| Kristen Stewart in Chanel at the Met Gala: 90s goth camp realness? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kristen Stewart has long been a brand ambassador for Chanel and they dress her for so many events. She was one of the few women wearing pants on the red carpet last night. I would call this look 90s camp goth and because Im a 90s girl I really like it. Kaiser does too. This is a fancy sequin version of those too-long too-loose skater and she paired them with platform sneakers, platform mary janes (I think theyre mary janes they could just be sneakers), a ton of chains and jewelry and pink-tipped hair. This is fun and its campy. Its just camp from a more recent era than some of the other looks.
Lily Rose Depp also represents Chanel. She was in a formfitting black gown with chain embellishments. She carried a metallic purse but this is crying out for tackier medallion jewelry or a giant ugly purse. Ooh could you imagine if someone did a homage to Cher from Clueless? This is lacking.

| Miley Cyrus in Saint Laurent at the Met Gala: '80s villain or camp AF' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Someone on E! News said that Miley Cyrus was a million times more ?camp? during her Bangerz period than she was last night at the Met Gala. They made a good point back then, she was a buffet of kitchy excess and pop culture madness. For the Met Gala, she went pure ?80s in this Saint Laurent ensemble. I sort of understand what she was attempting: campy ?80s villain in a teen movie, right?
Zoe Kravitz in Saint. Laurent. I mean? I get what she was going for, but I think she could have done way better.
Demi Moore in Saint Laurent. Not camp at all. Not really trying to be.
Shawn Mendes in Saint Laurent. Just think of how he really could have camped it up, instead we get this sort of boring faux-Elvis look.
Sienna Miller in Paco Rabanne. I don?t really get it, is the look supposed to be ?cokehead camp??
Ezra Miller understood the theme and it?s freaking me out! This is Burberry.

| Emily Blunt in Michael Kors at the Met Gala: needs a little something or perfect? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Emily Blunts default style can be campy. Remember the crazy Dolce & Gabbana jacquard suit with the giant bowtie she wore to the Writers Guild Awards? So I guess Im expecting a little something more from her other than a sh-tton of gold sequins, but this is quite fun and I love those layered metallic flowers, which are very 60s and 70s. I think shes wearing just one false eyelash. Shes having a good time.
Tiffany Haddishs Michael Kors silver sequin leopard print bell bottom suit was just awesome. This is tacky and its campy. I didnt even recognize her with that blonde wavy hair. She showed the E! reporters the chicken she had in her purse because they dont have enough food for people. She was there last year so she knows. How do they not have enough food at that event? I dont get that at all. Do they put the food away early, like at the Golden Globes? Look at her posing like a boss.

| Gisele Bundchen in Dior at the Met Gala: 1970s disco or just off-theme? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Much like Gwyneth Paltrow, Gisele Bundchen rarely follows the Met Gala theme. If you were being generous, you could say that Gisele does vaguely try to stay ?on theme, but PRETTY,? although mostly she just opts for whatever dress caught her eye that week. I feel like that?s what happened here. Gisele was one of the handful of Dior-clad women at the event, and it?s clear that Dior customized this look for her, probably to her specifications. I think she was aiming for Cher, honestly. She was aiming for ?70s disco/Studio 54 faux-camp realness. But it didn?t work so she just went for ?pretty.? I do legitimately love the skirt of this Dior I love a well-done pleated fabric, and the way this dress hangs is divine. The top of the gown is a mess though, and it does Gisele no favors (it makes her chest look especially ?worked on?). Tom Brady was there too, looking like a goon.
Bless her, Cara Delevingne?s Dior look was ON POINT. I was surprised that more women didn?t lean into the camp theme this way Cara looks great and fun, which is the point.
Priyanka Chopra also wore Dior, and I think Nick Jonas? look is Dior as well. I truly have no idea what Priyanka was going for, at all. I?m just? at a loss to even describe this??

| Ciara in a Dundas showgirl gown at the Met Gala: nailed it? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The Dundas people sent us press releases for a few of these dresses before the Met Gala, which we always appreciate. Their description for Ciaras gown calls this a custom embellished gown with ostrich feathered hem paired with matching embellished gloves, belt and choker. She paired it with an emerald crystal head piece by House of Malakai and custom sandals by Gianvitto Rossi. This is showgirl camp, its incredible and her styling is just right. Her hair caught my eye on the red carpet and the overall look is just outstanding.
Poppy Delevingne was in a Custom Dundas black tailored jacket with embellished cigarette trousers, embellished tuxedo belt with a gold paillettes and crystal encrusted floor length coat. That coat really makes this outfit. I think her sister Cara got the theme a little more, but this is also awesome and very 70s.

| Kim Kardashian in custom Thierry Mugler at the Met Gala: damp camp? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The Kardashian-Jenners are inherently camp, in that they are excessive, tacky and the opposite of classy. They live a camp lifestyle in their everyday lives. So perhaps it?s the height of camp that their interpretations of the Met Gala?s camp theme was so? off? I don?t know. They could have walked the Pink carpet in old Juicy Couture sweatsuits and looked more on-theme. I get that they were actually trying though, especially the Jenner sisters.
First, let?s talk about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Despite reporting otherwise, Kim and Kanye?s fourth child is not here yet! That?s why they were in New York for the gala. Kim wore Thierry Mugler, and she bragged on the carpet that Mugler basically came out of retirement just to design her ?coming out of the ocean? wet cat(face) look. Truly, she?s supposed to look damp. Is the theme Wet Cat though? I don?t know, because of Kim?s inherent campiness, I was expecting something different. Don?t even ask me what Kanye is wearing? Yeezy sweats?
Kendall & Kylie Jenner both wore Versace and I guess they were aiming for Cher/Bob Mackie/?70s costume. I think Kylie comes the closest to pulling it off, whereas Kendall?s styling throws off the look. Kendall actually looks like Cher, you know? She could have gone in full Cher drag with a center part and her hair down and crazy makeup. But Kendall wanted to look ?pretty.?

| Gwyneth Paltrow wore a sad sack Chloe to the Met Gala: creepy doll nightgown? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Is there a bigger ahole than Gwyneth Paltrow? Chica never follows a theme. What?s weird about it is that it?s almost like she?s making an arrogant effort to go VERY far away from the theme every time she does attend the Met Gala the hot Pink nonsense at the ?punk? themed gala, the nothingburger pale Pink cocktail dress at the Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garons-themed gala. That last one was in 2017, where she attended after throwing a hissy fit years prior about how much she hates the gala. Well, she?s back. And she wore a Chlo dress which looked like a creepy doll nightgown. If I was being generous, I would say that her camp interpretation was ?1970s Valley of the Dolls? MAYBE, but since I?m never generous to Goop, I?ll say that she just looks like a dumbass.
I friggin? LOVED the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch understood the camp theme. This was not Bendy?s first time at the Met Gala, and I feel like he actually tries to stay on-theme and he really thinks about it. His look was just so? great. Like a pimp Tom Wolfe. His ensemble is Labassa Woolfe. Bendy brought his wife Sophie Hunter who interpreted the theme as ?Renaissance Faire reject.?
For all of the bitching and moaning she?s done about how much she hates the Met Gala, it?s amazing that Lena Dunham manages to face her ahole demons, year after year. This year she and Jemima Kirke went together, and they both wore Christopher Kane. It?s camp and it?s tacky, so they got it right. But just prepare yourselves for more interviews about how Lena is SO OVER it and she?s never going again, only to show up in 2020.

| Lily Collins claims the ghosts of Ted Bundy's victims visited her | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|

In addition to taking on the role of JRR Tolkien?s wife in Tolkien with Nicholas Hoult, and Fantine in the BBC?s version of Les Miserable, Lily Collins plays Liz Kloepfer, Ted Bundy?s girlfriend, in Netflix?s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Liz was a single mom when she met and fell for Bundy. According to the film, it wasn?t until he sat on death row that Liz was able to fully free herself from his clutches. So how does one prepare for such a role? According to Lily, she had help ? in the form of Bundy?s victims? ghosts who haunted her at 3AM each morning. If you listened to yesterday?s Gossip with Celebitchy podcast, you?ll know that hanging out with ghosts is one of my favorite things to talk about.
Undoubtedly the darkest of her recent projects is Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, about the serial killer Ted Bundy, who murdered more than 30 girls and women in seven US states in the 1970s. The title comes from the judge?s summation of Bundy?s acts when sentencing him to death. Collins plays Elizabeth Kloepfer, the killer?s long-term girlfriend who is convinced of his innocence, with Zac Efron playing a charismatic and persuasive Bundy.
While preparing for the role, over the Christmas holidays, Collins recounts how she would wake every night at 3.05am. ?I would go downstairs and have a cup of tea, trying to figure out why I had woken up again.? Then, she says, ?I started being woken up by flashes of images, like the aftermath of a struggle.? She went to the internet to investigate. ?I discovered that 3am is the time when the veil between the realms is the thinnest and one can be visited.? She began to believe women who were murdered by Bundy were, perhaps, trying to contact her. ?I didn?t feel scared ? I felt supported. I felt like people were saying: ?We?re here listening. We?re here to support. Thank you for telling the story.?
Collins tells me all of this in a completely matter-of-fact manner, as if receiving messages from long-dead murder victims were a perfectly normal part of preparing for a film.
[The Guardian by way of DListed]
I?ve actually heard mention about a boundary between this world and the afterlife being thinner at certain times. I didn?t know it was a daily thing, though. I imagined it was something that happened at certain times of the year or after major events like earthquakes and floods or when failed TV stars get elected to the White House. What does one offer to a spirit at 3AM? Coffee and donuts seems trite, but it?s just too early for scotch. I?d love to know if Lily believed in ghosts before they started supporting her career or after.
I had to leave the jokes up there because although The Guardian?s interview with Lily is actually pretty good, her comments about Bundy?s victims didn?t sit that well with me. I watched Extremely Wicked over the weekend and was impressed with Efron?s performance. Lily was good in her role as well. I was aware of Bundy through my parents during his trials and execution and researched his crimes later for a script. When the movie begins, the authorities are already looking at Bundy as a perpetrator. The angle the story took was how people reacted to Bundy, whether they were swayed by his charisma or infuriated by the fact he had that effect on others. The horror of his crimes is conveyed with little to no visuals and even though they are prevalent in the story, they are not sensationalized for the sake of entertainment. Although Lily?s perception of Bundy?s victims reaching out to her to thank her is a pleasant one, it walks the edge of exploitative. I very much want Bundy?s victims to have peace, I?m just not sure an early-morning Lily is the one to give it to them.
Thank you to DListed for making us aware of this interview!

CB and I are both fans of Busy Phillips talk show, Busy Tonight. Busy honed her skills as an interviewer and brought out the best in her guests, getting them to tell not only personal stories but random things we?d never heard before. Her show feels comfortable, like a late-night gabfest with a fun friend. Now that I?ve sold it to you, let me break your heart, E! is not airing the showing after May 16. Busy made the announcement on both Instagram and Twitter Sunday night:
View this post on Instagram
It?s the perfect dress for both the Ren Fair AND to let you know my show Busy Tonight won?t be returning to the E network after May 16. You can see me talk about it in my stories if you?re interested. But yeah. We have 8 more shows on E and then who knows what the future will bring. ??

| Hailey Baldwin in Alexander Wang at the Met Gala: tacky Barbie realness? | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

There were many ways to interpret this year?s Met Gala?s theme ?Camp? and I guess I was surprised by how many women just went for ?Barbie gear.? Hailey Baldwin was one of those Barbies, only I would argue that Hailey was one of the BEST! From the high, bleached-blonde ponytail to the too-dark fake tan to the exposed thong of her dress, everything about Hailey?s look was so spectacularly dated and tacky and PERFECT. Hailey worked with Alexander Wang on this look and I?m shocked to say that she utterly nailed it.
Someone else who nailed it? Elle Fanning in this delightful Miu Miu look. You could tell that she was having fun with it, and she looks like a drag queen?s favorite doll. Her nails! Her orange tan! Her pants! I love it all and she looked like she was having so much fun!
Emma Roberts tried to go for Big Barbie vibes, I think, but this Giambattista Valli is more like? fairy queen/ruffled extravaganza. I mean, it?s big and tacky, but I actually think Emma?s styling let her down? Big ruffles could be super-campy, but the styling edged it more towards ?ethereal fairy queen? drag. Which is camp-adjacent but not really camp?

| Celine Dion was delightfully campy in Oscar de la Renta at the Met Gala | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

If there is one celebrity who IS camp and who lives a completely camp life AND who can interpret a ?camp? theme correctly, it?s Celine Dion. And Celine completely delivered at the Met Gala. She looked like she took the best of 1970s Cher, threw in some Liberace, and added a dash of Thor: Ragnarok. Delightfully campy, showy, extravagant, and extra. Celine is a queen and it shows! This ensemble is Oscar de la Renta and it?s amazing. You could tell that she was having so much fun with this. Did anyone see her BFF/lover Pepe?!?! Was he there?
Regina King in Oscar de la Renta. This would have been so much better in a different color, right? Imagine this dress especially with the ruffles/shoulder detail in a turquoise or hot pink. It?s the weird beige-y gold that doesn?t work here.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also wore Oscar de la Renta. I mean, the feathered cape/coat/whatever is extravagant and campy, but I feel like Rosie?s normal styling just makes this a ?pretty? look rather than a campy look. She could wear this to the Oscars and look perfectly normal, and probably even make all of the best-dressed lists.
