I keep thinking that this George Clooney-Julia Roberts movie is called Ticket to Ride, but no, it?s Ticket to Paradise. Should it have been called Ticket to Ride, and maybe they could have licensed the Beatles? song? Hm. Anyway, after promoting this film for more than a month, the cast came together last night for the big Hollywood premiere. Julia Roberts did something new for this promotional tour: she wore a girly dress. She?s been doing tons of menswear-inspired looks for her appearances, and she?s stayed very covered-up in almost boxy, shapeless looks. Now here she is in the Barbiecore trend, wearing a Greta Constantine gown. While I love seeing Julia try the Barbie-pink trend, this dress is bad! The taffeta, the sleeves, the stupid ruffled skirt. It?s too ?prom dress? for 54-year-old Julia. I also think it?s sort of interesting that Julia?s husband Danny Moder hasn?t come out for ANY of the premieres. They generally don?t do red carpets together, but still. PS? Julia?s earrings are Chopard and they are SPECTACULAR.

| Julia Roberts in Thom Browne at the Academy Museum gala: too staid or elegant? | Added 796 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Ive read Kaisers coverage of this event, the second annual Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala, and shes reminding me that its the beginning of Oscar campaigning season. So many big names came out so were splitting our fashion coverage into a few posts. First off is Julia Roberts, looking very staid in a long Thom Browne gown with a bustier, a jacket draped over her shoulders and a long sleeve striped blouse underneath. It might look OK without the dickie thing at the top and with different styling. Julia looks off somehow with her hair like that. Im trying to tread lightly here, which is a key component of my job.
Selena Gomez was in an excellent black Armani tuxedo pants suit with chandelier earrings, sleek hair and understated makeup. I love this look on her. Shes been knocking it out of the park recently.
Keke Palmer was whimsical in an oversize black Act No. 1 suit with a blue ruffled tulle overlay that looks like a gown shes in the process of stepping out of. This is goofy but if anyone can pull it off its Keke.

| Julia Roberts wore a Louis Vuitton tuxedo-jumpsuit in Cannes: cute or ugh? | Added 946 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are more photos from the Cannes Film Festival, from Thursday?s red carpets. At first, I only saw Julia Roberts from the waist up, and I thought it was cool that she wore a suit. But then I saw the whole look? my God. This is Louis Vuitton and it?s my sad duty to inform everyone that LV is back to fking up everything. This isn?t even a suit, it?s a jumpsuit!!! It?s all one piece, with built-in ?tails.? It?s so unflattering. Julia has a nice figure too it?s not difficult to find flattering clothes for a tall, lanky woman. You have to TRY to fk it up. That being said, I have felt that Julia?s current stylist (whoever she?s been using in the past five years or so) kind of hates her.
Deepika Padukone in Louis Vuitton. The color is gorgeous on her. The dress is pretty, but it would have been so much more sophisticated without the peplum.
Rebecca Hall in Gucci. Hall is there as a member of the Cannes jury, btw. That?s why we?re getting so many photos of her. This was a good look, honestly. I don?t hate it. Julia should borrow Rebecca?s stylist.
Alessandra Ambrosio in Stephane Rolland. Hilariously bad, offensively cheap-looking.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a custom Gaurav Gupta. I mean? the idea of it is fine. Big, sculptural couture on a beautiful woman. The execution though? yikes. The wave/pattern of the fabric is kind of unflattering and I?m not sure pale pink/lilac is Aishwarya?s best color. Still, it was a moment.

| Julia Roberts in Stella McCartney at the Globes: flattering or fug? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Wow, Julia Roberts certainly looks? um, fresh? Freshened, perhaps. Her skin is tighter now than it was when she was in Steel Magnolias. I honestly didn?t even recognize her at first, although looking at her more closely now, you can tell that it?s a combination of things a dark tan and a brassy hair color to camouflage the subtle new work on her face. Julia?s pantsuited ensemble is Stella McCartney. You guys now how I feel about Stella?s work, but I tend to think this is? okay? It?s certainly flattering, giving Julia an illusion of a very weird hourglass figure. But if you look at the pieces separately, you can see that the trousers are actually terrible.
Honestly, Dakota Fanning was one of my picks for best dressed. I know we?ve seen this style of Armani gown on other women in other years, but it?s a classic cut done well, and it looks amazing on her.
I truly didn?t notice it last night, but Glenn Close wore one of the most amazing sack dresses OF ALL TIME. Angelina Jolie is so jealous that didn?t think of literally wearing a black sack with arm and neck holes to an awards show. Glenn?s sack dress is Armani. She got to sweep her sack dress up to the stage when she won Best Actress in a Drama. I wish we had a good cutaway to Gaga at that very moment.

| Julia Roberts: Rom-coms 'just don't work at a certain point of life experience' | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m trying to remember when I last watched a romantic-comedy from start to finish. Did Destination Wedding count as a rom-com? It was billed as a rom-com but it was a lot darker than traditional rom-coms. To be fair, few people are writing rom-coms and few people are making them. Everything is superheroes and historical bio-pics these days. Oh, I just remembered: Begin Again, with Reese Witherspoon. I watched that and it was? okay. Sometimes I do need something lighter, and sometimes I just want to see two pretty people fall in love. But if anyone out there is still writing rom-coms, don?t ask Julia to play one of the roles. She thinks she?s too old for them.
Julia Roberts built her career starring in some of the most enduring romantic comedies of the modern film era. However, fans shouldnt hold their breath when it comes to seeing her starring in any in the future. ETs Keltie Knight spoke with Roberts in Los Angeles on Sunday, where the Oscar winner was promoting her upcoming drama thriller series Homecoming, and she admitted that she feels shes had too much life experience to convincingly star in a rom-com at this point.
Unless we [play] the parents of the people that are rom-com-ing, Roberts, 50, explained. There came a point in my career where people thought I had turned on romantic comedies, which I love them, I love to be in them, I love to watch them. But sometimes, they just dont work at a certain point of life experience.
For Roberts, the disconnect comes when the audience doesnt believe that the actors in the film arent naive and emotionally juvenile, as the characters in rom-coms tend to be to allow for the zany situations and farcical hijinks inherent in the genre.
Its not about age, its just about what people know that you know, Roberts explained.
[From ET]
I sort of understand what she means once you get past the headline of ?Julia says she?s too old for rom-coms.? It?s not that she?s really too old to play a romantic lead, it?s that the handful of romances written these days are for younger actors, and Julia would look like an ahole if she was still doing sh-t like Runaway Bride (which I hated then and I hate even more now). Whenever people talk about ?oh, rom-coms don?t work at this point,? I always point out that Mindy Kaling expanded her love of rom-coms to a TV show - The Mindy Project which sort of redefined rom-coms for me because that show was so smart. There were hijinks and zany situations, but there was an emotional core, a romantic center. I hate to admit it, but if Mindy Kaling wrote an adult rom-com for Julia Roberts, I would watch the sh-t out of it.

| Julia Roberts in Givenchy & Dsquared2 at her TIFF premieres: tired or lovely? | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This weekend, the Venice Film Festival was winding down as the Toronto International Film Festival was just getting going. So these are photos from the mountain of TIFF premieres from the past three days. Julia Roberts was doing double-duty this weekend, promoting both Homecoming and Ben Is Back. Julia is back! Or something. This is her premiere look for Homecoming a Givenchy tuxedo jumpsuit, with some kind of cape? It?s not my favorite thing, but she looks mostly good here. I wish she and Nicole Kidman would stop with this too-light strawberry-blonde shade though.
Julia wore Dsquared2 to the Ben Is Back premiere. She?s lost weight. I like the subtle cutouts.

| Julia Roberts in Armani at Cannes 'Money Monster' premiere: fab or drab' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This promotional whirlwind around Money Monster is actually Julia Roberts? first time at the Cannes Film Festival. I was worried that she was going to wear wall-to-wall Givenchy and it was going to be an unflattering array of zoot suit onesies and Kardashian-esque nude netting. But Julia called in some favors and actually turned up at last night?s premiere in a GREAT Armani Prive gown. Julia goes back a long way with Armani, so I don?t know why I didn?t realize that she would be able to call in some favors and get a great gown. This is one of my favorite black gowns thus far from Cannes ? it?s got a great cut, it?s flattering, she?s not tripping over a too-long train (hey Amal).
What?s even better about this look on Julia is that she actually tried! I can?t remember the last time I saw Julia on a carpet and thought, ?Yes, she actually took some time in hair and makeup.? Plus, that emerald necklace from Chopard is everything. That?s a great statement piece. *goose honk*
There are tragically no solo photos of Caitriona Balfe in her wonderful Louis Vuitton gown. This, along with Julia?s Armani, was one of my favorites.
Eva Longoria wore another Pamella Rolland Fall 2016 for her second night on the carpet. I think it would have looked better without the fabric ?belt? effect.
I don?t really know why Susan Sarandon is only doing suits and menswear-inspired pieces at Cannes this year, but sure, I?ll take it? I guess. The thing is, there are so many great women?s suits and tuxedos these days. Why go for this 11-year-old Jean Paul Gaultier suit that looks totally ?80s?

| Julia Roberts on equal pay: 'For me it was, why not get paid this amount of money?' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Julia Roberts is promoting Secret In Their Eyes, which I keep having a brain-fart about and I?m continuously referring to it as The Secrets In Her Eyes or The Secrets of the Eyes. I?m just saying, the name is not great nor is it particularly memorable. Julia has a new interview with the New York Times and while I?m ordinarily on Smug Watch for Julia, I have to say? I enjoyed this piece. Not in a ?Julia patronizingly goose-honks at everyone? way, but in a genuine, she?s-a-good-interview sort of way. Here are some highlights:
How she chooses roles: ?I?ve always been pretty picky? it just has more to do with a combination of picky and the school calendar and my husband?s work schedule.?
She considers herself on the fringe of Hollywood: ?I don?t know the players and the temperatures of everything, what movies are doing well and not doing well. There?s not quite enough hours in the day to keep up with all that.?
Why she enjoys working with Danny Moder: ?We trust each other? It?s not just, you know, make me look 30 in every room in the house. We want to show the truth of the character.?
Getting more complex with age: ?You?re drawn to things as an actor that have as much of an arc as possible. I don?t know how much resolve I had or could portray when I was 20. I think it?s a kind of a gift that comes with age, that you get more complexities to play.?
She loves romantic comedies: ?People say, oh she?s against romantic comedies ? I?m not. I love them. I?ve been fortunate enough to be in some really good ones, so the bar for me is really high. Also, it?s hard to find a true original idea of a romantic comedy for a 47-year-old person, that?s going to be funny and realistic and relatable. I?m totally open to it. I would love to read a good romantic comedy.?
On equal pay & being the first actress to command $20 million a film: ?Well, I think it does this [seesawing hands], and then we kind of go, O.K. we?re fair, we?re good. And then it?s like, not so much. For me it was, well, why not get paid this amount of money, equal to my peers and male counterparts? Barbra Streisand was a real pioneer in that, I look to her, or Faye Dunaway. If you?re talking about what people perceive you can accomplish, if you can open a movie, then that?s that, but if it?s just based solely on your gender, I don?t really get that. But I don?t make the rules?.I?ve done my best, sort of forging my path and standing up for myself. And whatever ripple effect might come from that, I couldn?t really say for sure. It?s so funny that this is still the topic. Any of those things that try to herald women at the same time almost perpetuate the problem, because you?re saying, ?All hail the women directors.? Well, they?re just directors. They?re just fabulous directors. For me, I?m a creative person, it?s about the part and not losing the part but seeing how far you could push the business side of it. But I would never have risked the creative side of it for the business side of it.?
[From The NYT]
The last part really interested me because while Julia was completely a pioneer in how women were paid in Hollywood, she wears it lightly. She doesn?t see herself as an equal-pay pioneer, possibly because not that much has changed after her glass-ceiling-breaking, and possibly because she never wanted to become the spokesperson for those issues. It seems like she?s saying that the Hollywood pay scale should be meritocracy in addition to equality too, right? The way she talks around the issue, I?m sort of glad that she?s not putting herself out there as the spokesperson for equal pay. And hey, at least she?s not saying ?That?s not my job.?

| Julia Roberts Plants a Sweet Smooch on David Letterman | Added 9 years ago | Source: Celebrity Gossip |

His time as the host of ?The Late Show? is coming to a close, and David Letterman enjoyed one final interview with his perennial favorite guest Julia Roberts last night (May 13).
The ?Pretty Woman? actress was all smiles as she engaged in playful banter with Dave, who hinted that he had a special clip of their interactions over the years. ?We have videotape of our life together?? asked Roberts. Letterman replied, ?I think so, do you want to see it?? Julia eagerly answered, ?Yes!? and Dave declared, ?All right, let?s see it.?
What followed was a montage of Julia and Dave kissing each other every time Roberts came on the show. And when all was said and done, Letterman led Roberts out to the center stage for a wonderful embrace and, yes, another kiss!
