Kate Winslet covers the March issue of Harper?s Bazaar UK. She?s getting a lot of criticism for looking so airbrushed and Photoshopped, but if you look at the close-up shots, I actually think she looks relatively normal/like herself. But yes, the photo of Winslet in the black trench coat is probably Photoshopped to make her look slimmer. I?m okay with it. Mostly I?m just happy that Kate doesn?t look so pulled and Botoxy anymore. She?s actually asked point-blank if she?s ever Botoxed and she denies it, saying she just uses some Lancome product (she?s one of the faces of Lancome). Some highlights from the piece:
Her two divorces & how it affects her children: ?I think it?s very important to teach your children to struggle on some level. I would honestly say that I wouldn?t change a thing. Even all the bad bits. It doesn?t matter how ***** times have been, they all matter, because those things shape who you are. And if you don?t like who you are, well, then you?re ****** really, aren?t you?’
Body pressures: ?There?s a big part of me ? now, more than ever before ? that feels a sense of responsibility for how other women view themselves. Take having the baby, for instance. Have I actively been on a diet to lose my baby weight? No, I haven?t. I genuinely bloody haven?t. I so didn?t want to be one of those, ?Oh, wow, she?s back in shape after 12 weeks? women. When I read things like that, I just think, ?Oh, for f**k’s sake, that?s actually impossible.??
When asked if she?s had Botox or fillers: ”Oh f**k no! No! It’s this incredible serum – Lancome’s Visionnaire Cx. You’re going to think I’m just saying this because I’m the face of the brand but honestly, honestly, you have to believe me. ‘This stuff is magic. I just bung it on every day under my moisturiser, or make-up, or whatever, and it really does make a difference. And I’m 39 next week, so I need all the bloody help I can get.”

Back in 2011, I somewhat controversially stated that I believed that Winslet had some kind of significant face work done. Looking back at those photos? yeah, I still believe it. I think she either had some eye work or a facelift. She looked especially ?tight? and ?pulled?. But whatever happened, her face gradually went back to relative normalcy. I do not believe she was messing with her face while pregnant with baby Bear, and I think that helped a lot. So while I think she looks good, I do think she could cool it with the talk about how she?s so natural.

Star Magazine claims that Mariah Carey is abusing sizzurp, prescription cough syrup with codeine, to the point where insiders are concerned. I’m sure the woman who holds the straw for her to drink it is concerned, but it’s not like she would last long if she said anything about it. According to Star, Mariah begged doctors for a prescription to the stuff, citing her voice problems, and they obliged. Then she “lost” the first prescription and needed another one. Sizzurp is highly addictive and often abused. Here’s Star’s report:
Mariah consulted throat experts [following her voice problems during the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting], who recommended total voice rest. The problem: Mariah is a chatty diva and couldn?t bear not talking to her kids or refraining from ordering her staff around. So her voice got worse, and she begged doctors for a syrup scrip.
?Mariah?s team was adamantly against it, worried she?d develop a problem,? says a close insider of the singer, who is often seen with a glass of wine in her hand. ?Needless to say, just days after receiving a prescription, Mariah had her people call a doctor to say she lost her prescription and needed another one. The truth is? she?d already drank all the syrup and wanted more!?

I was about to blow off this report as not true or not that important, and then I saw Mariah’s lip syncing fail video. TMZ has video (below) of Mariah performing at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival in Trewlaney, Jamaica on Friday. Mariah looks out of it as she struggles to lip sync to “Fantasy.” The worst part comes at about :40 in, when she adjusts her tight dress and either forgets the words or doesn’t bother to try and look like she’s singing them. Mariah has had several instances of her voice failing during live concerts, so I guess she’s not taking any more chances.
It’s possible that Mariah’s earpiece isn’t on time with the music and that’s why she’s having problems. There’s a longer video on YouTube, and you can see her messing with her earpiece and trying to hear the songs. “Fantasy” is one of her biggest hits, she must have the lyrics down. If she’s having trouble lipping because she’s wasted on sizzurp/purple drank she should watch it. Sizzurp has caused multiple deaths and can lead to respiratory failure, especially when mixed with alcohol. Whatever is going on, she should at least be nailing the lyrics as she tries to mime them.

Here are some photos of Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux out in Santa Barbara on Friday night. They were attending the Santa Barbara Film Festival, where Aniston picked up the Montecito Award for her work in Cake. She didn?t let Justin walk the carpet with her or pose for photos with her. At least she didn?t make him stay in the car! As for her outfit, I cannot find the ID to save my life. I think the ensemble is probably Saint Laurent ? she?s been wearing so much Saint Laurent lately (so has The Leg), plus that belt feels very YSL-y. I’m glad she finally covered up her girls, and I like it when she wears pants. I just feel like these pants could have been hemmed a bit better.
Not only did Jennifer get the award, but she also sat down for a two-hour Q&A/discussion for the fans. She talked about how she got the part of Rachel on Friends (a story I feel like we?ve heard about a million times) ? go here to read. She also talked a bit about how difficult it is for her to get hired for Cake-like films, because people only think of her as a rom-com queen.
Her rom-com reputation: It?s ?sort of blessing and a curse? Usually I don’t even get the opportunity to get in the room because it’s usually given to an actress who is already in the director’s mind or the screenwriter’s mind. And usually I’m not put onto those lists ? ‘Too much baggage with that’ or ‘Won’t be able to disappear’ or all that kind of stuff, which makes me just more and more to want to find something that I can dig my heels into.”
The paparazzi & the tabloids: “It’s a real distraction and it’s a real hassle. It’s just one of those things that’s unfortunately out of anyone’s control, and so you just have to hope that you can get through a take without one of them screaming something or using their flashbulbs if you’re doing a night shoot. And when you’re out there being quite vulnerable and emoting and all of that stuff, having these, you know, animals over there is disheartening. It’s an added challenge. It’s not something they teach you or they warn you about.”
On Justin Theroux: “He?s an amazing character actor and actor period.” She said she first met Theroux when he was shooting 2008?s Tropic Thunder, but first worked ? and fell in love with him ? on 2012?s Wanderlust, noting, “He kind of steals the movie!”

While I think she?s probably dead-on in her assessment of why she isn?t offered darker, more dramatic roles ? because people only think of her as a bubbly rom-com princess ? I feel like she?s also missing one other reason why she isn?t offered the kind of juicy roles she thinks she should have: because literally no one is buying it. She?s never been able to carry a film on her own. Pair her with a strong leading man, sure. Put her in an ensemble, sure. She does well enough. But she?s not being offered the juicy roles in dark dramas because she?s never been able to show that A) she can pull them off or B) that anyone will go see the film with Aniston in the lead.
Also: do you think it?s shade that she calls Justin a ?character actor?? I do not. He IS a character actor, just as Jennifer is a character actress, except she thinks she?s a leading lady. But that?s the thing? Justin might think of himself as a leading man. Which is why I don?t know if it?s shade to call him a character actor. It?s like Jennifer is saying ?You?re never going to be more than part of an ensemble. But I still love you.?
There’s some discussion about whether Aniston will be invited to present at the Oscars. I think she might be asked, and if asked, I think she would show up. Especially if the producers aren’t inviting Brangelina. But Brad is one of the producers on Selma, which is up for Best Picture, so who knows?
Last thing ? Page Six says Jennifer had a ?girls? night? with Chelsea Handler, Sandra Bullock and some other ladies in West Hollywood last week.

These are photos from this weekend?s 2015 G?Day USA gala in Hollywood. Chris won the Excellence in Film Award, which was presented to him by his Avengers costar Scarlett Johansson. Chris seemed very pleased to see ScarJo and they posed together for a long time on the red carpet. Such a long time, in fact, that Chris barely had time to pose with Elsa Pataky, his wife. Elsa looked like she was starved for the flash of cameras, right? I do not believe that it was Elsa?s choice to move the family to Australia. That was Chris?s decision, maybe as a way to shortstop Elsa?s fame-hungry ways. Or maybe it?s just because he a grumpy bugger.
As for the ladies? style, Elsa wore this green Angel Sanchez dress. It?s pretty on her, but I don?t care for that faux-wrap detail in the front, it?s giving her a phantom bump. Scarlett?s dress was Preen and I don?t really care for it. The fringe doesn?t make me think of luxury and quality construction, you know? It?s very ?cheap lampshade.? With Scarlett?s really short haircut (which is a relatively new thing, she?s only had that hair for a month or two), I thought she was Elsa in the thumbnails. Elsa?s hair used to be that short, but I guess Elsa is growing her hair out again.
During her speech at the event, ScarJo sort of went on and on about Chris’s hotness, and then when Chris got up there, he said his wife was the best thing that every happened to him, etc. You can read some of their speeches here.
Quick question: why hasn?t Chris Hemsworth had to eat it for the box office failure of Blackhat, plus his crappy attitude towards the press, LA and media in general? It feels like Hemsworth is coasting these days and I can?t really explain how or why there?s residual goodwill towards him.
