Amy Adams is currently promoting Nightbitch, adapted from Rachel Yoder?s book of the same name. It?s about a new mother who gives up her career for her baby and starts to feel like she?s turning into a dog. When the film was announced, it reminded many 30 Rock fans of the kind of jokey film title in Tracy Jordan?s CV. But Nightbitch is real, and it premiered at TIFF, to mixed reviews. People love Amy Adams and people want the best for her. But no one is sure that this is the best project for her. Still, Amy loves the film and she?s very happy to talk about it. Amy covers the latest issue of Variety, and here are some highlights from the interview:
On her ?look? in Nightbitch: ?I?ve had people be like, ?Oh my gosh, you looked awful.? I was like, ?You do realize that?s what I look like in my life, right?? I love the metaphor of her connecting with a more primal and feral side of herself in order to learn how to let go and be present and engaged and flexible and find her joy.?
When she became a mother to her now-14-year-old daughter Aviana: ?Every moment needed to be dedicated to the care and keeping of my child,? she says, adding that, while her relationship with Le Gallo was ?more equitable? than the marriage in ?Nightbitch,? it was tough to be the first of her friend group to become a mother. ?Motherhood did redirect my priorities. And I think that changed some relationships. That was hard, but I don?t think it?s uncommon.?
The Nightbitch chin hairs were grown by Adams, they weren?t CGI: In an early scene, Mother discovers new hair growing on her chin, and Adams eagerly volunteered to grow the hair herself. ?The hair on the face ? that was mine,? she says proudly. ?I saw it as a wonderful expression of the human experience without any artifice or filters. Or tweezers! I have that kind of hair that just grows overnight. One day it?s not there, and the next day it?s like I?m a catfish. That might turn some people away.?
On the mixed reviews: ?It could be polarizing. I?m kind of like, ?If you know, you know!? It deals with friendship, community, relationships, motherhood, parenthood. It hits on a lot of different ancestral wounds. So if it hits you, that?ll make me really happy.?
A six-time Oscar nominee, with no wins: ?I am entirely grateful for it, and it also draws attention to films that might not otherwise get eyes on them.?
On Rachel Brosnahan taking the Lois Lane role in James Gunn?s ?Superman.? ?I love her. She?s gonna be great. Hopefully the role will be infused with her sensibility and her natural humor and strength and wit,? Adams says, also confirming that she was never under the impression she?d be returning for more ?Superman? adventures after her final appearance in ?Justice League.? She makes a point to praise her own Man of Steel, Henry Cavill, adding, ?Henry was a really brilliant Superman. I offer every Superman luck and stuff, but I think he was great. I just wanted to say that. It?s so in his spirit?.Coming from theater, a role never belongs to you. You just do a take on it. That?s how I feel about that franchise.?
Working with 22-year-old Jenna Ortega: ?I learn so much from the young women that I work with. I feel like I learn more from them than they could ever learn from me. I do forget that I?m not their age sometimes. I?m like, ?Amy, you?re 50. You?re not gonna hang!??
Life as a 50-year-old woman: ?It gets so much better. But there are things I miss: my joints working, collagen, things like that.?
[From Variety]
Amy?s admission that she grew her chin hairs herself? omg. A brave new world for actresses, honestly. Some women many women? have facial hair. I tweeze my chin hairs at the same time I?m grooming my increasingly chaotic eyebrows. It IS catfish-like. As for thinking that she could hang with Jenna Ortega? that?s funny. I can actually picture their conversations and vibe together. Amy looking at Jenna with those wide eyes, thinking that Jenna is the coolest girl in the world. And Jenna is probably like? Amy should come to the club!

Here are some early photos from tonight?s BAFTA red carpet. Here in America, the BAFTAs air on BBC America hours from now, at the same time as the Grammys. It sucks. But I?ll stop complaining about it, because look, we get to see the fashion so early!! Amy Adams has been nominated across the board, at every major awards show, for her role as Lynne Cheney in Vice. She?s not going to win sh-t, but all of us Amy Adams fans have made our peace with it. What do you think of her Prada look? I like the rich burgundy shade and I don?t mind the business on the shoulders. I also like that she did a gaudy brooch. The thing I don?t like here is the satin this dress would have been beautiful in a fabric that was more matte, you know?
Lily Collins in Givenchy. I would actually love this if the bottom matched the top if it was a sleek gown with a matching high-collar jacket. As it is, I only enjoy the top part and I think the skirt is an absolute tragedy. (The color is fantastic though.)
Lucy Boynton in Dior, good lord. The terrible dress is nothing compared to BRIGHT Pink EYE MAKEUP. Why is this a thing? Why do women in 2019 want to look like heroin addicts?
Someone named Edith Bowman wore this hilarious mess. This fills me with joy.

| Amy Adams in a peplum?d Celine at the SAGs: lovely & perpetually snubbed? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I don?t think it?s going to happen this year for Amy Adams. This year, Glenn Close is the ?she?s been around forever, give her the Oscar? nominee. Amy can?t even win that title, of the Most Deserving And Perpetually Snubbed. To be fair, Amy seems okay with it. For now. She?s been nominated across the board for Vice this year, and she was at the SAG Awards last night. She watched as Emily Blunt won the SAG for Supporting Actress for A Quiet Place (Regina King wasn?t nominated). Amy went out of her comfort zone with this look a black Celine gown with a very puffy peplum. There were a lot of ?structural? looks on the SAG red carpet, and this was a lower-key version of the trend. I honestly don?t hate it, but she could totally do better.
Here?s Rachel Brosnahan in Dior this is very low-key, right? I think the hemline is throwing me off it looks more like a really nice summer dress than a gown for the SAGs. I feel like I would like this so much more if it had spaghetti straps and an extra three inches on the hem.
Yara Shahidi in Fendi. This is perfect for her, and perfect for her age (18). It?s a high-fashion look, but it?s also so, so fun.
Here?s Hugh Grant and his girlfriend/baby-mama/wife Anna Eberstein. I totally forgot that they got low-key married last year.
Mandy Moore overdid the bronzer, but her Boss (Hugo Boss) dress was honestly one of the better looks of the night. Very clean, simple.

I just adore Amy Adams. Despite my job, I always feel a little silly adoring people I?ve never met. It doesn?t stop me from doing it, it just makes me feel silly. So, as you can imagine, when I hear good news about Amy, it makes me giddy. According to In Touch, Amy is expecting her second child with husband Darren Le Gallo. Amy and Darren are parents to seven-year-old Aviana. Darren and Amy are both 43.
In Touch is exclusively reporting that Amy Adams is expecting baby No. 2 with husband Darren Le Gallo, 43.
?Amy?s been keeping the news hush-hush, but she?s pretty far along. The buzz is that she?s having a boy,? a source exclusively reveals. The insider adds that Amy, 43, and her hubby ? who are already parents to Aviana, 7 ? have only shared the news with family and a few friends.
?Amy?s very private and doesn?t like drawing attention to herself. But she and Darren are both very excited.? And Aviana ?can?t wait to be a big sister,? says the source, ?and have a little playmate!?
[From In Touch Weekly]
After staring at the American Cinematheque photos that CB posted from November for an inordinate amount of time, I cannot for the life of me see any kind of baby bump. However In Touch says that she’s far along and suggests that they know the sex of the baby. If this is true, if we are to be blessed with a new little Le Gallo then huzzah! The more of Amy in the world the better. Being a Capricorn myself, I?m hoping the new arrival can hold off until he/she can join our ranks.
I don?t know how this escaped me but Amy Adams is playing Camille in the film adaptation of Gillian Flynn?s Sharp Objects. And Patricia Clarkson plays Adora ? oi! Amy and Patricia will be amazing together. I was kind of meh on the book but I think I might be looking forward to the movie, based on these first look photos.
Speaking of Amy?s films, I finally saw Justice League. Just for context, I really wanted to see it. Although Amy and Diane Lane were greatly underutilized, I really enjoyed the film. It?s not perfect by any stretch but I was thoroughly entertained. I think I might even see it again in the theaters.

Amy Adams, who still hasn?t won an Oscar, was presented with an American Cinematique Award over the weekend honoring her work in film. She’s 43, which surprises me as I still think of her as five years younger, and has been nominated for an Oscar five times. She’s being compared to Leonardo DiCaprio (pre 2017) in that she seems well overdue for one. In fact she was robbed of even a nomination this year, for Arrival, while Meryl Streep was nominated for her goofy role on Florence Foster Jenkins. I guess the academy just really doesn’t like or get science fiction.
Anyway Amy was honored last night by her costars for her huge body of work. Tom Hanks introduced her and made a questionable joke about not auditioning in hotel rooms, which was uncalled for. Too soon. Other than that it sounds like a nice night for her. In her acceptance speech she said she liked movies because they make her feel like she’s dreaming. As a movie lover I could relate so much to that.
Adams was introduced by a string of A-list collaborators, headed off by her ?Charlie Wilson?s War? co-star Tom Hanks, who was in a particularly playful mood.
Hanks? introduction took the packed audience inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel ballroom along the ?butt-kicking? adventure of Amy Adams? career, going all the way from her brief stint working at Hooters to the wide-reaching Hollywood success she?s achieved today, through a ?struggling actress in Hollywood montage,? which concluded with a brief Harvey Weinstein-

| Amy Adams in Tom Ford at the Oscars: poorly fitted or glam? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Do you guys remember when Amy Adams was nominated for American Hustle circa 2014 and she wore several low cut dresses? There was the theory that she was cosplaying her character’s 70s style and that was definitely possible, but she actually kept it staid at the Oscars that year, I just checked. (That was the year that we lost Philip Seymour Hoffman, it doesn’t seem that long ago at all.) So when Amy came out on stage in this low cut sequin Tom Ford gown I was reminded of her fashion three years ago and thought that this isn’t all that different really. It’s kind of boxy but I see the craftsmanship in the gown. It wants to be high glamour and it’s so close but the cut is wrong.
Amy of course starred in Ford’s Nocturnal Animals, which should have been nominated in a few more categories this year instead of just Best Supporting Actor for Michael Shannon. That was a really well crafted and engaging film, although I wish it tied up more loose ends. (I leave it at that in case you haven’t seen it yet.) Amy also got robbed by not being nominated in the Best Actress category for her work in Arrival, she should have had Meryl’s place. The Academy really doesn’t like or recognize scifi movies.
These are pics from the Vanity Fair Oscar party! We’ll be covering that in a bit, we’re just getting through the ceremony photos now. Her styling is really gorgeous, right?
Presenter Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, which isn’t even out yet) was in Chanel. Cinesnark tweeted that she liked this dress and at first I agreed with her, the mirrored sequins are cool, but then I did the scrolldown as the ladies at Go Fug Yourself call it, and it’s got a tiered feathered hem! There’s no transition between the end of the sequin and the feathers either, I don’t get it.

Also this is what Kaiser means when she says “bangs trauma.” I am more accepting of bangs in general but this is like “mom gave you a kitchen chop job”

Tony winner Cynthia Erivo was in Paolo Sebastian. My first impression is to say this is too busy and frou-frou but I like that she went with a big dress with an embroidered pattern, this was unique and I don’t remember seeing anything like it last night. The pattern is over the top but she’s owning it, it’s not like the dress is overwhelming her like I imagine it would do on so many other actresses. That said, it totally looks like a tablecloth.
Leslie Mann was in yellow Zac Posen and I appreciate that this gown has a gorgeously intricate huge folded skirt, holy crap it was high drama on screen when she was presenting. My first impression was “fug” though when I saw her on the red carpet. It’s that goofy knotted bow that makes it look like Disney cosplay. Picture this without the bow and it’s so much better.

Amy Adams was nominated for best actress at the BAFTAs, for Arrival, a category for which she was robbed of an Oscar nomination this year. She was also supporting her Nocturnal Animals director, Tom Ford, who was nominated in his category. Those categories went to Emma Stone and Damien Chazelle for La La Land. (I don’t get it, but my sappy friends who are so in love and post their entire relationship on Facebook love it. I guess romantic people think it’s adorable.) So she wore Tom Ford and the result was – not good. This looks like something Ford would make for Julianne Moore. It’s a sack of a dress, there’s some weird stuff hanging off the back and it’s not flattering at all. From the front it’s just a plain straight strapless gown with a green velvet border, but check out the back. It’s got mesh, a velvet ribbon and it’s gathers around her bottom in a way that looks like an afterthought.
Here’s Bryce Dallas Howard in Solace London. I really dislike this extremely deep v-neck dress trend, but as far as that style goes this isn’t bad. This is sexy, it’s glamorous, and I like how she chose to accessorize with some simple bangle bracelets and killer earrings. Bryce looks great but she needs to stop with the injectables as she’s looking a bit pinched. She was there with her dad, director Ron Howard.
Thandie Newton is really slaying this awards season, just by being Thandie. She’s the real standout on Westworld and her career seems to be on an upswing. There’s news that she’s in talks to join the Han Solo movie, which would be a great idea. She was wearing Osman and I don’t know if I like this huge curtain of hair she’s sporting but look at this gown it’s so elegant. I love the very feminine pointed bustline and the little embroidered flowers sitting daintily on one side of the waist. This is stunning.

I?ve been thinking a lot about sympathy this week and where sympathetic coverage is applied. Should Melania Trump be seen as a sympathetic figure? That?s still up for debate in my mind. But Amy Adams definitely has my sympathy. She works hard, does consistently great work, starred in two of the best films of the year, and on Tuesday, her name was not called. She did not receive an Oscar nomination for Arrival or Nocturnal Animals. Many believed Amy would be and should be a major Best Actress contender for Arrival, a film which actually picked up nine Oscar nominations overall, just none for the actors. Many believed that Amy is more than ?due? ? she?s already been Oscar-nominated five times and never won.
What I like about Amy is that she doesn?t complain. If this had happened to a dude, we would never hear the end of it. But these photos are of Amy and her husband Darren out and about just hours after the nominations came out. She was back to work later on Tuesday too, attending the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Conversations event, which involved a discussion about her career and performance. The Daily Mail wrote about her appearance here ? they make her sound like the saddest sack in the world when really she was just doing her job.
Her Arrival director Denis Villeneuve ? who was nominated for an Oscar ? namechecked Amy in his ?reaction? interview too. He told EW: ?This is the big disappointment. I?m deeply disappointed for Amy. She was the soul of this movie. For me, it was a given! She had the movie on her shoulders, she?s the one who made it happen. It?s a strange feeling to celebrate and feel sad at the same time.? Yeah, pretty much. Hollywood made a big-budget alien drama movie with a female lead and then every dude involved with the film was nominated and they snubbed the female lead.
Here are the photos from the SAG-AFTRA event. She looks fine. Maybe a little bit sad, but? here?s the thing. She WILL have another shot. And now people are being reminded that she?s absolutely due. So while I do have sympathy for Amy, I also want her to hold her head up high and keep doing her great work. She?ll get that Oscar at some point, probably sooner rather than later.

| Amy Adams in Marchesa at the NBR Awards in NYC: lovely or meh? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Last night, the National Board of Review Awards went down Cipriani?s in New York. The NBR Awards always seem like such a nice event ? the awards are announced a month in advance, and no one shows up in a gown or anything. Amy Adams was the surprise Best Actress winner at the NBR Awards, ?surprise? in that I thought they would give an award to Natalie Portman or Emma Stone, but no. Amy won for Arrival. She wore a cocktail dress by Marchesa and? yeah, no. I was going to say that this isn?t too bad for a Marchesa dress, but it?s still not good. It looks cheap, those sleeves are a mess and the skirt should have been straight and fitted.
Here?s the frontrunner in the Best Actor race and the NBR Award winner for Best Actor for Manchester by the Sea, Casey Affleck. No one is scandalized by sexual harassment and general grossness if you?re white and well-connected, people.
Mahershala Ali didn?t win Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight, although he should have. He was just there to support Moonlight, which picked up some other awards. Mahershala looks hot in that suit and patterned blouse!!
Naomie Harris won Best Supporting Actress for Moonlight. She wore this Brandon Maxwell jumpsuit which? I like? It?s simple and almost elegant.
Greta Gerwig wore velvet Prada. Eh. It?s difficult to wear velvet to an event where you know you?re going to be photographed, and it?s even harder to wear patterned velvet in a weird shade of clay/bronze. Meh on this.
Maggie Gyllenhaal in Marni. Wow, I love this. It?s a great dress and it looks amazing on her.
Riley Keough in Dolce and Gabbana. Ew. I think the bows are throwing everything off, right?

| Amy Adams: ask producers about the wage gap, I don't want to be a headline | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
During the Sony hack it came out that Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence made significantly less than their male costars on American Hustle. Hustle.Upon realizing that pay discrepancy affected actresses of their caliber, other actresses, like Charlize Theron, used this information to negotiate equitable pay. Some celebrity women have been comfortable talking about it, like Jennifer Lawrence, who penned an excellent essay about the wage gap and how that affects all women. Jessica Chastain has also discussed the wage gap. Other celebrities are not as open about it, and that’s their prerogative. Adams hard works to fly under the gossip radar. She was once rumored to have been denied a Today Show interview when she indicated she was unwilling to discuss the Sony hack. Earlier this year she did an interview in which she explained that she’s not comfortable talking about it. (Although did make it clear that director David O. Russell was not easy to work with and that he made her cry most days on set, so she’s not always mum on controversial subjects.)
Adams was part of The Hollywood Reporter?s actresses roundtable discussion along with Taraji P. Henson and Isabelle Huppert, 63, a prolific French actress.During the interview, Adams discussed pay equality in a roudabout way.
Q: In France and England, there seem to be much better roles available for women over 40. Is that true?
HUPPERT Hmm ?
Q: You’ve played some great roles.
HUPPERT Yes, but before 40 and after 40 ? but I never felt underemployed because I wasn’t 30. In fact, I remember when I was 30, I stopped working for a certain time in France. It happened because it happened. It was regardless of any question of age.
Q: Why did you stop working?
HUPPERT I didn’t stop working, but I had less work to do in my country and I did more films out of my country. I’m embarrassed to answer this kind of question because I find it misogynistic.
ADAMS Who you should be asking is the Producer Roundtable: “Do you think minorities are underrepresented? Do you think women are underpaid?” We are always put on the chopping block to put our opinion out there, and that question is never asked. I’m like, “Why don’t you ask them and then have their statements be the headlines in the press?” I don’t want to be a headline anymore about pay equality.
HENSON That’s why I changed what I was saying, because they expect it: “Do you think it’s hard for African-Americans?” “Oh, yes ?” (Laughs.)
ADAMS I agree with you. I think the real question should be asked of the people who make those decisions.
[From The Hollywood Reporter]
She’s not wrong. When producers and directors are asked why they don’t have equal representation of women or people of color in their films they often tell the truth, that they don’t think it matters. Some even suggest they find it offensive that they’re being asked about it, effectively sending a warning to journalists not to broach the subject, lest they be shut out of future interviews. So withthe issue a hotbed in the press and the people responsible for the situation refusing to loosen their grip on the subject, the burden yet again falls to the people who are affected by it. And every time they do, they, who risk angering bosses who already believe that they should be marginalized and paid less. It?s great that actresses are speaking out about the discrepancy in any way they are comfortable. But Adams is right, let?s start making those responsible the headline instead of those affected.
