pieces separately, you can see that the trousers are actually terrible.
Honestly, Dakota Fanning was one of my picks for best dressed. I know we?ve seen this style of Armani gown on other women in other years, but it?s a classic cut done well, and it looks amazing on her.
I truly didn?t notice it last night, but Glenn Close wore one of the most amazing sack dresses OF ALL TIME. Angelina Jolie is so jealous that didn?t think of literally wearing a black sack with arm and neck holes to an awards show. Glenn?s sack dress is Armani. She got to sweep her sack dress up to the stage when she won Best Actress in a Drama. I wish we had a good cutaway to Gaga at that very moment.

Do you remember how hot Jamie Lee Curtis looked at the Halloween premiere this fall? (God I loved that movie.) Heres a link to those photos. She had on a menswear-inspired look showing lots of cleavage and her hair was spiky short and cute.
Last night a lot of people loved Jamie Lee Curtis look, particularly her silver hair. The color was amazing but there was something off about the way it was styled and her makeup was wrong. Jamie told Access Hollywood that she bought this white McQueen dress three months ago before she knew her plans. Its a gorgeous white gown, I love how sleek it is and the silver diamond across the front is so cool, but this is an example of how styling makes all the difference. Her coloring is off, her eye makeup is too dark and her lips are too nude plus she needs to do something different with her hair. Im sorry for criticizing this queen but I know how much better she can look!
Nominee Connie Britton was also in white, in a Christian Siriano strapless gown featuring silver beading in a delicate diamond striped pattern. She lost in the Actress in a Limited Series category to Patricia Arquette, who won for Escape at Dannemora. I really liked her look, its safe but kind of perfect for the evening. I have Dirty John on my DVR waiting for me! I listened to the podcast over the holiday and was enthralled.
Speaking of Patricia Arquette, she was in Vivienne Westwood and she looked incredible. During her acceptance speech she put on a pair of bedazzled reading glasses and now I want some. (I wear bifocal contact lenses now, I dont quite need reading glasses, but give it a few months.)
Heres her speech! She got beeped for saying how many f-ing teeth does a person need?
Allison Janney was also in Siriano. She looked a little high to me when she was presenting with Sam Rockwell. Maybe she was just imbibing a bit, that seems to be common at The Globes. This gown is amazing, I love the draping and how it fits her like a glove.

Taylor Swift has a tortured history with the Golden Globes. She was once nominated, and she lost, and she never loses awards. She turned up to the show once and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made a few jokes at her expense, which is the first time Taylor had ever been the butt of a joke before and she threw a hissy fit about it for months afterward. But 2019 is a whole new Snake, and Joe Alwyn?s film, The Favourite, is an Oscar contender. So Taylor decided to come out and present a few awards with Idris Elba. She didn?t walk the Globes red carpet, nor does it look like she posed for photos backstage. But she attend the Warner Bros/InStyle post-Globes party and she even walked the carpet!
Taylor stayed in the same curve-hugging Versace gown for all of the night?s activities. This dress is great, and her body looks amazing in it. I think it?s a combination of things she?s gained some weight and it looks wonderful on her. I also think she got her breast implants redone, because they look bigger and less bolted-on now? I also think it?s possible she got butt implants. Still, I feel like Taylor?s hair is throwing off the whole look. The hair says ?country music awards? but the dress says ?Golden Globes presenter.?
We expect wackiness and interesting looks from Janelle Mone at this point. But was I alone in thinking that the main part of her Chanel ensemble was just? a solid look? It was the gold hat that made everything weird. Sans hat, she would have just looked really cute and sophisticated. As for the hat? why is sitting so high on her head? Why am I hungry for Ferrero Rocher now?
Lucy Liu in Galia Lahav. I love her and I love Elementary, and I was sad when she talked about shooting the last episodes of the show. People really should have watched it, it was SO good. Anyway, Lucy just looked bizarre. She?s lightened her hair, and her dress was not great.

The 2019 Golden Globes were not good. In recent years, we?ve been spoiled with hosts like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and did I mention Tina Fey and Amy Poehler? Naming Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg seemed promising, and truly, it was an important hire: Sandra Oh has so much heat right now for Killing Eve, and it?s great to see an Asian woman take on that kind of highly visible role. But good lord, there were maybe TWO funny jokes in their opening monologue out of what was mostly terrible timing and too much earnestness. It was a weird vibe for the *start* of what is usually the most ?fun? show of the year.
In addition to that, Sandra WON for Killing Eve and gave one of the cutest speeches, complete with cutaways to her proud parents:
Sandra became the first person to ever speak Korean or thank someone in Korean on stage at the Golden Globes. She?s also the first actress of Asian descent to win for a lead role in more than 40 years.
It was also nice to see Sandra really blow it out, fashion-wise, for the whole night. She was one of the first people on the red carpet, wearing a gorgeous off-white Versace and walking the carpet with her Killing Eve peeps (her costar, Jodie Comer, wore a strange Ralph & Russo gown). Then she changed into several other gowns throughout the night, all of which were gorgeous. So, a mixed bag, but mostly a good mixed bag. And as Sandra said in her very earnest sidenote in the opening, she only took the hosting gig to increase visibility.

Last night The Americans won Best TV Drama Series! For such an incredible show it sure took long enough, its sixth and final season, for it to be recognized. It wasnt even nominated in the category until last year, which is a crime, and it lost at The Emmys to Game of Thrones. So Im happy The Americans is getting acknowledgement. Its a slow burn for sure and it took me a while to get into it, but its so worth it.
As for fashion, star Keri Russell was in this silver sequin Monique Lhuillier with a plunging v-neck and a floor length skirt. The top of this dress makes it look like shes slouching. I would slouch in that gown as I wouldnt trust it. Theres something off about the shoulders too. I like a good retro shoulder pad but the bodice is all wrong. Shes lovely though and Im so happy for her and her partner, Matthew Rhys. Plus all the talented cast and crew on this show. Especially the costume designers!
Heres a cute photo of Keri carrying her Louboutins while getting out of limo to go to the WME Golden Globe Party. Now I dont even care if I ever own a pair of those bloody shoes. I guess those high end designer shoes are typically uncomfortable.
Presenter Kaley Cuoco had on a very cute white and navy Monique Lhuillier gown featuring a velvet strapless top and white structured full skirt with pockets. The black bow at the waist fit perfectly and gave the dress a holiday vibe. She kept sticking her hands in the pockets and it was cute. She looked so good! I really liked her hair, it looked so sleek like that. Her arms are goals.
Linda Cardellini was also in Monique Lhuillier. More women wore that designer than any other, which is rare as Christian Siriano usually takes that honor. Her black chiffon and sequin dress is just ok. Weve seen that same silhouette, the asymmetric side draped top with the keyhole neckline, on so many gowns. Linda starred in Green Book, the white savior movie which won Best Comedy or Musical for some reason. I really hope thats the only award it gets this season apart from some technical ones.
Last night there was a weird bit where doctors in white lab coats came out giving flu shots. There was no real reason for it and the flu shots must have been fake, but Linda was game. A lot of celebrities said no, which would be my default response to random people doing that, and I usually get a flu shot. What if you already had one that season? Heres that

Nicole Kidman was everywhere for Golden Globes weekend she wore a dramatic MiuMiu gown for the 8th AACTA International Awards, she attended the Gold Meets Golden party, she did the BAFTA Tea Party event on Saturday, and she generally looked like she?s been having a ball. The Kidman Renaissance is here, but it really never left. I mean, she had some ?off? years for a stretch of time, but Nicole really has been churning out interesting work on a consistent basis for decades. Nicole is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in Destroyer, where she ?uglied up? to play a cop on the edge. She could conceivably get more nominations perhaps even an Oscar nomination for Destroyer, or for her supporting role in Boy Erased. We?ll see!
The E! Red Carpet for the Golden Globes starts at 6 pm with Ryan Seacrest (gross) and Giuliana Rancic (uh). NBC will also have a live red carpet show starting at 7 pm. The Globes start at 8 pm, and for the second year in a row, the Globes will be online too they will be livestreamed on the NBC app and on the NBC website. I have my fingers crossed that Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg will do a good job co-hosting together.
