| Usher opens a roller skating residency: 'people need to understand how fun this is' | Added 44 hours ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

During his Super Bowl half-time performance earlier this year, Usher broke out his roller skates and skated along to the choreography for his songs, ?Bad Girl? and ?OMG.? It was really fun! Since he?s also incorporated skating into his tours, I assumed that it was just a part of his schtick, like how Pink does the acrobat thing. As it turns out, Usher is really into roller skating culture. He even credits it with keeping him young. In fact, Usher is such a big fan of roller skating that he and model Liberty Ross (#random) are opening the very first ?full-service skating rink residency? in Las Vegas, called Flippers Roller Boogie Palace. The rink will be at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas? TAO Beach.
This is kind of a victory lap for Las Vegas, he tells PEOPLE at the Flippers grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 16. He kicked off the star-studded event by skating throughout The Venetian as guests cheered him on.
It really all started with my residency and we had a second residency and we played the Super Bowl. We went to Paris. Now coming back with this tour, Im in the flow, having a good time, enjoying and doing things that I really love.
When it comes to the secret behind maintaining his youthful good looks, physique and energetic spirit, skating has always kept me young, reveals the star, and its something that I feel is a necessity for youth nowadays. Everybody spends so much time scrolling. We want you to roll, come out, get active, come and have a good time.
Stars Dr. Dre and Dita Von Teese turned out for the occasion, joining hundreds of attendees. As for roller skating novices, Usher wants them to hit the rink, too. Theres no judgment here, he says. You fall, you get back up. We invite the entire family to come.
Having skated since he was a kid, the star has a deeper connection to the activity. Its a form of self care, Usher says. The freedom and expression, I really feel like its a language when you get deeper into the cultures of skating for rhythm, period. And people need to understand how fun this really is.
Usher hopes he can convince some of his superstar pals to lace up a pair soon. Dre, Snoop and Pharrell getting out here would be crazy, he says. NWA came up through skaters, a lot of those early hip hop bands could only get space to perform in the roller rinks. I can still remember as a kid performing in rinks. Its always been the grounds for culture.
And Usher says youre much more likely to find him at the rink than in the kitchen this holiday season. I wouldnt bank on me for your Thanksgiving dinner, he says with a smile. No, no. I might be able to do some mac and cheese and a little banana pudding but thats about it.
[From People]
If you had Usher being a huge off-stage roller skating affinado on your bingo card, congratulations! I love that he credits it with keeping him young. It?s awesome when you find that one thing that brings you to your happy place, even if it?s just a momentary escape. For me, that?s hiking or taking a walk. It?s tough to find your peace nowadays, but it?s also more crucial than ever now to identify it and do some self-care.
As for the rink itself, this is actually pretty cool. Roller skating is definitely one of those niche activities that Millennials and older will absolutely try at least once for the nostalgia factor. I remember how big roller skating (and then roller blading) was when I was growing up. We had some fun rinks on Long Island back in the day. There is only one place in the area where I live now, and when we pass it, I?m always surprised by how busy it is. My son has been to a few birthday parties there and it really is a throwback. I need to set up an adult skating party one of these days.

I watched Mike Flanagan?s The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix last week and really liked it. It was my first Flanagan show. If you haven?t watched Usher yet, it takes its name and lead characters from the Edgar Allan Poe short story and incorporates many of his other storylines and characters from his stories and poems to make one big Poe Universe. Flanagan packs a lot of Easter eggs into those eight episodes. The show follows the Usher family?s rise and downfall through two different timelines, as told by patriarch Roderick. It?s graphic, but compelling and really well-acted.
I know that Flanagan works with a lot of the same actors over and over again, just like Ryan Murphy does. His wife, Kate Siegel, is one of those actors. In Usher,? she plays public relations guru Camille, who also happens to be one of Roderick?s daughters. Camille is smart, ruthless, and a bitch. Turns out, the inspiration for Camille comes from an unlikely source: Pixar?s The Incredibles!
The Fall of the House of Usher star Kate Siegel has revealed the unlikely source of inspiration behind her character Camille LEspanaye. In a video clip shared to Twitter by Mike Flanagan Source, Siegel admits that her character was based on the duplicitous character Mirage from Pixar?s The Incredibles. Initially suggesting that when she was a young girl she thought Mirage ?was the most beautiful woman I could imagine?, she went on to jokingly admit that once audiences see the resemblance between the two characters, it can?t be unseen.
?Camille is entirely based on a character named Mirage from The Incredibles. When I was a little girl, she was like my Jessica Rabbit. Like I thought she was the most beautiful woman I could imagine. She is the one that tricks Mr. Incredible into coming and being kidnapped. Once you?ve seen it, you can?t unsee it. So sorry to spoil all of your childhood dreams, but Camille is just Mirage.?
While Siegel is quick to credit the animated femme fatale who served as the assistant to Syndrome in The Incredibles for her character?s basis, creator Flanagan also mined the depths of Edgar Allan Poe?s massive catalog of written works to help give the Usher character form. Where Siegel?s Camille may owe her own trademark silver hair and cool demeanor to Mirage, the original character itself is drawn from Poe?s 1841 short story The Murders in the Rue Morgue.
[From Screenrant]
I think it?s hilarious that Siegel based Camille on a Pixar character, but hey, we can?t help where we get inspiration from! When the moment strikes, you gotta go where it?s going to take you. It?s been a few years since I?ve seen The Incredibles, so I watched a compilation of her best moments on YouTube and I can see how Siegel drew her inspiration from Mirage. I never would have guessed it, though, even if you had given me a multiple choice.
I thought the entire cast did a great job with such complicated, tragic, and for some, evil characters. Bruce Greenwood is particularly outstanding as Roderick, despite taking over for Frank Langella mid-way through filming (#lemon). Willa Fitzgerald is mesmerizing as young Madeline and Carla Gugino kills it (pun intended) as Verna, which is an anagram for Raven. I?m definitely going to check out more of Flangan?s shows. I?ve heard good things about Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House, so I guess I?ll start with those.

| Usher's dinner party rule: Don't come empty-handed, but don't bring potato salad | Added 392 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Usher?s Las Vegas residency at the MGM is the latest Vegas success story. I keep hearing that his show is incredible and he?s got A-listers making the trek to Las Vegas just to sit front-row at his shows. To promote the residency (and he just likes to chat), Usher spoke to The Cut about party rules, drinking and vacations. Some highlights:
His dinner-party rules: ?Don?t come empty handed. If you come to a dinner party, I think it?s appropriate to bring something. Napkins, a bottle of Rmy. Not everybody likes your potato salad, so don?t bring that. But bring something. I think that?s just a natural thing of etiquette, something to just say, ?Hey, let?s celebrate together, and I brought this in honor for this moment that we have together.?
His pre-show rituals: ?I warm up, I work out, try to eat light, and we say a prayer and go. When I say we, I mean my entire cast, not just core dancers, but the entire staff. We meet backstage right before we go onstage and say a prayer, making sure everybody?s safe while we are here to put good energy in the room. It?s helpful, I?ve been doing it for years; it gives people that feeling that it?s like family.?
His No. 1 rule for a night out drinking: ?Before, it?s a sip. Afterward, it?s a gulp.?
Party rules: ?Don?t let friends drink alone. That one gets you in trouble every time, but we drink together and in that moment we just have a little fun.?
He loves to skate: ?It ain?t about how many times you fall, it?s about how quick you get back up. And also what you learned from the fall. Skating is like a metaphor for life. Skating helps you stay young; it takes you back to your childhood, when you had less cares in the world. I think we spend so much time on our phones, it?s a bit hard to just release, relax, and let go of that device. You?re kind of forced to disconnect from that and just reconnect with yourself.
His rule for tailoring suits: ?I got to have a gusset in the pants because I need to move. I build out every suit to accommodate my dancing, not just the look of it. I want you to feel me, but I ain?t really trying to have you feel me, feel me. That?s one golden rule.
[From The Cut]
I agree that it?s simply good etiquette to bring something to a dinner party. I disagree that you shouldn?t try to do something homemade though! It depends on whether or not you can cook and whether or not your potato salad is any good. But if you don?t want to risk it, yes, just bring napkins or a bottle of wine or a gift for the host/hostess. My tip: make a batch of brownies (real brownies, not pot brownies) and put them in a nice tin. Maybe people will eat the brownies at the dinner party, or maybe they?re just for the host. As for the drinking rules? I?m the same age as Usher and I have no idea how he can still drink before and after his shows and still work like that AND party like that. My ass would need to dry out and go to bed.

When last we discussed Usher, he was being sued by several people for spreading herpes through unprotected sex. In May, he settled with Laura Helms after trying to get her suit dismissed by blaming her for knowing that unprotected sex can be dangerous. Obviously, something like that is pretty hard to distract from but Usher sure tried. After sporting a new haircut that has his head shaved to up above his ears, Usher did this:

It?s going to be a romantic year for Usher, as he just got engaged to Grace Miguel, his longtime girlfriend and business partner. According to Us Weekly, the ?You Remind Me? crooner recently proposed and for now they?re not going public with the betrothal.
An insider explained, ?She?s happy but they?re trying to keep it quiet.? As for the left-hand bling, ?You wouldn?t think it was an engagement ring because it?s so big.?
Back in October, Usher told Billboard magazine, "I have an incredible partner and manager. She has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life and my career. She?s someone who?s been able to support and understand all of who I am. Not just as a dancer or as a performer or as a singer, but as a humanitarian and a business man and as a person."

Ushering their son Romeo into the family business, David and Victoria Beckham showed up at the Burberry Festive Campaign launch in London on Monday (November 3).
Joined by Burberry?s Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey, the proud mom and dad posed with their handsome 12-year-old son, who stars in the ?From London With Love? Fred Astaire-inspired advertising spread.
Bailey told Us Weekly, "This festive campaign is a celebration of everything we love at Burberry. The trench coat, the cashmere scarf, incredible music, our British weather, and working with great and talented people [are all included]."
"It continues to be an utter joy working with Romeo,? he added. ?He has charm, style, and great energy! I'm delighted that he's the lead role in our festive campaign."
And it sounds like Victoria is pleased with the way everything has turned out. She simply stated, "I'm very proud of Romeo."

| Lauren Conrad tweets photos of her new shelter puppy Fitz: OMG, adorable! | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Aw? we rarely discuss Lauren Conrad these days, but I guess some people still care about her. Especially if the story involves an absolutely adorable shelter puppy! LC adopted her latest dog, Fitz, a few days ago from an animal shelter. Fitz Conrad joined Chloe Conrad, who is LC?s 4-year-old Lab mix, also from a shelter. Lauren was tweeting photos like crazy ? Chloe seemed to take to the new puppy very quickly. And Fitz is SO small! I can?t really tell what kind of dog he is ? some kind of mix.
Lauren explained, “Never go to the animal shelter ‘just to look.? It never ends that way.” That?s actually really good advice. I don?t know how many times my mom has been like, ?I?m ready for a new cat,? and she decides to make a trip to see some stranger?s litter of kittens or she?ll stop by the animal shelter and BAM, she has three new cats. My mom cries at animal shelters. I do too, which is why I can?t visit them, lest I take all of the puppies and kittens home.
Incidentally, should we discuss the absolute sh-t-fit in the comments of that Usher post yesterday? I felt like a lot of you really went overboard in yelling at me for holding a position I don?t really hold. It felt like some of you didn?t even bother to read what I wrote ? I acknowledged that Usher paid $12,000 for a designer dog FOR CHARITY. Which is okay. But I just don?t like to encourage ?designer dog trends? because most of the time, those kinds of ?trends? lead to awful puppy mills and more ?designer dogs? that won?t find homes, and are badly bred and have lots of medical issues. Plus, I?m just a big believer and supporter of animal shelters. I will acknowledge that I was more pissed off at the charity auction organizers for including a ?designer dog? for celebrities to bid on ? it?s not really on Usher, although I do think that when celebrities buy these designer dogs, it encourages more people to go designer rather than shelter animal.
PS? I still think Lauren Conrad is the California-blonde version of Duchess Kate. Their faces are identical.

| Usher paid $12,000 for a Goldendoodle puppy at a charity auction: ridiculous? | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I have very mixed feelings about all of this. Usher attended the Pencils of Promise gala several days ago, and he ended up bidding on a special item during the charity auction. That item? A designer dog ? a Goldendoodle puppy. Goldendoodles are those Golden retriever-poodle mixes that a lot of people want for whatever reason. Anyway, Usher ended up winning the puppy with a $12,000 bid (outbidding Jessica Szohr?s $11,000 bid). Well, the money goes to Pencils of Promise, which is totally a worthy cause and that?s great. But I can?t help but think? $12,000 for a designer dog?! REALLY? Usher knows there are thousands of dogs in need in shelters, right?
Usher sure has expensive taste! Attending the Oct. 25 Pencils of Promise gala in New York City, the singer and new Voice mentor outbid former Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr in order to take home an adorable — and coveted — Goldendoodle puppy.
A cross-bred dog that is a mix between a golden retriever and a poodle, Usher’s new pet came with a price tag of $12,000 — money that goes to the Justin Bieber-endorsed organization that builds schools in impoverished nations. (Not to be ignored, Szohr bid an impressive $11,000 in an attempt to take the animal home, according to reports.)
“Poppy Raymond is what I’m think of namin’ her . . . however there are two gregarious 3- and 4-year-olds that will have the last say — and the responsibility that comes with her,” the singer, 34, tweeted after taking home the animal, referring to his two sons, Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Raymond, who will likely be bowled over by their dad’s latest purchase.
Donating funds to adopt a new pet wasn’t the only kind gesture Usher made at the event. The “Numb” singer also donated a private dance lesson as an auction item. Following a bidding war between Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun — the brother of Pencils of Promise founder Adam Braun — and two families in attendance, Braun let the families take the prize after they each bid $65,000 for the lesson.
[From Us Weekly]
Poppy Raymond? Because she?s kind of poppy-colored? I guess. Alright, that?s a cute name for a dog, and it does sound like it?s something kids would come up with. Have we ever discussed the fine art of animal-naming? I love giving my animals extravagant names, even when I was a little girl. I had a crazy cat named Zelda Fitzgerald and a sweet kitty named Princess Isabella (we called her Izzy). Right now my dog goes by like ten different names!
Anyway? yeah. I?m not a huge fan of designer dogs and I don?t understand why people don?t just get rescues. But considering it was for charity? I am going to cut Usher some slack. I guess.

After much back-and-forth, Usher has been awarded primary custody of his two children by a court.
The "You Make Me Wanna" singer had been in the midst of a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife, Tameka Foster.
During the drawn-out proceedings, Foster claimed that the 33 year-old engaged in drug use in front of the children and absent at times. Usher fired back that Tameka kicked him and spat on his then-girlfriend.
Despite Usher being awarded primary custody, Miss Foster will retain some custodial rights to the pair's young sons.
