Holy hell. All sorts of stuff was going down at Monday?s Duplicity premiere in New York. Fox News has a piece up by Roger Friedman, who is a general film/theatre/television critic. He?s pretty good, and usually his reviews and pieces are very fair. I?m saying that I totally believe his version of events, so here goes.
Last night, Julia was walking the red carpet, talking to reporters, doing her job, basically. When she got to Friedman, Julia?s pleasant demeanor turned to stone. In Friedman?s words, Julia was ?rude, downright nasty, and dismissive… her behavior was unexpected and chilling.? First, this is sort of devastating to Julia Roberts, calling her out for some extraordinarily bad behavior. Second, maybe she had a good reason? Here?s the first part of Friedman?s piece:
Is it important for entertainment journalists to write nice things about movie stars? Do they even read their own press? Or are they so much in their own world that they just let their publicists tell them what?s going on in the world.
[Julia Roberts]… mother now of three kids, she probably doesn?t have the time to read anything. She certainly doesn?t read this column. When she saw me last night at the premiere of her sleek new thriller, ?Duplicity,? Roberts didn?t hesitate to cut me dead. She was rude, downright nasty, and dismissive. She snubbed me in front of other people to make her point, and later cut in between me and director Tony Gilroy to make her point. Her behavior was unexpected and chilling.
So what was the problem? Her officious publicist, Marcy Engelman, said: ?She knows you broke the embargo on her play and wrote bad things about her.?
Indeed, a top agent at the party said, ?Julia said, ‘that?s the man who writes bad things about me.’?
Wait: you?re thinking, even if that were true, would a gracious person do such a thing in public? That?s something to consider.
In any case, another producer, a long time friend of Julia?s, then proceeded to tell me she?d absolutely remembered me writing something terrible about Roberts. ?I know you did,? she said.

Oh, so what did he do to get The Wrath of Julia? In her mind, Friedman had written something horrible about her performance in ?Three Days of Rain?, the play she did in the spring of 2006. What a long memory. But what terrible things did Friedman write about America?s Sweetheart?
For the record: When Roberts was a week away from opening in ?Three Days of Rain? on Broadway in April 2006, she was getting terrible advance buzz in the local newspapers. The gossip snipes said she looked bad, and couldn?t act. As an ardent fan of Roberts, I thought I?d go over and see what was happening. After mentioning the enthusiastic audience and the celebrities who?d already come to see her, I wrote:
?As for Julia: She was very good on Saturday afternoon. We heard her clearly in the last row. She has a strong stage presence and I suspect it will just get better and better as she warms up for opening night. She is funny and charming when appropriate, somber and grim with conviction too. She has all her lines digested and you cannot take your eyes off of her. She actually injects some life into that first-act character with some real Roberts sarcasm. It’s most welcome. In the second act, though, she combines her best riffs from her performances in “Steel Magnolias” and “Ready to Wear,” among others.?
?And she does not look thin, gaunt or unhappy. Quite to the contrary, she has a supple energy. Our audience went wild for her, with a standing ovation and cheering. So there.
As our Usher said, she’s already very good and by opening night, pow!?
?So retract those claws, kitties. And get ready. No, she’s not Cherry Jones or Phylicia Rashad ? yet. But she’s a movie star and can act circles around anyone, and she’s going to be a sensation in the papers on the morning of April 20.?
?My guess is this will open the door for her to alternate doing plays and movies, and that can only be a good thing.?
This may be the ultimate example of ?a good turn will not go unpunished.?
Most reviewers, in fact, did not care for Roberts when the play opened. She got creamed by the regular theater critics. The morning after opening night I wrote:
?If anything, she seemed more relaxed on stage this time around, and significantly improved. It will be interesting to go see her at the end of the run in June … When Roberts returns to Broadway in a couple of years ? which she will undoubtedly do ? I hope it?s in a romantic comedy or a farce where she can show off her real talents.?
I did think Roberts was brave to take on Broadway. And the fact is, the material was not suited to her. In the end, it may have been the same case that plagues many Hollywood stars who want to jump into the deep end on Broadway before learning to swim. Sometimes it?s better to do what Katie Holmes did in ?All My Sons? this last year, and take a secondary role.
In any case, I wouldn?t have thought that what I wrote about Roberts in her play could have justified the scene at last night?s party. It was not pretty, and it was meant to be devastating. Her associates said, ?This is what she was told.? And that?s even worse: to think that most people in Hollywood start many conversations with these words: ?I was told you wrote (blank).?
Maybe it?s time to start getting better information… My advice to Julia: get a new publicist, and a clipping service.

Jesus. If Julia Roberts has any kind conscience, she needs to send this guy a muffin basket or something. Even if she was totally in the dark about what Friedman actually wrote, and she was being told by her people that ?Oh, he?s just written horrible things about you? it?s still not an excuse. If you don?t want to talk to someone who writes bad things about you, don?t do it. There?s no reason to act like such an a–hole. Julia?s been at this for more than two decades. Methinks she?s just off her game.

Clive Owen and Julia Roberts are still promoting Duplicity. They?ve been promoting it for what feels like two months. It?s sort of reminiscent of Tom Cruise?s neverending Valkyrie press tour (which I think he?s still on, by the way). Duplicity comes out this weekend in America, and they just held the New York premiere Monday night. Clive Owen stopped and talked to OK! about the film and his life.
A lot of the quotes are the same kind of stuff he?s said before. Unfortunately, he doesn?t go into any more detail about his hot David Bowie obsession, or how Geroge Clooney is obsessed with him. Too bad. But Clive does reveal that his daughters think that he?s so utterly uncool. OK! has more:

It?s weird to think that Clive?s daughters wouldn?t think he?s well-dressed. He’s always well attired, as far as I?ve seen. But then again, I?ve never spied him in a velvet jacket, so maybe he does have some bad clothes in the old closet. Other than that, it just seems like normal kid stuff. His girls will get how cool their dad is when they?re older.

Here’s Katharin McPhee prancing around the ocean in Oahu for a movie she’s filming called Wedlocked. Not much has been heard from her since her American Idol days save for a movie and tv appearance here and there and there’s no indication that this new project should propel her into any type of spotlight. Meaning, we should probably enjoy her fantastic tits while we still can before she fades into complete obscurity.
For the curious, Wedlocked is about a mobster arraigning U.S. citizenship for his daughter by introducing her to an American photographer. If this American photographer turns out to be not really a photographer, but someone with a store bought video camera and cheap lighting, then I want to know who gave them permission to use my life story.

For Sex and the City devotees, this story is straight out of Season One, an episode called ?The Baby Shower?. Remember when Charlotte had her future daughter?s name already picked out (?Shayla?) , and then the girls went to a baby shower in Connecticut and their pregnant friend had already ?stolen? Charlotte?s baby name? Well, that totally happened to Gwen Stefani and her No Doubt bandmate Tom Dumont, only not really. This story just reminded me of that episode.
Gwen has revealed that she got her second son?s name ?Zuma? from Tom and his wife Mieke. Tom and Mieke had first chosen then rejected the name ?Zuma? for their two sons, eventually names Ace and Rio. Gwen claims Mieke ?didn?t want? the name, so the name wasn?t really stolen. PR Inside has more:
Gwen Stefani looked to an unusual source when deciding what to call her new son - she named the baby Zuma after her No Doubt bandmate suggested the moniker.
It was reported that Stefani and Gavin Rossdale named their seven-month old tot after the couple?s favourite California beach.
But the singer has revealed her second son?s unusual name actually came from the band?s guitarist Tom Dumont, whose wife Mieke rejected it for their two sons, Ace and Rio.
Stefani tells radio show Mojo in the Morning, “I kind of stole it from him. I didn?t steal it, I mean his wife didn?t want it. It was just one of those things that just happened. I just wanted Zuma to have a little bit of a quirky name.” The couple also has a two year old son, Kingston.

I actually really like the name Kingston, I think it?s really cute for a little boy. Zuma?s a bit harder to like though, even though he seems to follow in his big brother?s cuteness footsteps. How couples name their babies is always fascinating to me, probably because I spent a large part of my childhood wishing I had a different, more normal name. Gwen?s story is really cute, but Zuma?s going to feel bad when he realizes his name was someone else?s reject.

In a tween pop music world dominated by Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift is a revelation. She almost seems too good to be true. In every interview, the girl seems very sweet and poised, she writes her own music and she?s never flashed her privates. Give this girl a medal!
Taylor is April?s Allure cover girl, and People magazine has some of the details of the interview. Taylor doesn?t want to talk about her much-discussed virginity, saying ?when you talk about virginity and sex publicly, people just automatically picture you naked. And as much as I can prevent people picturing me naked, I’m going to.? She also says that if you can get a good song out of the worst relationship, the whole ordeal was worth it. But what if we don?t write songs, Taylor? People has more:
Taylor Swift has no problems talking about dating ? and boys ? but don’t ask her about sex.
“It’s fine to talk about love publicly,” the 19-year-old singer tells Allure for its April issue, “but I think when you talk about virginity and sex publicly, people just automatically picture you naked. And as much as I can prevent people picturing me naked, I’m going to.”
Still, Swift thinks a lot about dating, especially its impact on her songwriting. Even a bad relationship can be a point of inspiration.

Despite her love of a happy ending, the teen star says the flip side can be more appealing.
“For some reason, I could never, ever stop writing songs about heartbreak,” she says. “Just because as human beings, what we can’t have is what we replay in our head over and over again before we go to sleep.”

On one of my local radio stations, there?s a deejay who is obsessed with Taylor?s music, so I basically know all the words to several Taylor Swift songs just from listening in the car. She?s got a great, twangy voice, and I hope her pop-country crossover is complete.
Note by Celebitchy: Taylor gave a similar comment about her virginity to Rolling Stone, saying in an interview published in the March issue, “I feel like whatever you say about whether you do or don?t, it makes people picture you naked.” If that’s about as controversial as she gets, you can understand why she’s repeating herself.

My vote is for Colin Farrell, but it seems like there?s actual hard data on this stuff. A poll was commissioned for St. Patrick?s Day to find the sexiest Irish celebrities. Pierce Brosnan won! Over a quarter of UK women decided the Mamma Mia! man is the sexiest Irish star as he beat Swat star Colin Farrell and Boyzone frontman Ronan Keating to first place.
The women polled decided to forgive his questionable singing in the smash hit film and instead remembered his suave performance as James Bond to name him the hottest man from across the ocean.
Sadly there was bad news for X Factor judge Louis Walsh, who didn’t manage to swing a single vote. Even TV presenter Terry Wogan managed to wangle 2 per cent, and Bono and Bob Geldof managed 1 per cent.
The top three sexiest Irish women, as voted by the men, were deemed to be Andrea Corr, the One Show’s Christine Bleakley and Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle. Bangor beauty and Dancing On Ice star Zoe Salmon also scored highly.
The YouGov survey was commissioned by Irish London-based communications consultancy, Eulogy!, to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

I?m having a hard time deciding if Mary-Kate Olsen looks more like a vampire or a zombie. With those round glasses she?s clearly channeling John Lennon ? though I doubt he?d appreciate it. Mary-Kate and boyfriend Nate Lowman attended the Metropolitan Opera’s gala in New York on Sunday night. Her style looks very different ? her hair is big and flowing, and I actually like it on her. But she went for this unfortunate uber-pale look that makes her appear sickly. However lighting clearly had a lot to do with it ? in some photos she looks paler than a ghost, whereas in others she looks relatively normal.
She’s the child star who’s grown up in public, so every image change is a big deal. Mary-Kate Olsen transformed into a grungy teen from the schmaltzy child star in the Full House show that made her famous - and now she’s moving into adulthood. The actress twin, now 21, unveiled an edgy new look at the Metropolitan Opera’s gala in New York last night.
Seemingly inspired by an early Madonna and Courtney Love, she worked tousled blonde curls, bold red lips and smoky eyes as she arrived for the event. The experimental look has already won praise from fashion quarters, with Elle magazine noting they ‘love it’, adding it was ‘much more grown-up and polished - but not too groomed.’
The event honored the company’s 125-year history, previewed its current stars in upcoming roles, and found time to pay tribute to Placido Domingo’s 40 years at the house.
When it comes to fashion Mary-Kate, who battled anorexia as a teen, prefers create trends rather than follow them. She says: ‘I can’t stand looking like everybody else.’

I go back and forth on this look. I think Mary-Kate could have pulled it off a little better ? and eliminated a lot of the potential creepiness ? if she?d gone with a different eye shadow. The reddish/pink is just not helping things. Yet I must be somewhat alone, because she?s gotten a lot of good reviews for her ensemble.
OK, so the lips are a little Joker-ish and the skin is a little kabuki, but this morning I find myself singing the praises of Mary-Kate Olsen’s new look. Mostly thanks to the hair. Throughout her post-”Full House” years, the ‘do has always been MK’s biggest don’t, but last night at the Metropolitan Opera’s 125th anniversary gala, the teeniest star in the galaxy sported some seriously hot big ol’ country hair. And I am loving it.
It looks healthy, full and luxurious — but enough about Mary-Kate. I can’t say enough about this off the charts sexy side-swept style. Hey, I think this is the first time I’ve used “Mary-Kate” and “sexy” in the same breath. Fun!

It?s definitely a dramatic change for the pocket-sized actress. Mary-Kate likes to get attention for her fashion sense, and she certainly got it on Sunday night. She was far and away the most photographed person at the event. While I?m always obsessively promoting the pale look (for my own selfish halfbino-related agenda), I don?t think there?s anything wrong with a little rouge. But I do prefer this look over some of Mary-Kate?s true fashion mishaps, and look forward to her next attempt.

Mariska Hargitay isn?t taking her Law and Order: SVU co-star Ice-T?s advice to take some time and heal. Her rep confirmed that she?ll be back to filming episodes of SVU for the rest of the season. So far, Mariska has only missed one episode due to her mystery lung ailment. It?s unknown exactly what?s going on with her health, but she?s been hospitalized twice, the second time just last week. Despite rumors speculating that Law and Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay would be missing the entire rest of the season due to health concerns, the actresses’ rep tells OK! not to believe the buzz.
“Not true,” says the rep of the report. “Mariska is recovering well and is returning to the show this season. She is only missing one episode.”
Mariska’s had a bumpy few months after being hospitalized for a collapsed lung in mid January. The star returned to work and seemed to be doing well, but had to visit the hospital again after experiencing some discomfort relating to the lung condition.

I?m a huge fan of Mariska?s, and I feel very strongly that if my girl needs to rest and recuperate, that?s what she should be doing. SVU can?t have that many more episodes to film, so why all the drama about her coming back to work so soon? There?s obviously something wrong with her, or she wouldn?t have needed to be hospitalized a second time. There?s even a rumor going around that she needs surgery, but that hasn?t been verified by anyone close to Mariska.

Salma Hayek will appear on the cover of April?s In Style Magazine, and she reveals some interesting details about her future career plans and her daughter in the cover story. First, she discusses her plans to develop a range of age-defying cosmetics, based on the home-made ?potions? made by her grandmother.
Hayek claims that her grandmother, Maria Luisa, made her own lotions and cosmetics using ?secret ingredients? only found in Latin America. I don?t really know what to say about all of that, but I do hope that if this cosmetics line takes off, Hayek makes it a priority to extend the foundation colors to dark-skinned women. Hollywood actress Salma Hayek is sharing the secrets behind her stunning looks - she’s developing a range of anti-ageing cosmetics.
The currently-unnamed line is inspired by Hayek’s maternal grandmother, former cosmetologist Maria Luisa, whose home-made potions kept her skin glowing well into her 90s.
The 42-year-old Mexican is planning to recreate the concoctions, which will be named in her grandmother’s honour.

Salma is such a cute mom. You can tell that being a parent to Valentina has just made her life. So far, I haven?t seen any quotes about Salma?s new husband (and Valentina?s daddy) Francois-Henri Pinault, but it?s possible that the interview took place before their Valentine?s Day wedding.

Kendra Wilkinson say that she’s an old fashioned kind of gal, despite the fact that she’s a nude model and used to share her senior ex-boyfriend with two other girls. Unfortunately not everyone can see her old fashioned values, because she’s having a hard time finding a minister willing to come to the Playboy mansion and marry her.
“I’m getting stressed since I’m trying to find a minister to perform the ceremony at the Playboy Mansion,” Wilkinson, 23, tells CeleBuzz. “It might be the most stressful detail.”
Man of the manor Hugh Hefner could take on yet another job, but Wilkinson is thinking a little more traditional.
“We’re trying our hardest,” she says. “But it is the Playboy Mansion.”

Mena Suvari’s wedding dress has one main requirement: cover the “American Beauty” actress’ tattoos. “I think it would be considerate to [fiance Simone Sistito's] family to have my tattoos covered, since there are two nuns on his mother’s side of the family,” Suvari told us at the Vanity Fair and USA Networks Character Project bash last week. Sporting an 8.6-carat, custom-designed engagement ring, Suvari constantly wanted to be around her beau, overheard saying, “Where’s my man? Where’s my man? Did he split?” before finding him texting alone in the corner.

Mena has actually been married before, which is a big no-no in the catholic church. Perhaps her conservative mother-in-law isn’t happy about her son marrying a divorcee and Mena is trying to avoid giving her something else to dislike. Her fiance, concert promoter Simone Sistito, has at least two tattoos, on his arm and chest, which will presumably be covered on their wedding day, while Mena has a small sun at the bottom of her breast bone and another large tattoo on the back of her neck and shoulders of a lion. The latter could be a little difficult to hide, but perhaps Mena could consider Hollywood make up. Often tattoos are covered on screen by make up for stars.
Mena has not revealed the date for her nuptials, Kendra will marry her fiance Hank Baskett in early June.
