Here?s a question I?m sure plagues most brides: is it better to go into space before or after your wedding? So much goes into planning the big day, I?d think a lot of people would opt for waiting to play astronaut until after. But Lauren Snchez is not most people. When others say formal winter attire, Lauren hears uncovered bustier. So naturally the noted journalist, bestselling author, pilot, entrepreneur, philanthropist, chairperson, and future Mrs. Bezos, is going the other way (as in, away from Earth), and squeezing in an aerospace flight ahead of her nuptials. Fresh off of the confirmation this week that Lauren and Jeff are marrying in Venice this summer, Blue Origin (the groom?s company) has just announced their first all-woman space mission is set to blastoff on April 14. How do we know they?re all set to launch? Because they?ve got the official mission patch graphic!
Blue Origin is ready to send several superstars to space.
The launch date for the upcoming flight, which will include Katy Perry, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguy?n, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn and Lauren Snchez, was confirmed this week.
New Shepard?s NS-31 11th human flight will be Monday, April 14.
It will lift off from Launch Site One in West Texas. The New Shepard launch window opens at 8:30 a.m. CDT / 13:30 UTC.
Additionally, Blue Origin released the NS-31 mission patch.
Per the company, a few of the key symbols embedded include:
The target star symbolizes Aisha Bowe?s ambition for setting big goals, passion for STEM, and commitment to inspiring future generations.
The scales of justice symbolize Amanda Nguy?n?s efforts to advocate for civil rights, break barriers, and empower everyday people to create change.
The shooting star microphone represents Gayle King?s commitment to sharing important stories with the world.
The firework symbolizes Katy Perry?s global influence across music, pop culture, and philanthropy.
The film reel symbolizes Kerianne Flynn?s passion for filmmaking, storytelling, and crafting beautiful narratives.
Flynn the Fly, the main character in Lauren Snchez?s bestselling children?s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, is along for the ride. The story is about overcoming adversity, inspiring kids with learning differences to pursue their dreams.

Real talk: how likely is it that the designer of that mission patch got paid an astronomically higher fee than anyone makes at Amazon? Also, ?The firework symbolizes Katy Perry?s global influence across music, pop culture, and philanthropy,? made me chuckle. Why not just say it?s a nod to her song?! Katy was recently confirmed to be on Lauren and Jeff?s wedding guest list, as was Gayle King. So my next question is: is New Shepard NS-31 the bachelorette party? If so, I hope the invites said, ?Will be out of this world!? (I know, I know, I?m hilarious.) In all seriousness, I hope the flight runs smoothly and safely, and that all women aboard make it back in time for the wedding? and the rest of their lives. The recent spate of layoffs at Blue Origin has me worried, which probably won?t go away until after this whole unnecessary joyride once in a lifetime experience is over. And on top of that, the takeoff is in West Texas, currently battling an entirely preventable measles outbreak. The world is so fun right now.

Katy Perry?s latest album, 143, did not land the way she was probably hoping/expecting. She dropped the first single, ?Woman?s World,? in July, with a music video so? let?s say ?extreme,? that she had to immediately clap back to say, ?You guys, it?s SATIRE!? Then she released ?Lifetimes.? Aside from being a big nothing-burger of a song, the filming of the music video may have environmentally damaged a protected Spanish island. Dios mo. And of course there?s the Dr. Luke of it all across the whole album. But you can?t keep a California Gurl down! Katy is set to perform at the Invictus Games this month, and will kick off the Lifetimes Tour in May ? her first North American tour in seven years. And as for those pesky bad reviews 143 got, she doesn?t read them anyway! Thanks to a little advice she got from her therapist:
Katy Perry isn?t fazed by her critics.
Speaking with PEOPLE about her newly announced Lifetimes Tour, which is in support of her album 143, the ?Hot N Cold? singer revealed she does read her album reviews ? but has found it?s best to avoid them all together.
?You shouldn?t read it when it?s good. You shouldn?t read it when it?s bad,? Perry, 40, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
She adds, ?My therapist said something that really changed my life. What anybody thinks about you is none of your business. It?s what you think about yourself.?
Despite any negative reviews, this album is about personal change ? and she hopes it can become ?the soundtrack for anyone?s life.?
?I created this album out of a real shift in my life when I became a mother, and I really tapped into that feminine divine energy. The messages on it are celebratory. They?re about love,? Perry says of the album?s creation.
The ?Dark Horse? performer continues, ?I have an incredible identity that I?ve been able to create since COVID, when a lot changed for so much. So the album really just celebrates love and this unconditional love that I have been looking for my whole life and never really knew it existed. That was a clich, and it?s actually true.?
During an appearance on Call Her Daddy in September, Perry addressed criticism over working with Lukasz ?Dr. Luke? Gottwald ? who worked on some of her biggest hits like ?I Kissed a Girl,? ?California Gurls? and ?Teenage Dream? and was involved in nearly a decade-long legal battle with Kesha.
?I understand that it started a lot of conversations and he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. But the reality is, it comes from me,? Perry said of the producer. ?The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that. One of the writers, one of the producers. I am speaking from my own experience.?

?What anybody thinks about you is none of your business.? That IS excellent advice? And still 143 is not a great album. Both are true! Katy has every right to shield herself from the reviews, but I think it would?ve behooved her to listen to someone, somewhere during the writing and recording process, before 143 was released as it is. And along those lines, was there really no one in Katy?s orbit who cautioned her that working with Dr. Luke was a bad idea? No one? Anyone? Bueller? And her comments on Call Her Daddy were weird, right? She kept harping on the songs coming from her, but I didn?t think the issue was whether Dr. Luke wrote Katy?s songs. It was the fact that she sought out the credibly-accused rapist/abuser as a collaborator to begin with. But I guess what anybody thinks about Dr. Luke is none of Katy?s business.

Katy Perry is kind of over. Her 2024 album, 143, flopped hard. People are mad that she?s still working with Dr. Luke. People have outgrown her pseudo-feminist anthems. But! She?s still one of the most successful pop stars of the past 20 years. People still rock out to her old hits. Well, some interesting news. Katy is apparently the opening act for the Invictus Games next year. Katy and her husband Orlando Bloom are neighbors with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Harry and Meghan even went to see Katy?s final show of her Las Vegas residency last year (a Sussex appearance which enraged Prince William).
Prince Harry has secured the services of his neighbour Katy Perry to sing at the opening night of his Invictus Games. The Grammy nominated star will headline the opening of the event for disabled military veterans in Vancouver, Canada, in February. The 40-year-old is by far the biggest star to appear at the bi-annual event attended by Harry and his wife Meghan.
Perry and her partner actor British actor Orlando Bloom are close neighbours of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in Montecito, California. The couple were among the guests invited to the third birthday party for Harry and Meghan?s daughter Lilibet at their 20m mansion in the swanky Californian enclave favoured by many A-list stars.
The friendship between the two power couples was highlighted last year when Harry and Meghan attended the ?Fireworks? concert in Las Vegas sitting in VIP seats alongside Celine Dion. While Meghan appeared to enjoy the concert body language experts who watched Harry noted that he appeared uncomfortable.

I hope Katy sings some of her old hits at Invictus. ?Firework? or ?Roar? or ?Part of Me.? Like, I just hope that she doesn?t get up there and try to sing her flop single from this year, ?Woman?s World.? It?s really funny that Katy is now tight with the Sussexes, because she also made a point of performing at King Charles?s coronation concert (and she did the most to rizz him up). She was also very critical of Meghan?s wedding gown back in 2018.

In recent months, it does feel like the culture has moved past the need for Katy Perry. No disrespect to her years of pop dominance, but something has fundamentally shifted and what she?s selling currently, no one is buying. And yet, she keeps trying to sell it to us! Katy was invited to last night?s VMAs and she was honored with the Video Vanguard Award. Meaning, she performed a medley of her hit songs, then snuck in a couple of her songs (which everyone hates). If you love sh-t written and produced by Dr. Luke, this was the medley for you.
Before her performance, Katy walked the carpet with her partner Orlando Bloom. She did the ?wetlook/shipwrecked? style which Kim Kardashian keeps trying to bring back. Katy?s carpet look was a fresh-from-NYFW piece from Who Decides War?s Spring 2025 collection. It looks like wannabe Alexander McQueen, right? And dousing herself in baby oil was probably bad for the fabric.

Many of us have been ignoring Katy Perry for years, at least musically. I had to look up when she last released an album and how it did. Her last two studio albums performed poorly Witness (2017) and Smile (2020) barely charted and only sold a small fraction of her previous albums, released during Katy?s heyday a decade ago or longer. It?s not that Katy disappeared she was on American Idol for years as a judge, she got married and had a baby, and she?s spent years cozying up to the British monarchy, even performing at King Charles?s coronation concert. But yeah, people just sort of lost interest in Katy as a pop star at some point, which is weird given her ubiquity a decade ago.
Well, Katy is trying to launch a comeback and it?s not going well. Her new album is called 143, and she?s released the first single and music video. The song is called ?Woman?s World? and it?s absolutely ghastly:
The song itself is just kind of stupid, and representative of the kind of frothy, irrelevant, cotton-candy fuax-feminism Katy pushed circa 2011. The music video is what makes it downright offensive though. What?s worse is the backstory Katy has worked with producer/hitmaker Dr. Luke throughout her career, and she returned to him for ?Woman?s World? and the album. In 2014-16, Kesha went to court to get out of her contract with Dr. Luke, and Kesha made credible accusations that Dr. Luke abused her, raped her and plied her with drugs and alcohol. While Kesha lost many battles, she succeeded in ensuring that anyone who works with Dr. Luke gets a massive sideeye. Singing about bubble-gum feminism while shaking your t-ts and working with a credibly accused rapist is not the way to launch a comeback.
As NBC News notes, even Katy?s true-blue fans are in turmoil about whether to support a song co-written and produced by Dr. Luke. They?re also mad that this rollout is so messy, and that their girl is being exposed as a massive hypocrite. The critical response is already savage too you can read the Guardian?s review here, they called it ?regressive, warmed-over hell.? Other critics have called it a ?stale retread? and ?stuck in 2016.?

While Katy Perry?s music is rarely my favorite, I acknowledge that the woman has some huge hits. Her catalog is extensive and well-known. She performed at the Super Bowl Half-Time show and she had to leave out several of her hits because there were just too many. I?m sure her masters are worth a fortune. So why does it sound like she sold them for much too small a figure? Katy is the latest in a long line of musical artists to sell their masters and catalog to a private-equity firm. The price? $225 million. As I said, it sounds way too low.
Litmus Music, a catalog rights company backed by private-equity giant Carlyle Group LP, said on Monday (Sept. 18) it acquired the rights to Katy Perry?s five studio albums released for Capitol Records, including her Grammy-nominated Teenage Dream.
According to sources, Litmus paid $225 million for Perry?s stake in the master recording royalties and music publishing rights to her five albums released between 2008 and 2020 ? One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, PRISM, Witness and Smile. Litmus declined to comment on the deal terms.
Perry?s catalog sale, finalized earlier this year, follows other 2023 music rights deals like Justin Bieber?s $200-million sale to Hipgnosis Songs Capital, demonstrating that household name artists can still command top dollar even as high interest rates moderate investors? appetites for song rights.
From her breakout single ?I Kissed A Girl? in July 2008 to the five chart-topping songs from 2010?s Teenage Dream, Perry has notched a total of nine No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100. During a musical era that saw major hits from other female pop stars like Lady Gaga, Beyonc, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Adele, Perry remains the first woman and only second artist ever (after Michael Jackson) to send five songs from the same album to the summit of the Hot 100. Those songs are ?California Gurls,? ?Firework,? ?E.T.,? ?Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)? and ?Teenage Dream.?

Billboard also mentioned her Vegas residency, which was pretty lucrative for her $168 million for about four months. Plus, she?s done so many huge tours over the years, although she hasn?t toured since 2018 and now she?s a mom. Oh, and she?s getting $25 million a year for American Idol? My point is that Katy isn?t poor, far from it. We?ve never heard stories about Katy drowning in debt or spending crazy money. She just sold her catalog for no real reason, I guess because they made her an offer. Did her manager not tell her that the bid sounds pretty low?
Maybe Katy decided to pack up her career after the mess at the coronation? I still can?t get over the absolute desperation of Charles and Camilla.

I have a beef with Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. They keep talking about their relationship but then they don?t post new photos on their social or pose together anywhere so I have to keep reusing these same old tired photos from other posts. Work with us people! I still don?t know why they are talking so much about their relationship, or at least Orlando is. Katy?s latest admission at least had some context. While at a cocktail event for American Idol, Katy was noticeably not cocktailing. When asked why, she said she and Orlando were five weeks into a three-month pact of not drinking.

The American Idol judge stopped by a curated cocktail event at New York Citys Mister Paradise on Monday alongside fellow judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and host Ryan Seacrest, but revealed that she would not be partaking for a very special reason.
Ive been sober for five weeks today? Ive been doing a pact with my partner [fianc Orlando Bloom] and I want to quit, she said while jokingly pretending to cry.
After Bryan playfully asked if she was caving, she responded, No, girl! I cant cave. I made a promise. Three months.

Originally, when I read the quote ?? and I want to quit,? I thought Katy meant she wanted to quit drinking. But I see now that probably meant she wanted to quit the pact in that moment. She wanted this story out there so we get to discuss it. (That?s the disclaimer for everyone about to tell me I am making too much of this.) I realize someone was probably going to ask why Katy wasn?t drinking at a cocktail event, so she needed a reason. That in and of itself is unfortunate because we should be able to say ?I don?t want a drink? and have it not be an issue. But she owns a non-alcoholic beverage company, which the bar had on hand. She could have just said ?representing, folks!? and ordered a mocktail. It?s a great message for those in the public eye to be seen drinking mocktails and other non-alcoholic options while enjoying themselves. But Katy made a point of saying she?s not drinking because of this pact and that the pact had a time limit. Which simply invites questions. Like why only three months? Is it a cleanse thing or a we?re drinking too much thing? Theres of course always the pregnancy speculation with a woman not drinking, and the three month time limit plays into that. Orlando cut down on his drinking after it was implied that it led to relationship issues with Miranda Kerr. It?s possible he?s backslid or maybe he wants his fiance to join him in cutting down.

Many celebrity women and many American women in general felt unsettled and angry during this year?s Fourth of July holiday weekend. I certainly didn?t feel like celebrating. There was a real lack of joy and patriotism as American women found themselves second-class citizens, with their lives and families being dismantled by Christofascist authoritarianism. Katy Perry decided to try to say something about the mood. She bungled it.
