Back in November 2012, Tara Reid was involved in a bar fight that nearly blinded her after she was “glassed” by a stranger. Now she’s in court testifying. Why am I just hearing about this now? Oh, that’s right. Probably because I didn’t care.
Court docs say Reid was out celebrating her 37th birthday at a London club that night. While sitting in her VIP section, a British model, Maryam Hassan, desperate for attention, kept bothering her and her group. Maryam threw her drink at Tara shouting, “you whore, you slut,” and Tara threw her drink back at her. Said Tara, “She went crazy, she went psycho like Naomi Campbell.” Maryam then smashed a glass into Tara’s face.
?I noticed a female who kept approaching the table a few times? She came up to me and threw the contents of her drink over my chest. I reacted immediately and threw my drink over her. It was so quick, she stood close to me within arms? length, and smashed the glass in my face.?
Tara also says Maryam shouted out some racial abuse to the bouncer who tried to break up the fight.
According to Tara, she couldn’t open her eyes because she was afraid she’d be blinded. She was rushed to the hospital and treated for a corneal abrasion. While she consulted with a plastic surgeon, it’s unknown whether any surgery was needed.
Unable to hypnotize the judge with her stomach ripples, Maryam was cleared by the Southwark Crown Court.

Can we just take a moment to discuss how weird it is that Julia wore the Proenza Schouler to a NYC premiere in December? I would be side-eyeing this choice if it was an LA premiere too ? it?s just too summery in general ? but it?s flat-out insane that she wore this in NYC! That being said, it?s a cute dress and it?s interesting to see Julia in something so short and figure-enhancing. She?s been wearing a lot of sack dresses recently, so this is a new look for her.
Speaking of sack dresses and clothing that makes her look pregnant (side-eye at that McCartney coat), several days ago TMZ had some photos of Julia and they started Bump Watching her. It was sort of rude (and I?m saying that as someone who doesn?t even like her that much) because? well, Julia?s had three babies and she?s 46. A pregnancy wouldn?t have been completely impossible, but at some point the tabloids and the gossip sites need to stop screaming ?BUMP WATCH? on people that have just eaten pasta for lunch. Anyway, when Julia appeared on The Late Show last night, Dave asked her if she was knocked up and she said no. Done. Here are some cute videos of her appearance ? Dave showered her in flowers:
Very cute. Dave just loves her so much. To be fair though, Julia doesn?t do interviews with anyone who doesn?t grovel at her feet.
Speaking of? where?s Meryl Streep? Meryl was not at the NYC premiere of Osage County and Meryl has been largely absent from the promotional tour thus far. The film doesn?t come out until Christmas and it?s possible Meryl is going to wait to do the big promotional push in January, but it still seems weird, right? Meryl is Chris Hemsworthing this promotional tour, and I kind of wonder if those stories about Meryl?s annoyance with Julia were dead on the money. Both Meryl and Julia scored SAG and Globe nominations this week though, so they?ll have to play nice at the awards shows. It should be a hotbed of girl drama, I?m sure.

She?s busy enough with a bustling movie career and an active family life, and now Angelina Jolie may have to appear in court as part of a lawsuit between her ?Mr. and Mrs. Smith? stunt double Eunice Huthart and News Corp.
Huthart claims her former employer intercepted her voicemail messages and she?s pushing to have her case heard in the State of California.
She explained, "Some of Plaintiff?s potential witnesses who are involved with her and/or [Huthart's company] Pump Fitness, such as Ms. Jolie, are located in California."
Eunice claims that she became close friends with Jolie and is actually the godparent to one of her children, so when News Corp began bugging celebrity mobile phones, they tapped into her own account and listened to voicemails that contained information about Angelina and Brad Pitt.
Furthermore, according to Huthart?s attorneys, News Corp?s interception of her messages damaged "her professional reputation within the California-based television and film industry. Because she did not receive messages, her professional reliability was compromised, and because confidential information from messages on her voicemail was published, her discretion and trustworthiness were compromised."

I wish this cover story had come out a few weeks ago, then I would have had an easier time believing it. As it is now, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have sufficiently pushed back on the breakup rumors to the point where I now believe that they will make it through the holidays. Whether they?ll make it to Valentine?s Day? Debatable. Whether they?ll make it to a wedding? Doubtful. But I think they?re in it for now.
As for this cover story, I haven?t read the full thing yet, but I?ve read some coverage and it seems like everything we?ve already discussed so far. The main gist is that Jennifer and Justin have been spending a lot of time apart ? not just apart, but in cities thousands of miles away. Justin has been spending a lot of time in NYC and Jennifer has barely left LA. And it will only get worse in 2014 when Justin begins the grueling film schedule for his HBO show ? I think HBO has asked for like 10-12 episodes or something, which means Justin could be working full-time in NYC for the better part of six months. And I think we know by now that Jennifer is totally ?over? New York life.
According to Life & Style, ?Jen and Justin have hit a rough patch. Right now, there are no wedding plans, no baby plans and no more buying houses together. Most of Jen’s friends expected this to happen because she’s usually with guys for two years at the most before they break up.? Ah, yes. The dreaded two-year itch. Which I guess is probably a real thing for some couples, sorry for making light of it. Two years is around the time when those little things you loved about your partner now start to annoy you. Two years is when make-up sex no longer solves your biggest fights. Also, I guess we?re saying that Justin and Jennifer have been together since December 2011 then? Good, I?m glad that?s been established. Now we know for sure that Jennifer and Justin were banging when he was still living with Heidi Bivens, right?

A few days ago, we discussed the seemingly out-of-nowhere British actor-beef between Damian Lewis and Sir Ian McKellen. Back in October, Damian gave an interview to The Guardian where he was discussing his early theater days and his dreams of doing TV and film work, and how worried he was that a film and TV career would never happen. He lamented the ?idea that I would be one of these slightly over-the-top, fruity actors who would have an illustrious career on stage, but wouldn?t start getting any kind of film work until I was 50 and then start playing wizards.?
Obviously, that was taken as a rather pointed slam against McKellen, who got around to saying something this week as he promoted The Desolation of Smaug. McKellen basically said that he was proud of his career in films and theater and that he?s glad film success didn?t come to him until later in his life. What I loved about McKellen?s reaction is that he didn?t whip out his IMDB or make some long list of his achievements ? he?s an acting legend and he knows that we know that. Anyway, Damian must have heard (or been told) about Ian?s reaction because Damian came out and issued a public apology, and apparently he?s apologized to Sir Ian in private as well:
The Homeland actor Damian Lewis has apologised to Sir Ian McKellen after saying he did not want to end up a “fruity actor” who is known for playing wizards.
Lewis, 42, admitted he was “hugely embarrassed” after McKellen, 74, who plays the wizard Gandalf in the Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit films, responsed acerbically in the Radio Times.
Lewis issued a statement on Wednesday night, saying: “I am hugely embarrassed that comments of mine have been linked in a negative way to Sir Ian McKellen. I have always been, and continue to be, an enormous fan and admirer of Sir Ian’s. He’s one of the greats and one of the reasons I became an actor. My comment in the Guardian was a soundbite I’ve been giving since 1999 ? it was a generic analogy that was never intended to demean or describe anyone else’s career. I have contacted Sir Ian McKellen and have given him my sincerest apologies.”
McKellen, one of Britain’s best-loved stage and screen actors with a career spanning decades, admitted that his performance in this year’s critically panned ITV sitcom Vicious was “over the top” but added that “no one needs to feel sorry for me” after Lewis described one of the reasons why he wanted to break out of the theatre.

See, I kind of think Damian?s apology (both public and private) is fine. I take him at his word that he wasn?t trying to pointedly denigrate Sir Ian. If you?ve read enough of Damian?s interviews, you get the hang of his rather blunt style of speaking, his acerbic wit and his lack of ass-kissing niceties. Damian?s gotten in trouble for this kind of thing before, and I think that?s just what this was – he was trying to be self-effacing and he came across as almost snide. Plus, this is a good lesson for other celebrities who speak out of turn ? issue a heartfelt apology (wrapped in a sincere compliment to the person you?ve offended) as you clarify your remarks which may or may not have been misinterpreted. Damian gets bonus points from me for not blaming The Guardian for ?misquoting? him.
