When I read the complete Vanity Fair interview with Jessica Simpson, I just ended up feeling sorry for my girl. And no, I still can?t really explain my strange affection for Jess, other than some vague feeling that although she?s not very bright, she?s not mean or vicious. So, I want Jess to do well. And I want her to find her place. In the Vanity Fair article, Jessica seemed out of sorts - even though she?s not really a failure, she has failed at quite a lot. One of her most successful business/career ventures to date was most likely the MTV series, Newlyweds. So Jessica (and her pervert father) have decided she will return to reality television.
This time the reality show will have a social message. Jessica and a friend will travel the world ?in search of what people find beautiful and why.? The show will be called The Price of Beauty. It actually sounds like an interesting concept for a reality show - but I do believe Oprah has devoted a few episodes to the exact same thing, so it?s not really Jessica?s original idea. Still, good concept, and just picturing Jessica and one of her space-cadet friends traveling the world and trying to interact with people from other cultures is bound to be both informative and hilarious.

The new issue of Us Weekly reports that Jessica Simpson — who endured much body bullying in January for performing in a pair of unflattering high-waisted jeans — recently visited some TV networks to pitch a reality series about society’s scrutiny of women’s bodies.
The premise of the program, titled The Price of Beauty: “She and a friend set off on a road trip around the world in search of what people find beautiful and why,” says a source.
(In a recent Vanity Fair cover story, Simpson talked about criticism of her figure: “It comes with what I do, and I know that every day the media’s going to challenge me.”)
The insider continues that the onetime Newlyweds star, 28, will be hands-on with the show — and will even try some of the “shocking things that women do to make themselves beautiful. Picture Fear Factor.”
The singer’s rep tells Us, “Jessica is indeed working on a new show, but network details have not been finalized at this time.”

I?ve always found it interesting what sort of physical characteristics other cultures value. For example, there has been a lot of criticism and press in the past few years in India, as critics point out the way the Indian media, Indian cosmetics and Bollywood have glorified lighter skin tones for Indian women. It?s gotten to the point where rich Indian women can go in for cosmetic surgery procedures to lighten their skin - probably not so unlike the stuff Michael Jackson has done to himself.
Another example would be in Iran, where after hundreds of years of ?traditional? Persian beauty, which often included what is thought of as a ?classic nose?, Iran has become the nose job capital of the world. As Iranian women are exposed to more Western media, they go in for nose jobs to lose their larger noses.

Jessica Simpson, who was battered by media coverage about her weight earlier this year, is apparently aiming to make lemonade from lemons: The singer/actress is reportedly shopping around a new reality program that focuses on society's scrutiny of women's bodies.
According to Us Weekly, Simpson recently paid a visit to several unnamed networks to pitch a reality show titled "The Price of Beauty." The premise, according to an anonymous source, is that Simpson and a friend "set off on a road trip around the world in search of what people find beautiful and why."
The source said that Simpson, 28, whose marriage to ex-husband Nick Lachey was famously chronicled on MTV's own "Newlyweds" reality show, will be very hands-on with this series, including trying some "shocking things that women do to make themselves beautiful. Picture 'Fear Factor.' "
A spokesperson for Simpson could not be reached for comment at press time.
An unnamed rep for the singer told the magazine, "Jessica is indeed working on a new show, but network details have not been finalized at this time."
Simpson, who attempted to relaunch her music career last year with a country album, was recently on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, in which she discussed the difficulty of the fallout from those unflattering concert photos and the criticism of her up-and-down weight throughout her career. "It comes with what I do," she told the magazine. "And I know that every day the media's going to challenge me."

That would be a good play - let?s see Neil Simon write that scene, you know?
Daniel Craig, a k a James Bond, and Hugh Jackman, aka Wolverine, will team up in a new play this fall on Broadway, The Post has learned.
The drama, “A Steady Rain” by Keith Huff, is about two Chicago cops whose lifelong friendship is put to the test when they become involved in a domestic dispute in a poor neighborhood.
Craig, whose Bond movies “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace” are among the highest grossing films of all time, will be making his New York stage debut. He started off in the theater in London, playing bit parts, but he has not appeared in a play in several years.
Jackman won a Tony Award in 2004 for his role as Peter Allen in “The Boy From Oz.”
Although the musical received mixed reviews, Jackman became a box-office sensation, shaking a pair of maracas and flouncing around the stage in tight leopard pants.
“The Boy From Oz” regularly grossed more than $1 million a week. Jackman became the most sought-after leading man in the theater, though he’s turned down every offer to star in another show until now.
“Everybody wanted him to do a musical, but he wanted to do a serious play,” a theater source says.
Barbara Broccoli, who oversees the James Bond movie franchise, is producing “A Steady Rain.” She arrives in New York from Europe this weekend to scout out Broadway theaters, sources said.
The daughter of legendary James Bond producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, Barbara Broccoli produced “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” on Broadway in 2005.
It was a $10 million flop. She should do better this time around.
Theater sources say Craig and Jackman have the potential to match Broadway’s biggest box- office champ, Julia Roberts, who sold over $10 million worth of tickets in just 12 weeks in the play “Three Days of Rain” in 2006.
Although “A Steady Rain” is harsh and harrowing, one Broadway wag predicted that even those theatergoers whose tastes run to splashy musicals will want to see it.
Said the wag: “Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman in police uniforms? All the boys will be there!”

Yes, I would see that play. The only thing bad I could see for this production - other than my fear of no scenes with any nudity - is that Daniel Craig won?t get to use his natural, beautiful English accent. He?ll have to sound like he?s from Chicago - maybe he?ll use Rod Blagojevich as inspiration? That would be the real crime. Oh, and by the way, to all of the Arrested Development fans, ?hot cops? was a reference.

Sienna Miller has started the publicity rounds for G.I. Joe, which is probably going to be her ?comeback role? after maybe breaking up with married man Balthazar Getty. Sienna is talking about how much fun she had working on G.I. Joe, and how great it was to play a villain. Which surprised me, because I didn?t know her character ?The Baroness? was a villain. But when I was a kid, I was always a bigger fan of ?She-Ra: Princess of Power? and ?Gem and the Holograms? rather than G.I. Joe, so I learned something today. The Baroness is not a heroine. Good to know. Sienna also talks about how she loved playing with machine guns. Hmm… Sienna Miller with a machine gun. Wives, girlfriends and nannies beware.
Sienna Miller says she was freaked out by the fan interest in her character in action movie G.I. Joe - and was also at first terrified by the director Stephen Sommers.
Miller plays the gun-toting leather clad Baroness (pictured above). She said she’d previously been unaware of the G.I. Joe franchise - based on a line of action figures.
She said: “I thought it was all about this one guy called Joe who was a G.I.! But I loved the idea of being in a movie that was action-filled and fun and different to anything I’d done before.?
“I didn’t feel like a big villain until I got my machine gun. But then I thought: ‘Right, I can get into this!??
She’s also discovered her character already has a fan base: “She’s an iconic character. I’ve been Googling her a lot and seen that a lot of people go to Halloween parties and ComicCon dressed as her. It’s terrifying, but being the first person to tackle her on screen is great.”
Asked if she enjoyed working with director Stephen Sommers, she said: “Have you met him? He’s like zoom, zoom! At first I was terrified but then you get him, you get his rhythm.?
“It’s about having fun. We’re not trying to win awards for acting. You go in and deliver what you’re supposed to and look cool while you are doing it.”
Miller said her skintight outfit with holsters and boots was “so different to how I normally look.”
She told this month’s Total Film magazine:”That helps when you’re creating a character - the more different you look, the more different you feel. I’ve got green contact lenses too, I don’t recognise myself.?
“[My character] used to be good but then a series of circumstances caused her to lose faith in life and in a lot of people she trusted. It’s been confusing at times but I think fundamentally she’s a villain, a femme fatale. She’s a pretty nasty piece of work.”
She added: “Rachel Nichols and I have one of the toughest girl fights I think people will ever see. I mean, it’s chains and it’s brutal, nasty, dirty fighting - proper boy fighting.”
Miller’s character is a spy and a baddie who is part of the evil Cobra organization. Nichols’ character is Shana O’Hara - codnename Scarlett - who is the intelligence expert for the G.I. Joe team.

If Sienna really gets the comeback some are predicting because of this movie, I will be shocked. The rumor going around a few months ago was that the producers were cutting Sienna?s scenes considerably, so it?s interesting to see her front and center promoting the movie.

A lot of people say Adriana Lima is one of the hottest Victoria’s Secret models, but I don’t see it. She looks a little rat-like. Not like Alessandra Ambrosio or Heidi Klum. Britney Spears appears in a faux ad for a supposed new eighth fragrance she’s putting out called ‘Mo. The pop singer promises “one spray and the gays will run your way.” It’s not a real perfume at all, but a viral ad for the LOGO network’s NewNowNext Awards, which are advertised in a small text window to the upper left of the video.
The NewNowNext Awards were hosted by Rupal and will air on the Logo Network on Saturday, June 13th. Britney, Lady Gaga, Vanessa Williams, and Eve are among the celebrities who made appearances in the pre-taped show. Britney was honored with a special award which “pays homage to gay icons,” the Always Next, Forever Now Award. You don’t really hear much about former teen star Melissa Joan Hart of “Samantha The Teenage Witch.” She had a couple of sons with musician Mark Wilkerson and did some made for TV movies like “My Fake Fiance,: an ABC family special about a woman hiring a guy (Joey Lawrence) to pretend to be her fiance. (I never saw it, but I’m sure they end up falling in love in the end.)
Hart shows up occasionally at events and in paparazzi photos but she’s not in high demand. That’s why it seems odd to see her in a bikini on the cover of People. People has been focusing on weight loss and gain on their cover lately, and these type of issue seem to sell well for them. The 33 year-old mother of two lost 42 pounds and that’s no small feat. Her body looks great and she kind of radiates that “friendly mom” vibe. I know this is awful to say, but I can’t help but snark about her hair! She’s on the cover of People - what is going on with that half-crimped flyaway style? Those short side bangs are awful. Anyway, our friends at CoverAwards said they didn’t even recognize Hart at first:
People Magazine has a few things going in its favor this week.
First, it?s People Magazine. You?d be surprised how many people simply buy this magazine because its logo is plastered on the top of the issue. (How long that lasts? That?s a good question.)
The next big win for People is that it convinced yet another star to pose in a bikini after losing weight.
Plus, a diet cover is always a stable seller on the newsstand - and People lucks out this week as it is the ONLY diet cover in the category.
So what?s wrong with this cover?
At first glance, I had no idea who this was on the cover - and that?s BAD!
Melissa Joan Hart is by no means an A-Lister and I really hadn?t heard too much about her weight gain before seeing this cover.

Cover Awards also posted this past People cover of Valerie Bertinelli. Bertinelli is posed sexier and also offers the angle of losing weight post-40. Still, Hart can be commended for her accomplishment while she’s running around after two boys. A lot of us can relate to weight gain with kids and this cover seems to offer hope for the rest of us moms still struggling with the pounds. People’s stylist should be ashamed, though. Her hair is a mess. (I can be a hair snob so I asked MSat about it - she also thinks Hart’s hair needs work.)

Katy Perry was doing an interview with 2DayFM and they asked her who she would shoot, shag and marry? She said she would marry Pete Wentz because he seems like a good dad, shoot Benji Madden because someone has to go down and she would shag John Mayer. Nothing will stop Katherine Heigl from thinking she?s God?s gift to Hollywood. After a tumultuous several years where Heigl badmouthed her first major star-making film (Knocked Up) and sanctimoniously declared that she was taking her name out of Emmy consideration for Grey?s Anatomy because of bad writing, the diva still hasn?t learned her lesson. It turns out Heigl was just about to sign on to a ensemble romantic comedy directed by Garry Marshall called Valentine?s Day, but Heigl was dropped from the film because she demanded a multi-million dollar paycheck.
A three-million dollar paycheck is actually what Heigl probably gets per film - but this film was a special case. It?s an ensemble, and the actors on it would be working, at most, two weeks. At the lower end, they could be working three days. So if I wanted to be harsh, I could say Heigl wanted $3 million for three days of work. A spokesperson for Heigl also claims it was Katherine who walked away, that she wasn?t dropped like a bitchy hot potato:

Sources say the actress, whose just-concluded season on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” might have been her last, was dropped from a top-tier ensemble cast in the upcoming romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” because she demanded an astronomical salary.
The flick, which is scheduled to be released in February 2011, is directed by Garry Marshall and has signed such big names as Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Shirley MacLaine and Bradley Cooper.
An insider told Page Six, “Producers at New Line originally had Katherine on their casting list. They wanted her for the project, but during the talks, she came back demanding $3 million for the role.”
Our source calls that number “ridiculous” because the movie has “an ensemble cast where there is really no one lead role. Actors are only filming between three and 14 days, and no other actors asked for nearly that amount.”
A rep for Heigl told Page Six, “The story is ludicrous. Early negotiations are a daily occurrence in this business, and just for clarification, Katherine walked away from this project for multiple reasons.” A spokeswoman for New Line had “no comment.”
It’s not the first time Heigl has come across as a diva. In 2007, after “Knocked Up,” she told Vanity Fair the Judd Apatow-directed movie “paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. I had a hard time with it on some days.”
She also caused a commotion when she withdrew her name from consideration for last year’s Emmy race, slighting the “Grey’s Anatomy” writers by saying, “I do not feel I was given the material this season to warrant a nomination.” Heigl, whose character was dying of brain cancer, did enter herself in this year’s awards nominations.

On the scale of least offensive to most offensive Katherine Heigl moments, this doesn?t make the top register. Part of me thinks that someone on the film was just doing a hatchet-job on Heigl for the hell of it, that there were probably legitimate contract negotiations going on that fell apart. But another part of me wants to see Hollywood distance itself from Heigl - she?s not a great actress, she perpetuates this diva drama, and she?s not worth the trouble. Blonde romantic-comedy heroines are a dime a dozen, and yet Heigl pulls the diva act all of the time. Ten bucks says that Kate Hudson gets the role intended for Heigl.

Josh Brolin and Diane Lane went through a “rough patch” a few months into their their marriage when Brolin was arrested for domestic battery in December, 2004. Both Josh and Diane claimed that the incident was blown out of proportion. Although Diane called the police her rep claimed that she “did not want to press charges and asked [police] not to arrest [Josh].” It’s unclear what happened exactly, but they said that the arrest was a formality after the call was made and that they were “embarrassed the matter went this far.”
I’ve always kind of suspected that Brolin had a harsh temper behind closed doors, but that assumption probably wasn’t fair based on that one report. Now there’s a story that suggests Josh might be cheating on Diane. He was supposedly witnessed making out with a woman at a bar in New Orleans, and she was seen doing the walk of shame outside his place the next morning. Is this story true or is it just wishful thinking by a tabloid hoping for an exclusive?
Josh Brolin is married to one of Hollywood?s most beautiful women, but In Touch can exclusively reveal that the Oscar nominated star of Milk was spotted getting cozy with another pretty woman other than his wife, Diane Lane. On May 21, Josh, who is on location in New Orleans filming Jonah Hex, partied at the Royal Street Inn with local Melissa Green ? then took her back to another location to hang out at 11:35 p.m. The next morning, at 7:23 a.m., ?They left together,? a witness tells In Touch. ?Josh looked like he hadn?t slept at all. She was wearing the same outfit as the night before and looked embarrassed.?
According to the witness at the Royal Street Inn, Josh arrived at the bar around 8:30 p.m. with his driver and met up with his director, Jimmy Hayward, and some friends. After doing a shot of whiskey, the actor chatted with several female fans. ?He was hugging them and seemed to enjoy all of the female attention he received for hours,? the witness tells In Touch. ?He even gave one woman that he seemed to connect with a long hug.?
Josh?s flirting looked innocent enough until Melissa, 30, came to the bar at 10:30 p.m., wearing sexy short shorts and boots. Even though the two were surrounded by people at the bar, ?Melissa sat in his lap, and they were kissing each other on the mouth,? the witness reveals. ?He nibbled her ears and was caressing her. He was tickling her as she wrapped her legs around him. They looked a little too close for comfort.? An hour later, his driver took Josh (whose rep strongly denies the story) and Melissa to a private location. ?They didn?t seem to have a care in the world,? the witness adds.

The only photo In Touch has on their website for this story is a blurry far away picture of Josh laughing while a woman rests her head on his shoulder. It could have been someone he worked with and/or a picture caught at the right moment of a otherwise innocent exchange. This story is all a bit vague - Josh took someone to a “private location” and they both were seen leaving the next day. I guess I’ll have to reserve judgment until I get access to In Touch on Thursday, but what’s a “private location”? Why didn’t they just say “hotel”? It’s all circumstantial, but are the circumstances compelling enough to suggest he cheated? Is this the best photo In Touch has of Josh supposedly cheating? Maybe something is going on there, but I’m not yet convinced.

George Clooney?s saving grace is that he?s not just all about bimbos and getting liquored up. He?s also about politics and international advocacy work, and he actually makes an effort to stay well-informed. George formed Not On Our Watch in 2006 with Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and others as a way to funnel money to victims of genocide, as well as political and non-profit groups advocating on the behalf of victims. Clooney?s been to Darfur several times, and he?s raised millions of dollars for the cause. But it seems Clooney?s got his eye on another cause.
The Press Association is reporting that Clooney has joined British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Daniel Craig, David Beckham and Eddie Izzard in sending messages of support to imprisoned Burmese leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi for her 64th birthday. An advocacy website, 64forSuu.org is even going public.
Celebrities including George Clooney and David Beckham have joined Prime Minister Gordon Brown in preparing messages of support for Burma’s opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Famous faces were asked to write 64-word messages of support for the political figure, which will be delivered on her 64th birthday on June 19.
She has been held under house arrest for 13 of the past 19 years, and currently stands accused of breaking the terms of her confinement.
The launch of the website 64forSuu.org is timed to coincide with the date her imprisonment should have stopped.
It features a range of messages including one from Gordon Brown which reads: “I add my voice to the growing chorus of those demanding your release. For too long the world has failed to act in the face of this intolerable injustice. That is now changing.?
“The clamour for your release is growing across Europe, Asia, and the entire world. We must do all we can to make this Birthday the last you spend without your freedom.”
Stephen Fry, Eddie Izzard, Kevin Spacey and Sarah Brown will also submit Twitter entries to the site.
Various celebrities including Clooney, Beckham and James Bond actor Daniel Craig have signed a message from campaign group Not on Our Watch.
It says: “Nineteen years ago, the Burmese people chose Aung San Suu Kyi as their next leader. For most of those 19 years she has been kept under house arrest by the military junta that runs the country. We must not stand by as she is silenced again. Now is the time for the international community to speak with one voice: Free Aung San Suu Kyi.”
Supporters of the campaign can upload video, text or pictures, or twitter messages of support on the site.

Suu Kyi is one of the most well-known current advocates of non-violent protest and democratic revolution in the world. Suu Kyi won the 1990 election to be Burma?s Prime Minister, despite being jailed since 1989 by the reigning military junta. Her non-violent stance is taken from both the teaching of Mohandas Gandhi and the tenets of Buddhism. Her political views, and the twenty years she has spent in prison or under house arrest has won her the support of everyone from celebrities to Pope John Paul.
In other Clooney political news, he?s chimed in about the California Supreme Court?s ruling on Proposition 8, where the court upheld the ?will of the people?, yet allowed the thousands of gay marriages (pre-Prop to stand. Clooney told E! News: ?This just should invigorate people to get it back on the ballot in 2010 and 2012 and every two years until all people are allowed a basic civil right.? Sounds like Clooney?s taking the long view - which is probably better. Better a slow burn than a quick flame.

Adriana Lima is officially pregnant. After rumors swirled for the better part of a day, she finally confirmed that she and husband Marko Jaric are expecting. Marko is some big deal in the NBA, but I don?t follow the football. Yes, I?m joking… I know ?NBA? stands for something involving… baseball? Ballet? No matter. Adriana and Marko were married on Valentine?s Day of this year, and Adriana is confirming that she?s due ?this winter?. Which probably means December-ish. Which means Adriana got knocked up really quickly after getting hitched.
Adriana rather famously said in 2006 that she was going to be a virgin until she got married. Mm-hm, famous last words. She told GQ, ?Sex is for after marriage. [Men] have to respect that this is my choice. If there?s no respect, that means they don?t want me.? So either she saved herself until Valentine?s Day 2009, or she didn?t. It really makes no difference to me, but it?s interesting to think that she might be so old-school as to not only save herself for marriage, but get knocked up two seconds after getting hitched:

Lima, a Victoria’s Secret Angel, and her husband NBA star Marko Jaric, are expecting their first child together, reps for the couple confirm to PEOPLE exclusively. Lima is due this winter.
“Adriana and Marko are overjoyed that they are expecting their first child together and are excited to share the happy news and start their family together,” say reps.
The couple eloped on Valentine’s Day this year, tying the knot in a small, private civil ceremony in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
“We are so excited about our future together,” Lima told PEOPLE at the time.
Lima and Jaric, who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, met in 2006 and got engaged two years later on Lima’s 27th birthday.

Perhaps this is impolite to say, but I think Adriana Lima could have done much better. Marko isn?t bad looking, but he does give off sort of a creepy vibe. Add to that a little incident that happened right around the time of their elopement - a woman accused Marko of sexual assault in Philadelphia, but the district attorney decided not to prosecute. Marko can?t be held accountable for every claim that is made against him, but it will be interesting to see what happens to Marko and Adriana in the long run. In any case, congratulations to the happy couple!

I have no idea why this interview is coming out in drips and drabs, and they don?t have the any of the interview up on the Women?s Health site - but they do have one of the prettiest photo montages of Evangeline I?ve ever seen.
On Tuesday, we reported on the little snippet of interview Page Six got a hold of. Evangeline claimed that producers were always disappointed that she didn?t want to become the next Angelina Jolie. Some thought ?Oh no she didn?t just compare herself to La Jolie? while I kind of thought Evangeline was using Jolie?s name as a way to say ?I don?t want to be a big movie star.? It was open to interpretation, but now we?re getting a bit more context. In the same interview, Evangeline also refers to Angelina as an ?ice queen? but says that she loves Angelina for it. What now?
Evangeline Lilly thinks Angelina Jolie is in ?ice queen? ? but insists it?s not a bad thing.
The Lost actress tells Women?s Health Magazine for its June issue that she admires the Changeling star, but wouldn?t want to be as famous as Jolie.
?No one knows that woman; she?s a complete ice queen, which is perfect,? Lilly said. ?Why should she be any more? She doesn?t owe us anything.?

I don?t really think Angelina comes across as an ice queen, but I?ve never thought she was particularly smug either, and I know many, many people think that of her. Different strokes, different interpretations of behavior. Personally, I prefer Angelina?s cut-a-bitch stare to the neediness and desperation of so many starlets. Perhaps Evangeline?s ?ice queen? comment is about how Angelina doesn?t seem to let the never-ending tabloid cycle get to her. Who knows.
Here?s what?s really bothering about Evangeline, though. It?s all of the complaining. Like someone forced her to dress up in great clothes, photographed her beautifully and held a gun to her head as she was being interviewed. If she doesn?t want to be a celebrity or an actress, fine. Quit Lost (please) and move away and do your missionary work. Problem solved. But don?t whine about it like it?s out of your control.
