In the last few months Reese Witherspoon has slowly started talking about her divorce from Ryan Philippe. Reese never gets into specifics ? I doubt she?ll ever be the sort to air her dirty laundry in public, and that?s good. Though I have to admit I am curious to hear some of it. Elle.com has an interview with her that looks like it?s excerpted from a longer article. She talks about how painful her divorce was, but also points out that if you?re not feeling those sad emotions, you should have never gotten married to the other person in the first place.
On her divorce: ?Very humiliating and very isolating?But, by the way, if it?s not painful, maybe it wasn?t the right decision to marry to begin with. Those are the appropriate emotions. When people get in your face and say, ?This will pass,? you think, Are they crazy? I?m never gonna feel any better than I feel right this minute and nothing?s ever gonna make sense again. And I still have moments where I?m like, Nothings ever gonna make sense again.?
On dealing with the pain that stems from divorce: ?You see a lot of people play this blame game. Blame, blame, blame. You know? And it?s a really easy thing to do, and I?m certainly guilty of it. [You have to] look at yourself and go, ?What part of this do I need to own? Which part of this is my responsibility? And that?s the painful work that you have to go through to hopefully get some real life knowledge out of it.?

Reese also said it was hard becoming a mother at the age of 22. She was away from her family and couldn?t afford help. In past interviews she admitted that getting pregnant is why she and Ryan got married, but it doesn?t seem like she regrets the choice. It sounds more like she regrets that her marriage ended rather than wishing it had never happened at all. There?s a lot of therapy speak in her phrasing, which isn?t surprising. It sounds like she?s done a lot of reflecting in trying to come to terms with her divorce.
There are still a lot of rumors going around that she and boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal are going to get engaged. It seems like Reese will be in a much better place this time around if they do.

We?re not huge fans of Gwyneth ?The Goop? Paltrow here. We never were, but her whole Goop website nonsense (and ridiculous defense of it) didn?t exactly help. She?s so holier-than-thou, even though she?s bland as oatmeal. But Gwyneth has finally admitted that her life isn?t 100% perfect like she?s always trying to play it off to be. She was vague about it, but you can read all sorts of things into it if you try hard enough. And believe me, we?re trying.
Gwyneth Paltrow is finally opening up about her marriage to Coldplay singer Chris Martin. “It’s hard!” she said at the Bent on Learning gala she hosted in NYC on Feb. 25. “Nothing is as good as it looks. Life is complicated, and there are always issues to overcome. Yesterday, he went to Australia, and I came here; you have to accept that.”
The couple, who married in 2003 and have two children, Apple, 4, and Moses, 2, have been rumored to be on the brink of splitting for years. But Gwyneth, 36, maintains that she and Chris, 32, are “very good friends,” and that’s the glue that holds them together. “We’re brutally honest with each other,” she says. “Even if, God forbid, we weren’t together in 10 years or whatever, I think we’re like a family.” But there may be a big fight brewing because Chris is “going to kill me for talking about this,” says Gwyn.

Wait, the possibility even exists that Gwyneth and Chris could be anything less than the marital ideal in ten years? That just blew my mind. I find them each insufferable in their own way, but I think what I most loathe is their whole, ?We refuse to be photographed together? thing. You?re a damn married couple, it?s not like you?re hiding your relationship, right? So what?s the harm in walking a red carpet together once in a while? Their lives really must be complicated if the idea of being arm-in-arm for half an hour causes such anxiety.
Normally I?d say something about how I?m glad to hear their lives aren?t so perfect. But I don?t think anyone ever bought that charade from Gwyneth in the first place. Until this quote she?d gone so ridiculously out of her way to appear perfect and lecture others on how to live. It was too much. You knew she was overcompensating for some hole or defect in her life. Now we just have to get more specifics on exactly what that is.

Paris Hilton must think animals are jewelry. While most girls beg their boyfriends to buy them diamond earrings (or we more down-to-earth sorts just appreciate some flowers), Paris begs her man to dole out ten grand on a dog. And not even a regular sized dog or one that can do magic or something that would make it worth $10,000. We?re talking about a teacup Pomeranian here. That?s like spending $1,000 an ounce.
I don?t really consider tiny yippy dogs to be a romantic present. Did she mistake the Pomeranian for a diamond necklace? I?m sure that on more than one occasion Paris has accidentally fastened a Chihuahua around her neck instead of a strand of pearls, so it?s possible.
So much for inconspicuous consumption. Paris Hilton and her new boy-toy Doug Reinhardt seem unaware of recession-era etiquette.
?Doug bought Paris a $10,000 teacup Pomeranian when they were in Japan recently,? a source told Life & Style magazine. ?And for Valentine?s Day, he bought her an Andy Warhol print of Marilyn Monroe.?
On the heels of a nearly yearlong relationship with Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, Hilton may not be ready to settle down. ?He definitely wants something more with the relationship, but he?s just happy to be with her,? an insider told Life & Style.
In times like these, maybe Hilton should milk this one for all he?s worth.

I?m really confused how minor league baseball player/?The Hills? cast mate Doug Reinhardt could afford to throw away ten grand on a quasi-dog. The Andy Warhol print is debatable, depending on your feelings on pop art. But Paris has dozens of dogs. I?m not even exaggerating to make a point here. She collects animals like they?re size 11 shoes. Animal authorities have been to her home on several occasions ? because she also likes to keep illegal, exotic pets. She once tried to buy a cheetah. Matt Damon is in South Africa filming The Human Factor, the story of Nelson Mandela?s rise to power. Mandela is being played by Morgan Freeman, and the film is being directed by Clint Eastwood, both of whom need an on-set doctor. According to Buzz Sugar, ?Matt Damon will play star rugby player Francois Pienaar who befriended Nelson Mandela.?
While in South Africa, Matt Damon traveled to the border town of Musina, which is now home to thousands of Zimbabwean refugees. Damon was traveling through his association with Not On Our Watch, the human rights group that funnels money to refugees of genocidal warfare and extreme economic instability in places like Sudan, Chad and Zimbabwe. Damon met with many refugees, including several women who were victims of rape and sexual assault. The Associated Press has more:
MUSINA, South Africa (AP) ? Matt Damon listened emotionally as a Zimbabwean woman described how she was raped while pregnant during a perilous journey to cross into South Africa from her troubled homeland.
The Hollywood actor was visiting refugee centers in this border town Tuesday as part of his work with Not On Our Watch, a human rights group he started with other celebrities such as Brad Pitt and George Clooney to draw attention to the world’s suffering peoples.
“I have spoken to so many people who went through so much to get to this point. It is testament to the situation across the border in Zimbabwe,” Damon told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview.
An estimated 3 million Zimbabweans have fled economic collapse and dire humanitarian conditions at home, and Damon said he was “shocked and saddened” by the plight of those he spoke to. He was especially moved by the tale of the 18-year-old woman who was raped.
She said she and a friend bribed a police officer to allow them to cross the border illegally last year and then met a taxi driver who promised her a job. On her first night, the taxi driver took the woman, who was five months pregnant at the time, to a house to stay. A friend of the driver raped her there. “I screamed, no one heard me,” the young woman said, crying as a watery-eyed Damon swallowed hard.
Aid agencies have expressed concern about an increase in sexual violence against women crossing over from Zimbabwe as well as a rise in the number of unaccompanied children making the journey. Many must cross the crocodile-infested Limpopo River and enter South Africa through holes in the fence along the poorly patrolled border, often paying exorbitant fees to unscrupulous guides.
In one camp visited by Damon, about 5,000 Zimbabweans are camped on a sandy patch strewn with rubbish and personal belongings. Some have built makeshift structures out of plastic, and others sleep on pieces of cardboard. There are about a dozen toilets and only a few taps.
Damon, who patiently listened to heart-wrenching stories in the scorching heat, called the situation in Musina “untenable” and said “action has to be taken” by international and regional leaders. Damon is in South Africa making a film directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman as the country’s first black president, Nelson Mandela. He said he hoped to use his “celebrity capital” to raise awareness about Zimbabwe, where a new unity government is calling for $2 billion in aid to help rebuild.

It sounds like the meetings really affected Matt. So many of these refugee ?camps? are little more than a series of tents, and funding for any kind of intensive operation to care for Zimbabwean refugees will most likely be a tough road. Damon is doing God?s work, as far I?m concerned, but I?m sure there will be those who find something to criticize.
On a more positive note, I had no idea that Matt Damon had a role in The Human Factor. I bet he?s really pleased that he gets to work with Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman, and I hope he enjoys himself while he?s there.

For the launch of Andrea Lieberman’s fashion line, ALC, at Barneys, Jennifer Lopez borrowed $50,000 in diamonds from Swiss billionaire Robert Mouawad to glam up her outfit. Several other stars, including Gwen Stephani and Ellen Pompeo, also borrowed jewelry for the event, but J-Lo was the only one who didn’t return her jewels. Mouawad got a call from her manager saying that she wanted to keep the diamonds, to which Mouawad’s people responded, “eh, what’s $50,000?”
“We received a call from [her manager] Benny Medina, informing us that Jennifer was going to keep the jewelry,” an insider said. “As far as Mr. Mouawad is concerned, Jennifer can have whatever she wants, but a premature demand seemed presumptuous.”
There’s no ill will, however. “Mr. Mouawad is the Swiss billionaire who purchased the 60-carat flawless Mondera Diamond for $50 million,” said our source. “He will lose no sleep over $50,000, and frankly, Jennifer’s endorsement is priceless.”
Medina, reached in Santiago, Chile - where J.Lo’s hubby, Marc Anthony, was being honored and performing sold-out shows - told Page Six: “There was no demand whatsoever. There was an offer. It was very clear.” In return for hosting the show for her friend, Lopez would be given the entire collection of jewelry and clothes, he said.
“She was the only celebrity whose name was on the invite. She would have done it for nothing,” Medina explained. “But this was how it was presented. It was quite a generous offer.”

The article is unclear on the timing, but it it seems as if the arrangement was made beforehand, not the next day. Which would mean that J-Lo received the diamonds, as well as the entire ALC clothing line, for one night of hosting. Talk about a free ride.
Somehow I doubt that there was “no ill-will.” Lopez is known for being a diva, expecting what she wants when she wants it. I wouldn’t be surprised if she decided she wanted the diamonds, and that was that - leaving her people to take care of the cleanup. I wonder if Mouawad even knows who J-Lo is. His spokesperson said that her endorsement is “priceless,” but she’s barely on the radar anymore. Her movies are terrible, she hasn’t released a good album in years, and there are constant rumors about her and Marc Anthony breaking up. But I guess when you’re a Swiss billionaire who owns a $50 million diamond, $50,000 here and there really isn’t even a blip on your radar.

Miley Cyrus is getting a ridiculous amount of money for her memoirs, so it’s only fair that she should at least attempt to make them somewhat interesting. In a short excerpt leaked from the forthcoming book, the teen star reveals that she was the victim of bullying - both physical and verbal - by other girls at school in Tennessee.
Miley Cyrus was so badly bullied at school that a cheese sandwich she clung onto for dear life became ?pretty much my best friend?. Now a multi-millionaire TV, music and film star, she says her school days were ?friendless, lonely and miserable? - leaving her in constant fear of physical abuse.
In her new book Miley Cyrus: Miles To Go, the Hannah Montana star talks candidly about the sad memories from her Tennessee high school. She wrote: ?The girls took it beyond normal bullying. These were big, tough girls. I was scrawny and short. They were fully capable of doing me bodily harm.?
One on occasion she was locked in a bathroom by her tormentors and challenged to a fight by ?The Anti-Miley Club?. She said: ?It seemed like Operation Make Miley Miserable was escalating to a new level. More like Operation Take Miley Down.

I’ll tell you what: there’s no amount of money on Earth that would make me want to be a girl in middle school again. Girls today are so much nastier -and at a much earlier age. It’s not clear why, since Lohan spends a lot of time in New York, where her family is based. It’s been rumored recently that she refuses to leave LA unless in the company of girlfriend Sam Ronson, who has her own apartment in NYC as well.

It sounds awesome, but for some reason, I can’t help thinking that Lindsay Lohan’s apartment must reek of cigarettes. It’s practically impossible to get that smell out without some serious remodeling - we’re taking ripping out carpeting, new paint, etc. Anyway, if she put all that equity into it, why would she try to sell it now? In this economy, she’ll never get that asking price. Maybe she really needs money, since she’s not raking in the acting jobs right now.

Poor Mariska Hargitay. The Emmy-winning ?Law & Order: SVU? star has been hospitalized yet again for something involving the mysterious lung problems she faced in January. At the start of the year, Mariska had a collapsed lung, and had to stay in a hospital for more than a week. Nothing was ever reported about exactly what had happened to Mariska. A few weeks after the incident, Mariska was back at work. Now it seems that Mariska is back in the hospital after complaining of chest pains yesterday.
After suffering through a lung that collapsed twice and multiple surgeries earlier this year, it seemed Mariska Hargitay was on the mend, reporting to work on the set of Law and Order: SVU and seeming healthy.
But now an insider confirms to OK! that the actress has headed back to the hospital, perhaps for an ailment related to her previous lung problems, but it is unsure exactly what has her checking in for medical care this time around.
The star reportedly complained of chest pains on the set of the NBC show yesterday and was taken to the hospital.
Co-star Stephanie March told OK! in January that Mariska seemed “strong as an ox” when she returned to the set.

I?m a fan of the show, and I?ve been really disappointed with this season. That is, when new episodes come on. A new episode of ?Law & Order: SVU? hasn?t been shown in weeks. Maybe this is the reason - Mariska is sicker than SVU producers are letting on.
Mariska is an extremely cool actress, mother, wife and women?s rights advocate. I really hope everything turns out okay for her and her health.

But since then, Fox has been seen with Green and even went to his son’s elementary school to visit just days after the alleged split. Green and Fox were photographed together as recently as yesterday, prompting the question: are they or aren’t they?

That’s been the big question since last week’s report that the couple had split. Megan, who’d been living at her fianc’s house up until then, may have checked into a hotel in West Hollywood on Friday, but she was also seen leaving Brian’s house the morning prior.

On Monday night, the twosome were spotted stocking up on groceries at Bristol Farms in West Hollywood.
?They just seemed like a normal couple,? says an onlooker. ?They weren?t holding hands or anything…She was just sort of following him around.?
Then just yesterday, Meg and Brian hit up Indigo furniture store in the Valley before they headed back to his house together.
Megan’s rep had no comment on the supposed split, but now we’re wondering: Did they ever broke up in the first place?

Lopez was lent $50,000 worth of diamonds for the launch of Andrew Lieberman’s fashion line, ALC, last week by Robert Mouawa. He also lent jewelery to Gwen Stefani, Leah Remini and Ellen Pompeo. Gwen, Leah and Ellen returned the accessories the next day, but not Jennifer. No, Jennifer assumed it was a gift and had her manager inform them that she’ll be borrowing it indefinitely.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say Jennfier’s endorsement is priceless. She’s quickly become one of the most annoying celebrities of the decade. Her antics are wearing thin and people are starting to do the opposite of what she does because they have so much animosity for her. For example, if they see Jennifer sporting a $10,000 diamond ring, they go to Vons to buy a ring pop, if Jennifer wears a designer dress, they put on a t-shirt and if Jennifer buys a new Lamborghini, they pee in her gas tank.

If Star Magazine is to be believed, Chris Brown and Rihanna were married at Diddy’s mansion in Miami over the weekend.
“All she’s ever wanted was to be with him forever,” a source tells Star. “Rihanna is looking for the husband-and-two-kids deal before she turns 25. She believes in fairy tales, and she wants to live hers with Chris. She was totally up front and confessed to him, ‘I can’t live without you.’”
May I remind you, Chris Brown did this to Rihanna. Then today, Radar has photographic evidence of what appears to be Rihanna’s blood on the center console of Brown’s rented Lamborghini. Though, admittedly, this could very well be Brown’s blood from when Rihanna’s face injured his fist (poor Chris).
If this marriage rumor is true, then Rihanna must have Chris exactly where she wants him. By her side. Every single day. Able to beat her whenever he wants. Well played, Rihanna.

I know what you’re saying. “Who the hell is Malin Ackerman?” I feel the same way. Malin is an actress that’s in the upcoming Watchmen, and she has been in movies like 27 Dresses and The Heartbreak Kid. None of that really matters when you check her out in Maxim magazine. Malin looks pretty amazing, I’m not gonna lie. While her cleavage isn’t the biggest, I’m strangely drawn to it (and the rest of her sexy body). In other news, Britney launched her tour, The Circus: Starring Britney Spears, last night in New Orleans. Word on the street is that it was relatively decent. No one cares about her generic, manufactured-to-hell-and-back music and she’s boring as fuck now that she’s not allowed to roam around and fly her freak flag; keeping that in mind, she (or rather, the massive team in charge of her every move these days) wisely created a gigantic spectacle of visual insanity to hold the crowd’s interest for at least 35 whole seconds. God, I miss Crazy Britney. Especially the Random Accent Period. That was awesome. I mean, it was sad ‘n shit, because mental illness is bad news bears, blah blah tragedy stew in a sadness bowl… but it was still awesome.

Despite the fact that he did this to her face, Rihanna is now balking at pressing charges or testifying in the case against Chris Brown since she reconciled with him. She is no longer cooperating with police, according to the Sun UK:
The 21-year-old is refusing to help with their investigation after rekindling her romance with the singer.
But detectives may still have a case against Brown, 19, and will hand their file to the Los Angeles County District Attorney later this week.
A police source said: ?Rihanna says she doesn?t want to testify against him. She has had a change of heart and doesn?t want the case to proceed.
?However detectives are still building their case based on what she originally told them and accounts of witnesses.
Oh, but it gets better (if by better, you mean unfathomably worse). Rihanna may have secretly married Chris Brown at Sean “Poof Doody” Combs’ mansion in Miami last weekend. This is from Star, so keep in mind that there’s probably a 95% chance that it’s at least halfway made up:

Ugh. Okay, even if this is actually true, I refuse to talk smack about Rihanna because the psychology of the abused woman is a dark and complex web, but Jesus H. Christ on a crumpet, where the shit are her handlers? Totally discounting the eleventy million other reasons this is a bad fucking idea, at the very least it’s an incredibly poor business decision as far as the future of her career is concerned. The backlash started once word got out that she was even accepting his phone calls. If she really did marry his ass, things are going to get very ugly.

Last night was the opening night of Britney Spears’ “Circus” tour, and early buzz on the performance is positive. Of course, Spears didn’t sing live, which is nothing new. But audience goers reported that Britney’s dance moves and stage presence is back. Meanwhile, Brit’s ex-husband Kevin Federline was spotted hanging out in a New Orleans casino while the show was going on. Hey, isn’t he getting five grand a week to look after their two kids?
Sure, she lip-synched it, but that’s nothing new — and judging from the opening night of her Circus tour, it’s safe to say, Britney’s back with a vengeance.
It’s actually pretty breathtaking … in a positive way. Think back one year, when her career was not only written off as over, but she was almost given up for dead. We’re told she felt “at home” on stage in New Orleans last night and was beyond happy to be there.
The only thing going crazy now … is the crowd.
So you would think for $5 grand a week, Britney would get a bang for her babysitting buck. But babyslacker Kevin Federline was no where in sight yesterday as Britney’s security guards and nanny took Sean Preston and Jayden James for a stroll in the New Orleans.
Britney Spears agreed to pay Kevin Federline $5,000 a week while she’s on tour. So how does K-Fed spend his first night in New Orleans with the kiddies? He doesn’t spend it with the kiddies. Kevin spent the night at Harrahs Casino — possibly doubling down on the $5k. Wouldn’t be a shock. After all, he has dice tattooed on his wrist.

Congrats to Brit for pulling this off. She’s got a lot of people rooting for her right now - hopefully she will be able to manage the pressure and schedule of this tour. I think it’s interesting that the more Britney seems to be pulling herself together, the more shady K-Fed looks. I mean, really - a casino, Kevin? It’s the biggest night of Brit’s career, he’s supposed to be watching their children, and he’s out gambling. Is that how America’s most famous single dad chooses to spend his $5k a week - in this economy? I guess he has nothing to worry about, as long as he’s on the Spears Gravy Train.

Britney Spears kicked off her first major tour in five years at the New Orleans Arena Tuesday night. Reviews all across the board were a resounding “meh.” Most of them compliment her on not being a complete train wreck like at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards which, if you think about it, isn’t saying much.
The theme, of course, was a circus. A variety of acts performed in the background sometimes outshining Spears. PEOPLE says that at points, it seemed like Britney wasn’t into it at all. They called her performance labored with a lack of joy.
90 minutes after the opening, the concert ended and people were neither enthused or sullen. A good thing if you’re Britney Spears. At this point, middle of the road is the best she can ask for. As long as she didn’t fall and break her face and run home to cry in a chocolate pie, it’s considered great night.

After Usher saw photos of Chris Brown riding jet skis without a care in the world, he said he was “a little disappointed” and Chris should “have a little remorse, man.” In a statement released Tuesday he says he takes it back.
“The comments made during a recent recording session amongst friends were taken out of context and blown out of proportion. I apologize on behalf of myself and my friends if anyone was offended. The intentions were not to pass judgment and we meant no harm. I respect and wish the best for all parties involved.”
In Usher’s defense, people who are sorry don’t usually party at mansions and ride around on jet skis three weeks after they turn their girlfriend’s face into a Picasso. A better statement would be to cut the brakes on Chris Brown’s car.

Katherine Heigl seems to make enemies every month. After winning over a sizable audience in her Emmy-winning performance in ?Grey?s Anatomy? and then starring in one of the biggest comedies of 2007, Knocked Up, Katherine was pegged as one of the biggest rising stars in Hollywood. Then she made a series of what could only be described as media relations disasters.
First there was her January 2008 Vanity Fair interview, where Katherine bashed the role that made her ?bankable? as a film actress. She called Knocked Up ?sexist? and then went on to bash the ?ratings ploy? plot of the ?Grey?s Anatomy? writers and producers. After some public condemnation for basically being ungrateful for the success she had, Katherine tried to back-track, sort of. Since it was basically her first offense, people tended to look the other way.
After that, Katherine bided her time until the a few weeks before the 2008 Emmy nominations were to be announced. She then sanctimoniously announced that she had withdrawn her name from Emmy consideration because she felt she hadn?t been given good enough material, and she didn?t think it was ?fair? to the other potential nominees. That?s when all hell broke loose.
Katherine got called every name in the book for that one. ?Grey?s Anatomy? writers and producers were pissed, and the gossip at the time was that Katherine was being deliberately bitchy as a way to get out of her Grey?s contract, so she could ultimately spend more time on her film career. Grey?s didn?t fire her though, instead forcing her to fulfill her contract. She?s been relatively quiet since then, until this new report. According to ?sources?, Heigl was a huge diva on the set of 27 Dresses and her new film Five Killers. BANG Media has more (via Gossip Rocks):
Katherine Heigl has been accused of behaving like a diva while filming ‘27 Dresses’.
The 30-year-old actress reportedly refused to film any scenes on the 2008 movie unless she was brought a can of Coke Zero, and also refused to talk to extras on set.
An extra on the film told gossip blogger Perez Hilton: “She wouldn’t film any scenes until her pregnant assistant ran and got her a Coke Zero. She refused to eat lunch next to anyone or have anyone speak to her once the stopped rolling.
“I filmed RIGHT next to her… for 10 hours straight two days in a row and she never once said hello to me. Never even looked in my direction even after I tried to make conversation.”
The new claims come after it was reported Katherine made a series of unreasonable demands on the set of her movie ?Five Killers’.
A crew member said: “She’s had appointments with us - from camera tests to fittings - that she just hasn’t shown up to and has been making herself unavailable.?
“She and her mother, who is her manager, even had the audacity to request that wardrobe people go to her. We accommodated that request and she flaked on the meeting.”
The movie is being shot in Atlanta and France, and Katherine has reportedly requested a private plane transport her to set and a large security team.
Another source said: “She has a sense of entitlement that is really off-putting. Many directors that she’s worked with in the past DO NOT want to work with her again.”

New York Fashion Week has come and gone, and for fans of the hit reality show “Project Runway,” it was just another cruel reminder that there’s still no new season. Due to a bitter battle between The Weinstein Co. and Lifetime over which company owns the rights to the show, season 6, which was taped last year, may never be aired. The three finalists still showed their creations at Fashion Week, but had to do so anonymously. So…is Runway in, or out?
For the first time in Runway history, the swan song [season finale], taped at New York City’s Bryant Park on Feb. 20, took place in a pop culture vacuum. Because of ongoing lawsuits- involving The Weinstein Co., which produces Runway; NBC Universal, parent company to Runway’s old network, Bravo; and Lifetime, which says it owns the rights to Runway’s sixth season - not a single minute of the new season has aired. As a result, this “finale” was a logistical nightmare. To maintain secrecy, none of the three finalists were permitted to appear on stage - and their collections were sent down the runway anonymously.
..”It’s so depressing,” sighed season 4 winner Christian Siriano, after the show. “There wasn’t the normal energy in the room, where everyone’s soooo excited. The designers must be depressed backstage. They can’t have any fun!”
No one entangled in the Runway debacle is having any fun right now. The fight began last April, when Harvey Weinstein announced he was moving the series from Bravo to Lifetime, staring with season 6, which was to premiere in January. Bravo’s parent company, NBC Universal, immediately sued Weinstein, claiming he had violated the network’s right of first refusal. The Weinstein Co. countersued NBC Universal, and then Lifetime jumped in and sued…everyone.
…Sources say a settlement is unlikely anytime soon. (The next court date is scheduled for March 19.) If the case goes to trial, the next cycle - which filmed in L.A. last fall and is almost entirely edited and ready for broadcast - could become the lost season of Runway.
“My heart goes out to the designers,” says cycle 5 finalist Korto Momolu. “People who are in charge need to think about the reason the show was created, which was to give underdogs a chance.”

It sucks for the designers, to be sure - but it sucks even more for fans of the show. Runway is one of the few reality shows left that is a competition mostly based on talent, rather than dramatics or drunken antics and skanky behavior. Runway’s stressed out designer wannabes are true entertainment for people who love fashion. And let’s not forget the best part of the show - Tim Gunn! I miss his little nuggets of fashion wisdom each week. I hope these network catfights end soon.

Britney Spears started her tour in New Orleans. Last I had heard, Britney hadn’t even sold out the opening night. Perhaps economic crisis, or perhaps people’s lack of interest. The show looks like it could be a bit interesting if I actually cared about her music. While Britney doesn’t exude the same sort of sex appeal anymore, it’s hard to deny that she’s still pretty hot! That being said, I would still give Britney Spears the time of day anytime she needed to relax.

Tyra Banks is back on the prowl promoting her America’s Next top Model show, which really should be called something like ‘America’s next part-time model who goes back to her normal job is six months’ and feature that Flight of the Conchords song. You know the one, about being the ‘most beautiful girl in the room, depending on the room.’
The show is yet to produce a real, strong international success story in modeling, so in order to create some kind of interest (we are up to season 12) Tyra is looking for short chicks for season 13.
Banks is ready to push industry boundaries on the show’s next season, due in September.
Women on the comparatively short side will be the focus: Nobody over 5-foot-7 (1.7 metres) need apply for the shot at a modelling contract.
Supermodels usually tower over mere mortals, with only a handful of less-than-statuesque beauties like Kate Moss making the cut.
Banks already has encountered scepticism from industry insiders.
“A couple of designer friends said, ‘Look, girl, you better make sure that winner is fierce if it’s not going to be a joke. You’ve got to make sure her face and body photographs like a tall model. She has to be really amazing.’

So basically Tyra is looking for a non-conformist model, that is as thin as a model, photographs like a model and won’t be allowed within spitting distance of a catwalk. I’m sure Tyra thinks that she’s pushing boundaries here, but a lot of models (particularly lingerie models) are shorter and heavier than your average catwalk model. She basically conforming to the same ideal but trying to sell it as a big departure - although I think even under 5ft is small for a model.
Season 12 begins March 4, and will also feature some less-than-likely supermodels.
Banks said she created America’s Next Top Model, back with a two-hour episode airing in the US on tonight, to counter stereotypes of who and what is considered beautiful.
The show has included minorities and women dubbed “plus-size” by the fashion industry.
Banks, who also leads the show’s judging panel, challenged convention herself as one of the few African-American supermodels.
This time around on Top Model, one contestant bears scars on her body from an accidental scalding she suffered as a child and refuses to hide the marks. Another has startlingly large, mesmerising eyes. A third is a street preacher.
“This is a very special group of girls,” Banks said.
“I want them to connect with viewers, and not just with their looks, but with their personalities.”

Tyra says by using these kinds of people she wants to counter stereotypes of who and what is beautiful, but she is walking a fine line between good taste and freakshow. I’d just love to see Tyra, instead of this hurtful elimination show (I can’t stand any reality show where people are eliminated) just take a beautiful, size 14 5?4? model under her wing and make her a star of the catwalk. I come from a small town and buy a lot of my clothes online because they aren’t available, it would make a big difference to judging the fit if it was fitted to a normal shaped person.

She’s been skipping meetings and making ridiculous demands.
