| Jennifer Garner in silver Oscar de la Renta at the Oscars: flapper fug or fab' (update) | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Last year at the Oscars, Jennifer Garner put on her game face to support her husband, Ben Affleck, who ultimately took home best picture for Argo. For her trouble, Garner got disrespected in her husband’s Oscar speech. This year, Garner was a presenter and she was in one of the nominated films, Dallas Buyer’s Club. (She was the weak link in that film, in my opinion, and I hate to say that because I genuinely like her.)
In 2013, Garner accompanied Affleck to the ceremony and sat next to him. (Update: Affleck did go to the ceremony with Garner. He was there with her when they panned to the audience during the best supporting actor section. He left before the end, though, and was not show when McConaughey won, which is why I thought he was not there.)
Garner wore this silver Oscar de la Renta gown which was lovely from the waist up, but just had too many levels of fringe on the bottom. In motion, it looked quite busy and too long, like it wanted to be a flapper dress but was double the length it should be. Plus she was wearing stacked stripper heels! I can’t remember when I’ve seen Garner get her footwear right.
Update: More photos came in from the Vanity Fair party!
I did love her styling. She sometimes wears her hair back and it looks too severe, but I loved her soft waves and how effortless her hair looked. Her makeup was so pretty too.
I’m also including these photos of Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Look at how affectionate they are with each other! Portia was in this white eyelet Naeem Khan gown, which was technically very interesting and unique but I’m not sure how I feel about her look overall. There’s a nude lining to the dress, I think, which isn’t opaque enough.

| Reese Witherspoon in revealing Hugo Boss at the VF Oscar Party: too much or perfect? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
We’re working today to bring you most of the big names from the Oscar after parties and will have some more for you tomorrow morning. First up here’s Reese Witherspoon at the Vanity Fair party in a very deep v-neck BOSS dress with a half-metallic half tulle skirt. It’s like the skirts from two different dresses met in the middle. I have to say I like the bottom of this dress, it’s very unique. The top shows off a lot of boob though and it seems uncharacteristic for Reese. She seems to be mixing it up with a more contemporary style lately,
Next we have Kate Beckinsale in the most popular designer this awards season, Elie Saab. I like that Kate didn’t just go ball gown as she usually does, but this is typical for her in that it’s shiny and glamorous. Still, this is the place for it and she looks amazing as always. That has almost nothing to do with the dress. The bodice of that gown wouldn’t look out of place at the summer or winter Olympics.
Here’s Sofia Vergara, also edging slightly out of her comfort zone, in Roberto Cavalli. This dress has Sofia’s favorite skirt style, a fishtail, but it also has a creative strappy bodice with cutouts along the sides. The gown doesn’t have a sweetheart neckline, so it’s a departure for her. I like it.
Penelope Cruz is in an H&M eco-friendly gown from their Conscious collection. I just looked through all of H&M’s dresses online and it’s not like you can buy this exact dress, but if they do offer it you can bet it will sell out quickly. She’s showing just a hint of skin but still manages to look incredibly sexy. Kate Beckinsale and Reese Witherspoon should take note.

According to my sources, it was Victoria Justice‘s birthday last month, and my former #1 Babe of 2012 just threw a belated party for herself now. | Naomi Watts in white Calvin Klein at the Oscars: too simple or lovely? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Naomi Watts was one of the many women in white last night. She was in a cap sleeve Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein collection gown. The dress is too simple, in my opinion, but I like her Bulgari statement necklace and earrings and I sort-of like her styling. Naomi’s makeup is perfect but the poof in her hair was a little much. Still, she looked gorgeous as usual. She wasn’t nominated so she probably didn’t want to bring out the big guns.
Julia Delpy wore draped metallic Jenny Packham to the Oscars and switched to a navy v-neck cap sleeve dress for the Vanity Fair Oscar party. Both gowns were impressive and fit each event well. The Packham really stood out on the red carpet and I loved the brooch-like detail at the waist. Delpy’s party dress was just a bit more casual and comfortable looking. Delpy was up for Adapted Screenplay, for Before Midnight, which went to 12 Years.
Laura Dern supported her dad Bruce last night. She was in a too-tight pale Pink Alberta Ferretti gown. With a different bodice, one that wasn’t so tiny and high, this dress would have worked. The gown has impressive structural details and it does look great in these photos. On camera it looked very tight and uncomfortable though. I loved how supportive Laura was of her dad, that was nice to see. On ABC’s otherwise disappointing pre-Oscar show, they interviewed Dern’s Nebraska costar June Squibb and she told a funny story about how Bruce Dern went around telling everyone that she (June) used to be a pole dancer. June had to clarify that she was a stripper, not a pole dancer, and that it was on Broadway. You could tell that they gave each other a lot of grief on set.
I’m throwing Emma Watson in here because I didn’t know where else to put her. In photos, this dress looks very plain, but on camera it was kind of amazing. She was in metallic and black Vera Wang. When she presented for the Visual Effects category (which went to Gravity, natch) I noticed how incredible her skirt looked. It’s hard to see in pictures because it’s so dark. That was the problem I had with a lot of the fashion last night: it was either too light or too dark and the details on these beautiful gowns didn’t stand out well enough.

| Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Cushnie et Ochs at the VF party: pretty or cold? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley attended last night’s Vanity Fair Oscar party with her boyfriend, Jason Statham. Rosie didn’t make a huge impression because she wore an underwhelming Cushnie et Ochs gown. It’s not that I expect really great fashion things from Rosie (she was a Victoria’s Secret angel after all), but she wants to make a splash in Hollywood. With her statuesque figure, she can pull off some gorgeous dresses. Instead she chose a cheap-looking Cushnie et Ochs gown that looked like a fussy nightgown with craft beads stuck all over the bodice. With side boob. She may have been able to pull it off with some mussed-up hair, but Rosie went for the flat-ironed center part. At least we don’t have to worry about Statham’s hair.
Leslie Mann was a bright burst of sunshine in a yellow Jenny Packham dress. The only thing I didn’t like is that this dress was a little too long. Otherwise, it’s perfect for the occasion and looks great with Leslie’s reddish blonde hair and fair skin. I like the funky matching clutch too.
Rita Ora decided to go all Fredericks of Hollywood, which makes Rosie look sophisticated in comparison. So much lace, so much tackiness.
Rosario Dawson went relatively modest in a deep blue strapless dress with sequin details. The color is simply stunning, but the dress isn’t tailored correctly. The fabric is bunching up around her hip area, and the way it’s pushing up her rack looks painful.

| Selena Gomez in Pucci at the VF Oscar party: too risque or not bad? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
This is a catchall post of some people at the Vanity Fair party last night. Selena Gomez was on the invite list, which means that hanging with Justin Bieber hasn’t completely ruined her. Selena wore Pucci, and she’s going for the grown-up vibe here. Her baby face will always make me feel a little weird about seeing her in more risqu looks. This is a cute dress for a cocktail party. The sheer fabric is overlaid with metallic embellishments. I’d probably have skipped such a dramatic front slit in the gown. She’s already got a sheer skirt. I’ll just be thankful that she doesn’t dress like Miley.
Anna Kendrick wore Versace, and this was her second statement dress of the evening. I think Anna’s making a big play to be a fashion girl, and people are wondering why she’s trying so hard. Maybe? I feel bad that a lot of people don’t even know who she is. Anna was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2009 for Up in the Air. She’s usually not so flashy and lets her talent shine.
Amy Poehler gave me motion sickness with the blurry fabric of her halter dress. The camera is not moving at all. The blur is by design.
Aubrey Plaza is kind of unobtrusive in this red dress. She’s quite funny on television but has a low-key fashion vibe. Even though this dress is a powerful red, she’s just chilling.
Bruce Willis attended with his wife, Emma Heming. Her dress is beautiful, and they looked loved up.
Amanda Peet paired a white satin top with a matronly black skirt. Not a good look.

| Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace at the Oscars: one of the best looks of the night? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Kate Hudson really brought the drama in this Atelier Versace, right? She was one of the best people on the red carpet, and I thought her dress ?walked? well on stage too ? it was a 360 dress, good from every angle. It also doesn?t look like Versace to me, but perhaps Donatella made this especially for Kate. I mean, what else is there to say? She looked fantastic. Everything worked. Great hair, great makeup, her dress was the perfect combination of drama and flattering design. I guess the ?caped? effect is maybe a throwback to Gwyneth Paltrow?s caped Tom Ford, but this Versace isn?t really a cape.
And here are some pics of Kate?s dress change for the after-parties. She wore Zuhair Murad, a designer favored by the likes of Jennifer Lopez. I could totally see this dress on J.Lo too, which makes me not like it so much on Kate. I kind of think she should have just stuck to the Versace for the after-parties. I should also note: Hudson did the Oscars without Matthew Bellamy. I think they?re over, you guys.
I think I saw Penelope Cruz on the red carpet last night, but maybe I was hallucinating, because I don?t remember her in this Giambattista Valli gown. Am I hallucinating? I?m a bit Oscar punch-drunk right now. Anyway, this is beautiful and it reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor. It wouldn?t surprise me at all if Penelope had consciously tried to channel Taylor. I don?t mind all of the fabric and I don?t mind the pink. My one qualm is the black belt and the bow, which isn?t really flattering and I think Valli could have achieved the same basic design in a better way. The black belt is also a bit too matchy with the clutch, so the effect is that she looks like a wrapped gift from Victoria?s Secret.

| Kristen Bell in white Roberto Cavalli at the Oscars: staid or striking? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
When Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard invented that #pedorazzi hashtag and began speaking out against the paparazzi, I started to question my opinion of them. Maybe that’s not fair, maybe they should be lauded for speaking out against a system that harms children, even if their colleagues often benefit from it. Someone had to be the first, and they are asking the tabloids and consumers to think about how paparazzi harass and bother children, who have no say in the matter. Still, there’s something “off” about it for me, like a kind of smugness that doesn’t take into account the way their industry works, or the way the media and public support it. Maybe I just don’t want to see the status quo changed.
That’s what came to mind when I saw Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard at the Oscars last night. They’re no longer the quirky couple who eloped at a courthouse and posted twitpics of their dogs, they’re the couple who crusades against the paparazzi.
Kristen was in this white Roberto Cavalli beaded tulle fishtail gown which looks like something Sofia Vergara would wear. There were a lot of pale and white gowns last night, and I found it mostly underwhelming. Imagine this dress in a solid bright color and how much prettier it would be. She’s wearing Piaget diamonds.
Kristen hosted the scientific and technical awards, along with Michael B Jordan. Despite the fact that the Oscars clocked in at three and a half hours there were even more awards that we didn’t have to sit through. Think of how much more tolerable the Oscars would be if they would move most of the secondary awards to that technical awards ceremony, or to yet another ceremony. They need to shave at least an hour and a half from the broadcast, it was a bloated mess as usual.
Kristen tried to mix it up at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in this deep v-neck red Grecian gown. I don’t have a designer ID on this yet, but like her Oscars gown it’s a very popular cut and color. I’m not fond of the way it smooshes her boobs together.
Also in a pale beaded dress we have Sarah Paulson in champagne colored Elie Saab. This gown is quite pretty but it doesn’t have any kind of wow factor. It’s just a very elegant dress. Paulson was there to support her film 12 Years a Slave, which of course won best picture. She told Ryan Seacrest that she had just met Cate Blanchett that night on the red carpet, and that they are scheduled to start a movie together in one week.
In contrast here’s Viola Davis in green Escada. Viola said she chose the dress because “it fit” and green is her “go-to color.” I wish more ladies would have chosen bold colors on the red carpet last night. We had a lot of pale colors, very dark dresses, and metallics, but not many jewel tones. I guess that’s out of vogue this season, and it’s also what makes Davis stand out. I love her wavy hair! She should have worn just one bracelet, though, those two matching bracelets make her look like Wonder Woman.

| Kristin Chenoweth in Roberto Cavalli at the Oscars: budget Oscar statuette? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Kristin Chenowith attended the Oscars in Roberto Cavalli last night. I was hesitant to make her a headliner in a post, but Kristen clearly wanted to be noticed. She’s dressed as an Oscar statuette. Was this intentional theming, or did Kristen simply like the dress? We’ll never know. The dress is — to be perfectly blunt — tacky and overdone. I think some sleeker details could have been used instead of layers of lattice work. The tulle fabric of the train softens the look a little bit, but it’s not enough to redeem the dress.
Kristen recently went for her new pixie cut to varied reactions. I think if her hair was still long, she could have softened up her look with some retro curls. She’s so cute that I hate to rip her apart for anything, but this dress is a disaster.
Camila Alves wore a soft Pink Gabriela Cadena gown with a side of Best Actor Matthew McConaughey. Camila is a model by trade, so she knows how to work this dress without letting herself be swallowed up. There is a lot of fabric here! I’m curious to see how the dress would have looked without sleeves.
Jada Pinkett Smith wore a Pink Atelier Versace gown with tons of details. The dress featured a halter neck, a high thigh slit, a train, and many folds of drapey fabric. The look is overwhelming, which is complicated by Jada getting matchy-matchy with her eyeshadow and lipstick. Her flat-ironed hair with a center part is a very severe look, and I already think of Jada as being a “severe” person. Jada switched up her outfit for the Vanity Fair party. This is Roberto Cavalli dress, and it is so “Joan Collins in Dynasty.”

| Taylor Swift in Julien Macdonald at the VF Oscar party: matronly or sophisticated? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m transitioning from Oscar red carpet coverage to Oscar party coverage, just FYI. None of these people actually went to the Oscars, but they did come out to party last night. These are all pics from the Vanity Fair party, which seems to be a lot less dramatic than usual. I think VF decided to do their ?red carpet? indoors rather than the usual outdoor photo-op. Anyway, here?s party girl Taylor Swift in a long-sleeved black Julien Macdonald. You know what? I like this. It?s not twee, it?s not girlish, but it?s not matronly on her either. It?s sexy without being vulgar. I like the simple hair too.
Emilia Clarke also wore black ? this is Balenciaga. Thoughts? I don?t hate it, don?t love it either. And I really like that Emilia comes to LA to network for the Oscars.
Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta. Can you believe this is Oscar de la Renta? It seems? off. I don?t care for the dress at all, but I like Zooey with curly hair. She has great hair! I?ll never understand why she insists on those bangs.
This Sienna Miller photo made me laugh. This looks like old-school Sienna, the one who could go dong-for-dong with Kate Hudson. Boobs falling out of a too-tight Alexander McQueen? Check. Hair limp and unwashed? Check. Pre-partying boozing? Check. Bored with her current date? Check. Yes, our Sienna is coming back to us. ONE OF US, ONE OF US.
Diane Kruger in Valentino. This is AWFUL! I hate dresses like this ? just unlined lace doilies with granny panties underneath. Blah. Joshua Jackson looks nice though.

| Cate Blanchett in bejeweled Armani at the Oscars: gorgeous or too fussy? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

It?s been? how long? Twelve hours or so since I first saw Cate Blanchett in this Armani gown, and I still don?t know how I feel about it. I think? ??? On anyone else, I probably would have judged this gown harshly. But because it?s La Blanchett, I?m examining my feelings more closely because I don?t want to hate it. In motion, the effect was that Armani had simply glued jewels onto Cate?s naked body. But in still photos, you can make out more of the details. There are pearls and discs and crystals and beads, all attached to a nude netting.
I guess I like it?? I don?t love it, but I also don?t think it?s a ?bad? dress. I hoped for some huge dress drama from Cate, like the dress would be super-controversial and we would be fighting about it all day. I?ll say this: I think I like the top part much more than the skirt. Something about the skirt is throwing off the look, right? And I?ll give Cate credit for having flawless hair and makeup. I think this is the prettiest her hair is ever looked. PS? Cate?s jewelry is Chopard. Her huge earrings were opals set in white gold. Lupita wore opals too ? she had an opal ring.
And here?s Cate?s competition, Meryl Streep. Meryl wore Lanvin. Thoughts? I feel like Meryl has no f?ks to give and absolutely nothing to prove. She wore a dress that she thought would be flattering and comfortable, and that?s what we got. It?s not high-fashion. It wasn?t meant to be. I do love Meryl and her husband Don Gummer together though ? they?re such a handsome couple!

Last year, Garner posed with Affleck at the Vanity Fair Oscar party. This year, he went with her but kind of rushed her through. (We do have one photo of him posing with her and Glenn Close, that’s below. It’s possible these two posed for photographers but since it wasn’t a big year for them at the Oscars those photos weren’t posted by the agencies.) Overall, it looked like Affleck doesn’t support his wife as much as she supports him. Although I should be fair, it’s possible she told him to stay away. It’s not like she was nominated.
Garner wore this silver Oscar de la Renta gown which was lovely from the waist up, but just had too many levels of fringe on the bottom. She didn't make it to the 86th Academy Awards ceremony, but Halle Berry did manage to hit the red carpet at the Fame And Philanthropy Post-Oscar Party last night (March 2).
The Oscar-winning actress donned a slimming black gown and passed a wave along to the photographers before heading inside.
As for the awards, "12 Years a Slave" took home the biggest prize of the night winning Best Picture.
Meanwhile, Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong'o scored the Best Supporting Actor trophies and Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey were both recognized in the Leading Actor spots.

| Charlize Theron brings the drama in black Dior, diamonds: stunning or repetitive? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I spent way too much time last night trying to figure out what part of Charlize Theron?s Dior gown was nude netting and what part was just being held up by #God. When Charlize first entered the red carpet, I thought her dress was all DRAMA. But I have to admit, in the cold, hard light of day? the drama was live, in motion. In still photos, the Dior looks kind of flat. I was also disappointed that Charlize didn?t bring Sean Penn as her date! But that?s another story.
Back to the dress and the styling? live on the red carpet, I really liked the dress and I thought, ?Well, Charlize knocked it out of the park again, like always.? But look at the detailing on this dress? while the top part is stunning and beautifully tailored, I don?t care for the skirt at all. Those tiered panels on the mermaid skirt? It?s been done a million times and I?ve always disliked it. But! Charlize?s necklace did make up for it. Charlize was decked out in $15 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds, including that absolutely stunning necklace.
And because Charlize presented with him (and he put me to sleep), here?s Chris Hemsworth and his ready-to-pop wife Elsa Pataky. I didn?t even see them on the pre-shows, so this is my first glance at Elsa. I do feel for her. I mean, she?s beyond thrilled to be on the red carpet and she?s bathing in all of the attention, but I bet she was uncomfortable too. Elsa wore Elie Saab, just like Angelina Jolie. I would have loved to have seen this color on Angelina, but it works on Elsa. I mean, what do you want me to say? Elsa looked nice. It wasn?t a bold, avant-garde maternity choice but I don?t expect that from her. They make an attractive couple. Okay, I?ll give it to you Hemsworth-loonies? he looks sort of over it. But I doubt he actually is.

Amy Adams was one of the most gracious losers at last night’s Oscar awards, along with Sandra Bullock. I have to give it to Amy especially, she looked genuinely pleased when Cate Blanchett took home the Best Actress statue, when she was passed up by the Academy for the fifth time. Amy’s film, American Hustle, didn’t win in a single category. This wasn’t Amy’s year, but like DiCaprio she will get her day eventually, I’m sure of it.

| Julia Roberts in black lace Givenchy at the Oscars: widow-fug or sort of cute? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
OMG, I thought Julia Roberts was one of the worst-dressed women of the night. I also thought that she probably didn?t give a crap, and I have to give her a slow-clap for not making everything about JULIA. Julia attended the Oscars because she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Julia hasn?t won anything this whole awards season, so she went into the evening knowing that she wasn?t going to win the Oscar. So, this dress is sort of ?I?m just here because I?m nominated and I wanted to be comfortable.? Also, she?s blonde now. That was like the last thing I noticed, that?s how hideous this dress is.
Still, this Givenchy was bad. Really, really bad. The black lace is very ?Italian widow? and it?s also really derivative of what Dolce & Gabbana was doing a few years ago, so once again: Riccardo Tisci is an awful designer. The peplum ruins everything it touches, and there?s no built-in support in the dress, so Julia?s boobs look sort of? blah, whatever. The whole thing just looked really cheap, which, obviously, is how most Givenchy gowns look these days. What in the world is happening to the House of Givenchy? Lord.
I also thought Jessica Biel ? in Chanel ? was one of the worst-dressed women of the Oscars. It could have been a boringly average glittery tube dress (there were 20 million of those on the red carpet), but it really felt like the dress was unfinished. The lining seemed budget. And what was with the stupid ruffle on the top? And why did it seem like it was just a fraction too tight on her? And why was she even invited to present?! Last thing: her limp hair kept falling in her face and she touched her weave more times than Duchess Kate. Which is never a good sign. Even a blah chignon would have been better than this nothing hairstyle.

Last night, when Gravity was taking home technical award after technical award, the camera kept panning to Sandra Bullock. Bullock looked choked up every time, and she looked like she was savoring the moment. The speeches from the people who worked on that film were some of the most moving, too. You could tell that the crew had a strong sense of camaraderie and that they truly enjoyed the work. It seemed strange to me, though, that George Clooney didn’t bother to attend. Yes the movie was mostly Sandra, but Clooney could have shown up to give his support.
Sandra was in this flowing strapless Alexander McQueen gown which just looked amazing. I love the way the fabric criss-crosses to the side to form that waterfall-like panel across the front. This was one of the best looks of the night, in my opinion. Coupled with Sandra’s amazing styling this was a home run. She had old Hollywood sideswept curls, a smokey eye and peachy cheeks and lips. She was tastefully decked out in Lorraine Schwartz diamonds, including a huge brooch-like earring on her left side and a stunning bracelet. This was perfection.
Sandra won the Best Actress Oscar in 2010 for The Blind Side. Her marriage imploded soon afterwards. I thought of that a few times when I saw her last night, and I thought of how expertly she distanced herself from that mess. It’s been four years and it may seem like a lifetime to Sandra. She didn’t let any grass grow under her feet after that debacle, that’s for sure. Look at her now. She’s 49 years old and on the top of her game.

| Anne Hathaway in Gucci, Viktor & Rolf at the Oscars: beautiful or basic? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

One of our most talked about ladies from last year?s Oscars was pretty much a non-entity at last night?s Oscars. I suspect that was done on purpose ? Anne Hathaway knows people are still ?mad? at her. But she still showed up to present Best Supporting Actor (to Jared Leto), and she wore a dress that pretty much says ?I won last year, you don?t have to pay too much attention to me.? Annie?s Oscar dress was Gucci. It doesn?t look like much on the red carpet (it actually looks rather basic, right?), but on stage, the bejeweled halter top did sparkle like strobe-effect diamonds. When she was on stage, it was a LOOK AT ME moment with the sparkles.
As for her hair? I can?t believe it?s still so short. I get that Annie thinks it?s ?freeing? or cute or something, but I wish she would grow it out a little bit more. Annie and Joseph Gordon Levitt have the same hair these days (and he wears it better). Annie?s makeup was very fresh and pretty though ? she didn?t go overboard at all.
After the Oscars, Annie switched to a black-and-white Viktor & Rolf gown. I think I prefer this one to the Gucci Oscar gown, but is it just me or does this look like vintage cruise-wear? Like, I see these photos and I begin to hum ?The Love Boat? song. No comment on her husband except I’m glad he wasn’t wearing skinny-cut pants.

| Angelina Jolie in sparkly Elie Saab at the Oscars: style vindication after The Leg? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This was Angelina Jolie?s big Oscars comeback after The Leg. And she delivered. The Leg of Doom did not make an appearance at all. The Leg did not even peek out on the red carpet. The Leg was demure. The Leg was sandwiched in between Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch during the Oscars. The Leg got to present with living legend Sidney Poitier (and The Leg had to support Mr. Poitier, because he seemed very frail). The Leg got to announce one of the biggest winners of the evening, Best Director. The Leg has been vindicated!
At the end of the day, Angelina Jolie did not go with Saint Laurent (it was widely predicted that she would go with Saint Laurent) or my designer pick, Jenny Packham. She went with this glittery Elie Saab. I mean, if you want to choose a designer who is one of the most Oscar-friendly, you go with Elie Saab. I did predict that Angelina would go with a metallic, and I?m pleased with this. She looks good in this grey/silver. The dress was flattering, it wasn?t a sack dress, but it also wasn?t too pilgrimy or modest. From certain angles and in certain light, Angelina was showing off a lot of cleavage. Which is bold considering she had a double mastectomy one year ago.
As for the styling? I loved it. While Angelina wears her hair down often enough, I feel like she made an effort to get a blowout and have her hair look very full and bouncy. Her makeup was lovely (her skin is fantastic) and the jewelry was to die for. VICTORY.
Obviously, I want to know more about Angelina sitting next to Benedict. Did their legs touch? Did he whisper bitchy observations to her throughout the evening? Did she whisper back? Did her hand linger on his arm as she laughed at one of his jokes? I could seriously go on and on. I?m planning on writing a series of erotic fiction based entirely on where Angelina was sitting at the Oscars.
But fine, let?s talk about Brad and how he?s now an Oscar-winner. Brad Pitt, Oscar winner. Brad Pitt, Oscar winning producer and his beautiful fiance, double-Oscar winner Angelina Jolie. Oh, today is a good day to be a Brangeloonie.

| Oscars 2014: Cate Blanchett wins Best Actress for 'Blue Jasmine' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Maybe this is anticlimactic, but there was no way that Cate Blanchett was NOT going to win the Oscar tonight. I mean, there were a few weeks there where it looked like anyone associated with Woody Allen was going to be shunned, but it seems like Hollywood was happy enough to separate the Woody issue from Cate Blanchett. So, our queen was crowned once again. This is Cate?s second Oscar (she won supporting actress in 2005 for The Aviator) and her first lead-actress Oscar.
Cate got a great standing ovation (totally deserved it too) and she joked to the audience, “you’re too old to be standing.” She talked for a while but it went quickly. She said something about the award being “random and subjective” and she honored her fellow nominees with generosity (except for Julia Roberts – Cate told Julia to “suck it”). She uttered the name “Woody Allen” on stage and that got applause, surprisingly. My favorite part is her complete admonishment of the idea that films that center around women are somehow “niche” films that don’t make money. Well… she looked beautiful and the award was well-deserved and I’m happy for her. Congrats, Cate!

| Oscars 2014: Matthew McConaughey wins best actor for 'Dallas Buyer's Club' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Matthew McConaughey has taken home the best actor statue for his transformative portrayal of AIDS victim turned advocate entrepreneur Ron Woodruff in Dallas Buyer’s Club. McConaughey has swept the best actor category this year, taking home a SAG, Globe and Independent Spirit Award, so this win was expected for him. Of course we also expect McConaughey to give a colorful speech. At the SAGs he talked about taking a ride in a spaceship to Neptune and at last night’s Spirit Awards he gave a very long speech about the nature of independent film. Tonight he tried to rein it in a little, but he spoke quickly and remained highly entertaining. McConaughey really loves a good turn of phrase and he loves to tell a story. Here’s some of his speech, which had a rough kind of theme that seemed like he was fleshing out on the fly.
There’s about three things… that I need each day. One of them is something to look up to, another is something to look forward to, and another is something to chase. First off I want to thank God because that’s who I look up. He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any other human hand. He has shown me that it’s a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Laughton who said “When you’ve got God you’ve got a friend, and that friend is you…”
To my father who I know he’s up there right now with a big pot of gumbo, I know he’s in his underwear and he’s got a cold can of Miller Light and he’s dancing right now. To you dad, you taught me what it means to be a man… To my [family] you are the four people in my life that I want to make the most proud of me.
To my hero, that’s who I chase. When I was 15 years old I had a very important person in my life come to me and say ‘who’s your hero,’ and I said ‘I’m not going to think about that, give me a couple of weeks.’ I come back two weeks later this person comes up and says ‘who’s your hero’ and I thought about it… ‘it’s me in ten years.’ So I turn 25 ten years later and that same person comes back to me and says ‘are you a hero?’ and I was like ‘not even close. My hero’s me at 35…’ My hero’s always 10 years away. I’m never going to be a hero. I’m never going to obtain that, I know I’m not.
So to any of that, whatever it is we’re chasing… to that I say “alright, alright, alright.”
McConaughey was floundering in romcoms for a while, then he became a dad, took some time off and waited until some meatier roles came his way. He’ll tell you about it in his colorful way, and he won’t disrespect his earlier roles. Congratulations to Matthew, he really brought it for Dallas Buyer’s Club, and it was much more than extreme weight loss. He became that character in a incredible film that took 20 years to get made. And now he can add “Academy Award Winner” before his name.
