| Evan Rachel Wood: 'I didn't know that you could be raped by your partner' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Evan Rachel Wood has only recently been open about being a victim of domestic abuse from a intimate partner. She just started talking about it this spring. While its clear who her abuser was as shes mentioned the timeline and we know who she was dating then, she says she cant name him. Shes since become an activist for domestic abuse survivors. Evan has an interview with Self thats from a few weeks ago but Im only seeing it now. Shes so upfront about what she went through and how she internalized that abuse. You can see that interview here and Ive included some quotes below.
I didnt realize that I was being abused. I thought that I was being strong with a complicated person. I want to name them, but I cant. I think domestic violence is so normalized that I couldnt see a crime being committed. I was so young. I didnt know that you could be raped by your partner. Even if I did know that I dont think I would have thought that anybody would ever believe me, because how do you prove that?
Part of the conditioning when youre in that relationship is believing that its your fault and that youve done something to deserve this. What people dont tell you is theres a period when everything is fine and this person is treating you like a princess and theyre luring you into this illusion of safety and stability. Then something happens and its shocking and you feel like what happened, this person that I love that is so nice just did this and it was so out of character it must have been me.
[From Self interview on YouTube]
The rest of the video interview with Self is quite good. She talks about her bisexuality and how coming to terms with that helped her body image. Up until recently shed been trying to live her life to please everyone else, especially her partners, as she thought thats what you were supposed to do. I think a lot of women can relate to that.
Evan has a new interview on The Tonight Show where she said that she wrote and helped pass a law in California called the Phoenix Act which extends the statute of limitations on domestic violence felonies from three to five years. This law passed last month but Im only hearing about it now. She really got to work on this issue and thats impressive.
Evan is in Frozen 2, the movie that needs zero promotion. She told Fallon it was her dream to do a Disney film and that she sang her songs from Frozen 2 to her son Jack, 6, every night. Her son was so familiar with the music that when he saw the movie he thought they had animated his bedtime routine. Thats adorable! I really like Evan, I appreciate how upfront she is and am so happy to see her kicking ass.

| Elsa Pataky: Liam Hemsworth 'deserves the best' I think he deserves much better' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

During Miley Cyrus?s on-and-off relationship with Liam Hemsworth, there were some blind items painting a particularly sleazy picture of her relationships with Liam?s brother Chris and Chris?s wife Elsa Pataky. I never believed the blind items. I don?t think Miley was particularly close to Chris Hemsworth and Elsa. Maybe the Hemsworth family always knew Miley was trouble, or maybe they were just like the rest of us, and could only take her in small doses. In any case, I think that when Liam spent time with his family, he tended to, like, not bring Miley along. For a reason. So? is it off-side for Elsa Pataky to slide in a little insult at Miley now that Liam is finally 100% done with her?
Liam Hemsworths sister-in-law, Elsa Pataky, has sensationally claimed the actor deserves much better than his ex-wife, Miley Cyrus. The Spanish model, who is married to Liams older brother, Chris Hemsworth, broke her silence on the split during a press conference in Madrid this week.
My brother-in-law, well? after a relationship that youve dedicated ten years to, hes a little bit down, but hes coping well, hes a strong boy and he deserves the best, she said, according to Hola! Magazine. I think he deserves much better, the 43-year-old added.
Speaking about Liams relationship with her husband, she continued: You always find support in your family, and hes joined at the hip with [Chris], who has been there to give all the strength he needed.
[From The Daily Mail]
I mean? she sounds like she cares about her brother-in-law. She sounds like she?s just hearing his side of everything. But? having covered the breakup drama for months, I sort of feel the same way as Elsa. Of course Liam?s not perfect and of course they were dumb kids and they mostly just grew apart over time. But Liam definitely deserved better, in general.

| Dolly Parton on advice: it's not right to try to tell somebody else how to live their life | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Dolly Partons Heartstrings is out on Netflix today. Each episode is inspired by one of her songs, and Dolly is appearing in each of the eight episodes, according to IMDb. Dolly has been giving interviews ahead of the shows launch. One of the things that she told Robin Roberts in an ABC News Special was that she sees herself as a kind of mother or aunt figure to todays younger artists. She tells them shes proud and that you can do it and youre doing great. Dont expect that Dolly gives them advice, though. She tells People why she refuses to do that:
You cant really give advice, the country legend, 73, says in this weeks issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. Like I say, I have information, but its really not right to try to tell somebody else how to live their life
I was advised by a lot of people how I was doing things wrong when I came in, she continues. I thought, ?How can I do things wrong when its about me? I will know it if its wrong. I will know it because Im that in tune with myself and that in tune with God. It may not always turn out right from me, but Im still safer in doing what feels right in my gut and in my heart. Thats why I say its not advice. There are things that I say, ?You dont need to ever do this. But we know what those are anyway. If someone just point blank asked me something, Ill give them my take on it. But I still aint going to advise them.
Dolly talks about her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, and how she doesnt give Miley advice, either:
Ive told [Miley] some things that I think are valuable and that she uses, but Id rather live an example, she says. [I'd rather] be an example rather than just try to tell somebody to do this, do that because I dont think thats right. Everybodys different. Youve got your own journey. And some people are going to help you along the way and they can kick a few rocks out of the road for you, but you got to walk it.
During a press conference held at her Dollywood DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to promote Dolly Partons Heartstrings in October, Parton told reporters that shes proud of Cyrus, 26, for doing her thing.
[From People]
I understand why Dolly doesnt want to give advice: She got a lot of bad advice when she was starting out, and decided that if she trusted herself and God, shed be fine, and thats worked out for her. So, she knows better than most people that its possible to get terrible advice from well-meaning people, and she doesnt want to steer anyone wrong and give them advice that wont actually help them. Since she lives an example, as she calls it, other people can perhaps take a decent guess at what advice Dolly would offer them, based on how shes lived her own life.
On the other hand, I can see people who love and respect her really valuing her take and advice on certain situations. Heck, Id love her advice, for that matter. If I were Miley, Id probably be calling her often to ask for all sorts of advice, because shes Dolly-freakin-Parton, and my godmother. But, Dolly is an icon who can do as she pleases, so if that means not giving advice, so be it. I do appreciate that she doesnt want to be overbearing and start every sentence with, Based on my long, successful career, if I were you, I would She knows that will grate, and so she wants to avoid it. I just feel that, given her decades of experience in the music world, she probably wouldnt give anyone bad, useless advice. Oh well. Well all be left wondering, WWDD? Im going to try to binge Heartstrings this weekend, and cant wait. (Im going to assume that shed at least tell me to do that, if I asked.)

| Mandy Moore stopped eating gluten, dairy, soy and more on functional doctor's advice | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Mandy Moore is having a great couple of years and I, for one, am very happy for her. Obviously, she has her hit show, This Is Us, she married a neat guy, fulfilled her dream to reach basecamp on Mt. Everest and produced new music for the first time in ten years. During that time, Mandy also finally spoke out about the abuse she suffered during her relationship with ex-husband, Ryan Adams. So she?s sorted out many areas of her life that weren?t in order. This, apparently, included her diet. While promoting her partnership with the wellness brand, Nature?s Way, Mandy discussed making significant changes to her diet based on the advice of a functional doctor.
She has a hit show, a happy marriage to Taylor Goldsmith and new music, so it?s no surprise that Mandy Moore is feeling on top of the world.
?I feel so grateful for where I am in my life personally and I feel very fulfilled and very satisfied,? the This Is Us star tells PEOPLE. ?[In our 20s] we all have to suffer through bouts of self-doubts and self-criticism. But none of that matters. All you?re doing is wasting time and energy when you could be pouring it into something way more productive.?
?I feel better at 35 than I did in my 20s. I have a very healthy relationship with my sense of self and with my body,? says the actress.
In addition to changing her mindset, Moore switched up her diet. ?I try to make a good point of knowing what I?m putting in my body because I understand the connection with how I feel,? she says.
?I went to a functional medicine doctor and figured out things that are definitely not making me feel great. Random things like cow?s milk, gluten, salmon, soy and apricots. I took them out of my diet and it?s made a world of difference. I have more energy; I don?t have that fog and my digestive issues have pretty much resolved themselves.?
[From People]
I had to look up what a functional doctor was and learned that a functional doctor practices functional medicine, duh. According to The Institute for Functional Medicine?s website, FM is, ?a systems biology?based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease.? So FM falls under the holistic/alternative medicine approach to health. Doing a quick check internet search, I found that many traditional medicine doctors don?t care for it. The main issue I found for their dismissal is that FM uses unproven theories in their approach. A few major medical organizations have denounced it. However, many practicing FM have medical degrees and their theories are science based so I think FM should be treated as any medical advice ? do your homework before pursuing and a second opinion is always a good idea.
So Im not dismissing Mandy employing a functional doctor to sort herself out, but that diet sounds miserable. It was the apricots that got me. Apricots, specifically apricot jam, is very high on my list of things I love most in the world. I generally have some form of apricots in my home at all times. But I?ve also come clean on how much I resist being told I can?t have something. If I?d been given this advice from a functional doctor, my internet search would have been less ?is functional medicine legitimate? and more ?why are functional doctors so mean to me?? But, it?s working for Mandy so that?s what?s important. Generally, when someone makes significant changes to their diet, they feel different. I?ll be interested in seeing if she sticks with this restrictive nutritional guidelines but it sounds like she?s reaping the benefits for now. However, I guess when Mandy invites me over, it?ll be BYOA (bring your own apricots).
