Yesterday was Kourtney Kardashian?s 42nd birthday. It appears that in lieu of renting a small island or private club and packing it with their friends and hanger ons, Kourtney decided to spend her birthday at home. Since Kourt was home for the occasion, it allowed her boyfriend of four months, Travis Barker, to make a bit of a fuss over her. Travis spoiled the heck out Kourtney with a lavish floral display that featured her favorite flowers, hundreds of tulips and gardenias.
While the small things certainly matter in a relationshipthe larger romantic gestures are definitely pretty sweet.
On Saturday, April 17, a day before she celebrates her 42nd birthday, Kourtney Kardashian posted on her Instagram Story a video showing an enormous and extravagant arrangement of at least white 200 tulips displayed on a floor in her house and resting underneath a hanging installation of other white flowers. She tagged her boyfriend Travis Barker in the clip, adding a black heart.
The Blink-182 drummer later reposted the video, which features SZAs emotional song Quicksand, whose lyrics deal with relationship insecurity.

Lord knows the Kardashians love their flamboyant floral displays. Travis Scott was constantly flooding Kylie Jenner?s house with roses. Kayne was also fond of these sorts of gestures for Kim. Now Kourtney has one to add to the Kollection, yay! Kourtney has plenty of shots and videos in her Instagram stories, including from friends and family whom Kourt must have invited over. A couple of screen grabs are posted below. The display is a multi-tier affair with gardenias descending from the ceiling over a giant bed of softly bending tulips. It?s all white except for the natural green of the stems, leaves and some moss. If I remember currently, Kourtney has a black and white front area so ties right in. Kim said in her video that the entire house smells of this arrangement. Of the IGs I saw, no floral designer was tagged but I am so impressed they can handle that many gardenias and not brown a leaf. I can?t even walk past the plant in my yard without at least three turning at the tip. I assume when you have the money to afford one of these arrangements, you can afford to have someone come in and provide upkeep. I love both tulips and gardenias but neither hold up well once cut.
Clearly this is a lavish display of both wealth and devotion. I have gone on record about my conflict when it comes to cut flowers. I absolutely love flowers and floral displays, but I know they are falling out of favor due to the environmental impact. I do love how the house smells too. I mean, I wouldn?t know to this degree, but at least when you walk by a nice bouquet. In this case, Travis knew exactly what Kourtney wanted and got her gift just right so bravo to him. Travis and Kourt just got back from Utah with their kids as well, so things are pretty solid with them. Travis, of course, just got Kourtney?s name tattooed on his chest so you know things are getting serious. I keep going back and forth whether I think they will last as a couple. I still don?t know but I hope they do. I think Travis and Kourtney work together. I also think they might stabilize each other. I know that sounds weird considering the subjects, but Travis recently opened up about his horrific plane crash in 2008 and it clearly redirected his life. I think Kourtney could be influenced by someone like Travis. I?m pulling for these krazy kids. Travis continued the birthday grand gestures with an effusive IG post dedicated to the birthday girl on Sunday. Things seem good. My only concern, when a source commented on the relationship to People, they said of Travis, He is very into her. He constantly gives her compliments and attention. You can tell he is thrilled to be dating her. When they spoke of Kourtney, they said, Kourtney still seems very happy with Travis. Kourtney is soaking it all up and enjoying life. I wouldnt exactly call those comments equally weighted.
As for the birthday flowers, I guess the ball is now in Tristan Thompson?s court. Lord help us.

The actress Helen McCrory passed away on Friday after a years-long battle with cancer. Very few people knew about McCrory?s battle beyond her family and close friends, which makes it feel like her passing happened very suddenly and out of nowhere. Helen was devoted to the theater, long after her husband Damian Lewis went all-in on film and television work, primarily in America. They managed to raise two children in the UK and America, splitting their time between work and family. Helen was 52 years old, and she and Damian had been married for nearly 14 years. Their children, Manon and Gulliver, are 14 and 13 respectively. Damian wrote a lengthy, emotional tribute to his wife this weekend:
?As I sit down to write this, I can hear Helen shouting from the bed, ?Keep it short, Damian, it?s not about you?,? Lewis wrote in a new tribute shared by The Times. ?I?ll try, but on a weekend when the papers, rightly, will be paying their respects to the Duke of Edinburgh, thousands of others around the world have been remembering m?Duchess, my Little One, royalty in her own right. And I?d like to throw in my tuppence worth??
?She was fiercely proud of being an artist, an actress. Her OBE, recognition of her exquisite talent, made her so happy. Her craft was something she approached with a rigour, an honesty, an intelligence that made others rise to meet her, but she never imposed herself, because she loved collaboration, whether that was in film, TV or theatre. But as she said to me a few weeks ago, ?Doing theatre is what made my heart sing. Many people have spoken about her career and many more will, so that?s where I?ll leave it, because it strikes me that two things are happening this weekend: an outpouring of grief and shock, and a celebration of Helen McCrory the actress from fans everywhere, and of Helen the person. And that?s who I want to talk about.
?Helen was an even more brilliant person than she was an actress. She was a people person, sure. ?I?m much more interested in who I?m with than where I am,? she would say, and innately wanted to share. But she also lived by the principle of kindness and generosity. That you put these things out into the world to make it better, to make people feel better. I?ve never known anyone so consciously spread happiness. To say ?please? and ?thank you? and ?you?re so kind? as much as she did. Even when dying in her last few days, when talking to our wonderful carers, she repeatedly said, ?thank you so much? in her half delirious state.?
?One nurse at the Royal Marsden told me once they actually looked forward to Helen coming in because she made their day better. Asked how they were, cared about their home lives, spread joy, made them laugh. Helen would say, ?Well, their job?s much more difficult than mine.? And she was dying. She understood anger, used to tell the children not to be afraid of it. ?It?s a positive emotion when you use it right.? And she had her fair share of it, let me tell you. She could be magnificently angry, imperious, dismissive. Gloriously. But also happy. Always. Some people believe happiness is a right, some people find happiness difficult. It?s an elusive emotion. Helen believed you choose happiness.
?I?ve never known anyone able to enjoy life as much. Her ability to be in the present and enjoy the moment was inspirational. Nor was she interested in navel-gazing. No real interest in self- reflection; she believed in looking out, not in. Which is why she was able to turn her light so brightly on others.?
?She?s left our beautiful children, Manon and Gully, too early, but they have been prepared for life. They have in them the fearlessness, wit, curiosity, talent and beauty of their mother. She has exhorted us to be courageous and not afraid. As she said repeatedly to the children, ?Don?t be sad, because even though I?m about to snuff it, I?ve lived the life I wanted to.?
?She has been utterly heroic in her illness. Funny, of course ? generous, brave, uncomplaining, constantly reminding us all of how lucky we?ve been, how blessed we are. Her generosity has extended to encouraging us three to live. Live fully, take opportunities, have adventures. Only a couple of weeks ago she said to us from her bed, ?I want Daddy to have girlfriends, lots of them, you must all love again, love isn?t possessive, but you know, Damian, try at least to get through the funeral without snogging someone. Already I miss her. She has shone more brightly in the last months than you would imagine even the brightest star could shine. In life, too, we had to rise to meet her. But her greatest and most exquisite act of bravery and generosity has been to ?normalise? her death. She?s shown no fear, no bitterness, no self-pity, only armed us with the courage to go on and insisted that no one be sad, because she is happy. I?m staggered by her. She?s been a meteor in our life.?

This made me cry. I never really paid much attention to their marriage, but it sounds like he utterly adored her, as did everyone who came in contact with her. The grief and memories just came pouring out of him and he sounds so raw. And now he has to raise their two children without her. It?s heartbreaking.

Amanda Seyfried is doing her last minute Oscar push before the ceremony next weekend. She?s still Zooming out of her barn in upstate New York but I assume she?s getting ready to fly out to LA since the Academy is insisting theyre too fancy to have people show up virtually. Since attendance is so limited, I hope its just going to be Amanda and her husband Thomas Sadoski making the trip and she leaves her kids at home with her mom, who is their nanny. The reason I hope Amanda leaves the kids at home is so she can get a good nights sleep, the poor dear. Amanda has two kids, her daughter, Nina, who is four, and her son, Thomas, who is six months old. While on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Amanda told Stephen that she hasn?t slept in two months because she?s trained him to need a warm body to fall asleep on.
On being nominated for an Oscar
It?s the second highest award in the land to be nominated, I don?t care if I win. The nomination is enough. I mean it until I get there.
How she prepared for the role
I read Citizen Kane the script. I watched Marion Davies?s [films]. The Philadelphia Story is still my favorite black and white movie. Laurel and Hardy. I didn?t want to imitate anybody and I wanted to feel grounded. I got to do the New York accent.
On if she was prepared for her second child
I didn?t read up on anything. I?m just going with the flow. I haven?t slept for two months.
[When he gets tired] I put him on my chest and I let him fall asleep with the warmth of my body. He cannot fall asleep unless there is a warm body. I have trained him to do the opposite of what I trained my daughter to do. I have failed.
I?m scared that when I put him in his crib after he?s asleep that something bad is going to happen. I?m still in that phase. I hate it. Remind me to never have another baby.
On if she agrees with Cher that they should do another Mama Mia
Definitely. If it was up to me there would be eight Mama Mias.

I was both excited and confused when Amanda talked about The Philadelphia Story. TPS is my favorite comedy of all time, I can?t tell you how many times I?ve seen it. However Marion Davies isn?t in it. Mank wrote it so I guess that was Amanda?s reference for her prep. But how she strung her answer together tripped me up until I realized, she?s talking like a mother of a six-month-old who hasn?t had any sleep. Boy, I remember those sleepless months. They were awful, I don?t care how many rose-colored baby memories I paint them with. I kind of remember that crib fear, too. All the baby books and classes train you for the worst-case scenario and those blended with sleep deprivation just add up to crazy making. I?m sure her anxiety and OCD are helping to compound the problem as well. I hope a little distance will help her relax. It?s funny, though. Amanda talked about the baby needing to fall asleep on a warm body and my first thought was ? let him sleep on Finn! But Finn probably has stuff to do, I realize.
The discussion on Mama Mia was great. Amanda said ?the story has to be there, of course? and Stephen just shut her down, saying everyone is just there for the music. He said the movies are just ?a champagne party and then people show up and sing your favorite songs.? That should absolutely be the tag line for the next film. They go on to suggest future casting and Amanda suggests Hugh Jackman and now all I can think about is: how the hell has Hugh Jackman not been cast in Mama Mia yet?
