During Miley Cyrus?s on-and-off relationship with Liam Hemsworth, there were some blind items painting a particularly sleazy picture of her relationships with Liam?s brother Chris and Chris?s wife Elsa Pataky. I never believed the blind items. I don?t think Miley was particularly close to Chris Hemsworth and Elsa. Maybe the Hemsworth family always knew Miley was trouble, or maybe they were just like the rest of us, and could only take her in small doses. In any case, I think that when Liam spent time with his family, he tended to, like, not bring Miley along. For a reason. So? is it off-side for Elsa Pataky to slide in a little insult at Miley now that Liam is finally 100% done with her?
Liam Hemsworths sister-in-law, Elsa Pataky, has sensationally claimed the actor deserves much better than his ex-wife, Miley Cyrus. The Spanish model, who is married to Liams older brother, Chris Hemsworth, broke her silence on the split during a press conference in Madrid this week.
My brother-in-law, well? after a relationship that youve dedicated ten years to, hes a little bit down, but hes coping well, hes a strong boy and he deserves the best, she said, according to Hola! Magazine. I think he deserves much better, the 43-year-old added.
Speaking about Liams relationship with her husband, she continued: You always find support in your family, and hes joined at the hip with [Chris], who has been there to give all the strength he needed.

I mean? she sounds like she cares about her brother-in-law. She sounds like she?s just hearing his side of everything. But? having covered the breakup drama for months, I sort of feel the same way as Elsa. Of course Liam?s not perfect and of course they were dumb kids and they mostly just grew apart over time. But Liam definitely deserved better, in general.

I know that there are many people who will argue that Elsa Pataky is a big celebrity in Spain, and perhaps in Europe, but for years now, I?ve believed that Elsa basically only gets work because her husband pulls strings with his powerful and well-connected friends. Like, I?m sure Elsa gets *some* gigs on her own, but I absolutely believe that Chris Hemsworth has called up various studio executives and directors and suggested that they give Elsa a job.
Elsa and Chris currently live in Byron Bay, Australia, having moved there from LA a couple of years ago. The move was an effort, mainly on Chris?s part, to limit the exposure and overexposure of his family. I felt a bit bad for Elsa so far away from home, so far away from meetings in LA and Europe, isolated because she liked to pap stroll, basically. So, somehow, Elsa got a job on the Netflix show Tidelands, which shoots in Australia (not far from Elsa and Chris?s home). Elsa chatted with the Sunday Morning Herald about living in Australia, the new show, and how she won?t go back to LA:
Who she is in real life: In Tidelands, she is somewhat ethereal, and there is a beach but she is more of a murderous, evil, vengeance-seeking half-siren with very few angelic tendancies. The real Elsa, she says, is probably somewhere in between. Nobody knows how I really am. The first time they gave me a role in my life, it was a show in Spain, I dont know why but I was the evil character I was going out and people would look at me and hate me. When you play a role like that, you find a lot of your own things that [you didn?t know were there] and secrets inside you come out. I feel like I can probably have both sides angel and evil. If I can play a role like that I can probably be a bit evil.
Raising her kids in Byron Bay: It is my dream, I always wanted to be in a place like [Byron Bay]. Growing up I was very happy in nature, with animals, and I dreamed of living in a place where my kids can run around with no shoes on, surrounded by all kinds of animals dangerous and not dangerous.
She plans to stay in Australia: I?ll never live in LA again, she says with the voice of someone who has been through the kind of wringer only a city like Los Angeles can create. We will travel back there for work when we need to, but I cant see myself living in a city again.
Getting the gig on Tidelands: It was meant to be in a way. I havent been working for a while because I have been taking care of my family and really focused on that. I wanted to start working again but we travel around following Chris and his projects? I was just so sick of travelling. This project was just two hours from my house and I loved the role, I really liked the script and I really wanted to do it.

Maybe I?m being unfair to Elsa and I?m not giving her enough agency as a woman maybe it?s as she says, and she was all for the move to Australia, and she was tired of LA and all of that. But as I?ve said before, a thirst like Elsa?s doesn?t get quenched overnight. And why should it? Elsa is a hustler. She did more to promote Chris?s films than he did. She used to have a million little side gigs and that made her happy. Maybe she?s changed. Or maybe she?s just doing all of this for her marriage.

I will say upfront that there are plenty of opportunities for me to make Thor jokes in this post, but I am resolving not to. Anyway, Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky are building a compound in their beloved Byron Bay in Australia. Unfortunately, they seem to be the only ones happy as the extensive construction of their dream home has left everyone else fuming.
Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky are building a monstrosity of a home in Australia and the massive building is pissing off tons of people who say its totally out of place and looks more like a shopping mall.
You can judge for yourself but its easy to see why the Internet is going crazy over Thors new fortress. There are endless amounts of concrete, a huge chunk of forest missing and it dwarfs everything else in Byron Bay.
Chris and Elsa have been building their dream house for nearly a year theyve reportedly poured $8 million into the project but the colossal compound has become a nightmare for neighbors.
The sprawling estate is expected to feature a huge swimming pool, steam room, gym and a luxury spa.

Elsa Pataky has a lengthy feature in the current issue of Vogue Australia. She lives in Byron Bay, Australia with her family and her Aussie husband Chris Hemsworth, and clearly, the Spanish actress is trying to embrace her new home more and more. Which means Vogue Australia gave her a gig: she?ll be attending some events for Australia?s Fashion Week as a guest of Vogue Australia. She also lets it slip that she has another gig: she?s the new ambassador for Spanish Tourism. Meanwhile, she also told Vogue that her brother has moved to Byron Bay as well, and he ?acts as the Hemsworths? photographer.? He brought his fiancee too. Um? I wonder how many members of the Pataky family Chris is supporting financially? Anyway, you can read the full Vogue piece here. Some highlights:
She likes to wear all of her favorite jewelry all at once: ?I like jewellery, so why not? It depends on how you wear it and what you wear it with, but you can just make it yours. This is jewellery I wear every day; I don?t take it off, because I lose all my jewellery? They mean all different things, like I have the ?C? for Christopher and then I?m very obsessed with the moon, so I have a half-moon and the other ones I keep changing. I usually put something on and it stays with me for a year and then I change it for another one. These pieces are all sentimental in some way. A lot of them Chris gave me on special occasions and I really don?t want to lose them, so I put them all on, and I do everything while wearing them: I horse-ride, I go to the beach ? and I like to mix the hippie pieces that I like with more expensive pieces.?
How her style has changed: ?When I was living in Madrid, I had to [dress] more urbane: when you go to dinner you wear high heels and have to be polished and have different bags ? so my wardrobe was really big with lots of more elegant things. But if you go into my wardrobe now it?s very relaxed because I have three kids, so I can?t go out in heels! I have one bag that I use all the time and own far more comfortable clothes that have an edge, so I still like to feel like I am dressing up. It looks really casual but it?s ?done?, you know??
She got a ?Thor? symbol tattoo when she was 15: ?Yes, it?s about Thor and I ended up marrying who plays Thor! It is shocking how things in life [turn out]. I just liked that [symbol] and the legend he had was so beautiful and I wanted to keep it.?
On the start of her relationship with Chris: ?In the beginning it was beautiful ? when I met him he wasn?t known at all and I grew with him and experienced all his successes and changes, and then he became just so huge and I?ve been sharing that too. Going through every moment and being there with him with every success was actually a good thing ? we grew together. It?s difficult when you go from being an unknown person to a very known person and all the changes that come with that? We did everything very quickly ? I don?t know how we survived as a couple. We were married and then a year after we had kids. It puts a lot of pressure on a marriage, but we came out good because there is a lot of love between us and we are very strong personalities but love each other so much. We make it work. So I think our years together have been great. Every marriage has ups and downs ? it?s constant work to be in a successful marriage and stay together forever.?

I remember when Chris and Elsa hit that rough patch. It was around the time he was supposed to promote the second Thor film (The Dark World) and he was largely absent from the promotional tour. There were rumors? and I got some weird vibes from him, like he wasn?t really into being married anymore. But they weathered that storm and moved to Australia and that possibly saved their marriage (for now). I think she?s happy enough, especially now that he?s supporting her brother, who lives in Australia too. As for wearing all of her jewelry all at once? no. I mean, I?ve seen some boho-types who can pull of the ?layers of necklaces? thing, but generally speaking?less is more.

Usually this kind of thing happens around Halloween. Like, I expect ?dressing up as other races like race is a costume? at Halloween. I wasn?t expecting it for New Year?s Eve. But it happened. Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth threw a NYE party and it involved ?costumes.? The theme seems to be ?Wild West? so people were dressed up like cowboys (fine) and Native Americans. As you can see in this Instagram posted by Elsa Pataky, Chris Hemsworth and his wife were both ?in costume? as Native Americans.
Do we even need to say words at this point about how wrong this is? Cultural appropriation is not cool. Someone?s race is not a costume. You could say ?oh, but Elsa and Chris aren?t American, maybe they didn?t know.? Chris is Australian, and Australia has their own (similar) history of racism towards Australian Aborigines. I just don?t get why, in this day and age, celebrities don?t understand that this is NOT COOL. And not only that, why Elsa felt the need to post it on social media. Awful.
Incidentally, after Chris Hemsworth failed to launch himself as a stand-alone movie star outside of Marvel films, his asking price per film has gone down to $6-$8 million (after an asking price of $12 million). Maybe moving back to Australia wasn?t such a great idea after all?

Elsa Pataky?s thirst will never be quenched. I was genuinely shocked that she didn?t attend the London premiere of her husband?s film, In the Heart of the Sea. But here she was at the Madrid premiere. Elsa is Spanish, so this was a homecoming for her. A thirsty homecoming. If she was posing any harder, she might break something. Is it any wonder why Chris moved his family back to Australia? I mean, he must know. He must know that if they stayed in LA, she would be organizing pap strolls every damn day with this exact gleam in her eye.
Anyway, to promote the dumb whale movie ? which I can?t believe we?re still discussing, at this point ? Chris and Ron Howard cover this week?s Parade Magazine. Most of the quotes are super-boring, but here are some highlights:
The conditions of film ITHOTS: “Once we’re in the whaleboats, we couldn’t get off and on. We developed real love for one another. There was such camaraderie in that and a sort of gallows humor, like in war. I’ve never left a film and missed a cast so much.”
Why they moved back to Australia: “In the space of three years, we had our kids and simultaneously my career was happening, and everything changed. We’d leave the house and there would be six paparazzi out in front. In L.A., more than anywhere else in the world, paparazzi are everywhere, 24/7. We felt suffocated. The agitation you feel from the paparazzi rippled in the house.”
Their life in Australia: “It’s just a quiet little surf town with a lot of farming, an hour and a half outside of Melbourne. There are other things in my life now?family, kids. I don’t want to have to be in the position where I care if the phone stops ringing. I’m OK about potentially not acting. That just may be me trying to convince myself in case it does happen, but I’ve always been weirdly aware of that.”
On ‘the happiest moment’ of his life: “Last week, we were in the car driving somewhere and my little girl was in the back seat with me. I was really tired, and I leaned over and I put my head on her lap… And she started patting my head and singing a song through her pacifier… There’s the idea that we as parents spend all this time protecting our children. No, I think they’re protecting us. Sitting in the car with my head on her lap and her singing to me, there was this understanding of, ‘Wow she’s looking after Dad, and that’s her job.’ You know? And that was such a joy. Oh, there’s nothing better! It was the happiest moment of my life.”

Okay, the story about his daughter warmed my icy heart a little bit. But then I went back to the quote about the paparazzi and I iced over again. I mean? does he know? Does he even pay attention to his wife?s raison d’etre? I don?t doubt that Chris is concerned about the paparazzi and that the paps irritate him. But, as I?ve said many times before, he should talk to his wife about that. You know who else lives in LA with their kids and rarely gets pap?d? Matt Damon. Robert Downey Jr. Chris Pratt. Sandra Bullock. Brangelina. It’s more than possible for celebrities to avoid the daily pap strolls. But it’s something for which a husband and wife need to be on the same page.
