A few days ago, Katy Perry confirmed that she?s going to be a judge on the newly rebooted American Idol, which will be on ABC now (not Fox). While I don?t watch those singing competition shows, I know that it?s a good move for many rock stars and pop stars to sign on to judge those things. Jennifer Lopez?s judging gig on the now-defunct version of AI revitalized her career at the time. Blake Shelton is now a massive country-crossover star because of his gig on The Voice. Gwen Stefani?s career has been revitalized too, and on and on. So, I don?t hate that Katy Perry negotiated her way into a historic paycheck for the new AI: she?s apparently getting $25 million to be the competition’s lead judge. TMZ reported that Katy had ?all the leverage? because ABC needed a huge name to announce ahead of their Upfronts, and that Katy rejected an offer of $20 million before ABC pleaded with her to take $25 million. For comparison, J.Lo got $15 million a season when she was on AI. And Katy?s proud that she negotiated her way into such a great paycheck too. When asked about it during a radio interview yesterday, this is what Katy said:
“I’m really proud that, as a woman, I got paid. And you know why? I got paid like more than like pretty much any guy that’s been on that show. And, by the way, I love men. So I’m a paid woman and I’m ready for a beautiful man. I really wanted to join this show at the right time. I always have. We’ve always been in negotiations for several years?it’s never been right, but now when they kind of like brought it to a new home?it’s perfect. I’m going to be the same judge I’ve always been and I’m not judgy. I [give] constructive criticism. The reality is I am polite, but firm and I am super realistic.”

I?m proud of her for getting paid too. Good for you, Katy. My first reaction was to wonder how many dudes she has negotiating on her behalf, but that?s neither here nor there. Katy would have been the one to decide to walk away when they offered her $20 million, and she was probably advised by her manager and lawyers and everybody that she should just accept their offer.
Also: the conservative media is having a field day with another interview from Katy, where she was asked about the Manchester terrorist attack. She said:
“I think the greatest thing we can do now is unite as people, as fan bases, all of it. Whatever we say behind people’s backs, the Internet can be a little bit ruthless as far as fan bases go but I think that the greatest thing we can do is just unite and love on each other. No barriers, no borders, we all just need to co-exist.”

As I said, conservative media is in full meltdown mode because she dared to say ?no borders.? Like, Katy is not an elected official. She?s not running for office. She?s not advising any elected official. She?s a pop star reacting to a terrorist attack at a pop music concert and she?s trying to offer a message of peace and coexistence. And now she?s going to have to deal with a million Russian-bot MAGA Twitter accounts screaming at her for days.

So upfront, I like Kate Mara. But I’m always so woefully behind on all things Kate Mara. Like, I remembered that she hails from an American football dynasty, but completely forgot that that she was engaged to Jaime Bell. Or that they were in Fantastic Four together. Honestly, I kind of forgot there was a second F4 movie, having just (ill-advisedly) watched the first one about a month ago. Anyway, they are engaged and planning their wedding, I guess? There aren?t any details so this might be a forever engagement for all I know. However, we do have details on one thing ? their romantic origins. Kate appeared with Hillary Swank on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and someone from the audience began their question with, ?we know you met on Fantastic Four? ? and Kate said no, that’s not where they met. Not only was that film?s set not their first encounter, it wasn?t where they fell in love either. Everything we?ve known about this couple is a lie!

Mara, 34, and Bell, 31, starred together on the 2015 filmFantastic Four, but actually met years earlier.
“We didn’t meet on Fantastic Four. We met like 10 years before,” Mara explained. “We did a screen test together and we had to kiss and it was very ? I had to kiss many guys that day for the screen test.” (Spoiler: Neither star landed the job!)
TheHouse of Cardsalum and Bell would go on to play Sue Storm and Ben Grimm, respectively, inFantastic Four. Sparks didn’t fly until they were off set, though.
“We fell in love on the press tour,” Mara revealed on Monday.
In August 2015, the pair appeared onWWHLtogether with costarsMiles TellerandMichael B. Jordanto promote the film. At the time, Mara chose Bell to marry during a round of “Marry, Shag, Kill” between the three men. Nearly two years later, the coupleannounced their engagement.

Hollywood is such a surreal environment. ?How?d you meet Mom?? ?I kissed her before we were introduced but it was so bad, we both lost the job. Then we got another job and got married.? When Kate was talking about not falling for each other until the promo tour, Andy immediately claimed to be the reason they fell in love, for the WWHL appearance referenced in the article. He told Kate, ?Oh my God, you’re going to be celebrating your Andy-versary soon,? which, possibly because the world sucks right now, I find incredibly endearing. I can never tell if I would be best pals or frenemies with Andy (yes, I categorize my imaginary relationships with celebrities). I think I would be friends with Kate and Jamie, though. They seem sweet. Quiet, but sweet – and quiet is cool because that means I get to talk more.
I can?t wait for Kate?s Chappaquiddick to come out. Kate plays the lead role of Mary Jo Kopechne. It’s about time Mary Jo is portrayed as more than just ?the death that brought down Ted Kennedy.?

Here are some photos of Brad Pitt in Tokyo this week, promoting War Machine. Facially, this is the best he?s looked in awhile, right? Brad has lost a lot of weight in the past nine months or so, and you could really see the weight loss on his face. But all of a sudden, his face looks a bit tighter. Hmm. Good night cream or did Brad get a little tuck? Who knows?
Brad actually had a rough week last week. He was mourning the loss of two friends, Brad Grey and Chris Cornell. Pitt and Cornell were apparently friends for years, and they had kids the same age. As for Brad Grey? Grey completely changed the trajectory of Pitt?s career. There might not be a ?Brad Pitt? as we know him without Brad Grey. According to sources, Brad was ?devastated and in shock. He is trying to process the loss of two great friends. This has hit him very hard. With Brad Grey, Brad Pitt was one of the few people who knew he was sick. Grey was told he had a few weeks to live, but he didn?t even get that long. He was gone way too soon.?
As for Pitt going all the way to Japan? I realize that I don?t 100% understand the economics of Netflix (I don?t even 50% understand it), but is it necessary to do an international promotional tour for a movie that will ONLY premiere on Netflix? I?m really asking. It?s not like there will be international box office receipts, and it?s not like Japan is a strong potential audience for a movie about America?s military overreach (Japan has been there, seen that and gotten the t-shirt). Granted, I think Brad went to Japan because he?s a huge movie star and he always gets a good reception in Japan, and why not? He probably went to Japan as a way to visibly support Netflix in general. He?s been saying words about how, without Netflix, ?this movie wouldn’t have been made? and it?s a ?risk? that most studios don?t want to make.

Last night, the Cannes Film Festival did a HUGE 70th anniversary event, and basically every major star who was anywhere near France came out for it. There are tons of good fashion photos, so we?re spreading out the pics into a few posts. This is Nicole Kidman in Armani Prive. Something nice: I?ve enjoyed how Nicole hasn?t just stuck with one designer. She?s been wearing a variety of stuff and everything looks very different, from slinky Versaces to ballerina Calvin Kleins to ruffled Diors. This Armani gown isn?t what I would have chosen for her, but it?s not bad. The worst thing I can say is that Kidman?s hair has been struggling throughout the film festival. It should not be this hard, Nic!
Marion Cotillard also wore Armani, like Kidman. This is maybe the most va-va-voom I?ve ever seen her look. Damn, she looks amazing.
?What would Beyonce look like if she tried a Hasidic Jewish hairstyle?? is what Rita Ora asked herself Tuesday morning. I swear, when I first saw these photos, I was like ?damn, what happened to Beyonce?? Nothing happened to Beyonce. Rita is just cosplaying Bey.
