For years, there were rumors about Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell. Rumors that they were dating, rumors that they spent a lot of time together filming Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, rumors that they broke up after things went south. While I believed that Hayley and Tom could be doing a showmance for movie-promotion and just general professional reasons, I never believed that they were actually dating or having a real romance. Well, as Hayley promoted this MI movie, she?s talking about those rumors and more. She also confirmed to the Independent that she is engaged? to Ned Wolfgang Kelly, a songwriter/composer. She wore her engagement ring during the interview. Some highlights:
The truth about the Tom Cruise rumors: The truth, Atwell tells me, is that she looked on Cruise and Mission?s director, Chris McQuarrie (or ?McQ?), as ?sort of two uncles?. And who doesn?t love seeking advice from their uncle about the fact that the world thinks you?re courting? ?I would be like, ?Ooh, there?s some weird rumours, and it feels base, it feels a little dirty, it feels grubby, it?s not what I?m about,?? she explains. ?Why are things being assumed or projected onto me about my relationship with my work colleague and boss?? Atwell found it ?upsetting? because ?it?s involving people in my actual life, my personal life, who have to be on the receiving end of that. It becomes invasive.?
Tom?s reaction to the romance rumors: But Cruise, who Atwell says ?carries his fame like a loose garment?, knew exactly what to say. ?When I?ve talked to him about it, he?d be like? ? here she turns to me intensely and looks directly into my eyes ? ??You know exactly who you are. You know what you?re about. And that is the only thing that matters. It doesn?t matter what people think of you, if you are in integrity with yourself, if you know what your value system is.?
What she really thinks of Tom Cruise: ?I truly feel you could meet him and go? ? here she affects a voice of dry cynicism ? ??He?s nice; he?s charming; he?s charismatic; he knows how to make people feel good about themselves. So that?s just a tactic for total manipulation, because he?s probably just an egocentric.?? She rolls her eyes. ?Or whatever bulls*** people want to make up about people. But over time, you?re just watching him, going: he really works hard, he really cares, he?s really interested in people and wants to engage with them, and he believes in the power of cinema as much as he did when he was five years old.? Going into the franchise, she says, he made her feel ?safe?.

Yeah? so that?s it. I believe her, I guess. I believe that they didn?t have a romance or showmance, but even despite her protests now, I do think she probably sort of enjoyed the buzz. I mean, there was gossip about Tom and Hayley for years and neither of them addressed it before now. Now, I also think it?s funny that she called Tom something akin to an ?uncle.? Granted, age-wise, that is what he would be she?s 41, he?s 61. But Hayley calling him an uncle just highlights the age difference. Anyway, I think Tom has basically given up on romance or whatever these days, he?s just all about the work, all about the grind.

Over the weekend, one event got the biggest A-listers in attendance. Not the coronation the Miami Grand Prix, F1?s takeover in America. While Tom Cruise pretaped a little thing for King Charles?s coronation concert, Cruise showed up in person in Miami. Tons of celebrities and athletes were there, including tennis players like Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro. Ludacris was there, LL Cool J was there, Nick Jonas was there. Shakira was also there following her split from Gerard Pique, she has now moved permanently to Miami and she will raise her sons there. So she came out to enjoy some racing. Which is how Shakira ended up spending some time with Tom Cruise, and now we?re getting the obligatory rumors about how Cruise wants to date Shakira.
The race is on ? for single Shakira. After Tom Cruise and the ?Hips Don?t Lie? singer were photographed hanging out together at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami over the weekend, a source exclusively tells Page Six: ?He is extremely interested in pursuing her.?
?There is chemistry,? says the source.
Cruise, 60, is single and Shakira, 46, split from her longtime boyfriend Gerard Piqu, 36, last June amid allegations he was having an affair with his now-girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.
?Shakira needs a soft pillow to fall on, and that could be Tom,? says our source ? adding that Cruise has the benefit of being, ?a nice-looking guy, and he is talented.?
The source also cracked, ?And she isn?t taller than him.? Cruise is 5-foot-7 while the pop star is 5-foot-2.
A source tells us that Cruise was so taken by the pop diva that he allegedly sent her flowers.
On Sunday, the ?Top Gun: Maverick? star and the Colombian chanteuse spent time together on the race?s starting grid and were seen chatting in a private hospitality suite.

So, I?ve been thinking about this and it actually makes sense from Tom?s side. He previously dated Penelope Cruz and Sofia Vergara, for goodness sake Shakira would definitely ?fit? with his ?type? of Spanish and South American girlfriends. Now, do I think this makes sense from Shakira?s side? No. She needs to have some peace and quiet before jumping into anything with a problematic dude like Cruise. Still, I bet it?s nice for Shakira to feel like men are still interested in her. I bet she liked flirting with him.

I watched the Wimbledon women?s final live on ESPN, with Chris Fowler and Chris Evert doing commentary. In between points, the cameras panned the crowd and Evert exclaimed, ?Wait is that Tom Cruise?!? It was. Tom Cruise was seated in the regular peasant seats as opposed to the Royal Box happily enjoying the women?s final (which was a great match). He arrived at Wimbledon with his Mission: Impossible 7 costars, Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff (a French actress).
There were some rumors or rumor-mongering that perhaps Tom and Hayley are happening. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, for what it?s worth. But Pom was the third wheel? Or were they a threesome so it would just look like Tom took some work friends out to watch tennis? And yes, they are still filming MI7. Apparently, the production was shut down because everybody kept getting Covid, but I?m almost positive that they?re still filming that stupid movie in the UK. What?s funny is that Wimbledon attendees have to wear masks when they?re walking around the grounds, but inside the Center Court stadium, no one has to wear masks. Still, I haven?t heard anything about Wimbledon being a super-spreader site (I think people have to show proof of vaccination to enter).
One of the funniest/dumbest parts about Tom?s presence there was that once people realized he was sitting among the peasants, everyone wanted a photo with him. During Ash Barty and Karolina Pliskova?s changeovers, Tom was standing up to pose for photos for the people seated around him. Plus, all of the Wimbledon social media accounts were making ?mission impossible? jokes during the tennis match. Maybe this was some kind of promotional thing. Weird, but it wouldn?t surprise me.

You guys, they?re still filming Mission: Impossible 7??? That is legitimately shocking. Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures were bizarrely focused on filming the action film throughout the worst of the pandemic last summer, last fall and into the winter. The MI7 production was in Venice, Rome, Dubai and London throughout the last half of 2020. I remember reading stories in December 2020 and January of this year that the production wrapped? Maybe they just wrapped on the parts they were filming in the studios in London. It was back in December that the British papers got the leaked audio of Tom Cruise ranting at crew members for not wearing their masks properly while they worked inside. Following that rant, crew members quit that bitch and yet the MI7 production limped along. And now several people on the production tested positive for Covid and MI7 has halted production.
Mission: Impossible 7 has suspended production due to a positive coronavirus test on set. News of the shutdown was reported on Thursday, in a statement from Paramount Pictures.
We have temporarily halted production on Mission: Impossible 7 until June 14th, due to positive coronavirus test results during routine testing, a studio spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly in a statement. We are following all safety protocols and will continue to monitor the situation.
Its unclear at this time how many people may have tested positive, or when production will resume. A representative for Paramount did not immediately respond to PEOPLEs request for comment. The news comes several months after an audio recording leaked late last year that featured Tom Cruise lashing out at crew members on the set of Mission: Impossible 7 over COVID-19 protocols being neglected.
The big-budget action sequel halted production in Italy back in February 2020 as the coronavirus outbreak began, but eventually resumed in Rome in October. Variety reported that the set was then shut down for a week in October after positive COVID tests.

When I first read the news, I thought Tom Cruise was one of the people who tested positive and I was like ?oh no he?s gonna be soooo mad about that.? Well, they aren?t actually saying he was one of the people who tested positive, but reportedly Cruise is ?fuming? about the situation. Cruise has been forced into self-isolation for fourteen days because he had somewhat close contact with someone who tested positive. Plus, Cruise is just fuming because this production is cursed and they?ve lost so much money in all of these testing and isolating delays. Cruise is going to spend the next fourteen days ranting into a pillow.

We spent last week talking about Tom Cruise, after we virtually ignored him for years. Tom was in the news because the Sun got their hands on a secret recording of Cruise ranting at crew members on the British set of Mission Impossible 7. The point of Cruise?s rant was that crew members were not following social distancing rules and they were endangering the production. It sounded like this was not the first time crew members had broken the rules. The Sun also reported that at least five staffers quit the production following Cruise?s rant. So now, a week later, Cruise?s PR team finally decided to go to People Magazine with their side of the situation. Unnecessary, but interesting.
Although the leaked audio of Tom Cruise yelling at two crew members for reportedly violating COVID-19 precautions during the filming of Mission: Impossible 7 surprised those who listened last week, production sources say Cruise is feeling the pressure of making back-to-back blockbusters amid the pandemic.
?It?s hard to [describe] how incredibly intense and focused he is on making every movie the absolute best possible,? says a U.K.-based production source of Cruise, 58. ?The Mission: Impossible movies are very special to him. They are ?his? movies. Tom helped set up the COVID protocol. Of course he takes it personally when the protocol is broken. In all the years of filming the Mission: Impossible franchise, no one has ever even heard Tom raise his voice. He is usually just laser-focused on filming. This movie is very different though. He has to film while making sure everyone stays safe.?
A separate film industry source notes that Cruise is a perfectionist and he wants others to follow suit. Tom?s whole life is his work. When he sees something less than professional, he wants to make it right.?
Production on the big-budget Mission sequel, which has filmed in Italy, Norway and England, was halted twice this year?in late February at the start of the pandemic and for a week in October after several positive COVID tests among the crew in Italy. Cruise, who also serves as a producer on the franchise, has been heavily involved in the production?s COVID-19 safety protocols to prevent further shutdowns.
He feels the pressure of how scary things look now, the industry source continues. He does not want any further disruption. There is a lot at stake.?

In past posts, I halfway defended Cruise I mean, I don?t like him or support him and I haven?t watched any of his films in years and years. But in a very narrow way, I didn?t think his rant was completely off-base, and I thought it was probably the result of months of frustration of trying to work in these circumstances. But yeah, everything about the situation could have and should have been different. And just because Cruise very rarely loses his cool, that?s not an excuse for him to go full-tilt ranty Scientologist on subordinates.

Tom Cruise is known for going all in on his films, whether it?s some dramatic physical transformation, not cutting the action after he broke his ankle or doing all his own, insane stunts. And all of that provides a certain ?Ah!? factor when watching his movies. The problem is, it gets harder and harder to top yourself. Like after Tom scaled the largest building in the world, where does he go from there? Well, the answer is: space. Space is where he goes next. Deadline broke the news Tuesday:
I?m hearing that Tom Cruise and Elon Musk?s Space X are working on a project with NASA that would be the first narrative feature film ? an action adventure ? to be shot in outer space. It?s not a Mission: Impossible film and no studio is in the mix at this stage but look for more news as I get it. But this is real, albeit in the early stages of liftoff.
There has never been a leading man (Jackie Chan might dispute this) who puts himself at risk as often as does Cruise, in the name of the most realistic action sequences possible. If he is successful shooting a project in Musk?s space ship, he will be alone in the Hollywood record books. Stay tuned.

That was all the information we got. There is some film, whose plot has not been released, Tom Cruise is attached to it and it was being filmed in space. We don?t know if the whole film takes place in space or only a portion. We don?t know why Tom or anyone else is in space. We don?t know if it will be about exploring the next frontier or looking for Xenu. We can assume it will be an action film, but we don?t actually know that, yet. I’m totally okay with “Tom Cruise: Actor.” “Tom Cruise: rationally functioning human being” is where I’m not completely on board. That being said, Tom is definitely pounding the pavement hard for his new flick Jack Reacher: Never Going Back, the sequel to his first Jack Reacher film, which came out in 2012.
I have to give it to Tom, he is able to poke fun at himself, like he recently did on The Late Late Show with James Corden, when he recreated scenes from some of his most iconic films in an array of horrible wigs. I was disappointed he didn’t strip down to his tighty whiteys for the Risky Business nod, because he still looks mighty fine. Should I attribute that to an undying loyalty to Xenu or a great personal trainer?
While on his promo tour for Jack Reacher: Never Going Back, Tom made an appearance on one of my favorite talk shows, the BBC’s Graham Norton Show, with his co-star, How I Met Your Mother alum Cobie Smulders. Graham asked Tom about the possibility of a sequel to one of his most iconic movies, Top Gun, which has been the subject of speculation in the recent past, and Tom replied, ?Yes, we?re discussing it. We?re discussing it. We?re trying to figure it out.” Check out the clip below:
I’m thinking that if the Jack Reacher films continue to make money, we may ever see another Top Gun sequel, as there are already over 20 Jack Reacher novels, which could keep him on screen for years to come. Although, as much as I’m not a huge Tom Cruise fan, I am kind of sad that Boo! A Madea Halloween beat out Tom’s movie over the weekend. Really? I am a firm believer in the concept that lightning rarely strikes twice, and maybe the world isn’t ready to find out what happened to Maverick, Ice Man and the rest of the Top Gun gang. And, as nice as Tom still looks, he won’t ever top his appearance in that volleyball game. Sigh. I think I need a moment…

Did you know that Tom Cruise did a Mission: Impossible movie last year? It?s true! I forgot that it was that recently. Last year, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation came out, and the only reason I remember the name is because I kept misreading it as ?Rouge Nation,? as in there was a nation of people obsessed with blush. Rogue Nation was the fifth MI outing, and shockingly, it made money. The domestic haul was modest, given its $150 million price tag ? it made just shy of $200 million domestically. But internationally, the film made $487 million. So everyone made money on it and it was a ?hit,? and another sequel was completely justified. They?re already in preproduction for a sixth MI film, due to begin production in January. And Tom Cruise just held everybody up for more money. O RLY, Tommy?
A dispute over salary between Tom Cruise and Paramount has halted preproduction on Mission: Impossible 6, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The studio, which was co-financing the movie with Skydance, was in the prep stages for a January 2017 production start and Christopher McQuarrie, who is back on directing duties after reinvigorated the franchise with the fifth installment, is writing the script.
Sources tell THR that one of the contentious points is Cruise’s back-end profit participation, with the actor looking to match or exceed what he is getting paid by Universal for starring in The Mummy, which he is currently shooting in London. Mummy is a pivotal movie for Universal, which is looking to launch a cinematic franchise and has hinged plenty on Cruise?s star power.
This is the second hiccup this summer for Mission: Impossible 6. In July, the project threatened to fall apart over what one source said was script issues. That obstacle pushed a November start into the new year. Paramount initially wanted Mission: Impossible 6 for a late 2017 release but it is currently undated.

Cruise is no longer the biggest, brightest star in the world. He?s still big enough to lead these franchise films that cost $150 million to make, of course. But it seems like he should be counting his blessings that he still gets to work. Plus, Cruise?s notoriously generous back-end deals were one of the reasons why he did alienate some studios, and why it was so easy for them to back away when the couch-jumping nonsense started happening. In his hey-day, when every Cruise film was a major hit, he would end up making tens of millions of dollars on the back-end. Is he still that guy? Eh.

In news that will either excite or infuriate 80s kids everywhere, it seems that the long-discussed sequel to the 1986 hit flick Top Gun may finally become a reality. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer got the internet buzzing about the return of Maverick to the big screen when he posted a picture with Tom Cruise to his Twitter with the caption, “Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend @TomCruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2.”

Oh, for the love of Xenu. Tom Cruise is preparing to promote Mission: Impossible 5, and he’s got a secret plan. Tom noticed those April reports that he hadn’t seen Suri in over a year (and wasn’t planning to do so anytime soon). He didn’t say anything, and he didn’t sue the tabloids again. Not because the new stories didn’t infuriate Tom. The problem was that these stories went down in the midst of the Going Clear documentary madness. Tom dropped into quiet mode, especially after a former Scientology private eye confirmed that Tom bankrolls most of the cult’s dealings.
Tom laid low and hoped all of this would blow over by the time the MI5 tour arrived. It’s true that we haven’t seen him with Suri, partially because Tom got frustrated at the running timelines that popped up in between his ridiculous pap walks. Tom loved using the media to promote his “greatest dad ever” shtick, but he stopped because people called him out on his crap. Radar has a new story that says Tom is ready to appear in public with Suri again, and this reunion will conveniently occur during his MI5 appearances:

RadarOnline.com has learned that the actor is hoping to have his 9-year-old girl accompany him while he promotes his new movie, Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation.
“Tom wants to bring Suri to Comic Con in early July, where he can kill two birds with one stone,” an insider reveals to Radar of the annual convention that takes place in Southern California.
“He?ll get to spend quality time with his daughter, whom he hasn?t seen in months and misses terribly,? continues the source. “They?ll be able to take in San Diego while he drums up buzz for the movie.”

Yeah, nothing says "amazing, devoted father" like the phrase "killing two birds wtih one stone." If Tom was serious about spending time with Suri, he'd do so on an ongoing, casual basis. But we'll never see him taking Suri to school every day for weeks, and he'd never deal with daily parenting tasks. It's all flashy, Disneyland-type appearances for Tom or nothing. Everything he does in his private life is always for the cameras, which is why he can't stop acting either. The dude doesn't know how to be real. If he truly takes Suri along for a bunch of Comic-Con appearances, that would be so transparent.
