Last week, I was feeling bad for Reese Witherspoon. It seemed like her latest film, This Means War, had bombed – so far, it?s made about $35 million in two weeks. But that was before Jennifer Aniston?s new film really bombed over the weekend – now Reese is looking like the much better contender for ?America?s Sweetheart,? isn?t she? My problem with Reese the actress is that when I?m watching her in a rom-com, I?m thinking, ?I wish she would do more dramas.? And when I?m watching her in a drama, I?m thinking, ?I wish she would do more comedies.? Maybe it?s the lack of worthy material in Hollywood. Maybe it?s that Reese has bad taste in projects. Maybe she needs to be less concerned with her paycheck and more concerned with simply making good films.
Anyway, that was a long way to go to say this – for the most part, I like Reese as a person. I still want her to do well. I want her to stop pretending to be a ditz, because she shouldn?t be ashamed of being an anal-retentive, hyper-organized, intelligent woman. I want her to end her friendship with Chelsea Handler – it?s doing her no favors. And mostly, I want Reese to fully embrace being a role model to young women. Because she?s smart, she?s talented, and her instincts are good. Here?s an article about Reese discussing domestic violence and what she tells her kids about the Chris Brown situation:
As the Global Ambassador for the Avon Foundation, Reese Witherspoon knows that in the U.S. and worldwide, one in three woman will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. As a mother, she wants her kids to know that, too.
“We talk about domestic violence and what that means,” Witherspoon, 35, told PEOPLE Tuesday at the 2nd World Conference of Women’s Shelters in Washington, D.C., about educating her own family. “Although the concept is somewhat foreign to them, they’re starting to understand that this happens to families in our country and all throughout the world.”
Witherspoon’s two children ? daughter Ava, 12, and son Deacon, 8 ? have also talked with their mother about a recent public case: the felony assault by Chris Brown on then-girlfriend Rihanna in February 2009, after which he pleaded guilty.
“My daughter knows what happened. My son knows as well,” says the Oscar winner. “We talk about what is abuse. I think it’s important to talk to our daughters ? and our sons ? in order to educate them at an early age about what’s appropriate and what is absolutely not acceptable.”
Luckily for Witherspoon, she’s found herself in a happy relationship and marriage with husband Jim Toth. The couple’s first wedding anniversary is next month.
“I don’t know what we’re doing, but I’m very excited!” she says. “It happened so fast ? it all went so quickly.”

Taylor Swift covers the April issue of Harper?s Bazaar Australia. I LOVE the photo shoot. Swifty isn?t what I would consider ?high fashion? – that?s never going to be her look. But when you put her in beautiful, mature clothes and do something with her hair, she is a stunning young woman. What I love about her editorial look is that she?s not downmarket, like, say, Blake Lively. You can put Blake in beautiful clothes and you can do her hair, but in editorials, she looks like what she is – a very pretty mall girl. Swifty actually manages to look very elegant, expensive, high-quality. If she put more time, money and effort into her ?look? as an artist, she would be one of the most interesting young women to watch.
Not that I have some huge issue with her sundresses and cat-print blouses. They?re fine. For now. That?s another thing I do appreciate with Swifty – she?s experimenting with her styles – like most young women – but unlike most women, she?s doing it all in public, and she does it with grace. And she manages to avoid the whole ?I?m pulling a Madonna, I?m a sex symbol? phase. That being said, you know how I feel about the whole “Grown Woman Selling Her Fake-Virginity” as a media strategy thing.
Speaking of…there?s some interesting news about a potential new boyfriend for Swifty – none other than Tim Tebow! Over the weekend, there was some buzz about a WME pre-Oscar party in which Swifty and Tebow (who just signed on to WME) were spotted getting very friendly. Celebuzz?s source claimed that Swifty ?spent most of her evening? talking to the QB, and ?They were together for almost an hour. She approached Tim and he looked more than happy to be talking with her.? That?s not all – some sources are claiming that Swifty and Tebow were spotted out on a dinner date on Monday night in LA. Honestly, I do not hate the idea of the super-Christian QB and the girlish country singer becoming a couple. Swifty usually has such horrible taste in men – maybe Tebow will break the cycle.

With all eyes on her so frequently, Kate Middleton typically plays it safe in the fashion department, but a few students from England?d De Montfort University are competing for a chance to design some shoes for the Duchess.
Coming up on March 8th, six pupils will present their fancy creations to Middleton when she visits the school?s town of Leicester with Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Phillip.
The competing individuals range in age from 20 to 27 and, according to UsWeekly, are looking to dress Kate in various styles from plaid booties to English rose-adorned peep-toe heels.
One of the lucky participants, Tabatha Duffield, told the Daily Mail, "I wanted something feminine and elegant to reflect her personality," when discussing the inspiration for her design of elegant heels adorned with laser-cut flowers.

Even though I?m not completely in love with these two covers (a subscriber?s and the newsstand), it?s always a pleasure seeing Cate?s magnificent face on a magazine cover. As for the interview – Cate is charming and lovely. She?s rarely controversial or headline-grabbing. She?s just a cool woman with a great career. So? her interviews are sometimes slightly boring. No offence to Cate! I?ll take Boring Cate over just about everyone.
Cate is a ?huge fan? of the 007 franchise: She says Rosa Klebb in From Russia with Love was her favourite baddie of all time. “Oh God! Yes! I’d be there in a heartbeat,” she told the magazine when asked if she would consider playing a Bond villain. “I love Lotta Lenya. She had a club foot and a limp. I’m not a purist in that way.”
Her husband, Andrew Upton, wants her to have hobbies: “My husband went through a phase of giving me vacuum cleaners, sewing machines and Mixmasters. It’s ironic. He is encouraging me to develop a hobby, I think.”

Lotta Lenya was a great villain, and now that I know Cate?s love for that character, you can see how Cate maybe used that as an inspiration for her villainess in that horrible Indiana Jones movie. It was either this or a story about Kim Kardashian?s abs. Which I still might do, you know. It?s really dead around here this morning. So why not cover these beautiful photos of Ewan Mcgregor? Right? These are pics of Ewan?s appearance at a Q&A session at the Rafael Film Center in San Francisco, California. He?s promoting his new film, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. If you?d like to read more about his appearance, go here. I just want to talk about how attractive he is. I mean? come on. Ewan is the best. Ewan is – to me – like the Scottish Jeff Bridges. He?s a workhorse actor who takes varied roles in films of varied quality, and throughout his career, there are this little gems of performances. Ewan is always the best part of whatever film he?s in.
When Christopher Plummer won his Best Supporting Actor Oscar on Sunday, I really wished that Ewan was in the audience. Plummer gave him a shout-out in his speech – Ewan played his son in the film Beginners, and it seems like Plummer and McGregor really grew to adore each other in the making of that film. Which brings me back to why the Oscars sucked so hard this year? producers ALWAYS forget that the Oscars audience is made up of a majority of women and gay dudes. We want to see actresses in gowns, and we want hot guys. All of the presenters should have been high-profile (but not necessarily high-quality) actresses and really attractive men. Ewan should have been asked to present. As should Jon Hamm. And Blake Lively. And Julia Roberts. And Daniel Craig. And Michael Fassbender. And why not Demian Bichir? He’s hot. Bringing in Tom Cruise to finish off the night – well, I understand that MI4 did well. So invite him, but don?t have him finish. But bring in an all-star hot guy or lady to finish off the night. Bring in Robert Redford. Bring in Lauren Bacall.
Basically, I want more Ewan Mcgregor ALL the time. Especially at awards shows.

During the six-season run of “Sex and the City” as an HBO show, I was a faithful viewer of the program. Actually, let’s start over — for the first four seasons, I adored the show as a guilty pleasure, and for the final two seasons, I tolerated the demise of what was enjoyable and fun about the four main characters. Then the executive producers had the bright idea to make not just one but two films that turned the entire franchise into a caricature of itself. Like many other people, these movies put a very bad taste in my mouth; as a result, I can no longer go back and enjoy old episodes of the show. So it does not come as pleasing news to learn that the CW is proceeding with “The Carrie Diaries,” which will serve as a prequel revolving around the high-school-aged exploits of Carrie before she hooks up with Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha. What’s more, they’ve cast Annasophia Robb (Soul Surfer, Race to Witch Mountain) in the role of Carrie, which could prove to be an early career killer for Robb if the show fails miserably. Will anyone actually tune in to watch it?
Annasophia Robb has some big — not to mention fashionable — shoes to fill.
The actress, 18, is set to play a high school version of the Manolo Blahnik-obsessing, love-chasing Carrie Bradshaw, a role originated by Sarah Jessica Parker in HBO’s Sex and the City, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
The CW has ordered a pilot episode of The Carrie Diaries, which will chronicle Bradshaw’s teen days in ’80s Manhattan, long before penning her sex column.
Also getting carried away with Robb, who portrayed real-life survivor Bethany Hamilton in last year’s Soul Surfer: The Killing’s Katie Findlay and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the Worlds Ellen Wong, who will play two of Bradshaw’s friends ? presumably before she meets BFFs Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).
The series, which will also star Running Wilde’s Stefania Owen as Carrie’s little sister Dorritt, is based on author Candace Bushnell’s Sex and the City prequel of the same name.

Last July, Blake Lively was being considered for the role of Samantha Jones while producers were still sort of envisioning the prequel as a movie with Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie (like she’d really go there). Kaiser and I were discussing how Blake’s fame hustling through relationships with Leo DiCaprio and Ryan Reynolds has actually increased her profile so much that, ironically, she’d probably now consider an SATC prequel series on the CW as too “downmarket” for her worth as an actress. Then again, Blake’s still appearing in “Gossip Girl” these days, right?
As to the decision to cast Robb, who to date has mostly appeared in wholesome movies, in the role of 1980s Carrie, meh. I just hope she enjoys wearing Guess jeans and Jessica McClintock dresses.

This is going to be an epic post about Angelina Jolie and The Leg of Conspiracies And Awfulness. I just wanted to throw this March cover from Vogue Turkey out there because it?s just a striking image. It was shot by Mert & Marcus, as part of a real photo shoot for the magazine it seems. Mert & Marcus shot Angelina last year for Vanity Fair, but I don?t think these are ?extra? photos from that older shoot. Here?s a poor quality snap of the magazine pictorial:
Nice. Sort of. I?m impressed that Angelina did a photo shoot for Vogue Turkey – a magazine that isn?t on every American celebrity?s radar, you know? Angelina has been promoting In the Land of Blood and Honey in several Islamic-heavy markets lately – she even did an interview with Al-Jazeera too. Don?t worry – it?s just as boring as her interviews with Western outlets:
In other Jolie news? eh. Bill O?Reilly was yelling about Angelina?s body at the Oscars, saying on Monday, ?Is it just me or is she looking mighty slim these days? Emaciated even? I was kind of taken aback. Look at the arms on her! Once again the media largely ignoring Ms. Jolie?s physical profile, but she is a role model for some women. I mean, she is slight.? Meh.
Oh, and I guess Brad Pitt has been sent out to do some damage control on Leg-gate, because he was talking about babies with Access Hollywood, post-Oscars. He was asked if he and Angelina plan to have more kids, and he said, ?We average about two a year, so I guess we’re overdue, aren’t we?” And Angelina concurred: ?If they come our way, we’d be happy to have them all. We love children.” Wait, what? ?If they come our way?? Like, if a neighbor child strays into their yard, Angelina is like, ?MINE!??

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have welcomed their third child together, a boy! I’m surprised that Garner had her baby, as I honestly thought she had a couple more weeks left to go. She’s been looking ready for some time, though. This is the third child for the Afflecks. They also have two daughters together: Seraphina, 3, and Violet, 6. It’s thought that dad Ben was hoping for a son, although Jennifer has said that he seemed open to another daughter, too. There’s no word yet as to the baby’s name. Here’s more, from US Weekly:
The couple of seven years welcomed their third child, a baby boy, in Santa Monica, Calif., a source confirms to Us Weekly.
Garner and Affleck’s new little one joins older daughters Violet, 6, and Seraphina, 3.
Announcing her pregnancy in August 2011, Garner, 39, managed to stay mum on the gender of her family’s third baby, and while she admitted she’d be thrilled to have another girl, said Affleck was excited either way.
“I would have thought [he wanted a boy]. At first…I really thought so,” the Arthur actress told Jay Leno in January. “And then [Ben] kind of said, ‘Well, we have girls. We know how to do girls. My girls love me. I’m the big guy in the house.’ So, now I’m not sure.”

Aw, congratulations to Jennifer and Ben on their new arrival! They’re one of my favorite Hollywood couples and they seem so solid lately. Their girls have such nice names that are unique without sounding too experimental or strange. I bet they’ll go with a traditional name for their boy, but we’ll see. I’m actually excited to hear what they named the little guy.

Catching a flight in Sydney, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban walked through the airport hand-in-hand with their girls on Wednesday (February 29).
The "Moulin Rouge!" actress wore a sheer black dress with nude pumps and dark shades while her two daughters both looked pretty in pink.
As for the reason behind the flight, the Kidman-Urban clan is heading back home after spending the past two weeks in the Land Down Under.
During the family's time in Australia, Nicole stepped out for an appearance at the Tropfest 2012 short film festival in Sydney, Australia on Sunday (February 19) and her hubby, Keith, has been tending to his coaching duties on the upcoming Aussie version of "The Voice".

Finishing off her short visit to the west coast, Kristen Stewart was spotted prepping for takeoff in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday (February 28).
The 21-year-old actress was casually dressed for her work week travels, as she toted a carry-on through the LAX terminal before hopping aboard the outbound jet.
The travels come as Miss Stewart enjoyed a low-key Oscar weekend in Tinseltown with her "Twilight" co-star beau Robert Pattinson.
Of seeing the pair at the WME pre-party on Friday night, a source told E!, "They were just being their usual low-key, chill selves."
Another insider at the private soiree added, "They were like everybody else. You know, sweet and for sure together, not showy."

With their brood continuing to expand, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are proud parents for the third time!
The "New Year's Eve" actress and her "The Town" actor hubby welcomed a baby boy in Santa Monica, CA, the couple's rep confirms.
The bundle of joy is Ben and Jen's first male offspring, as the pair are already parents to two adorable daughters, Violet and Seraphina.
"It would be so weird to have a boy," Garner said a few months back on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," while Ben had said after Seraphina's birth that the three-to-one female to male ratio left him "significantly outnumbered". Looks like Ben's situation just got a bit more evened out.

Lucy Liu will play Watson in a new Sherlock Holmes pilot on CBS, a modernization of the Sir Arthur Connan Doyle novel. She’ll be playing Joan Watson while Jonny Lee Miller will play Holmes.
In this version, Joan is a former NYPD consultant who works as asobercompanion. Holmes is a recovering addict and former Scotland Yard consultant.
Look, I’m all for being progressive — I was the first to champion the idea of giving women the right to vote back in 2011, as long as it doesn’t interfere with them making me a sandwich of course — but this is a little ridiculous. A woman playing Watson? So instead of wondering whether Watson is a power bottom or not, we’ll be wondering when Holmes is finally going to roofie Watson?
