Supposedly the 21st annual SAG Awards were held last night, and I know it’s my job to at least pretend to watch this stuff. But Ididn’t, because I had more important things to do — like fall asleep on my couch. That said, if I’d knownSofia Vergara was going to show looking this good, I […]

| Claire Danes in army green Marc Jacobs at the SAGs: cool or weird? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Claire Danes’s style can be hit or miss. She takes risks often, but they haven’t been paying off as of late. That’s why I’m somewhat impressed with her green Marc Jacobs gown. It has a lot going on; there’s a cutout at the ribs, an industrial-looking wrap belt, a crisscross neckline, and circle appliques along each side. Somehow it all works together, and just looks cool. Her styling is so pretty too. I would lighten up the black eyeliner, but that’s a minor complaint.
Also in green is SAG winner Patricia Arquette, who has been sweeping the Best Supporting Actress category this awards season. I don’t want to jinx it, but I’m looking forward to her Oscars speech. She’s in Vivienne Westwood, who also dressed Sophia Bush. There’s something off about the draping as a whole, but the neckline is lovely. I really noticed the detail on camera. Here’s Patricia’s acceptance speech. She always seems so genuine and I loved what she said about her kids being perfect and how her family has been acting through feast and famine. Patricia lost her mom, Olivia, in 1997, and she ended her speech by saying to her mom “you are my hummingbird you are always with me.” That got me choked up.
Lorelei Linklater is 20 years old. I can’t believe it, but that’s the magic of Boyhood. She’s very goth and cute in an Honor gown with bell sleeves and a lace back. I bet that she had a hand in designing that gown. It looks like several outfits I owned in the early 90s when I was around her age.

| Keira Knightley in maternity Erdem at the SAGs: lovely or poorly designed? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

As many of you rightly claimed yesterday, Benedict Cumberbatch didn?t show up at the SAGs yesterday. It?s pretty depressing. What?s the use of all of that hustling and quote-dropping if you?re not even going to show up to the major awards shows? I would have loved to see Bendy?s face when Eddie Redmayne won. But no, Bendy was stuck in England, maybe working on Sherlock. His name was still included on all the presenters? lists up until air time.
So, in Sophie Hunter?s absence, Keira Knightley carried the Erdem mantle. I sort of liked this on the E! red carpet, but in photos? I don?t like it so much. Nice stuff: I like that she went for a bolder, more red carpet look with her hair and makeup. She?s been looking very ?I just washed my face and threw on some lip gloss? on other red carpets. I like the color of this Erdem too ? the color alone looks beautiful on her. But no, I don?t like the dress all that much. I think it?s a mistake to put a peplum/ruffle on a pregnant girl. I?m also really tired of the sheer-bust panel trend. It never looks good. Ever.
And here are some other British girls, some of the Downton Abbey crew. I missed seeing Michelle Dockery (icy bitch Lady Mary) on the red carpet. But Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) looked good in her Vionnet gown. I think Laura is a pretty woman, but they really make her look homely on Downton. Styling is everything! Joanne Froggatt wore a nice Honor gown. They still shouldn?t have won.

| Reese Witherspoon in white Armani at the SAGs: perfectly styled or bridal? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

These were two of my favorite ladies at last night?s SAG Awards. Reese Witherspoon wins a lot of ?Best? awards for me in this look. She had the best white gown, the best ponytail, best American Citizen and easily one of the best overall looks. Her white gown is custom Armani, and she accessorized with Harry Winston jewels. This is what I like about Reese ? she?s old enough to know what silhouettes look best on her and she manages to find a balance with ?sticking with what works? and ?changing it up just enough to make it interesting.? Like, Jennifer Aniston can?t find that balance. Aniston looks like she stepped off a red carpet in 1997. Reese manages to look both classic and modern. Also: who knew Reese had such a cute booty?
And now I?m worried about my Julianna Margulies love. In motion, on the E! red carpet show, I LOVED Julianna?s Giambattista Valli. I thought it was fresh and interesting and a great color. But in still photos, does it still work? Or does that swoop detail ruin it? From the waist up, Julianna is perfection, so let?s give her that. But I?m still undecided on the bottom half.

| Emmy Rossum in Armani Privé at the SAGs: one of the best looks of the night? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

My favorite dress last night was on presenter Emmy Rossum, who was also there to support her Shameless costar, William H. Macy. Macy won the SAG for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series! I’ll have more on that in a moment. Emmy was in a gorgeous Armani Prive silver sequin gown featuring a mesh skirt overlay. In some angles it looks like Rossum is wearing a short skirt underneath but that’s not the case; the sun is hitting her at an angle that makes her skirt look short. On camera this gown flowed gracefully behind her and in still photos its amazing too. This was my favorite look of the night but I’m biased since I love Rossum and Shameless.
Here’s Macy with his lovely wife Felicity Huffman, who is in a black Lorena Sarbu cap sleeve dress with a dripping beaded neckline. When Macy won his SAG he said “Flicka I love going to bed with you too.” During his backstage press conference he explained that Felicity was nicknamed after a saint when she was a child. (You can see his press conference video here.) This is the first SAG for Shameless, and I hope one of many more to come. If you haven’t seen the show, it’s worth subscribing to Showtime for, as is Ray Donovan.
I’m putting Sophia Bush in here because I’m not sure where else to put her. She’s in Vivienne Westwood. There’s just too much going on with this dress. There’s draping in both the bodice and the skirt and coupled with her curled tucked-under hair it just looks fussy. I know some people loved it, but it seems busy to me.

| Julianne Moore in emerald Givenchy at the SAGs: gorgeous & classic? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Julianne Moore has just been radiant this awards season. Maybe it?s the radiance that comes from a winning streak. Maybe she just takes excellent care of her skin. Maybe she?s simply a happy person. Whatever it is, she?s never looked better and that goes for her awards style too. What I like about her green Givenchy is that it?s not an in-your-face ?look.? The dress is pretty simple, really. It?s an easy silhouette, in a bold emerald tone, and her styling was kept very simple too. And that?s why it works. After years of seeing Julianne try and fail with high-fashion looks, she?s edited it down and she ends up looking classic. Watch it though, now that I?ve said all of that, she?ll look like ten kinds of hell at the Oscars.
As for this emerald green ? I love a redhead in green. And the color reminds me of the Prada she wore to the Oscars more than a decade ago. The one bad thing I have to say is that she could have rethought the Chopard earrings.
Here?s Julianne?s acceptance speech when she won Best Actress for Still Alice. I love that she name-checked her time on a soap opera! She played twins on As the World Turns.
Here?s another favorite, Tatiana Maslany. Her guy is Tom Cullen (he?s Lord Gillingham on Downton Abbey). Her dress is Oscar de la Renta. It?s a bold choice for her ? when she was on the E! show, you could see the dress in close-up and it was stunning and different. Those stripes were really amazing. In these photos, the stripes look kind of grey though. Still, this was a good choice for her and I hope she gets even more attention for the crazy work she does on Orphan Black.

| Jennifer Aniston in 'vintage' John Galliano at the SAGs: sexy or dated' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
There?s some debate in the fashion industry as to when you can label something ?vintage?. Some people use ?vintage? as a descriptor for any article of clothing that is more than a few years old, like a short-hand for saying ?this isn?t fresh off the runway.? Some believe that something can only be labeled vintage after a certain amount of time has passed, like, say, 20 years. Jennifer Aniston described her SAG Awards dress as ?vintage Galliano.? It?s from 1998. What do you think? Seventeen years old? is it really vintage? Also, I think it?s interesting that it?s from that particular year. 1998 was Jennifer?s hey-day and the year she started dating Brad Pitt. Coincidence?! (Probably.)
So, what are your thoughts? The first thing I saw when Aniston and Justin Theroux hit the red carpet was her cleavage. It?s like she?s doubling-down on her bra-hatred, especially after she received criticism for her saggy appearance at the Critics? Choice. I?ll give her this: her cleavage didn?t look as saggy at the SAGs. Still, I wish would find a dress with more support, or just stop with the LOOK AT MY BODY LOOK AT MY HAIR routine. The dress itself is okay ? I like that she didn?t wear black, and the gold set off her hair and her tan.
Her jewelry is by Fred Leighton. I didn?t know Fred Leighton made body chains, but sure. This whole thing just reminds me of how dated Jennifer can be with her styling. She loves body chains, toe rings, and the same haircut she?s had since 1995. It?s like we?re about to do Jell-O shots and listen to Chumbawamba. As for Justin Theroux? The Eyebrow was looking sweaty. Apparently, it was very warm on that red carpet. I hope he was wearing deodorant.

| Kaley Cuoco in strapless Romona Keveza at the SAGs: boring or bold? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I loved Kaley Cuoco’s bright red Romona Keveza gown at the SAGs. I cannot say the same for her styling apart from her jewelry, however. First the good stuff: her gown was tailored beautifully, it clung in all the right places and it had a perfect little bow belt. She was wearing jewelry by Forevermark diamonds. (They sent us a press release but didn’t include the carats on all the pieces. There were probably too many too count.) Kaley would be working it apart from her hair. It’s like Kaiser says, she lost her mojo with this haircut. This looks like a front comb-over, but it’s not entirely due to the length. Her hair was so much cuter at The Wedding Ringer premiere earlier this month. I didn’t see her husband there at all last night, which makes me wonder if everything is ok with them. (I doubt it.)
Here’s Kaley’s costar Melissa Rauch in a Pamella Roland gown. Again, perfectly lovely gown with bad hair. I’m wondering if the Big Bang hairstylist is just lousy at his/her job. Rach’s dress is bold, I love the combination of Pink and red, the sweetheart neckline and I also like how the bodice kind of wings down on the sides into the skirt. It’s interesting and fun. Her bangs look like a helmet, though. I’m not as anti-bang as Kaiser, I like piecey and layered bangs, but these are too much.
Also in red we have Anna Chlumsky in an Escada gown with a deep keyhole neckline. The details on this gown are interesting and I really like the way the white neckline opens up to show the red dress underneath. It’s clever and yet doesn’t look busy to me.
Sarah Paulson was in black and white Giorgio Armani gown that really works. I love how simple and yet striking it is, with a kind of crop tank top over a long skirt with a slight train. I like her short bob too. Maybe there’s hope for Kaley in a month or two.

| Maggie Gyllenhaal in white Thakoon at the SAGs: gorgeous or frumpy? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Maggie Gyllenhaal wore Thakoon to the SAGs last night where she was nominated for The Honourable Woman. This dress looked fantastic in motion, but in not so much in photos. She’s dropped her frumpy tendencies below the shoulders. Something’s still off. It’s the hair, right? Maggie’s sticking with the pixie cut. The dress is nice though, and the white looks very clean and crisp. Maggie’s jewelry was Fred Leighton, including Victorian gold pendant earrings and a 1940s-style peridot and diamond ring.
Matthew McConaughey worked his Civil War vibe in a blue Brioni suit. The style star of this couple was Camila Alves. I loved her Donna Karan Atelier gown. She knew how to work the asymmetrical offshoot into a side train. She looked gorgeous without pulling focus from Matthew, whose blue suit was shouty.
Caitriana Balfe wore another beautiful gown. This is Solace. The fluttery fabric reminds me of the flames of a fire. How poetic. The styling is on point down to the off-orange shoes.
Amanda Peet wore one of the worst dresses of the night. This J. Mendel whipped up a casual saloon look with a rack shelf to boot. She’s so pretty, but this dress is fug.
Paula Patton‘s style hasn’t improved much since splitting from Robin, but at least her Aiisha Ramadan dress didn’t include any mesh overlays. This look is very bridal with Gordman’s craft appliques.

| Jennifer Lawrence wore Prada at the PGAs: stunning or too Vegas-y? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Jennifer Lawrence attended the PGAs Saturday night as a presenter. I’ve missed her so much since she’s skipped most of this awards season. Something interesting happened — Birdman took the top producing prize. The winner of that award has scored best picture at the Oscars for the past seven years. I won’t be disappointed if the streak continues. Birdman was pretty awesome and deserves all of its nominations.
Jennifer switched up her routine and wore a Prada dress. I like it? Even with the weird, embellished belly patch, this is a gorgeous, Grecian-inspired gown. The back view is better than the front. The general consensus is that JLaw deserves recognition whenever she steps away from Dior, but her red carpet taste isn’t fantastic. She picked a good one here. Her shoes are also Prada, and she wore Irene Neuwirth earrings with and a Shay ring.
Jennifer presented Jon Feltheimer with the PGA milestone recipient award. Her speech was a nice mixture of self-deprecating humor and semi-professionalism. Here’s part of the transcript:
“Hello, past, present, and hopefully future employers. I wish I’d have thought to ask one of you for a Xanax, whoo! I normally say no to this kind of thing on the account of my crippling anxiety and the unbreakable bond between woman and couch. But I when I heard it was for Feltheimer, I had to say yes because I just assumed that I was contractually obligated. And then when I found out that I wasn’t, I had already picked out this dress. Jon has been in this business longer than I’ve been alive. I love saying that. Anything like that. And he’s exceeded expecations with anything he’s made throughout his career. He’s known for looking towards the future and adapting studio models to successfully change with the times. He’s not only held his CEO title with Lionsgate for almost 15 years, come this March, but leadership positions at Sony and New World Entertainment. And his assistant also has amazing taste when it comes to star gifts. I was so afraid of signing on to these movies a few years ago because something that size can make or break a career. I put my trust in Lionsgate and they put their trust in me and now I think we have a strong and amazing relationship that I hope lasts until my career dies at 35. … Jon was charged to insure that Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games incredible trilogy of books was respectfully brought to life in four films and it was a … large f***ing failure!”
[From YouTube]
Yay, that was a good speech! She was clearly kidding about the Hunger Games‘ failure. It’s nice to see a presenter show proper respect for an award recipient but also manage to interject some humor into a speech. JLaw’s often labelled as goofy, but she gave a nice deadpan delivery here. Nicely done.

| Julia Roberts in a Givenchy onesie at the SAGs: pretty or unflattering? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

A lot of people loved Julia Roberts? Givenchy ensemble as soon as she came on the SAG carpet last night. I just picked up on the sillhouette at first, and I did like it. I like Julia in a sleek, tailored, menswear-inspired look. But I thought this was a slim-cut suit and it?s not. It?s a ONESIE. So? no. I don?t like this on principle. Can we make this a rule? No onesies on the red carpet. Please? But! There is some nice stuff to say. For one, Julia isn?t doing that horrid blonde shade anymore and the red looks gorgeous. Her hair overall was the best it?s looked in years. Her makeup was amazing. And the Givenchy showed off the perfect amount of cleavage.
By the way, did everyone enjoy how Julia made presenting an award all about the most important person in the room, Julia Roberts? You know why? It?s because she lost her award. Julia Roberts deigned to do a TV movie and no one has given her any awards for her efforts! So when she got up there to present Best Actor, she had to remind everyone that her costar, Mark Ruffalo, won and that she worked with him and he probably wouldn?t even EXIST if not for Julia Roberts, and it was like she knew we were all desperate to hear how Julia Roberts felt about Mark Ruffalo winning an award.
Meryl Streep barely posed on the red carpet, because let?s face it: Meryl has no more f?ks to give. You might even say that the awards shows were trolling her with all of her nominations this year, just trying to prove a point: that Meryl Streep will literally get a nomination for ANYTHING. And at this point, Meryl is tired of getting all dressed up and trying to ?work? a carpet. Besides, she knows she?s not going to win this year. So Meryl wore this completely normal and uneventful Lanvin dress. Full disclosure: I would love to own this dress. I love a wrap dress with sleeves. But this looks like something Meryl already had in her closet, and like something she?s worn to at least four other events (this year). Hey, at least she got to hang out with JULIA.

| Sofia Vergara in Donna Karan at the SAGs: lovely or not that great? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Here are the ladies of Modern Family at the SAG Awards last night. Nobody from Modern Family won anything, which was a sweet relief (although Eric Stonestreet looked like he was pissed). The biggest moment for all the Modern Family people ? I guess? ? was that Sofia Vergara walked her first awards show red carpet with her fianc, Joe Manganiello. I don?t really know what to say about them. For what it?s worth, I think Joe and Sofia suit each other a lot better than Sofia and Nick Loeb. Joe seemed happy to escort Sofia to this show and he didn?t try to jack her moment at all. I?m not personally into Joe, but I do think they work well together.
As for Sofia?s fashion? this is Donna Karan Atelier. Sigh? I don?t like it. I don?t mind that Sofia sticks with silhouettes that work on her figure, nor do I mind that she usually chooses bright colors. But I hated the one-strap and I hated this shade of red. It was too tomato-y. If she?s going to wear red, I kind of think it should be more of a blue-red. She was also shilling her Kay Jewelry line on the carpet too. PS? Check out her engagement rock.
Maybe I?m on crack, but I didn?t hate Julie Bowen?s Georges Hobeika gown. I mean, FOR HER, it was fine. It might even be one of her better looks. Is it bridesmaid-y? Sure. Does it wash her out? Sure. Did she need to do something else with her hair? Of course. But still? it?s not the worst.
Ariel Winter is only 16 years old! I feel for her ? I developed a big bust pretty early too, although I think Ariel?s are bigger than mine ever were. She might have a breast reduction in her future. I have to say though ? I thought she looked very pretty in this Zac Posen gown. It?s difficult to find something pretty and flattering when you?re that big-busted, trust me. But this is good. She was smart to go with a clean, minimalist look.
Sarah Hyland wore this Vera Wang gown that a lot of people liked on Twitter. I?m not crazy about it, but what I really hated was her hair. She?s a pretty girl, but the blonde isn?t working on her.

| Naomi Watts in navy Balenciaga at the SAGs: plain or pretty? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Naomi Watts was at the SAGs last night for both Birdman and St. Vincent, for which she was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role. That SAG of course went to Patricia Arquette, who is winning everything this season. Naomi didn’t seem to mind. I remember watching her get choked up at the Globes at Arquette’s heartfelt speech. (She wasn’t nominated at the Globes though.) Plus Naomi had a huge consolation prize, Birdman won the Best Ensemble Award. I was surprised, I expected Boyhood to win that category but it seems like Birdman is a contender and has a real fighting chance at the Oscars.
While she was going up to the mic to accept the award, Naomi tripped over Emma Stone’s weird sheer train. You can see a gif of that here and it’s about :30 into the video below. As for Naomi’s navy Balenciaga gown, it’s a little plain for my taste but it does fit her like a glove. It looks more like a gown for a holiday ball as it’s very tasteful and staid. She’s accessorized with Bvlgari jewels, which are fabulous.
Naomi’s costar Andrea Riseborough was in this goofy mint green Escada gown featuring a silver knot ribbon along the neckline ending in a sort of double bow. I’m not fond of the color or the fit of this gown although it’s interesting. Riseborough is such a chameleon. She looks so different with and without makeup.
Amy Ryan’s loose bright Pink gown looks very comfortable, if not the most fashion-forward. In photos I don’t like it at all but on screen it looked ok. It’s a kind of tank top over a long skirt. I don’t have a designer ID at this point but I’ll update when I’m able to find it.
Here’s the Birdman cast accepting their award. Zach Galifianakis quipped “When I was on As The World Turns…” which was a reference to Julianne Moore’s speech. He looks like a different person he’s lost so much weight.
