In celebrity medical news, Jessica Simpson’s quarterback beau Tony Romo gave everyone quite the scare as he collapsed in the shower following a season-ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday evening (December 28).
According to Dallas Morning News reports, Cowboys players started “yelling for help and pushing back reporters” after Romo suddenly collapsed - most likely as a result of a rib injury that occurred late in the game.

Cate Blanchett is one of the many Hollywood actresses who claims to shun cosmetic surgery. But unlike many of the others, Cate definitely hasn?t had any. She says that her husband would divorce her if she did. Cate has a really beautiful way of viewing the body as it ages, and talks about the history that?s shown through the changes. There is a real depth and passion to what she says, and she makes some great arguments about loving what you?re given.
Cate Blanchett tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Leslie Bennetts that in terms of plastic surgery, “I haven’t done anything, but who knows. Andrew said he’d divorce me if I did anything. When you’ve had children, your body changes; there’s history to it. I like the evolution of that history; I’m fortunate to be with somebody who likes the evolution of that history. I think it’s important to not eradicate it. I look at someone’s face and I see the work before I see the person…. You’re certainly not staving off the inevitable. And if you’re doing it out of fear, that fear’s still going to be seen through your eyes. The windows to your soul, they say.”
“I’m not a spokesperson against the world of injectables,” Blanchett tells Bennetts. “If you grow up in an environment where your mother gets you a boob job when you turn 18, what hope is there? But I didn’t grow up in that world. The reason I went to train as an actor was that I was interested in it for the long haul. You can become very self-obsessed, but you’ve got to keep looking outward.”

I?ve always had this thing about preferring vintage and antiques to modern, mass produced stuff. My reasoning was that I liked that my things had a history to them. It had never occurred to me to perhaps view myself in the same way, but that?s exactly what Cate’s talking about. I think there?s a simple beauty to that. It?s not just about acceptance, it?s about appreciating the way parts of your story are told by the changes in your body.
Cate?s previously mentioned that she thinks people get plastic surgery out of “self obsession” and “fear,” noting ??Look at a man or a woman in their 50s and all I see when they have brushed their years away with surgery is self-obsession and fear. That?s not particularly attractive.?? Of course when you have a face like Cate?s, it is probably a little easier to be accepting.
I understand why people want to look better as they age, and I think it?s hard for many of us not to keep track of the changes in our face as they appear. I?m not sure that I?d go so far as to say it?s self obsession, but I think it can show a lack of acceptance. But give me ten years and I might be singing a different tune.

Tom Cruise has decided that he wants ten children. That?s right; he wants to add seven more to his brood. The church of Scientology is already excitedly adding up the potential income in its head. Tom recently told The Sun what a great dad he is, and how much he loves kids ? which is why he wants to have so many of them. Tom came off as a little braggy at times, but certainly nothing compared to a few years ago. And he managed to remember to include his adopted children in the same breath as his biological one, instead of mentioning them as a mere afterthought like normal.
WATCH out, BRAD and ANGELINA. Tom Cruise is aiming to beat you ? not at the box office, but with a bigger brood. When it comes to large celebrity families, the Brangelina clan?s score of six kids is tough to beat. Cruise, though, reveals that he would like to have TEN.

And his youngest is clearly a great joy to him. Of Suri, he says: ?She?s so charming, she?s so beautiful, she?s just great.? The hard-working actor, 46, is often seen out with Suri and Katie. And he tries to make sure he spends as much time as possible with his kids.
It is, he admits, a reaction to being brought up without a father figure from the age of 12. His dad ? Thomas Cruise Mapother III ? split from his mother Mary at that time. Tom says: ?I?m a great parent. I want to be with my kids, and they get to do all the stuff that I wanted to do when I was growing up. My own father wasn?t there much for me and I want to be a different dad to my kids. My family is the most important thing in my life.?

I don?t give Tom credit for much, but it is clear his family is the most important thing in his life, even though it could be said that it?s obsessively so. But considering how many people seem to pop out kids and then spend the next 18 years practically ignoring him, in a way it?s nice that Tom is so into his family. But it?s also easy to imagine that such excessive attention might lead to spoiled kids ? even if he does end up with ten of them.
Just two weeks ago Matt Lauer asked Tom if he was going to have more kids, to which he replied, ?I think that?s a question for ?the women.?? It sure seems like he got that question answered quickly ? and then bumped one up to seven. Tom does seem like the sort of guy who goes all-out, whatever he does. I guess it?s no surprise that kids aren?t an exception.

She was last seen making out with “Gossip Girl” actor Ed Westwick at a Kings of Leon concert, but that seemed like more of a publicity stunt than anything else. Now it looks like Drew is getting chummy with another young actor. Drew was spotted singing karaoke and getting touchy-feely with “How I Met Your Mother” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” star Jason Segel. TMZ has a video of the pair singing “Rainbow Connection” from The Muppet Movie. I’ll say this: they’re no Kermit the Frog.

“Drew and Jason were obviously dating because they were kissing and touching each other throughout the night,” a source told Usmagazine.com.
So are Barrymore and Segel a couple?
Following their alleged makeout session, the two saw a cabaret show at L.A.’s Dresden Room on December 20.
“They’re just friends,” Elayne Roberts - a club performer who sat with them that night - told Us. But a source said, “They’re friends with a little benefits,” adding, “It’s not serious.”
Segel’s rep said, “They are friends, simply.”

Not bad, but my karaoke version of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is far superior! Seriously, though, a Drew-Jason pairing could be a good match. But then, I thought the Drew-Justin pairing was adorable. I wonder if she’ll ever settle down. But then again, the last time she got married, it was to unfunny comic Tom Green- maybe that scared her off from long term commitments forever. It would sure work for me.

We were pretty suspicious of the last photos of Daniel Craig with his friends on the beach in St. Barts. Everyone was eating and carrying around Frito Lay potato chips and it looked like one of those covert ads.
Craig, 40, was photographed with his friends on the beach again yesterday. He was seen snuggling with his girlfriend, producer Satsuki Mitchell, 29, and holding hands with his teenage daughter, Ella, from his marriage to actress Fiona Loudon. If the group was contractually obligated to munch on a certain brand of packaged food during their much-documented vacation the seem to have met their responsibilities as there weren’t any chips around them yesterday.
I still think that it’s no coincidence that the paparazzi knew where to find Craig. There are plenty of hot beach photos of the star for a reason. Craig’s next film Defiance with Liev Schreiber is out in limited release on December 31. The two star as Jewish brothers who escape from Nazi occupied Poland.

Rachel Ray was featured on the cover of “Modern Dog” Magazine with an accompanying article promoting her new pet food line, “Nutrish.” Inside there was also a recipe from Rachel that looked like it was a pet food recipe. She called it “Isaboo’s Butternut Squash Mac and Chedder,” named after her pit bull Isaboo, who loves squash. The only problem was that the recipe contained onions, which are completely toxic to dogs and cats and can kill them. It was intended to be a people food recipe, but was not labeled as just for people, was misleadingly named after her dog and seemed like a recipe specifically for dogs.
The recipe is still on Rachel Ray’s “Everyday” Magazine website under a “Pet Friendly” header and accompanied by a photo of her dog looking like he’s chowing down on the dish - which again contains onion:
To promote her “Nutrish” line of dog food, the super chef recently published a recipe that’s intended for human consumption in a popular dog lover’s magazine. The recipe, “Isaboo’s Butternut Squash Mac and Chedder” was inspired by her pit bull Isaboo’s love of squash. But readers were confused and believed the dish, that included an ingredient that could kill dogs, was mean for their dogs.
Nowhere in the dog magazine did it state that the recipe was intended for humans, not dogs. And the text accompanying the recipe contained a disclaimer warning owners to check with their dogs’ veterinarians, again leading many to believe the recipe was for dogs…
Dr. Dana Harman, D.V.M., of Boca Raton, Fla, explains that onions can cause “potentially fatal hemolytic anemia” in dogs.

“Modern Dog” has since added a mild disclaimer to the website about how the recipe was intended for people but the amount of onion wasn’t that much anyway. The commenters are upset, though, and say that “Modern Dog” should have known better than to present a dish containing onions as if dogs could eat it. They also say that while Ray may be a dog lover and does promote shelters, she’s openly talked about getting her dog from a breeder.
Hopefully no pets were harmed by Rachel Ray’s misleading recipe. The Rachel Ray people really need to change their website soon, so that no one else makes it for their dog thinking it’s ok.

I’ll believe it when it’s confirmed. These two don’t strike me as the type to be able to amicably plan out a date to announce their separation. You would think they would struggle to make it work for a while longer before setting a date seven weeks in the future to go public with the news. Maybe they’re living apart or something at this point and see it as a way to make a clean break. It’s surprising they’ve lasted four and a half years as it is.
The National Enquirer claims on the cover of the latest issue that “J.Lo’s Husband Runs to Ex-Wife” with the subtitle “secret night in hotel after marriage explosion.” Their only evidence is the news that Marc was at his ex’s house “until the early hours of the morning” and then stayed at the Four Seasons afterwards - by himself. He has two children with his ex wife Dayanara and it’s possible he was visiting them. If everything was well with Lopez though he probably would have returned home afterwards as Dayanara is said to live “nearby.” He also flew to NY for a little partying the very next day. Trouble seems to be brewing between these two whether or not they’re officially planning to split in February.

Seriously on the day of love, they will declare they are divorcing. That sounds odd, but it would totally be hot!!! I would pay to see that, but instead I will watch it on YouTube over and over again if it happens!!!

Star Magazine claims that plastic surgery victim Tara Reid had her rehab stay at Promises completely comped by the facility in a publicity attempt. According to Star, Promises hasn’t had a high profile client in some time and put the word out that someone could stay in their plush facility for free in exchange for a press release. With an on-site gym, jacuzzi, pools, and gourmet chef it’s more like staying at a high end spa and Tara probably welcomed the all expenses paid sober vacation. That’s not to say she didn’t need it though:

“Enrollment is down due to the bad economy, so in an effort to drum up publicity, they asked around Hollywood to see who wanted to stay there for free,” says a source. Promises, which costs about $1,600 a night and has treated such celebs as Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, is giving Tara the VIP treatment. The 33 year-old gets to stay in a large room, and her incoming packages are not searched, like other guests.

In Touch has a “Rehab Expos” story this week that relies heavily on quotes from Brandon Davis about how cushy rehab can be for celebrities, and how they’re given special treatment not afforded the other rehab attendees. They quote Tara’s rep as saying that her super expensive stay at Promises was paid for by her parents and there’s no mention of it being comped. According to Wikipedia, Tara is from Wyckoff, New Jersey, an affluent suburb. Her parents are teachers who own a day care center. It’s possible they’re wealthy if they run a large and/or exclusive day care.
Whoever paid for Tara’s rehab, the important part is that she’s getting sober. If she had some encouragement and the whole thing was an arranged publicity stunt then at least she took the bait and is working on conquering her addictions.

Tom grins: “I want ten children. I love kids. I feel really fortunate to have the teenagers and a two and a half-year-old. It’s a great dynamic.”
I am not sure who I see is less keen on giving Suri 7 more siblings…Katie Holmes or Suri? I doubt Katie would want to go through that procedure again and again; and I don't think Suri wants to share her clothes and toys or anything with them.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bunchen aren?t engaged. According to his family he hasn?t mentioned it at all.
Tom reportedly proposed to Gisele on board a private plane, where he presented her with four dozen white roses, champagne and an engagement ring in front of her parents. Tom?s father and sister say that he isn?t the kind to make a gesture of that nature.
Brady’s father, Tom Brady Sr., told The Boston Globe on Friday that reports of his son’s engagement were “rumor, rumor, rumor … We don’t know a thing about it. Nobody told me. We talked to him and there’s nothing to say.”
The Boston Herald reported that the couple strolled down Bean Town’s Beacon Street on Friday ? and that Bndchen, 28, was without an engagement ring.
Bndchen’s twin sister, Patricia, also denied the report, saying in an e-mail that the engagement story ? which first surfaced on TMZ ? is “not true.”
Reached by People, Bndchen’s rep declined to comment. Stacey James, a spokesman for the Patriots, responded, “I heard the report that he [proposed] on a plane, but I don’t think it’s true.” Still, he added, “Tom keeps his private life private.”

Tom began dating Gisele in 2006, shortly after his then-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan announced she was pregnant with their son.
Since these two have been dating for more than five minutes, they have been dogged by wedding rumors. They were spotted ring shopping, they got married last March, or that Tom has proposed but won?t be announcing it until the off season for his team. Gisele was photographed on Friday without an engagement ring, so I?m fairly certain this is again rumor, put out there by a rival football team to distract from the Patriot?s big game, the last of the season, against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
While neither Tom nor Gisele?s rep has confirmed or denied the engagement, I think we can clock this one up to another rumor.
Note by Celebitchy: Brady’s team the New England Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills 13-0 on Sunday, but are still out of the playoffs this year. Brady has not played at all this season after suffering an injury during the first game in September.

Kate Winslet sat down for a lengthy interview with The Guardian a few weeks ago to promote her two new films, The Reader and Revolutionary Road. The parts about Revolutionary Road were a lot of the same quotes she?s been giving over and over… but the part where she and The Guardian journalist get into the plot of The Reader and the main crux of the film?s ?love story?, Winslet turns a little weird.
Does Winslet feel that she’s a feminist? “I think I probably am, aren’t I?” Her assistant hurriedly adds, “In a loose, unofficial kind of way,” but Winslet continues to ponder. “I think I probably am. I mean, not in a bra-burning way. But I think I am a feminist, yeah.”
I am relieved by the ease of this exchange, contrasting, as it does, with our shaky opening conversation about her other new film, The Reader. Directed by Stephen Daldry, with a screenplay by David Hare, this is an investigation of guilt and complicity in postwar Germany. It is based on the bestselling book by Bernhard Schlink, and begins in West Germany in 1958, with Winslet playing Hanna Schmitz, a 36-year-old woman who had served as a concentration camp guard, and who starts an intense sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy.
I tell Winslet that I have read that she likes to sympathise with her characters. “When did you read that interview?” she says. “Which interview was that?”
I gulp, “Well, it was pretty recent - I don’t know, there have been so many.” She agrees. I start to ask whether she was able to find any way to empathise with Schmitz, given the character’s Nazi past, and the fact that her life includes this relationship with this young boy, which, I suggest, by modern standards, would be considered paedophilia on some level. She recoils. “I think you should be careful with that word.” She gives an unconvincing laugh.
“But do you know what I mean?” I say.
“No, actually, not with using that word, I don’t.”
Even given the fact that he’s 15?
“No, I don’t. Not to that extent, no, I have to say, I have to be very, very honest, you know, I think that it’s a very dangerous word to use - that applies to pre-pubescents. Let’s bear in mind that this boy turns 16 in the story, and that’s legal marriage age. And Hanna is led to believe he is 17.” (I didn’t notice this in the film - it’s possible I missed it.) “And the actor himself, David Kross, is 18, you know, he’s an adult.”
I agree and explain I am only talking about her character. She continues. “No, I never, to be honest with you, as a character, and as an actress - obviously the relationship is unconventional, because there is a big age gap between the two of them, and that was how I felt as a person, and I always very much viewed it as an unconventional relationship in that way, and very much as a love story.” She talks a little more about Schmitz, and about the character’s personal secrets, which provide the twists in the narrative, and then, unprompted, says: “You really have to remember that one of the greatest loves of my life, when I was younger, was 13 years older than me, and I was with him for five years, and then he died [I assume she is referring to the writer/actor, Stephen Tredre], and there were 19 years between my grandparents - so, I don’t know, maybe I’ve just never thought age gaps were wildly important.”

So I actually went to my dictionary and looked up ?pedophilia? (the Americanized version) and the definition is simply ?sexual perversion in which children are the preferred sexual object?. It doesn?t give the ages of what?s generally considered childhood, so I suppose we must look to legal and societal definitions. In my mind, fifteen is too young to be considered an adult legally or sexually.
Another point that goes unspoken is the reverse sexism of this specific issue. If this was a story about a thirty-something man engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, we would be hearing a lot more - and by more, I mean condemnation and protests. But because the film is about an older woman seducing a young boy, it?s somehow ?art? beyond reproach? Is it somehow ?feminism??
I have always loved Kate Winslet as an actress and as a celebrity - she?s insanely talented, interesting, eccentric, down-to-earth and funny. But I think she does a disservice to the under-aged victims of sexual assault and rape by playing these word games. I hope that as she promotes The Reader in the coming weeks, she clarifies this issue.
