Do you remember that movie Jennifer Garner was in which was about how adults and teenagers were disconnected because of social media? It was 2014?s Men, Women and Children, written and directed by Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You For Smoking) and I?m not going to act like I watched it. I only vaguely remembered that it existed and that she?s already fielded questions about letting her children online. This is what she said about that at the time, which was eons ago in her children?s ages. At that time Violet was 8, Seraphina was 5 and Samuel 2.
I mean, we can?t keep in front of what our kids are learning or seeing or using, technology-wise. It?s happening before we can even?We?re all running to catch up, us stupid grown-ups! Thank goodness my kids are little enough that they?re far from having phones or iPads or anything.

My kid had an iPad at 8 but he was monitored and using specific apps. (He wasn?t watching those creepy YouTube videos of Elsa and Spiderman making out because they didn?t exist yet. Parents have even more to worry about now.) Anyway Garner was asked about her kids using social media now that Violet is 12. She said that they?re not on social media and that it puts a lot of pressure on kids when they?re vulnerable.

?Oh my gosh, I don?t know,? said the ?Peppermint? star. ?My kids don?t have any social media yet. And I am terrified. I think it puts so, so much pressure on kids at an age when they?re really vulnerable anyway. You know, if anyone has any clues, let me know.?
?I am probably overprotective,? admitted the actress.

?I think you can?t ignore the power of, the depth of a mom?s feelings,? explained Garner. ?And I think that you don?t have to be a mom to understand that.
?We?re all human, so for anyone, we all play ?The Joy of Motherhood,? ?The Beauty of Motherhood,? but to dig into the terror and the fear and the rage of motherhood was a whole new place. And that was part of what was so fun about this

Shes right and its smart of her to keep her kids away from social media, especially when theres so much information available about her family. There are a lot of pitfalls to social media and it does put pressure on kids while adding a performative aspect to their social lives. I hope her children do have supervised access to the Internet and that they?re not ?offline? as the lead-in says. The Internet helps kids connect and learn in ways we never imagined. We had the library and ?Schoolhouse Rock. Kids now have Khan Academy, Vsauce, Kurzgesagt and countless other teachers on demand. Plus they can share photos of their homework and work on it together. You can both protect your children from the bad parts of the internet while taking advantage of the best of it. I don?t expect Garner to express that kind of nuance in a quick interview, but it also doesn?t jibe with her ?Oh my gosh, I?m overprotective? persona.
It was good of Garner to add the caveat that you don?t have to be a mom to understand her character. She?s said things to the contrary before.

Of all the magazines out there, I barely pay any attention to CR Fashion Book, which is something like Carine Roitfeld?s pet project. It?s, like, more elite than Vogue and also kind of dumb in general. Roitfeld has a thing for Kanye West and Kim Kardashian too she?s featured both of them in CR Fashion Book multiple times over the years, sometimes together, sometimes separately. In the latest issue, Kim is featured separately from Kanye, and the photoshoot is? um, Civil War Ghost vibes. Literally. Kim described the shoot as being dressed up as a ?ghost from a simpler time.? Kim is about two seconds away from writing a post about the ?allure of antebellum,? I swear. You can see some of the photos below:

I honestly don?t know how people can concentrate on regular work and politics when this year?s US Open is pretty exciting. Everyone has their faves, and I understand if Roger Federer?s fans have already left the building (he lost in the fourth round). But it?s still really exciting. Yesterday, Juan Martin del Potro beat John Isner in the day-session quarterfinal. Defending US Open champion Sloane Stephens melted in the heat and humidity and lost in straight sets in her QF. Then the night sessions happened Serena Williams v. Karolina Pliskova, and then Rafael Nadal v. Dominic Thiem. Pliskova beat Serena in the semifinal here at the US Open in 2016. Serena started slow last night, but she ended up beating the pants off Pliskova. It was awesome. And then Nadal v. Thiem was a nearly five-hour, five-set epic that saw Nadal, the defending champion, prevail by a narrow margin.
It?s been interesting to see which celebrities come out. Obviously, Serena is a crowd-favorite in New York (and literally everywhere else) and that?s why she gets the more prestigious night time slots. Spike Lee was there, and he was interviewed on camera mid-match (he compared Serena to Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali). It seems like Joe Jonas was there with his fiancee Sophie Turner, and then Nick Jonas was there with his fiancee Priyanka Chopra. Double-date! The Hadid sisters were in one of the boxes too the Hadids are actually quite close to Serena, which is a friendship that always surprises me a little bit. Ben Stiller, who is some kind of mega-Rafa fan, was in Rafa?s box with his family until 2 am to watch Rada prevail. TENNIS!!

I?m an idiot who never took Latin. I thought ?lux? meant ?luxury,? as in that was the Latin root of the word luxury. But lux is Latin for light. And ?vox? is Latin for voice. So Natalie Portman?s new film is called Vox Lux, and that means Light Voice or Voice of Light. It makes sense because Portman plays a pop star who is off-the-rails, perhaps Britney-like, but it tells her story from the inside. Natalie executive produced the film and stars in it. It?s getting great reviews in Venice, and some are saying that another Oscar campaign could be in the works.
Natalie dressed the part of a potential Oscar-campaigner on the red-carpet premiere of Vox Lux. She wore this sparkly Gucci gown which could go either way. It?s DRAMA and fun and a show-stopper and it will get her on a million fashion blogs and in all the magazines. On the other side? the shoulders are bad and it?s really just an updated version of an ugly ?80s gown, the same kind of fashion disaster that you would have seen on Dynasty.
Natalie?s costar Stacy Martin wore Chanel Haute Couture. At first I only saw this from the crotch up, and I thought ?wow, Chanel made a surprisingly good sparkly jumpsuit.? But Karl Lagerfeld just has to screw it up somehow look at the bottom of the pant leg. UGH.
Another costar: Raffey Cassidy in Oscar de la Renta. I honestly don?t mind these princess dresses in Venice, in particular. Venice is like Cannes the bigger dresses really work on the carpet, because everyone has room to pose and look dramatic. I?ve never seen this girl in my life, but she reminds me a bit of Sophie Turner, right?

As I?ve said before, I couldn?t even keep Asia Argento?s story straight. I doubt she could keep her story straight either she seemed to be telling different people different things about Jimmy Bennett. We know that Argento, Anthony Bourdain and Argento?s lawyers arranged to pay Jimmy Bennett a private settlement of $380,000. We also know that Argento seemed to admit that she and Bennett had some kind of sexual relationship when speaking to other people, but that she denied that it happened in her own public statement. Bennett made a public statement after the news of a settlement came out, where Bennett spoke about not wanting to come forward because of the stigma of being a man or boy who is sexually assaulted. I believed him. I believed Asia Argento got him drunk and raped him when he was just 17. I believed that he had no desire to tell his story publicly, but as he saw Argento embraced by the Me Too community, he was left feeling unsettled. Anyway, Argento has more to say
Asia Argento says Jimmy Bennett who had sex with her when he was 17 years old is lucky she didnt file charges that HE sexually assaulted and then extorted her. Argentos lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, tells TMZ, his clients text messages that TMZ posted tell the real story about what went down at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Marina del Rey, CA. The text in question read, The horny kid jumped me I had sex with him it felt weird. She goes on to say she was frozen when he was on top of her. Heller says, Asia chose at the time not to prosecute Bennett for sexually attacking her.
As for her statement after the story broke I have never had any sexual relationship with Bennett Heller says she was being honest because it was a one-time only encounter and not a relationship.
Heller goes on to claim Bennett smelled a payday and tried to extort Argento, especially when he found out she was dating Anthony Bourdain. He says Bennett chose to intrude on that relationship and demand financial payment from Bourdain in consideration for not embarrassing Asia and indirectly Bourdain
Heller says Anthony chose to protect Asia by agreeing to pay $380k even though she did nothing wrong. And, Heller says, Bourdain paid $250k up to this point, but Argento will not pay the balance.
Heller ends by attacking Bennett, saying, Asia does not intend to prosecute Bennett for his conduct and recognizes that his unfortunate past, his stalled acting career, and a lawsuit against his own parents for allegedly misappropriating more than a million and a half dollars from his account might explain his desperation to seek money from Asia and Bourdain for this falsely alleged incident that took place more than 5 years ago.
The attack against Bennett is odd because Argento has spoken out against shaming alleged victims in sexual assault cases. Bennett claims he was indeed sexually assaulted by Argento.

I?m already really tired today so I?m not going to beat around the bush. Here?s what I think: I think Argento is a manipulative predator who sexually assaulted a 17 year old boy, then manipulated her boyfriend (Bourdain) into paying the kid off. I think she?s only saying Bennett assaulted her is because she doesn?t have the money to pay off the rest of the settlement. Maybe I?m wrong. But good God, this is gross. What she?s doing to this young man is really unsettling.
