In April of this year, we learned that Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler were ending their marriage. The couple had just posted some ridiculous shots about being ?forced? to quarantine in the Bahamas, claiming they were caught unaware. When they were finally able to escape their stunning Bahamian vacation home set in paradise-like surroundings, the couple returned to Chicago and very soon after announced their split. At the time, it seemed to come out of the blue, like something had happened in the Bahamas that broke them up. But Kristin told People that?s not the case, that this split was been a long time coming. However, Kristin said the decision to take their relationship off life support was still, ?the hardest decision Ive ever made.
For three seasons, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler were the epitome of #CoupleGoals for fans of their hit show Very Cavallari.
But in April, just weeks after they returned from the Bahamas with their children, the spouses of seven years shared shocking Instagram posts revealing their decision to separate.
Now, Cavallari tells PEOPLE exclusively that she and Cutler, 37, had been struggling privately for years ? and they made a conscious effort to keep their marriage woes hidden.
I always thought it was interesting when people would refer to us as couple goals, says the Uncommon James founder, 33, who is releasing a new cookbook, True Comfort, on Sept. 29. I was like, If you guys only knew.
As their marriage hit a crisis point during filming last season, we definitely kept a lot of stuff private, she adds. Producers saw stuff, but they didnt put it in the show ? which is good, because I dont want my kids to ever [see that].
While their split announcement seemingly came out of the blue, it didnt happen overnight, Cavallari says of their breakup. We tried really, really hard for years and years. It was the hardest decision Ive ever made.
As for what went wrong? Every relationship has their stuff. I met Jay when I was 23. I was a baby. Jay and I had so much love for each other, but we grew up, she says. When you work at something for so many years and nothings changing, I think you have to just make a decision. We all want to be happy.
Three years ago, Cavallari signed up to star in Very Cavallari in the hopes of expanding her then-fledgling jewelry company, which has since expanded into home and apparel. After the shows premiere, Uncommon James sales exploded ? but the spotlight on her personal life also intensified.
After three seasons, the reality show is ending, and Im just relieved, Cavallari says. I just knew I was going to have to talk about everything, and I didnt want to. Thinking about filming was giving me anxiety.
My kids are the most important thing to me. Whats best for them? she continues. Probably not doing a reality show, having to talk about divorcing their dad.

When the new of their separation hit, it really seemed like this was going to be one doozy of a divorce. Kristin tried to float several stories simultaneously, like that they?d decided to divorce several times prior but also that she was blindsided by Jay?s filing. Then Kristin started dropping hints about Jay being the issue, between his making her cry all the time to being lazy and unmotivated. Following all that, a loving Mother?s Day tribute to Kristin appeared on Jay?s IG, that may or may not have been arranged by Kristin herself. For his part, there were rumors Jay was cheating with Kristin?s ex-best friend. And then there were the stories about him and Tomi Lahren that blew up in his face fast. But after a month of what looked to be a full-fledged war, the couple calmed down and we really haven?t heard anything since. So I have two theories: 1) is that Kristin was desperately trying to control the narrative on this story. Soon after they announced the divorce, Kristin?s show, Very Cavallari, was not renewed and Kristin framed it to sound like the decision was hers. She reinforced that in this interview as well, that she pulled the show for the well-being of herself and her family. I do think it will help not to have cameras around during this time, but like her marriage, the show was in trouble before it was cancelled. Plus, Kristin is pushing the #couplesgoals narrative here. I don?t know anyone who held Jay and Kristin?s marriage up as their relationship goal.
My second theory is that Kristin?s accusations were just a good old fashioned case of emotional lashing out. This theory is supported by her admission that ending her marriage was the hardest decision she?s ever had to make. Any divorce is a huge decision, even if there is no love left. Merely dividing the life you?ve built together seems overwhelming enough to hold off on leaving. And if there are kids to consider, it can magnify the pain. So not only was she trying to deflect blame publicly, she was probably trying to assuage her own guilt. I am glad, however, that Kristin and Jay have taken their divorce private, at least until they get their stories straight.

Kristin Cavallari did an Instagram live interview with a celebrity stylist named Dani Michelle, who has a clothing line called Revolve. I didn?t watch the whole thing, that would have been an hour of my life I would never get back, but during the random segments I fast-forwarded to they were both shilling their products. Kristin was talking about her Uncommon James jewelry line. She was also modeling some of Dani?s clothes and mentioning how versatile they would be in lockdown, and how people need new key pieces. Kristin also revealed some details of her quarantined lifestyle. She used to wake up at 5am (ditto, although I still do it) but now is sleeping later and she?s letting her kids co-sleep with her. One of them gets to stay with her in bed a night. She has sons Camden, 7, and Jaxon, 6, and daughter Saylor, 4.
Kristin is currently living with her hair stylist, the guy she went on vacation with to the Bahamas, Justin Anderson. I guess she?s only doing that until the purchase of her $10 million Nashville compound goes through. It?s for her kids, because they need that much space to make memories, how many times does she have to explain this? (She didn?t talk about that in the interview as far as I know, I?m just being a sarcastic bitch/doing my job.) Heres what she said, thanks to US Magazine:
?I?m at my friend Justin?s house right now. We?ve been together for the entire quarantine time, literally from day 1,?
?With my kids, it?s, like, ?All right, what should we do today?? We?ve maxed out every creative idea,? the Hills alum said. ?I used to wake up at 5 a.m. every morning, work out and then I would get my kids ready for school, take them to school and go to the office. I haven?t set an alarm since all of this has been going on. It?s going to be really hard for me to get back into it. I don?t know that I can go back to that 5 a.m. lifestyle.?
?Because of my kids, I get up from anywhere between 6:30 and 8. I don?t normally let my kids sleep with me, but I?ve been rotating my kid for the last week,? she said. ?It?s cute but those are the moments that will never be the same, we?ll never get those back. So in that sense, I?ve been trying to really enjoy that time with my kids.?
?I will tell you, the no school thing is tough. With the boys, Jaxon will not listen to me. He refuses to do work. I?m like, ?I can?t fight with you about doing schoolwork.? It?s too hard.?
?My kids are young so that?s nice. My boys are 7 and 6 so it?s not the end of the world if they?re not sitting here doing schoolwork every day but everyone?s going a little stir crazy because we really can?t go anywhere.?

Kristin has been with Justin from Day 1 because that?s when they left to go to the Bahamas for a couples? vacation with Justin and his fiance and her now estranged husband, Jay. She must not have mentioned Jay?s lazy ass in this interview or the outlets would have reported that. Thank you to whomever watched this whole thing to get to those quotes. Kristin does this job well I have to say. She does an hour long sponcon for her products, talks a little about her kids, and then all the outlets cover it. I wonder when well get the next sourced story about how Jay is being obstinate while co-parenting, followed by a denial.

Do you know how Ive been saying that Kristin Cavallari is leaking stories about her divorce from Jay Cutler, only to deny the story in another story, thus ensuring she keeps her name in the press? Its still happening. Page Six ran a story that Kristin thought Jay was loafing around the house after he retired from the NFL in 2017 and that she found that annoying. They had a ton of details and quotes and it looked straight from Kristins publicist. It read:
Kristin found [Jay] ?unmotivated? and even ?lazy? ? while he found that he had a penchant for hanging out with their three kids and menagerie of animals on their Tennessee farm.
?She was growing increasingly impatient with him. He was supposed to take this big job at Fox Sports and have a life after football that would get him up off the couch and do something,? said an insider. ?Instead, he backed out ? this is [three] years ago ? and joined the [Miami] Dolphins. That didn?t pan out well, and he was left with no TV gig until she got the show for them.?
The source added that Cavallari ?views herself as very polished and put together, and [Cutler as] this lazy, unmotivated guy.?

Of course someone then denied that to US Magazine a day later:
There is ?no truth ? whatsoever? to reports that the reality star, 33, split from the former athlete, 37, in large part due to his refusal to get another job, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. On the contrary, the insider says the couple just ?fell out of love.?
Cavallari, in fact, did not even harbor ill feelings because of Cutler?s step back from his career. ?Kristin never had a problem with him retiring,? the source reveals. ?She didn?t find him unmotivated or lazy.?
?She never criticized him about not working or not working hard enough. She didn?t care.?

ET has another story, told from Jays perspective, about how Kristin was working really hard and he wanted more time with her. The work life balance was said to be an issue in their relationship. I dont want to get too into the weeds with these people I care absolutely nothing about. Im already annoyed at having to read all this about them, but earlier in the week I wondered if theres a team at E! working to get them more press. It could be a team that Kristin hired too, and that shes angling for another season of her reality show. It might just work.
Oh and Kristin is buying a $5 million dollar estate near Nashville with two houses on it. Its all for her kids though, remember? A source tells people Shes trying to minimize the impact on her kids, so shed love to bring them someplace really nice, really welcoming, really special where they can start putting down roots and make memories. She needs to have a $5 million dollar place for memories!

Earlier this week, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler both posted the same flowery BS statement on Instagram that they were divorcing with love and respect for one another. That was not supported at all by their separate divorce filings, which had different separation dates. Kristin also cited inappropriate marital conduct by Jay as a reason for divorce. (According to experts cited in US and People, TN is a fault state so that could mean any number of things including adultery, drug use or abuse. It doesnt have to be nefarious.) As Hecate pointed out yesterday, theres a rumor that Jay is about to join CBS as a football commentator, which might motivate him to file quickly so Kristin doesnt get her hands on that contract money. E!, the network that airs Kristins reality show, reports that Kristin was blindsided by Jays filing on Friday and thought that they were doing ok and working things out. Theyre also living in the same house still, albeit in different areas.
Things are very tense between Jay and Kristin right now, explains the insider. They are on opposite sides of the house and only communicate in regards to the childrens needs. They have barely spoken since the Bahamas trip. Its really a power struggle between the two of them.

Now, were told Kristin and Jay are gearing up for a custody battle regarding Camden, 7, and Jaxon, 5, and daughter Saylor, 4. Another source says the Uncommon James CEO is planning to fight for full custody because she feels she can raise the kids in the safest environment.
For now, Kristin and Jay are keeping their distance. Prior to their official split, which we now know was a long time coming, the source says they were separately splitting their time between the main home and other residences while the kids remained together.
Shes very upset over all of this and is leaning on her close friends right now and focusing on her businesses. Kristins work is keeping her spirits up and shes very proud of her accomplishments, something Jay never acknowledged, the source notes.

I?d completely forgotten that Kristin Cavallari and husband Jay Cutler sold a realty show called Very Cavallari. I actually kind of like that name, although this world needs another reality show about as much as salamander needs Wellingtons. As Corey reported when the show sold, it?s a more of a Kristin-centric show her new shop, her life in Nashville, how she juggles home and business, etc. Even though the original talk was it was a show for Kristin and Jay, I guess he?s only an addendum, which is fine. I mean, what?s he going to do, teach us how not to complete a pass?
However, since the beginning, Kristin has made it clear that her children would barely be featured on the show. And according to her latest interview with Giuliana Rancic, that is still the plan because she believes they should get to make that choice on their own.
Kristin Cavallari is returning to reality TV with her new show Very Cavallari. However, you wont see her three kids?Camden, Jaxon and Saylor?appear on the show.
The Laguna Beach star explained the reasoning behind the decision while walking the red carpet at NBCUniversal Upfront 2018.
I dont even really show my kids on social media, The Hills star told E! News Giuliana Rancic. Theyre 5, 4 and 2. When theyre old enough to make that decision, thats one thing. For right now, I just want to keep them kids.
However, fans will get to see Cavallaris husband Jay Cutler on the show. Although, she said their relationship isnt driving the show. Viewers will also get to see Cavallari as a best friend, an entrepreneur and a star on E!.
Its really everything in my life, she said. The beauty about this show for me is its not solely based on my relationship with Jay. Thats not whats driving the show. Its about my 24-year-old staff. You know, Im relying on them to bring the heavy drama. So, its the best of both worlds for me.

Kristin does post pics of her kids on her social media a lot but not full-face photos. Mostly, they are photographed from behind. This famously led to Kristin being accused of starving her children when a group of people decided to over-analyze her childrens backs in swim trunks. I?m curious how they will avoid showing the kids since her being a mother is part of the tagline for the show. And one thing I know about children that age is that if you tell them, ?Listen honey, do NOT turn around and definitely don?t look into the camera,? that will be their very next move. But, as she said, she thinks the kids should be allowed to choose whether to go public or not when they are old enough to decide that. I think that?s a very smart choice on her part and I applaud it. Especially since it shows a healthy evolution from when she was offering fans a photo of baby Jaxon if they bought her app.
I?m also interested in Kristin?s comment, ?its about my 24-year-old staff. You know, Im relying on them to bring the heavy drama.? I couldn?t figure out what she was referring to until I saw the trailer that?s posted below. Kristin hired a bunch of, I assume 24-year-olds, to launch and run her shop, Uncommon James. The trailer would have us believe the opening is a disaster and everything is going up in flames. And maybe it is, because that?s what happens when you hire a bunch of girls who look (and sound) exactly like you based on their age and not experience.
Here is the trailer for Very Cavallari. Man, Jay does not look like he wants to be doing this.

A familiar face is returning to reality television. Hills alum Kristin Cavallari has signed on for a new series, currently in production for E!
A source tells US of the new, as yet untitled, series, ?They are filming a reality show and started last week. It focuses on her life in Nashville and the store that she?s opening. It?s focused on her and the people working at her store.? Kristin is in the process of opening a retail location for her online jewelry brand Uncommon James, posting a want ad for employees on her Instagram last week.
