Here?s a photo of Cate Blanchett backstage after she watched the smash Broadway musical Hamilton. Incidentally, Hamilton?s writer/director/star Lin Manuel-Miranda just won a MacArthur Genius Grant last week (HUZZAH!). Cate was in NYC for another reason though ? she attended a pop-up shop for SK-II, the skincare and beauty brand that she represents. She chatted with People Magazine about skincare ? which I actually found interesting because Cate usually doesn?t bang on and on about her endorsements ? plus she discussed something that amused me to no end: apparently, Cate never throws out old underwear.
On her underwear: ?[People] would be horrified if they could see my underwear drawer. I swear to God, the only reason I take jobs and do photoshoots is so I can get more underpants. I still have underpants my mother made me in high school. I just ? something about going to the lingerie section, I don?t know what ? I get overwhelmed, I never know what to buy. So I have the most embarrassing, embarrassing underwear. It?s so old at this point, it?s like, ?prison gray?.?
She used to try to get a tan: ?I have such fair skin and I used to go onto the rooftop covered in baby oil to try and tan. I did it for one summer and my mum said, you?re never going to be that girl, you?re only going to damage your skin. She was talking to me about skin cancer. So I then went goth instead. I went the other way: dyed my hair ? the whole thing.?
What she learned on the set of ?Carol?: ?I love a girdle.?
[From People]
Is the underwear thing gross? I?m really asking because my frame of reference is skewed. Mostly because I still have underwear from my college days. It?s not that I still WEAR underwear from my college days, I just have difficulties throwing out articles of clothing that are still ?good? (i.e., not completely falling apart). I still have t-shirts and pants from that era as well. Those old articles of clothing hang out in the back of the closet, or in the case of more-than-a-decade-old underwear, at the very bottom of the underwear drawer. My rationale (which makes no sense, I know) is that YOU NEVER KNOW when you?re going to have an underwear emergency and need your cheap panties from when you were 20.
Additionally, Cate is going to receive the BFI Fellowship at this year?s BFI London Film Festival. From what I can tell, the fellowship is like a lifetime achievement award. THR had a good write-up about how this year?s London Film Festival was going to be dominated by female filmmakers and films about women. Here?s hoping!
Here are some photos of Cate at LAX over the weekend. Those are some really frightening pants.

| Did Gisele Bundchen question her nannies about Tom Brady's behavior' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m still sort of obsessed with trying to figure out exactly what (if anything) Gisele Bundchen had done when she traveled to Paris for a burqa-clad visit to the plastic surgeon?s office. At the time, Page Six claimed she had gone in for a breast lift and some eye work. But is that all we?re seeing? As I said last week, if she did get face work done, it was quality work because she doesn?t really look that different. In the photos last week, she looked ?well rested? and in these photos ? taken over the weekend in Boston ? she just looks more sleepy-eyed than usual. So yes, I do think there was some eye work. Probably some breast work too.
You may notice that Gisele is still wearing her wedding ring in these photos. For what it?s worth, this is what I believe: I believe that Gisele and Tom really did have some big marriage problems over the summer, partly because of Deflategate and partly because of Nanny Christine, the Super Bowl rings and just general ?who you hang out with says a lot about you? that comes from being friendly with Ben Affleck. But I do think Gisele and Tom are fine or somewhat solid now. So? I?m not sure I believe this story, but it?s certainly amusing.
Gisele Bndchen is not going to let her marriage to Tom Brady fall victim to a nanny! Amid reports their relationship is on the rocks, especially after the NFL pro was photographed with Ben Affleck?s nanny mistress, Gisele has been giving her help the third degree.
A source told OK! magazine that since the photo circulated of Christine Ouzounian wearing Brady?s Super Bowl rings on a private jet, she?s questioning her own nannies.
“She asks what they do with Tom and the kids when she?s not around, and if he?s ever flirted,? a source said.
However, along with their other fights since the Deflategate scandal, Tom is not happy with her interrogations, saying it ?makes him look like a bad husband.?
As OK! previously reported, Tom and Gisele have been fighting since his birthday in August and the supermodel is ?at her breaking point? from all the pressure.
[From OK! Magazine]
Gisele has nannies?! *clutches pearls* First she would have to admit to having nannies, then she would have to admit that she side-eyes what Tom does when she?s not around. But sure, the general rule to follow: Don?t hire hot nannies. The end. The thing is, I?m not really sure if I believe Gisele would be so oblivious as to hire hot nannies in the first place. She?s not like Jennifer Garner, who was basically honey-trapping her husband.

| Claire Danes on 'homewrecking' Billy Crudup: 'I was just in love with him' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Once I stopped watching Homeland (last year?), I sort of got out of the groove of covering Claire Danes? interviews. In all honesty, it wasn?t a huge loss for gossip ? Claire?s interviews the past few years have been pretty boring and uneventful, so much so that I actually forgot that she?s lived through a few scandals in her day. Claire appeared on Howard Stern?s SiriusXM show yesterday and Stern brought the vintage gossip and drama. I actually learned some stuff about Claire that I didn?t know before, like she turned down the role of Rose in Titanic. Did you know that? I did not. Stern also made Claire talk about the Billy Crudup drama. Vintage scandal recap: Billy Crudup dumped his then-seven-months-pregnant girlfriend, Mary Louise Parker, for Claire. Claire and Billy were costars and she was just 24 and there was some stuff about how she was a ?homewrecker,? although to be fair? Crudup got most of the sh-t for that, as he should have. Anyway, here are some highlights from the Stern interview:
Being judged by the public for being a homewrecker: “That was a scary thing. That was really hard. I didn?t know how to not do that. I was just in love with him. And needed to explore that and I was 24… I didn?t quite know what those consequences would be. You never know. But it?s O.K. . . . I went through it.?
They dated for four years & there are no hard feelings: “But it?s okay. I went through it. We?re friendly, we?re friends.”
Why she turned down Titanic after doing Romeo + Juliet: “It seemed redundant.?
[From Us Weekly]
She also told Stern that she never hooked up with Jared Leto during or after My So Called Life, mostly because he?s seven years older than her (and she was just a teenager during MSCL). As for the Crudup stuff? I understand what she?s saying about how she just didn?t know how to NOT be in love with him. I can even see how a 24-year-old would have some kind of naivet about the sh-tstorm that her affair would bring out. But still? once a dude leaves his seven-months-pregnant partner, that is a HUGE red flag for any relationship, even if you weren?t the ?other woman? (which Claire completely was). And 24 years old is still very young, but that’s plenty old enough to know that you’re going to get a ton of bad press for having an affair with a dude with a pregnant girlfriend. Ugh. It?s still sort of amazing that Claire managed to get her public profile back on track after that.

| Bridget Marquardt's diamond engagement ring is spider-shaped: tacky or fine' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Some days, I?m actually sort of shocked to realize that I still remember so many details about Hugh Hefner?s Girls Next Door. Not only that but I actually still care a little bit about them. Like, I really want Kendra Wilkinson to leave Hank. I want Holly Madison to be happy and make smart life decisions. But honestly, I never gave Bridget Marquardt that much thought. Until now! Bridget is currently 42 (I think she gave up the ghost a while back and admitted her real age) and she just got engaged to director Nick Carpenter. They met at the Playboy Mansion in 2008 and they?ve been together ever since? Maybe. And Nick recently proposed? with a giant spider-shaped diamond ring. Photo evidence from Bridget?s Instagram:
I mean? if that?s what she wants, God bless. I actually don?t hate the ring? if it was being worn as just a cocktail ring. As an engagement ring, I do find it somewhat tacky. Apparently, Nick wanted to get her a traditional engagement ring and she?s the one who asked for something ?different & unique.? Bridget is also really into Halloween and ghoulish stuff (obvs, she dated Hugh Hefner), so I guess this ring ?suits? her personality. She also wanted people to know that the spider is ?not a black widow.? Here?s some other stuff that she told People:
?I wanted something different. The traditional rings were just really, really traditional and I just wanted something different, unique and special. We saw this and I was like, I love that! It?s not that I love spiders ? I actually don?t really love spiders that much ? but it?s not that and it doesn?t represent that to me. It just represents my personality more and something different for our relationship.?
?He took me up to a waterfall that we always used to hike to in L.A., and he totally faked me out with a fake spider ring in the dirt. I was like, That?s weird,? she says of Carpenter?s ask. ?Long story short, I went to put the ring back because it wasn?t mine ? I just thought it was cool that it was there ? and I turned around and he was on one knee with the real ring. It was really sweet,? says Marquardt.
[From People]
I don?t understand? They were obviously looking at rings together and she obviously told him that she wanted the spider ring or something non-traditional? and then he ?surprised? her with a proposal? Eh. It?s not worth the brain power it takes to unpack that. Congrats to the happy couple and I hope she doesn?t hate the ring in a few months.

| Rachel Weisz: We demand women be 'likeable in a way that's not asked of men' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Rachel Weisz covers the November issue of Harper?s Bazaar UK to promote her quirky new film, The Lobster. If you?ve seen the trailer (at the end of the post), you have some kind of idea what the film is about. It?s like? rom-com dystopia. Single people are given 45 days to find a soulmate (or simply a ?mate?) and if they can?t find anyone in 45 days, they?re turned into an animal of their choice. Colin Farrell is one of the single people (and he would like to be turned into a lobster) and he meets Rachel Weisz?s character, who is I guess living outside of the now-conventional society. It seems like a weird and lovely little film. Anyway, there aren?t a ton of quotes from Rachel?s Bazaar piece, but here are some highlights:
She?s uncomfortable talking about acting: ?You tend to sound like a bit of a jerk.?
Working with Colin Farrell. ?I saw him in Cannes. He?d lost all the weight. But he?ll always be that lovely, pudgy, tender sweetheart to me.?
Sexism and difficult women: ‘I?ve noticed in my career this tendency towards wanting women to be likeable in a way that?s not asked of men. I don’t understand how that’s happened. You know, if you look back at Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis ? they were difficult, difficult women, and they were iconic and worshipped.’
She hated her 20s: “In your teens you think nothing is impossible. Then in your twenties you realise everything isn?t possible. I think in your thirties you get more confident about who you are and I find that a relief. The twenties are excruciating. At least they were for me, anyway.?
[From Harper?s Bazaar UK & The Daily Mail]
The likeable thing is definitely pretty tricky. I get the impression that Rachel is talking about women feeling the need to be ?likeable? in real life, or in their media-spun images. Which is true, actresses feel the need to not only be likeable but relatable like never before. The problem I have is that this whole ?likeable? thing has moved into film and television too, where it?s nearly impossible to have a female character who is terrible or complicated or vicious or somehow not relatable or unlikeable.
Here?s the trailer for The Lobster. I think Colin excels at playing losers, you know? I also think he?s an underrated romantic lead.
