| Rita Ora in Vera Wang at the Met Gala: Becky please or rather striking? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Rita Ora was hanging out of her ostrich-looking Vera Wang gown at the Met last night, but that’s typical for her. She often hangs out of whatever it is she’s wearing. At least there’s nude material built into it to avoid wardrobe mishaps. This dress reminds me a bit of Bjork’s Oscar swan dress, but I guess that’s going to be the case with any gown with feathers and cutouts until the end of time. This is also very Katniss, although it doesn’t look like a specific dress from the Hunger Games and is more of an homage. It’s a gorgeous dress, I’m just not sure that Rita is the right person to wear it. Maybe her goofy makeup is throwing it off. (Update: thanks to those of you who pointed out that feathers are very Met Gala circa 2012.)
In case you were wondering if things were ok between Rita Ora and Beyonce following Rita’s reference to lemons and her denial that she was one of the Beckys, Rita Snapchatted a selfie with Beyonce. She captioned it “family,” and it looks like she caught Beyonce on her way to the bar, but I can buy that they spent five minutes together.
Also in silver was Allison Williams, in Peter Pilotto. I love the modern swoop of the sequin stacked stripe along this heavily embellished gown. My mom is a quilter and she’s been telling me about these very expensive quilting machines which have computerized options for embroidering patterns on the fabric where this used to be done by hand. That’s what this gown reminds me of, particularly the precision of the striping.
Adriana Lima was in black, white and blue Giambattista Valli with a full skirt. This is how you do contrasting patterns so that they’re interesting instead of clashing. I heard on E! that there was a moratorium on selfies last night but maybe that only counted when they were inside. Rita Ora didn’t get the message.
This dress had a bolero cape if that’s a thing. I guess it is now.

Here’s Wendi Deng, in Christopher Kane. US Weekly was talking about the fact that it’s Wendi’s first red carpet since we heard that she snagged Vladimir Putin. I imagine dating the leader of Russia must be more trouble than it’s worth, but he also has a net worth of $70 billion. Wendi knows how to pick ‘em. The floral pattern on this dress is too busy for my taste.

| Nicole Kidman in caped McQueen at the Met Gala: fabulous or fug? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

People were going crazy for Nicole Kidman?s Alexander McQueen gown last night on Twitter and on E!. I thought it moved very well, meaning it looked great in motion, on camera. But in photos? it seems sort of flat, right? Don?t get me wrong, I love this version of Kidman, mostly because I absolutely loathed the frilly/lacy style she was doing several years back. It felt like every other red carpet, Kidman was wearing something that looked like a doily. This is bold and interesting and the cape is fabulous. But? I don?t know, I still think she could do better. Also, the way the bust of the dress has been cut, you can really tell that she?s got implants.

| Madonna in Givenchy at the Met Gala: gross, messy or just boring? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Much like Lady Gaga (in more ways than one), you can always count on Madonna to be a hot mess at any given point. Particularly over the past six months or so, Madge has been particularly messy. Madonna was chosen by Riccardo Tisci to wear Givenchy last night. Beyonce also wore Givenchy, and I believe that they were the only two. While Bey got a latex-rash dress, Madonna got the lace butt-cheek dress. When are we going to acknowledge that Riccardo Tisci doesn?t know what he?s doing? As for Madonna in particular, she spoke to E! on the carpet and it was SO MESSY. She?s had so much work to her face, she can barely speak properly.
I feel bad for doing this to Tory Burch?s ladies, but none of them are noteworthy enough to get their own post, thus they have to share with Madonna?s butt cheeks. Emma Roberts, Freida Pinto and Mindy Kaling all wore Tory Burch to the Met Gala. Emma looks bratty (per usual), but Mindy and Freida look lovely. I actually think this is the prettiest dress Mindy has ever worn on any red carpet, ever.

| Zoe Saldana in Dolce & Gabbana at the Met Gala: impressive or overdone? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Last night Kaiser and I were refreshing Twitter to see who wore what to the Met Gala. While E! did have red carpet coverage, and kudos to them for starting that this year, it was more commentary than breaking news and Twitter was usually first. The back of this dress was tweeted early with the celebrity incorrectly identified as Heidi Klum. (The same thing happened with the at-first unknown wearer of that lit-up Zac Posen dress, people said it was Heidi Klum.) Then, when Zoe stepped out in this incredible gown, there was chatter that she was wearing the same dress as Heidi Klum. That didn’t happen and with all the planning that goes into these custom gowns it would not be a coincidence if it did. This was Zoe, rocking this incredible peacock-look dress which had a long train and just beautiful, stunning craftsmanship. I would love to know more about the work which went into this gown. It doesn’t fit the theme of the Met Gala this year but that doesn’t matter at all. Something nitpicky: her makeup is too light for a red carpet look but maybe she didn’t want to overshadow the dress, as if that would even be possible.
Do you remember how Zoe defended Dolce and Gabbana after their stupid “synthetic babies” comments last year? They remembered.
Kate Bosworth was also in Dolce & Gabbana and it’s like they farmed out the design of this hot bedazzled mess to a junior designer. In theory it should be a lovely gown in that there’s so much detail put into it, but there’s not enough editing on the bodice especially. It’s so overwhelmed with rhinestones that it looks like someone hot glued them on with little attention to the pattern. Plus she’s got on some kind of leafy Grecian crown and there’s a giant circle at the waist and embroidered shells leading down the skirt. It’s too much.
Look at this body language.

I shouldn’t stir up trouble, they looked normal-ish in other photos.
Kate Mara was in Paco Rabanne and she was one of the few women to wear a laser-cut dress. That’s one of the examples of the effects of technology on the fashion industry, laser cut patterns. I love the grommets on this dress and the cut is very mod. Kate was there with her Fantastic Four co-star, Jamie Bell, and I forgot that they were dating but we first heard about it last fall. They’re cute together!
Speaking of cute couples, here’s Hannah Davis and her fiance, retiree (ha!) Derek Jeter. She’s in light blue Zuhair Murad and she looks fab. I love the silver belt on that gown and her strappy matching heels.

| Sarah Jessica Parker in Monse at the Met Gala: Founding Father chic? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

People were freaking out about Sarah Jessica Parker online last night. SJP always comes to the Met Gala and she always delivers a bold, interesting, noteworthy look. She?s usually on-theme too, but not last night. I guess she went for comfort this year. SJP wore this Monse ensemble, which looks like a costume from a high school production of 1776: The Musical! I will say that she did look comfortable, and that I like the idea of pants/Capris. But this is just bad. Also awful: that necklace!! My God.
Gucci?s current vibe is very hippie, very celestial-stars-and-constellations. It works on someone like Florence Welch, but does it work on Dakota Johnson? While I think Dakota is, for the most part, a snooze, I sort of like that she mixed it up and went for a bold graphic. You know what sucks though? The lace on the bust. That was not necessary. I?m also including Florence!
I actually think Sienna Miller looks great in this Gucci. The breast bow stuff is sort of overdone, but otherwise, this is a great look.
LOVE this red carpet sparkler on the one and only Sienna Miller! #MetGala #ERedCarpet pic.twitter.com/RB6apuObBd

| Blake Lively in Burberry at the Met Gala: stunning or poorly styled? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m still sort of shocked that out of all of the potential (British) models and actresses Christopher Bailey could have chosen, he ended up going with an American celebrity: Blake Lively. Don?t get me wrong, I understand that Bailey probably wanted to make a big statement and this Burberry gown is a big statement, even more so because he put it on someone known for being a Fashion Girl, like Blake. While I love this dress ? truly and completely love it ? I don?t think it has anything to do with the theme. It?s just a beautiful statement gown and it looks great on Blake. My one qualm is that I think Blake?s jewelry choices are not the best for the gown. I feel like it should have been rubies or diamonds, not coral. Also, she barely looks pregnant here, right?
Naomie Harris also got to wear Burberry. I love Naomie, but this dress is a snooze.
I didn?t expect to love Karlie Kloss?s Met Gala look, but here we are. Karlie wore Brandon Maxwell and I thought she looked STUNNING. My only disappointment was that she looked so much cooler with the coat/cape thing as she traveled to the Met Gala, and once she took it off to pose on the carpet, the look was not as special.

| Claire Danes in illuminated Zac Posen at the Met Gala: perfection, breathtaking? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Everyone was buzzing on Twitter over this illuminated Zac Posen gown. It was unknown at first who would be wearing it and initially the rumor was that Heidi Klum would arrive in this amazing dress. Given Heidi’s tendency to look ridiculous on the red carpet, this kind of effort seemed wasted on her, so thankfully that story was false. Claire Danes showed up in this dress, which perfectly fit the Manus x Machina theme and drew comparisons to Cinderella, at least when the dress was unlit. When lit, all I could think of was Katniss’s flaming gown at the Hunger Games.
Look at the video of this dress. The slightly frayed edges are lines of light which edge the hem, waistline and down the bodice. The skirt and rest of the dress look like a starry night. Zac Posen designed with light and made it a feature of the gown. Zac Posen is Cinna. Claire explained in an interview on the red carpet (that’s below) that she had a stool to sit on during the event because she couldn’t sit in a typical chair. Like Karolina Kurkova in her lit up Marchesa, she rode in a bus to the event as she couldn’t sit down, but this design and execution is superior in every way. It’s amazing.
Manic moments!! Zacposen #metgala #clairedanes

| Taylor Swift & Selena Gomez in Louis Vuitton at the Met Gala: cute or tragic? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Taylor Swift was one of the co-chairs of last night?s Met Gala. The theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” which was sort of difficult to interpret for many, many people. So lots of people didn?t even try, and some people only went as far as ?let?s dress up in silver, for robots!? Swifty was one of those people. While I know Swifty?s Louis Vuitton dress was and is ?fashionable? and on-trend, I KNOW she could do better. I know she could have put more thought into it. I know that she could have chosen a dress without silver robot ruffles. Now, all that being said? this was hardly the worst look on the carpet, nor was it the worst Louis Vuitton look. I actually think she got out of her comfort zone a little bit, and I like that her styling ? with the dark lip and mussy platinum hair ? is pretty different for her.
Taylor?s date was her BFF Selena Gomez, and Selena ? who also has a long-standing connection to the house of Vuitton ? wore Louis Vuitton too. Some people even suggested that Selena talked Taylor into wearing LV. My problem with Selena?s look is that the whole thing just looks sort of tacky. The skirt cuts off at a terrible length and THE SHOES. The Shoes are the worst. I just don?t get how their dress says ?Met Gala? whatsoever.

| Beyonce in latex Givenchy at the Met Gala: stunning or uncomfortable? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m going to give Beyonce some credit? post-Lemonade, she seems more accessible and vulnerable, and in turn, that?s made her more likeable. She was working that same kind of vibe at the Met Gala. She went solo, no Jay-Z, no Solange, no Tina. She came at a decent time (as opposed to being the last one to arrive and ?making an entrance?) and she happily posed solo on the carpet. It was nice. Beyonce?s latex Givenchy gown ended up being one of the most notable of the night. I?m struggling to figure out how this is on-theme of ?Manus x Machina,? except maybe latex is a man-made ?fabric?? Sure. Some people thought Beyonce?s dress looked like it had a rash, and some thought she was making some kind of statement about safe sex. Personally, I feel sorry for her because I bet she was hot as balls at the gala. Poor Bey. Also: the eye makeup was a bit too heavy for her face, but I love all the jewelry.
Idris Elba in a Tom Ford tuxedo is doing things to me. God, he looked amazing, and I?m so glad he served as co-chair this year. I hope Anna Wintour brings him back many, many times. Bonus Idris tongue.
And here?s Anna Wintour and her daughter Bee Schaffer. Can I just say? I think it?s really sweet that this has become an annual mother-daughter outing for Anna and Bee. I also enjoy the fact that Bee consistently wears pretty Alexander McQueen gowns, regardless of the theme. Anna wore Chanel, and she looked pretty good too.

| Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Ralph Lauren at the Met Gala: on point or plain? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley got a lot of praise for her incredible white Ralph Lauren gown last night. The commentators on E! admitted that it didn’t fit the theme, which was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” but said that the heavy metallic strap brought the technology element in. She looked so amazing it almost didn’t matter. She was floating in that dress. I like the lightness of the gown mixed with the bold metal strap. You could put Rosie in almost anything and she would look gorgeous though.
Amber Heard was also in Ralph Lauren, but her dress wasn’t as form-fitting as Rosie’s and kind of hung on her. The color of the gown is striking, but the way it gathers is unflattering and looks bunchy. She always goes for that old Hollywood vibe and it isn’t always suited to the occasion. Her hair and makeup look lovely, but again this is something we’ve seen from her before. I wonder why Johnny didn’t accompany her last night, although dates aren’t as common at the Met Gala as at typical events.
Rose Byrne shimmered in this ruffled Ralph Lauren gown. This silver color is to die for, but I can’t say the same for the off the shoulder flutter sleeves and ruffles. Still, it looks like she was dipped in a vat of some metallic substance that’s dripping off of her. Even with the overdone makeup and my initial dislike of the cut of the dress, there’s something incredible about the look as a whole. It’s just impressive.

| Kim Kardashian in silver Balmain at the Met Gala: surprisingly great? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

#VIBES. That?s how Kanye West answered a question about his blue-contacts. ?Vibes.? Kanye tried out the robot-theme of the Met Gala by vibing with some robot eyes, I guess. He also wore jeans and a crazy, blinged-out Balmain jacket. Kim Kardashian also did Balmain, and? you guys, she NEVER learns. She?s lost so much weight in the past four months, she?s worked so hard and she wanted to look thin for the Met Gala, and then she wore a Balmain dress that adds like twenty pounds to her frame. Now, all that being said? Kim?s Balmain dress was one of the best looks on the carpet. Go ahead and yell at me!!! But the construction is great and it?s easily one of the best of the silver/metallic dresses at the Met Gala.
Lucifer?s Homegirl ? Kris Jenner ? also wore Balmain, and she brought her boyfriend Corey Gamble. You know what? I?m not going to shade Kris Jenner here. Three of her daughters came to the event and she was proud of them, and she thankfully didn?t try to pull focus from them. This is a simple black gown, no drama.
The ?Balmain Army? was out in full force last night ? there were SO MANY models wearing shiny Balmain dresses. Here?s a shot of Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio and Jourdan Dunn, all in Balmain. I think Jourdan?s dress is probably the most on-theme.

| Kylie Jenner in silver Balmain at the Met Gala: budget Kim Kardashian 2.0? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kylie Jenner pulled out all of the stops for her first-ever turn on the Met Gala carpet. And the result was? she looked just like vintage Kim Kardashian. I do think it?s weird that Kylie apes Kim so hard, so often. Kylie?s Balmain gives off such strong Kim K-vibes, only I guess the point is that Kylie is younger and smaller? Whatever. Kim Kardashian 2.0.
Kendall Jenner made a point of NOT wearing Balmain like the rest of her family. Instead, Kendall chose this Versace. Which? I don?t know you guys, I sort of love it? On another woman, I might not have cared, but this looks amazing on her.
Cindy Crawford briefly posed with Kendall Jenner on the carpet, which would have been really cool if Kendall had been wearing Balmain too. Cindy decided to go to the Met Gala as part of Balmain Army, and I don?t hate this. I?ll say it: I think Olivier Rousteing did a great job putting together the Balmain looks for the Met Gala. Consistently, the Balmain looks were some of my favorites.
Joan Smalls slayed it in Balmain too, you guys. Unfortunately, barely anyone took photos of her.

| Karolina Kurkova's Marchesa Met Gala gown lit up in response to Tweets: still fug' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Karolina Kurkova was one of the ladies in Marchesa last night at the Met Gala. She was in this dusty blue tulle and white floral applique gown with little twinkle lights sewn into it which changed color based on the emotions of people responding on her social media accounts. It was unclear how this worked exactly. They were vague about it on E! when they covered her getting ready and when she tried to explain it in a video it made no sense. She couldn’t sit down because of the lights, and IBM worked on the technology. CNET has a description of how the dress works and it sounds like the plot to Inside Out. “There are five key emotions it will search for on social media: joy, passion, excitement, encouragement and curiosity. When it detects these emotions, the dress glows in real-time.” It’s a very twee gown, regardless. At least it was in keeping with the theme. I would have liked to see more gowns last night with actual technology features. Why did no one have some kind of led display built into their gown? At least hire some tech people to rig something up with raspberry pi.
En route! Please comment on all of my social media accounts b/c my dress will react to your emotions! #cognitivedress #emotionalintelligence #wearabletech #MetGala #MetGala2016 @georginachapmanmarchesa @marchesafashion @ibm
