Kim Cattrall?s ?feud? with the Sex and the City people started decades ago, during the original HBO show Cattrall was locked into a contract and then Sarah Jessica Parker became executive producer, and SJP made the Samantha Jones character get naked all the time and do stuff which Cattrall really didn?t want to do. Still, Cattrall managed to cash in on the two SATC movies and then she was done. Except SJP wanted to make a third movie and Cattrall said ?no thanks.? That was in 2017, and that?s what led to the simmering beef turning into a very public spat. SJP and her allies smeared Kim in People Magazine, Page Six, the Mail, the Daily Beast. Cattrall in turn called out SJP for being a catty mean girl, and then this happened. In the end, the ?third movie? became And Just Like That without Cattrall?s Sam Jones. The first season of AJTL was well-received, albeit quite messy. They?ve been filming the second season for months, and it looks like Cattrall did agree to make a cameo. In one scene. Without SJP.
For one night only, the ?Sex and the City? universe will be whole again. Variety has learned that Kim Cattrall will reprise her iconic role as Samantha Jones in the Season 2 finale of ?And Just Like That,? Max?s revival of HBO?s ?Sex and the City.?
But she will only appear in one scene. According to sources, Cattrall shot her dialogue on March 22 in New York City, without seeing or speaking with the stars of the series, including Sarah Jessica Parker, or with ?And Just Like That? showrunner Michael Patrick King.
In the scene, Samantha, who in the show has moved to London, will have a phone conversation with Parker?s Carrie Bradshaw. In the first season of ?And Just Like That,? Carrie engaged with an estranged Samantha over text, and in the finale, the two made a plan to see each other in order to reconcile.
Famed ?Sex and the City? costume designer Patricia Field, who has not been working on ?And Just Like That,? dressed Samantha for her scene.
A rep for Cattrall didn?t respond to request for comment. Max did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Cattrall?s appearance as Samantha will not be a continuation of the character for now.

I?m curious how both sides play this. Cattrall made it perfectly clear that she was done with this franchise, done with Sam Jones and especially done with Sarah Jessica. I would imagine that there were middlemen negotiating this fragile and temporary truce and I would also imagine that Kim?s conditions were no SJP and no Michael Patrick King. I hope she got paid big time. I hope she made a cool $1 million for a few hours of work on a soundstage. I don?t blame Cattrall for doing it either it was obvious that SJP wasn?t going to quit this bullsh-t until Kim ?gave in? in some way, so here we go. Kim collects a nice check and she didn?t have to see SJP?s face and it?s all done.

Kim Cattrall is one of Variety?s Power of Women cover subjects. She?s having a full-blown career renaissance these days, scoring interesting supporting roles all over the place. She?s part of the reboot of Queer as Folk, she plays the ?older? version of Hilary Duff in How I Met Your Father, and she?s in a new movie with Robert DeNiro. And with all of that, the bulk of this Variety interview is devoted to how she feels about Sex and the City and the new series And Just Like That, which is SATC-without-Samantha. While Kim left the series ?clean? by saying no to the proposed third movie, there were bad feelings all around, especially between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim. Kim said no to the third SATC movie because they were making Samantha?s plotlines so stupid. SJP slimed Kim in the media, trying to act like it was Kim?s responsibility to do the film no matter what. I still think SJP is such an ahole for the way she behaved. Anyway, Kim is over it. But not so over it that she won?t spill some fun and sad tea with Variety.
Her Power of Women Award honors The Actors Fund: ?It?s so filled with shame if you?re not working or you?re not wanted. Thank God I turned 65 and went on Medicare and I have a nest egg. But that?s scary, how vulnerable you could be.?
What happened to her during the pandemic: ?I voted and I lost my health insurance. I?m a true American.
She still feels like Samantha is still with her: ?Oh yes. Because parts of her are with me. I played her, and I loved her. I felt ultimately protective of her.. I would never want to look back on that with anything other than pride. That I did that, that it existed. I don?t know how I did it sometimes, because it was really scary?I felt like it was a show about single women. I felt like I was now cast as a cougar, which became not as positive as other aspects. People say, ?You coined it.? I didn?t feel that was part of my character. There was never a desperation; it was always on her terms, which I loved.?
Whether she was asked to appear in ?And Just Like That ??: ?I was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did ? on social media.
Her take on AJLT: ?The series is basically the third movie. That?s how creative it was.
She said no to the third movie because it involved Samantha getting dk pics from Brady: ?It?s heartbreaking. Why can?t Samantha, who owns her PR company ? maybe she had to sell it because of financial woes? 2008 was tough. Some people are still recovering. She had to sell it to some guy who?s wearing a hoodie, and that?s the dilemma she has. I mean that?s a scenario that was kind of off the top of one of my reps? heads, and I thought that?s a great idea. That?s a conflict. Instead of an underage boy?s ?
Ultimately, she was ready to say goodbye to Samantha: ?I would have preferred for all of us to have some kind of event to warrant a third film. That didn?t happen. But also, I was ready. And this is exactly what I wished for: to be in different places playing different characters because I?m a character actress. And as difficult as it was, and as scary as it is to stand up and not be bullied by the press or the fans or whomever ? to just say, I?m good. I?m on this track. It was so great working with you. I so enjoyed it, but I?m over here.
How she felt during the second SATC movie: ?Everything in me went, ?I?m done.?
On SJP saying she wouldn?t be okay with Kim coming back to the series: ?Well, it would never happen anyway. So nobody has to worry about that.?
Whether she watched AJLT: ?I certainly heard about it. And I?ve come to the conclusion that really the greatest compliment I could have as an actor is to be missed.
All this talk about SATC & AJLT: ?This feels like an echo of the past. Other than the really wonderful feeling of ? it?s rare in my business ? people wanting more, especially at 65. That feels powerful, that I?ve left something behind that I?m so proud of. I loved her. I loved her so, so, so much. It?s tough competition. The original show is in all of our imaginations. But for me, it feels clean. Yeah, it was years ago. It was 2017 when all this was happening. I just thought to myself, ?No, this is right.? And you can?t go against that feeling. I don?t ever want to be on a set and not want to be there.
Whether she was friends with her SATC costars: ?I guess it?s how you define friends. I think we were colleagues. My colleagues aren?t my friends. It was professional.

She admits that she probably would have said yes to a third film if they were doing something better and more interesting with Samantha, but they weren?t interested in her notes and so she said buh-bye. I laughed at ?Well, it would never happen anyway. So nobody has to worry about that? and ?The series is basically the third movie. That?s how creative it was.? I love her.

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has a new show,Filthy Rich, that premieres tonight on FOX. Kim shared 25 Things You Dont Know About Me with US. She is slightly dyslexic, she speaks German, and she is happily child-free.
Kim is mostly known for her sexier characters such as Samantha from SATC and her role in the 1981 classic Porkys. However, her personal life doesnt reflect those characters. She says she is a romantic monogamist. Recently Kim, 64, said did an interview with People about her boyfriend of four years Russ Thomas, 50. She said she is enjoying her quiet life in Vancouver and her sweet morning ritual of drinking tea with milk with Russ. Here are a few excerpts:
From the beginning, [Russ] and I felt like we needed to get out of town, so we came up to my house in Canada, former Sex and the City star Cattrall, who was born in England, then raised in Vancouver, tells PEOPLE. Im coming home again. The mountains, the orcas, when I was a teenager I didnt appreciate it. But now, theyre bringing me back.
And Cattrall, who was born in Liverpool, says she feels connected to Thomas, born in Kent, England, through their shared roots. Its just so easy, says Cattrall, who was previously married three times. Im very comfortable around him. Hes a firecracker and hes got a wicked sense of humor. And hes easy on the eyes!
And Cattrall and Thomas share a special daily routine shes come to cherish. The day starts with a cup of tea, says the actress. Its hot water over a tea bag, with milk, no sugar and exactly the right temperature. Its very British! We have tea together every morning, and after lunch usually another cup to get through the day.
Ultimately, Cattrall says shes met her match. I love him, she says. And he was worth waiting for.

Samantha was one of my favorite characters on SATC because she just didnt give a f*ck about what people thought about her. I think that part of Sams personality, Kim embodies. I love that she has found love and with a younger and very hot man.
Besides being a bodacious babe, Kim is honestly living my dream life of a being surrounded by beautiful nature (particularly in the mountains near a lake), snuggling in front of a fireplace and sipping on wine or tea. Sorry I kinda got lost in my own fantasy. Anyhow, I definitely will tune into Filthy Rich, it sounds like a campy mess of an evening soap opera like Revenge or Desperate Housewives. I do need a good escape and this just may be it for the fall months.

Throughout much of the fall of 2017 through March-April 2018, one of the biggest stories in gossip was truly about a beef between Sex and the City actresses. The show has been over for 15 years and the two movies were utter trash, but it looked like Sarah Jessica Parker wanted to make a third (terrible) movie and she tried to bully Kim Cattrall into signing on yet again so that Samantha could have the worst and most humiliating storyline. There was a bitchy back-and-forth between Cattrall and SJP and I remain firmly Team Cattrall. At this point, I hope everyone has just moved on and I hope everybody realizes that a third film would be terrible. But people are still asking Kim about it!
They say never say never, but Kim Cattrall has now made it clear she will never partake in Sex and the City 3. The 62-year-old beauty, who played the much loved character of Samantha Jones, confirmed on Sunday that she would never be returning to the franchise, taking a slight jab at known enemy, Sarah Jessica Parker. Speaking with Mail Online, the beauty made light of her ongoing feud, even hinting the 54-year-old wasnt a good person.
When asked if there was any chance shed appear in another Sex and the City movie, she replied Never. Its a no from me, without any hesitation.
You learn lessons in life and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun.

I wouldn?t say Kim is being shady we all know what she?s talking about and she answers the question directly, saying NO of course she?s never going to do another SATC movie. And the lesson from most bad jobs is to ?work with good people.? Even if SJP had never bullied or maligned Kim as they were filming, SJP and all of her little minions definitely ganged up on Kim last year, and for what? It was like they were trying to publicly shame Kim for? simply not wanting to put herself in a bad work situation, with a sh-tty script and a terrible storyline.

Last week, Sarah Jessica Parker announced that the Sex and the City 3 movie wasn?t happening. I thought the film was still in the ?development hell/don?t have a script? phase, but apparently they did have a script and everyone was on board except for Kim Cattrall. SJP actually didn?t mention Cattrall by name when she spoke to Extra – SJP only said that ?we?re not doing it? I?m disappointed.? Of course, the Daily Mail got an exclusive in which unnamed sources did the heavy lifting for Sarah Jessica Parker. Those sources claimed Cattrall made outrageous demands in exchange for her agreement to do SATC3, and that Cattrall wanted a lot of money, etc, etc, diva this, ?playing the victim? that. That DM article was incredibly harsh to Cattrall. And so now Cattrall is addressing the claims that SATC3 isn?t happening because she?s a diva and an a–hole.
Elaborating on her side of the story during an interview taped for Piers Morgan’s ITV show, Life Stories, Kim Cattrall denounced claims against her conduct and turned the tables on her co-star.
“And now, now at this very moment it’s quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’ that I’m demanding or a diva,” Cattrall told Morgan, according to The Daily Mail. “And this is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer. I really think she could have been nicer,” she reiterated. “I don’t know what her issue is, I never have.” However, Cattrall also said, “There is genuine affection and there has been over the years.”
As she elaborated to Morgan, according to The Daily Mail, “This is extenuating circumstances and in the past I’ve felt, wow, especially with the fans I don’t want to in any shape or form ruin an ideal of it, because it does stand for empowerment and it does stand for women sticking up for each other, but not always.”
Overall, it seems Cattrall has lost touch with her castmates. “They all have children and I am ten years older and since specifically the series ended I have been spending most of my time outside of New York so I don’t see them,” she said during the interview. “The common ground that we had was the series and the series is over.”
While questions remain over what caused the third film’s demise, Cattrall insisted she always rejected the project. “The answer was always no and a respectful, firm, no,” Cattrall told Morgan, according to The Daily Mail. “I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous.”
According to The Daily Mail, Cattrall explained during the interview that she had received sporadic calls since December about the project with offers to meet with producers, all of which she said she declined. “This isn’t about more money, this is not about more scenes, it’s not about any of those things,” she told Morgan. “This is about a clear decision, an empowered decision in my life to end one chapter and start another. I’m 61. It’s now.”
While she reportedly declared to Morgan we will never see her on screen as Samantha Jones again, she’s not opposed to recasting the character or introducing a new one entirely.
“I want them to make the movie, if that’s what they want to do. It’s a great part. I played it past the finish line and then some and I loved it and another actress should play it,” she suggested during the interview. “Or bring in another character. It can be another character. This is what I really believe that this franchise needs another point of view and this could be it.”

*shrug* I believe her. I believe that she had been saying no from the beginning. Kim and Sarah Jessica never got along, but they made it work together professionally through the course of the TV show. Kim probably did get nice paychecks for the two movies, and she was done. She?s 61 years old, she doesn?t want to still be playing the sex-starved Samantha at this point. And I admire her for sticking up for what she believed was right for the characters and the story. The second film was an appalling mess and there is no good reason why a third film should be made.

Like Sex and the City character Samantha, who didn?t get much shut eye because of her rampant bed hopping, Kim Cattrall isn?t getting any sleep, but not for nearly as fun of a reason. The 59-year-old actress recently confessed to Britain?s Radio Times that she has been battling chronic insomnia, which forced her to bow out of a play on London?s West End.
Kim, who said that her condition felt like a ?gorilla sitting on my chest,? was forced to drop out of the play Linda two weeks prior to its premiere back in November of 2015. According to the interview, while rehearsing for the play, she initially thought she was just dealing with “jetlag, too much tea or another stage of menopause.” She later quit the play citing doctor?s advice and was replaced by British actress Noma Dumezweni, who recently made headlines when J.K. Rowling cast her as a grown-up Hermione in the London stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
It turns out Noma has been garnering rave reviews for her role in the play, which deals with a 55-year-old woman coming to grips with working for a young boss and dealing with her husband?s affair. Too bad for Kim, as she could probably have used the career boost. She decided to come clean about her insomnia to let women know that, “I?m not a one-off; there are lots of women like me out there.” Here are some other highlights from the interview:
On why she decided to leave the play: I didn?t understand the debilitating consequence of having no sleep. It becomes a tsunami. I was in a void. I didn?t want to let down the audience, the theatre, playwright or the actors.
On the thoughts helping keep her awake at night: I didn’t go to university. I have no children, and I have no husband…I’m guilt-ridden and I’m alone…I’m pressured by an image others have of me. I’m agitated about getting friggin’ older. I would like to be a woman with a husband, and I’d like to change the way people think about women, being a woman.
On dealing with her critics: I have my own voice on social media, where I can say: “If you?re interested in what really happened, the whole story is more complex than being disease of the week,” than someone saying, “I have this battle.”
On the cognitive behavior therapy she?s using to combat her insomnia:It?s like putting on a pair of sneakers and going into your past to get a new perspective. And I was gentle with myself. So last Christmas wasn?t about friends and relations; it was a monastic experience of trying to delve.

I can totally relate to this. Insomnia sucks. I do feel for Kim here. Sleep is so important, if you don?t get enough, it can be a real problem. Hopefully the therapy she’s using is helping and she’s able to finally get some rest.

Kim Cattrall helped host Radio4?s Women’s Hour on the BBC this week, and the conversation turned to the everlasting war between parents and those who don’t have children. From what I have observed with my own friends, there’s so much judginess on both sides of the argument. Even when there isn’t a judgy attitude, both sides feel like the other is judging them, which makes things worse. I do have a kid, and I love her so much, but there are many days when it would be nice to have fewer parental responsibilities. So I perfectly understand why many women (those with or without careers) choose not to go there.
Cattrall spoke at length at those who place a stigma on women who don’t have kids (for whatever reason). She would prefer to be called “childfree” instead of “childless,” and she says her role as an aunt is just as maternal as any mother:
Her preferred term: “It’s the ‘less’ that is offensive – childless – it sounds like you’re ‘less’ because you haven’t had a child.”
She considers herself a mother: “I have young actors and actresses that I mentor, I have nieces and nephews that I am very close to so I think the thing that I find questionable about being childless or childfree is – are you really? There is a way to become a mother in this day and age that doesn’t include your name on the child’s birth certificate. You can express that maternal side very clearly, very strongly. I am a parent [too]. (She instead helped her niece though medical school and her nephew when he had a hard time joining the army.) “Those are very motherly things to do, very maternal things to do, very nurturing things to do, so I feel I am a mother of sorts.”
On deciding not to get pregnant: “I think for many women from my generation it wasn’t actually a conscious choice, it was a feeling of, ‘Well, I’m on this road, and things are going really well, and I’m very happy, and I’ll do it next year, I’ll do it in two years, I’ll do it in five years.” Later on, “I just thought, ‘I don’t know if I want it that much.’ I just believe, and have always believed since my 40s, that there are many different ways to be a mum.”

I see why Cattrall takes such a strong stance in her “childfree” terminology. It probably does feel very freeing for many people to not have to worry about feeding, clothing, and taking tons of time to care for another human. Parenting is so hard, and anyone who doesn’t want to do it should never go there. In that vein, some people do want to become parents and cannot, so the use of “childless” also isn’t the most sensitive term to use. In a perfect world, everyone would stop worrying about everyone else’s lives, you know?

During the six-season run of “Sex and the City” as an HBO show, I was a faithful viewer of the program. Actually, let’s start over — for the first four seasons, I adored the show as a guilty pleasure, and for the final two seasons, I tolerated the demise of what was enjoyable and fun about the four main characters. Then the executive producers had the bright idea to make not just one but two films that turned the entire franchise into a caricature of itself. Like many other people, these movies put a very bad taste in my mouth; as a result, I can no longer go back and enjoy old episodes of the show. So it does not come as pleasing news to learn that the CW is proceeding with “The Carrie Diaries,” which will serve as a prequel revolving around the high-school-aged exploits of Carrie before she hooks up with Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha. What’s more, they’ve cast Annasophia Robb (Soul Surfer, Race to Witch Mountain) in the role of Carrie, which could prove to be an early career killer for Robb if the show fails miserably. Will anyone actually tune in to watch it?
Annasophia Robb has some big — not to mention fashionable — shoes to fill.
The actress, 18, is set to play a high school version of the Manolo Blahnik-obsessing, love-chasing Carrie Bradshaw, a role originated by Sarah Jessica Parker in HBO’s Sex and the City, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
The CW has ordered a pilot episode of The Carrie Diaries, which will chronicle Bradshaw’s teen days in ’80s Manhattan, long before penning her sex column.
Also getting carried away with Robb, who portrayed real-life survivor Bethany Hamilton in last year’s Soul Surfer: The Killing’s Katie Findlay and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the Worlds Ellen Wong, who will play two of Bradshaw’s friends ? presumably before she meets BFFs Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).
The series, which will also star Running Wilde’s Stefania Owen as Carrie’s little sister Dorritt, is based on author Candace Bushnell’s Sex and the City prequel of the same name.

Last July, Blake Lively was being considered for the role of Samantha Jones while producers were still sort of envisioning the prequel as a movie with Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie (like she’d really go there). Kaiser and I were discussing how Blake’s fame hustling through relationships with Leo DiCaprio and Ryan Reynolds has actually increased her profile so much that, ironically, she’d probably now consider an SATC prequel series on the CW as too “downmarket” for her worth as an actress. Then again, Blake’s still appearing in “Gossip Girl” these days, right?
As to the decision to cast Robb, who to date has mostly appeared in wholesome movies, in the role of 1980s Carrie, meh. I just hope she enjoys wearing Guess jeans and Jessica McClintock dresses.

Stepping out for a morning interview on the "Today" show, Kim Cattrall paid a visit to NBC studios in New York City on Thursday (March 31).
The ?Sex and the City? babe looked a bit beleaguered after her morning show sitdown as she promotes her upcoming film titled ?Meet Monica Velour?.
Perhaps Cattrall was feeling a bit under the weather after having one too many cocktails before attending Wednesday night?s NYC premiere of her new flick.
During the red carpet media session, the tipsy 54-year-old actress was chatting with a news reporter when she became perturbed at the topics on hand.
Snapping at the female, Cattrall said, "Why don't you work at--what's that news agency?Roybers (It's Reuters.) "Yeah, sorry, I've been drinking," she said when corrected.
"What about writing for a blog? Then you can write about what you want (or) care about," she added angrily.
Of being asked about the bikini wax, Kim barked, "That's a stupid question. You're a smart girl. How could you want to write that?"
The actress got even more livid when she learned that the reporter hadn't seen her movie. "You didn't see my film," she huffed. "Why are you even here?"

I?ve been somewhat surprised that Kim Cattrall has had career longevity beyond Sex and the City. I know people have opinions about the character of Samantha, but I thought Cattrall was the deftest and most talented comedienne on the show, and I enjoy seeing her work beyond the Sam character. She popped up in a small role in the completely underrated Polanski film, The Ghost Writer (I know, it?s Polanski, but it?s also one of Pierce Brosnan?s best performances ever, plus EWAN!). And my mother keeps telling me I should watch My Boy Jack, where she plays the wife of Rudyard Kipling. Anyway, my point is that I like her, and that she?s still working.
Her latest project is Meet Monica Velour. Kim plays an aging porn star/single mother, and I keep seeing interviews with Kim where she?s talking about how she gained weight for the role. Unfortunately, Kim doesn?t stick to her talking points in every interview. Page Six reports this morning that when they sat down to interview Kim for the film, she was a mess. Like, she was yelling at the reporter. And she might have been drunk too. Yikes.
Cranky Kim Cattrall grumped about Hollywood’s bias against older women after the premiere of “Meet Monica Velour” — and told us to get a “respectable” job.
The “Sex and the City” star, who has criticized Hollywood’s obsession with the young and the beautiful, denying talented older actresses plum roles, told us, “Ask me about being a woman. Do you know what it’s like to be 54 and marginalized? It doesn’t get easier as you get older.”
But Cattrall — who put on 20 pounds for her “Monica Velour” movie role as an aging former porn star living in a rural Indiana trailer park and stripping to make ends meet — had even tougher words to say about working for a gossip column.
When we tried to break the ice with Cattrall, mentioning a ridiculous tip we’d gotten earlier in the day about her getting a bikini wax — a well-tackled subject on “SATC” — she snapped, “That’s a stupid question. You’re a smart girl. How could you want to write that?”
She then turned her anger on gossip columns, specifically Page Six, despite our being big fans of hers. “It’ll chew you up and spit you out,” she said, leaning in and adding that being a gossip reporter just isn’t a “respectable job.”
Cattrall asked, “Why don’t you work at — what’s that news agency — Roybers?” When we corrected her, “Reuters,” she conceded, “Yeah, sorry, I’ve been drinking.”
But she didn’t stop there, ranting, “What about writing for a blog? Then you can write about what you want [or] care about.”
Cattrall, holding court at the after-party at the Pamella Roland-sponsored bash at downtown Hotel Chantelle’s rooftop, seemed peeved that because of our deadlines, we hadn’t arrived in time to see her movie — in which her gritty role is a dramatic change from her glamorous and famously oversexed “Sex and the City” character, Samantha Jones.
“You didn’t see my film,” she spat. “Why are you even here?”

Maybe Kim was just having a bad night. Maybe she was drunk. Maybe the Page Six girl was really rude. I don?t know. How bad is this? If it was a younger, greener celebrity, it would probably be worse, wouldn?t it? Considering Kim is usually a professional, I think maybe people will give her a pass, if they pay attention at all. I don?t know, it?s not like Kim just told the woman to ?F- off? - Kim made the effort to give an argument for why she was berating the woman.
By the way, did anyone watch Kim?s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? That junk was crazy! Like, she?s one generation away from a bigamist!
