I?ve been thinking a lot about sympathy this week and where sympathetic coverage is applied. Should Melania Trump be seen as a sympathetic figure? That?s still up for debate in my mind. But Amy Adams definitely has my sympathy. She works hard, does consistently great work, starred in two of the best films of the year, and on Tuesday, her name was not called. She did not receive an Oscar nomination for Arrival or Nocturnal Animals. Many believed Amy would be and should be a major Best Actress contender for Arrival, a film which actually picked up nine Oscar nominations overall, just none for the actors. Many believed that Amy is more than ?due? ? she?s already been Oscar-nominated five times and never won.
What I like about Amy is that she doesn?t complain. If this had happened to a dude, we would never hear the end of it. But these photos are of Amy and her husband Darren out and about just hours after the nominations came out. She was back to work later on Tuesday too, attending the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Conversations event, which involved a discussion about her career and performance. The Daily Mail wrote about her appearance here ? they make her sound like the saddest sack in the world when really she was just doing her job.
Her Arrival director Denis Villeneuve ? who was nominated for an Oscar ? namechecked Amy in his ?reaction? interview too. He told EW: ?This is the big disappointment. I?m deeply disappointed for Amy. She was the soul of this movie. For me, it was a given! She had the movie on her shoulders, she?s the one who made it happen. It?s a strange feeling to celebrate and feel sad at the same time.? Yeah, pretty much. Hollywood made a big-budget alien drama movie with a female lead and then every dude involved with the film was nominated and they snubbed the female lead.
Here are the photos from the SAG-AFTRA event. She looks fine. Maybe a little bit sad, but? here?s the thing. She WILL have another shot. And now people are being reminded that she?s absolutely due. So while I do have sympathy for Amy, I also want her to hold her head up high and keep doing her great work. She?ll get that Oscar at some point, probably sooner rather than later.

According to various reports, it looks like Madonna is trying to adopt two more children from Malawi. Two of her children ? David Banda and Mercy ? were adopted from Malawi years ago. Those adoptions were actually pretty controversial, because at the time, Malawi didn?t have a foreign adoption system in place. Madonna basically had to go through a lengthy court battle to adopt those kids, and many people (myself included) believed that Madonna basically bought her way into the Malawi legal system. She seemed to spread around a lot of money and then BOOM, she was allowed to adopt those kids. Well, now she?s planning on adopting two more children.
Pop superstar Madonna has filed for the adoption of two more children from Malawi, it has emerged. The 58-year-old singer appeared before a High Court judge in the capital Lilongwe on Wednesday to make the application. It is now up to the court to decide whether to grant the adoption order, Malawi government spokesman Mlenga Mvula said.
Madonna appeared before Justice Fiona Mwale amid tight security, accompanied by two unidentified children and several other people, before being driven away in an SUV vehicle, according to local reports.
Madonna’s trip to Malawi last year was the first time in nearly two years that she visited the country, where she has at times been embroiled in controversy after her earlier adoptions. She was stripped of her VIP status by former president Joyce Banda’s government in 2013 and accused of being ‘uncouth’ and wanting eternal gratitude from the impoverished country for adopting the two children.

It?s true that Madonna is not anyone?s favorite person in Malawi ? she was personally put on blast by the country?s president several years ago, and Madonna?s charity, Raising Malawi, has been mired in fraud, sketchiness and grifting since its inception. While I hate to put it in these terms? Madonna is actually guilty of all of the things people accuse Angelina Jolie of. Madonna flies into Malawi in her private jet, spreads some money around so she can adopt a child and then flies back to her penthouse and hopes that everyone will praise her for being such a humanitarian. All that being said? Mercy and David seem very happy. Say what you will about her, but Madonna loves her children. But does she still have the energy at the age of 58 to raise young kids?

Erin Andrews is the host of DWTS, taking over for Brooke Burke Charvet in 2014, and she’s also a sportscaster for Fox Sports. Last year was a tough one for Erin because she went to trial in the case against a stalker who recorded her without her knowledge from an adjacent hotel room in 2008, later releasing nude video of her online. She was awarded $55 million from the stalker and from the Marriott corporation in March. Then, in September she learned she had cervical cancer which would need to be treated immediately. Erin went to work covering a football game, got treated a couple of weeks later, and then went back to work within a week. It sounds like she never took time off to recover, but that’s how she preferred it and she wanted to get right back into the swing of things. By November she was given the all clear from her doctor. She feels vulnerable in public knowing that people have seen her naked
I know it?s not healthy. It?s something I?m working on. I feel like I have to win every battle. I feel like I have to prove to people that this has hurt me in ways that you probably can?t see.
She wants to help other victims
“[I want to fight] for victims who don?t have the resources I have. There?s somewhere I can fit in here, I just need to figure out where. I want to get in front of Congress; I want to get in front of lawmakers in D.C.; I want to try to strengthen laws. I just need to find the right group to align myself with. I?m making that my project once the Super Bowl is over.?
Football gives her strength
“Football is such a huge part of my life. It helped me get through the trial. On the witness stand, I said being on the field is ?my happiness, my escape,? and I truly believe that. I couldn?t wait to return to the sideline.?
She was diagnosed Oct 8, had surgery Oct 11 and was back at work on October 17
?Should I have been standing for a full game five days after surgery? Let?s just say the doctor didn?t recommend that,? Andrews says. ?But just as I felt during my trial, sports were my escape. I needed to be with my crew.?
How she dealt with everything
?After the trial everyone kept telling me, ?You?re so strong, for going through all of this, for holding down a job in football, for being the only woman on the crew. Finally I got to the point where I believed it too. ?Hey, I have cancer, but dammit, I am strong, and I can do this.??

Erin had a second surgery on November 1 and was given the all clear by her doctor on November 17. She did not have to do chemotherapy or radiation. I think she’s sharing this now because it’s right before the Super Bowl, she’s well on the other side of it and she’s ready to tell people about it without having the news interfere too much with her job. Plus she used an apt sports metaphor when explaining why she went right back out again. She told her fiance, NHL player Jarret Stoll, “You wouldn?t miss a game. You?d play through any injury, do whatever it takes to get back out there. That?s going to be me.” Her story reminds me of Giuliana Rancic’s breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in that Rancic made it a priority to get back to work right away as that’s what she was determined to do. That’s not for everyone and I don’t want to call it admirable, although it is, so as not to take away from people who rest after treatment, which is also admirable. People deal with health problems in unique ways and there’s no right or wrong way.
People Magazine has more information about cervical cancer, prevention and detection. Pap smears are key and given the fact that the people who run the country are trying to limit our access to basic health care please schedule one soon if you’re due.

I?m legitimately happy that Kim Kardashian is finally stepping out on pap strolls once again these days. I missed the discussions about her bad fashion. Since she took a break from pap strolls following her robbery in Paris, Kim has also rebooted her casual style a little bit. As we saw last week, Kim?s 2017 look ? so far ? involves what I describe as ?high fashion grunge.? It?s grunge in that it seems like Kim is wearing thrift-store flannels. It?s high-fashion in that she pairs cheap flannel with stilettos and tragic leather pants.
Kim stepped out again on Tuesday in another high-fashion grunge ensemble and? yeah, I don?t know what to say. Like, the reason grunge was so popular was because it was so easy and comfortable. But does Kim look comfortable? No. She looks like she?s trying to hide either a pregnancy or a weight gain. Is she pregnant? I kind of doubt it. It was just last month when it felt like Kim and Kanye were absolutely on the rocks, and like Kim was seriously considering divorce. Nowadays it?s a different story though ? People Mag had a story this week about how Kim and Kanye are doing a lot better:
Despite a difficult past few months, things are looking up for Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West. A Keeping Up with the Kardashians source tells PEOPLE that the 39-year-old rapper is doing all he can to make his wife happy, including filming the family?s E! show at her side.
?Kanye is really trying to please Kim. He realizes that his difficult behavior has been extremely draining for her,? the insider says. ?He is trying to make it up to Kim by going along with things that are important to her. The show is still important to Kim, so Kanye will support her.? The source adds that the two are ?still working on their issues separately.?
Kardashian West, 36, recently took a trip to Dubai, where she made her first public appearance since the robbery scare. West did not accompany the reality star to Dubai, but a source told PEOPLE that the two spend time together and are committed to making their relationship work.
?It doesn?t seem like they have plans to split now. Things don?t seem great, but it also seems they are working to change that. Kanye has been very low-key and Kim appreciates that,? the source said. ?With her life not being completely chaotic, she is able to be more understanding and patient with Kanye. Kim seems more hopeful about their future together.?

I do think it?s interesting that Kanye is the one who is putting in the effort to make it work. Doesn?t it feel like that? Because if it was just up to Kim, she would probably be talking to divorce lawyers right now. Sigh? I wonder how long this phase will last.

Remember Brendan Fraser? He was a regular fixture on my ?freebie? list for over a decade. If you need to know why, just Google ?Brendan Fraser Premiere Magazine.? You?re welcome in advance. The 48-year-old actor is experiencing a career revival thanks to his role as the villainous prison guard John Gunther on the Showtime series The Affair. In advance of the show?s third season finale, which airs on Sunday, Brendan sat down with Access Hollywood to talk about his work on the show, which is the first time he?s played the baddie. More on that in a bit.
Prior to The Affair, Brendan was kind of laying low, making a handful of film and TV appearances after 2008, when he last reprised his role as intrepid action hero Rick O?Connell in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Of course, the franchise is getting the reboot treatment (with the best unintentionally funny trailer EVER) and Brendan has been replaced by Tom Cruise.
Brendan?s fans have been vocal in their opposition about him not appearing in the new movie – and have spread the word on social media with the #SaveBrendanFraser tag as well as a Change.org petition asking networks to ?consider Brendan for any upcoming shows/movies that are planned.? Even with the outpouring of fan support, Brendan seems to be okay about the casting. Access Hollywood made sure to ask what he thought about the new film, and what his sons, Griffin, now 14, Holden, 12 and Leland, 10, thought about their Dad?s most famous role.
On if his kids have seen his movies: They’re really interested in other films… Actually when they were really small one of the Mummy movies came on in regular broadcast. They started watch it and went ‘you’re here but you’re there… this is too scary. I can’t watch this.’
On people wanting him in the new Mummy movie: I understand that Tom [Cruise] is very popular in the world of getting films done. I know very little about the actual project but I know it’s going to be great for an audience because they were always there for that thrilling popcorn movie feeling and adventure. I’m grateful for all of the support over the years. Thank you.

As for his work on The Affair, playing his first bad guy, Brendan told Access Hollywood, ?It?s good to make new choices.? He tried to give as much spoiler-free information about his character as he could, so as not to spoil the finale for fans. The big question, will Brendan be back for season 4? Brendan responded to that query with, ?I think you?re going to have to watch the show and find out.? He added ?It was flattering to me to be invited to work with such a winning cast.? He did kind of imply that his character may make an appearance on the show again.
I, for one, am happy to see Brendan Fraser back in the limelight, and not just as a momentarily popular meme. If you have a few additional minutes to spare, checkout Brendan?s interview with SiriusXM?s Sway in the Morning – especially if you want to hear him break out his best Link from Encino Man impersonation. I always liked Brendan. He?s been through some tough times, but seems to have risen above it. Could The Affair do to his career what Pulp Fiction did for John Travolta? With the critical raves he?s been receiving, it appears so – just please, for God’s sake, keep him away from any discussion at all about a Monkeybone sequel.
