Back in the day, the Art of Elysium gala used to be a much bigger deal. They used to get more Young Hollywood people at the gala than the Golden Globes the following day. These days, not so much. This year?s gala was a tribute to Neil Gaiman and it was sparsely attended. Christina Hendricks was one of the biggest-name ?fashion girls? there and her corseted look was? yikes. It looks like a bad costume the shades of red don?t match and her hair & makeup are appalling.
Heidi Klum walked the carpet with her daughter Leni, who is very cute. I?m getting a Cindy Crawford-Kaia Gerber vibe, as in Heidi is trying to nepotize her daughter into the modeling industry.
Joseph Gordon Levitt barely shows up on any red carpets these days, but look! He looks great.
Patricia Arquette looks like she raided a ?70s thrift shop.
Here?s Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily V. Gordon. He?s maintained his chiseled look!

This surprised me, and yet? I guess I should have suspected something. Christina Hendricks and Geoffrey Arend are splitting after a decade of marriage. They were together throughout Christina?s rise to fame on Mad Men. He?s also an actor, mostly a character actor taking smallish roles in film and television, and his career got overshadowed by hers for all of their marriage. Still, he seemed so proud of her and he just looked as happy as can be with his bombshell wife. But they haven?t been making many public appearances together this year. Hm. Here?s their joint statement, posted on Christina?s Instagram:
?Twelve years ago we fell in love and became partners. We joined our two amazing families, had countless laughs, made wonderful friends and were blessed with incredible opportunities. Today we take our next step together, but on separate paths. We will always be grateful for the love we?ve shared and will always work together to raise our two beautiful dogs.?
?We will be taking time to rediscover ourselves in this transition and we thank you for your patience and support in giving us the space to do so.?

I?m sad about this. They seemed to love and support each other a lot. I have zero clue as to what was behind this split, but if I had to guess? it was probably a mix of ?Christina?s career was always the priority for both of them? plus ?disagreements about whether to start a family.? Christina always seemed like she wasn?t really interested in having kids. Maybe he was fine with thatuntil he wasn?t. In any case, I wish them both the best and I hope this split doesn?t get messy.

How do I say this without sounding too judgy? There are a lot of celebrities right now who claim to have spent their early years ?modeling.? Very few of them actually have any evidence of that early career though, and I always find that super-shady (coughMelaniaTrumpcough). Christina Hendricks actually was a model for many years before she started booking acting jobs consistently. Every so often, photos or ads from Christina?s modeling days will crop up. She used to be a blonde! She was apparently friends with Karen Elson.
Well, this is one of those moments where Christina?s old modeling gigs have cropped up, only this time it?s something she herself has revealed. Christina posted the American Beauty poster to her Instagram and said that she was the ?hand? on the poster. It?s another woman?s stomach.

Y?all know I love Christina Hendricks. But she?s almost always a mess on the red carpet, and last night was no exception. Christina attended the SAGs for Mad Men?s last ensemble nomination, and Mad Men lost, which I?m sort of okay with. What I?m not okay with? Downton Abbey winning the ensemble award for Drama yet again! Ugh. Don’t get me wrong, I love Downton and I’m still watching and loving it. But it’s a very silly soap opera.
But anyway, Christina decided to go with this custom-made Christian Siriano gown. She?s worn Siriano to some major events before, to mixed results. I don?t know if we should blame the designer or if Christina is the one consistently choosing the wrong colors and fabrics. This gown looks like heavy brocade, something more suitable for a duvet or window treatments. The color is all wrong on her too. Her date was her husband (the Nerd King) Geoffrey Arend.
Two more women wore Christian Siriano ? Scandal?s Katie Lowes and Veep?s Anna Chlumsky. The silouette of Katie?s dress would have been great on Hendricks, and that color would have been a vast improvement too. Katie?s is my favorite out of this bunch, but I don?t hate Anna?s simple black gown. My problem with Anna?s look is that she did the on-trend topknot hairstyle and it looks like it?s pulled too tight.

Here are more photos from last night?s Art of Elysium gala in LA. This is one of the big pre-Golden Globes events held in LA, and they always get a good turnout. This year?s event honored British designer Vivienne Westwood, and Westwood dressed many ladies at the gala. Including Christina Hendricks. Hendricks has a history with the brand ? she?s represented Westwood?s jewelry collection, and Hendricks has been dressed by Westwood at some big events in the past, to mixed results. Personally, I don?t think Hendricks looks good here at all, and it?s as much the dress?s fault as her stylist?s. Westwood?s designs are known for having intricate, built-in corsets and bustiers, none of which Christina needs. So the effect is that she looks like she jammed her girls in there are she squeezing the life out of them. As for her hair?what is throwing me off? Her bangs?
Kaley Cuoco in a white jumpsuit ? I can?t find the ID on this but it doesn?t look like Westwood to me. It is pretty cute, and I like that she wore a tuxedo jumpsuit when nearly every other woman wore a gown.
Rumer Willis and Scout Willis were on hand and I wouldn?t even mention them except for the fact that ? HAND TO GOD ? I think Rumer might be the best-dressed woman at the event. I swear!! Look at her beautiful Westwood gown. The graphic is gorgeous, the cut is beautiful and this is the best example of a great Westwood gown.
Shara Worden is the lead singer for My Brightest Diamond, and she performed at the event. She is also committed to high-fashion trends and ?editorial looks.? OMG. The fake unibrow is? amazing in its hideousness.

I feel like Christina Hendricks? Emmys look was very controversial. And to go with the theme, this came across differently in motion. In motion, Christina seemed like she was poured into this Naeem Khan gown. In these photos, it looks almost saggy and the gold sort of stands out too much. I will say that Christina?s styling has improved over the years, especially considering that this was her sixth Emmy nomination (and her losing streak remains unbroken), and I remember some of the fug and unflattering looks she?s worn over the years. The concept of putting Christina in this dress was solid ? she needs body-con and clean silhouettes with her figure, not more fabric and ruffles and stuff. So, I think at the end of the day? it?s fine.
I?ve always loved Kiernan Shipka?s red carpet style, which was always age-appropriate and rather adorable. But this Dior look? I?m not into it. Too twee? The sheer panel seemed tacked on? This is basically a babydoll dress over slacks? All of that and more.
Teyonah Parris in Francesca Miranda polka dots. Parris was really enjoying herself and posing like crazy in this dress. Polka dots are not my jam, but this just shows you what a great attitude can do for an ensemble ? she really loved her look, so I find myself enjoying it too.
