Katharine McPhee and David Foster, who just welcomed a baby boy, will celebrate their second wedding anniversary this June. They?ve been romantically linked since 2016. They?ve known each other, however, for about 15 years, meeting when Katharine was 22 and David was almost 56. May/December romances have always caught the public?s attention, so it?s not surprising that Katherine and David?s 35-year age difference comes up often. Katherine recently spoke on a podcast about their age difference. She reminded people that things are not always what they seem. Of course, Katherine is talking about the perception and not the actual difference because there is definitely three and a half decades between these two.
Katharine McPhee is opening up about her relationship with David Foster, sharing how the married couple combats negativity surrounding their 35-year age gap and how theyve prepared for parenthood.
We all have the ability to label things and to look at something for the way that it looks or face value and make a judgment. So I totally get the judgment initially, but things are never as they appear, things are never exactly as they appear and I?m in love with our love story and thats all that matters, the 36-year-old singer and actress told Dr. Berlin during an episode of Informed Pregnancy Podcast of her relationship with Foster. But it didn?t just happen overnight. We had a real journey and I had a real process.
Still, when it comes to the judgment that the couple faces from outsiders, McPhee expressed that the negativity seems to be focused on her perceived role in the relationship.
The perception of what people try to create, especially with women, its always the woman?s fault. Its the woman who wants to be with the older man because he has money and hes had success and she wants this, that. I mean, our storys been the complete opposite, she said. Every once in a while it feels good to give [trolls on social media] the finger. But for the most part, we really don?t care. [Foster] will say every once in a while, Eventually, were just going to look normal to people.
McPhee explained, There was never one day that I doubted my decision to be with him. Even if we had an argument or whatever, I?m so crazy in love with him and so grateful. But it?s not just in love with him, I loved being around him before we were even married.

In the interview, Katharine acknowledges that the odds are not in their favor, given the statistical success rates of multiple marriages. This is David?s fifth marriage and Katharine?s second. However, she credits the counseling she and first husband, Nick Cokas, did at the end of their marriage as to how she?s making it work with David. She said she learned to approach their relationship differently to avoid the usual pitfalls. I?ll give Katharine credit for being self-aware about why her and Davids relationship has our attention. And her marriage to Nick imploded, so I?m sure it was some pretty intense therapy.
I do agree with Katharine that in the young wife/old geezer relationship, it?s the woman who?s scrutinized. The old man just wants a PYT on his arm and that?s somehow fine, but that gold-digging hussy keep your eye on her! With Katharine and David, its David I?ve side-eyed more. He seems like a man who needs a woman who will make him look good, but won?t eclipse him. Or, in the case of his last marriage, ask too much of him, like, say, being allowed to recover from a major illness. I think that?s what took him so long to marry Katharine, he had to make sure the press wouldn?t put her before him, like they put his Housewife days before his Grammys. Which makes me almost feel bad for Katharine if her comments about being crazy in love with him are true.

Last October, we learned that Katharine McPhee was expecting her first child with husband David Foster. There was a lot of interest in that story for a couple of different reasons. One, Foster is almost twice Katharine?s age. She?s 36 years old, he?s 71. The second thing was that Foster already has five daughters, all of whom are adults. His youngest daughter is 34. His oldest daughter is 50. And now David Foster, 71, is finally the father of a son. Katharine gave birth to a boy this week.
Katharine McPhees baby has arrived! The Smash actress, 36, has welcomed her first child, a son, with husband David Foster, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.
Katharine McPhee and David Foster have welcomed a healthy baby boy, the rep tells PEOPLE. Mom, Dad and son are all doing wonderfully.
Sources confirmed to PEOPLE in October that McPhee and Foster were expecting. At the time, the couple were spotted in Montecito, California, having lunch and shopping for baby buys.
The couple tied the knot in June 2019 after first meeting in 2006, when Foster mentored McPhee and other contestants on season 5 of American Idol. Foster is already father to daughters Sara, 40, Erin, 38, and Jordan, 34, whom he shared with second wife Rebecca Dyer, and daughters Allison, 50, and Amy, 47, from previous relationships.

He finally ?got a boy.? And Katharine was the one to give him a son. It brings a tear to my eye, because I remember the good old days when Katharine was wrecking Mary McCormack?s marriage.

We learned in October that Katharine McPhee and David Foster were expecting their first child together. ?Together? being the operative word there, because David, of course, has five other children from his numerous earlier relationships. However, we stupidly didn?t pay enough attention to Katharine?s announcement that she secured her meal ticket was experiencing the magic of pregnancy, because now she?s on Instagram playing games with us about how many miracles she?s currently gestating. On Wednesday, Katharine posted this photo to her IG page:

Katharine McPhee and the cast of SMASH are reuniting tonight to stream 2015s Bombshell in Concert to benefit the Actors Fund which helps Broadway actors struggling for resources. The whole cast is coming back, including Debra Messing and Leslie Odom, Jr. and Renee Zellweger is introducing the show. While promoting the benefit to Access Hollywood, Kit Hoover asked Katharine about a throwback photo she?d posted in January 2019 of herself and Meghan Markle when they attended the same performing arts school. Katharine said Meghan was in high school, the same class as her sister, while Katharine was in middle school so they weren?t close friends back then. Years later, when Katharine was performing Waitress in the West End, she and husband David Foster connected with the Sussexes at a fundraiser. She claims Prince Harry and David formed a very special relationship, one in which David has become a father figure to Harry.
Breaking it all down! Katharine McPhee gave some insight into her husband David Foster?s friendship with Prince Harry as well as her history with Meghan Markle.
?When I was in London doing Waitress [on the West End], we went to a big charity event. Me and David just put ourselves in a position where we could just at least say hello, and they were really gracious,? the American Idol season 5 runner-up, 36, told Access on Monday, May 18.
?My husband has, like, a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry,? she continued. ?They?re so cute. They?re like father and son. We just stay in touch with them.?
She also spoke about Foster, 70, helping the Duke and Duchess of Sussex find a house in Canada to rent in December 2019.
?We just want them to end up wherever they feel safest and happiest,? she told Access. ?I had very little to do with that [Canada home]. David?s the one who?s the resource guy. He knows all the places. He loves to help people. We just hope they end up somewhere where they feel like they can really settle down.?

Kit asked Katharine about the relationship, so I don?t think Katharine was exploiting it or anything, but the story is so random. Mainly it sounds like this very special relationship all started about a year ago when she was doing Waitress, so that was? fast. As far as I can make out, neither Katharine nor David attended the Sussex wedding. But maybe Harry and David just got on like a house on fire from the beginning. As far as David releasing the information that he?d helped them with their Canadian retreat last year, I find it kind of funny how many famous people want their names attached to the Sussexes? residences.
I?m sure David and Harry do have a nice relationship, but I am also sure that folks are working extra hard to get their names in the same sentence as both Harry and Meghan. I do find Katharine?s phrasing interesting, though. Katharine is speaking about Prince Harry and her husband?s relationship as ?father and son? when Harry is only six months younger than Katherine herself. Were I Katherine, I would probably try to stay away from any parental analogies when referring to my spouse?s relationship with someone my age.

It?s a magical moment for Katharine McPhee and David Foster. They are at the exact moment in time when she is exactly half his age. She?s 35 years old and he?s 70. They were married this summer, the last weekend in June, the same weekend Zoe Kravitz and Sophie Turner had their (separate) weddings. I mean, I think Katharine is a total mess for marrying someone twice her age, but what makes it worse is that she is David?s FIFTH wife. Mess.
Anyway, Katharine and David stepped out for a (relatively) rare coupled-up appearance this weekend at the 2019 Breakthrough Prize Ceremony. This is where celebrities are invited to honor scientists and doctors and engineers and such. I mean? she looks older than 35. That?s what being married to a 70-year-old will do to a woman.
Also in attendance: Drew Barrymore looking like a predatory photographer from 1976, Karlie Kloss giving me preggo vibes and Lenny Kravitz looking absolutely HOT.

American Idol alum and actress (Smash, #neverforget) Katharine McPhee and music producer David Foster have been romantically linked since at least September and they’re still going strong. They were spotted together in West Hollywood on Monday night and caught a LA Lakers basketball game on Sunday. A game attendee who saw the couple told E! News that ?They seemed to be having fun. They were chatting with the people in the seats next to them.” The source added that he or she ?Didn?t see them kiss or hold hands but [they] certainly seemed like they were into each other and the game.?
Katharine is 33. David is 68. I?m (as always) not saying anything about the age difference, as I believe it?s really just a number. It?s no secret that Katharine likes older men – her ex-husband, Nick Coker, is 52, so it?s not completely absurd for her to be dating David. The two share a love of music, so I can totally see them enjoying each other?s company. An insider recently told US Magazine that the two were ?casually dating,? noting, ?They are just having fun right now, but they have such a great chemistry and really connect organically on so many levels. There is potential for things to escalate in the future. They were working together and things blossomed as they worked closer with one another.?
Katharine is on the cover of the December issue of Health magazine. She talks body confidence, admitting that she?s ?really loving? her abs right now, confesses that she?d love to work out with Khlo Kardashian and admits to indulging in the occasional slice of pizza or glass of red wine. When it comes to her love life, Katharine, who insists ?I?m pretty single,? had this to say about dating and her relationship with David:
On what she?s looking for in a relationship:
Someone?s who?s spontaneous and adventurous, who?s ready to just go do something?or let you go do it at the drop of a hat. I?m so independent now; I wasn?t really that independent when I was in my 20s, so I need to be with someone who has their own life.
On the rumors she?s dating David, helped along by his daughter Erin who called the couple ?my parents? on an Instagram post in September:
So we were sitting there at the table, and she said, ?Do you wanna, like, do a thing?? And I was like, ?OK.? So I mean, we were in on it. She?s so funny ? I mean, you saw what she wrote about “my parents.” Truly, you think that?s how she?d announce it? On Instagram?
On her relationship with David, in a nutshell:
We?re very close friends, and we?ve been friends for a long time. I?m really, really fond of him, and I think he?s an incredible person. I?ve known him since I was 21 years old, you know? He produced my first single. So he?s been really good to me. People can say whatever they want.

For his part, David, who has been married four times (wife number three was Linda Thompson, whom you may know better as the mother of Brody and Brandon Jenner), isn?t afraid to give marriage another go. The 68-year-old told PEOPLE that ?It?s quite obvious by my track record that I love being married, so I wouldn?t say no to being married again. I like the concept, I?m just not that good at it.? (You and me both, David.)
However, there have been accusations that this relationship is fabricated to help get David a follow-up to his previous reality outing, The Princes of Malibu (which starred his stepsons Brody and Brandon). The accusations, made by a source to RadarOnline also point to Katharine reviving her singing career with the lead role in a proposed Betty Boop musical and a new pop album, which David is allegedly helming. I don?t think that latter accusation has any legs, as the Betty Boop musical has been floating around, unproduced, for years.
Whatever the reasons for their union, it appears they?re enjoying each other?s company, so let?s just leave it at that for the moment.
