| Sienna Miller in Oscar de la Renta at the Oscars: beautiful or boring? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Sienna Miller‘s big return to Hollywood landed on the Oscar red carpet last night. This could have been a stunning moment, but I feel like she played it too cautious. It’s hard to blame her for being gunshy given her past life as a messy starlet. Sienna opted for a midnight blue Oscar de la Renta dress with embroidery detail and black, belted bows. This isn’t a bad dress, but it doesn’t scream Academy Awards. This is a dress one wears when they want to go unnoticed. It worked. Sienna even downplayed her hair and makeup. Her trademark messy bob could have made for an interesting contrast, but no.
Here’s some bonus Tom Sturridge and Robert Pattinson at the Vanity Fair party. Sparkles looks dapper. Is Tom’s fly coming undone?
Chris Pratt and Anna Faris did their adorable couple dance together. Anna wore a Zuhair Murad couture gown that was fully encrusted in all manner of beads, sequins, and flotsam. I remain amazed at how Anna can choose gowns from any given designer and still look the same. She loves white and beige.
Channing Tatum walked the red carpet with wife Jenna Dewan. Jenna dressed it up in this Zuhair Murad with suprisingly few embellishments, which was nice. The runway version included a dramatic cape that would have been overkill as a +1 on the red carpet.
Zendaya Coleman wore a white satin Vivienne Westwood number. Z’s got a funky and youthful style, and this dress looks very cute on her, but the dreads look so heavy!

| Christina Aguilera in Marc Bouwer at the VF Oscar party: pretty or try-hard? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Do you remember that giraffe print gown that Piper Perabo wore to her funky wedding, which turned out to be a Michael Kors dress which both Jennifer Lopez and Naomi Campbell had worn on the red carpet before? That’s what I thought Christina Aguilera was wearing here, to the Vanity Fair Oscar party last night. This dress has a higher neck, a wider print, and it’s white and nude, not silver and nude or black and nude as we saw in the Kors version, which I liked way better. This is a pale imitation of the earlier dress, it looks cheap and it’s not that flattering. I would say Aguilera can do better, but that’s debatable.
Here’s Jessica Chastain, also in sparkly white, in H&M Conscious Collection. (Chastain switched it up from her Givenchy gown for the ceremony.) The hemline is so bad and those shoes are Jimmy Choo but they look like Aldo. Cheap. I checked with the H&M people (ok I chatted with a person online while shopping on their website) and they told me the dress is “no longer available” as it “is actually an older item which will not be coming back, unfortunately.”
She looks pretty from the waist up and at least she put waves in her hair for the after party. It was looking limp at the Oscars.
Jaime King’s is in an Altuzarra gold brocade v-neck gown with a bohemian drape. I remember that she just announced her second pregnancy. She didn’t look pregnant to me at all from the front but from the side she has a very noticeable bump.

Patricia Clarkson slayed it in a white formfitting full length dress with a criss-cross bodice. This lady is 55 years old and she does not look pulled or tucked or lasered, just amazing.
Speaking of older women looking incredible, here’s Jane Fonda, rocking another pantsuit, this one with sequins. It could do without the witchy silver shoes, but you work it, Jane.

| Diane Kruger in a Donna Karan jumpsuit at the VF Oscar party: odd or hot? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger always come out to the Vanity Fair Oscar party, even when Diane hasn?t been asked to present at the Oscars. I like that. I like that they?ve been together so long, they don?t care about being photographed together or any of that nonsense. Diane?s half-dress, half-jumpsuit is Donna Karan. I think this is so blah ? we?ve seen much better party looks on Diane in past years.
Here?s Emma Stone?s party look ? this is Altuzarra. I don?t like it.
Adam Levine & Behati Prinsloo changed out of their matching Armani gear (the red dress) for the VF party. I hate to say it, but I kind of like the nude dress on Behati more than the red.
Monica Lewinsky came to the VF party. Apparently, she befriended Thandie Newton.
Mindy Kaling in Salvador Perez. YAY! I like that she came out to party. Her dress is rather basic, but it?s flattering on her.
Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara. Is it just me or do they have absolutely no chemistry with each other in photos? I would imagine that, in private, there?s a lot of heat and grunting. But in public? It looks like they sort of hate each other.
Sam Taylor-Johnson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson came out for the VF party too. She looks nice. They look nice together.

| Julianne Moore in pale Chanel at the Oscars: style victory or shiny oatmeal? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

My wish for Julianne Moore?s Oscar dress was that she not wear something utterly embarrassing because one of her ?friends? talked her into it. Like, I get the feeling that she?s worn some bad Tom Ford gowns in the past because Tom Ford talked her into it and I wanted Julianne to just own her style and wear something simple and elegant, because the photos of Julianne holding the Oscar are going to last a lifetime.
Julianne ended up going with a custom-made (by Karl Lagerfeld) Chanel gown which took nearly a thousand hours to construct. Yes, this somewhat bland gown in a shade of ?shiny oatmeal? took a thousand hours to make. Was it worth it? No, it wasn?t. But Julianne did not embarrass herself. And I like how beautifully tailored this is. Her styling was pretty simple too ? a pretty updo and nice earrings. Not the best, but not the worst. Plus, people just love her and I think everyone?s happy that Julianne finally won an Oscar.
Viola Davis in this Zac Posen wasn?t my favorite either, but I still admired the look and of course I worship Viola. Viola was on-trend with this muted color AND with a statement necklace. I have to say, I think this gown looks better in still photos than it did in motion. Zac Posen?s gowns are famously overworked and over-designed, so it?s nice to see a more edited look from him.

| Marion Cotillard in Dior at the Oscars: retro cool or too much fabric? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Marion Cotillard was nominated again last night, which was her second Oscar nomination (I could have sworn she had more) and she of course has one Academy Award already, for 2007?s La Vie en Rose. This year Marion was nominated for a French language Belgian film that barely anyone has seen called Two Days, One Night. (I did see her in The Immigrant, she was excellent in that and she was up for a Spirit Award for that role, which went to Julianne Moore.) As per usual, Marion was in Dior, and as we’ve come to expect, it was offbeat. She was in an all white sleeveless Dior gown with a slight side train and a large circle print.
Cotillard was styled in a late 50s/early 60s vibe, and the whole look is very Zooey Deschanel at the Golden Globes. Plus the dress had tons of gathered fabric at the back that ended in a black band under her butt. So weird.
This is what Cotillard wore to the Vanity Fair Oscar party, and it’s not much better. I’m glad she didn’t wear this strange dress to the ceremony. What happens when Marion collaborates at Dior? Do they drink pastis, smoke hash and come up with the strangest designs possible, using the most fabric? This dress is like the top of Julianne Moore’s Spirit Awards dress (also Dior) meets the bottom of Bjork’s swan dress (Valentino) with a giant black band at the waist topped with a jaunty white sash, tied into a half-assed bow. Just no.

| Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford at the Oscars: lovely or tedious? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman posed together on the red carpet for some reason. I mean, I?m sure they know each other and they both have that CAA connection, but they seemed extra friendly last night.
Let?s start with Reese. She wore this Tom Ford that reads in photos like off-white, but I think it?s a very pale blue. It?s Tom Ford and the fit is beautiful and flattering, but I also think that the black shoulder thing looks uncomfortable. She looked like she had a rubber band holding her arms down. Reese accessorized with Tiffany?s jewels. I know this because she tweeted her styling details before she left her house, and then when she got on the red carpet, she promoted the #AskHerMore crap, which lead to an hour of awkwardness on the ABC red carpet show ? which people only watch BECAUSE WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT FASHION – where no one asked anyone about their dresses. So stupid. Jesus.
And here?s Nicole Kidman in Louis Vuitton. Because of the stupid #AskHerMore BS, it took a while to get the ID on Kidman?s dress. The NYT Fashion tweeter noted that everybody thought Kidman?s dress looked super-cheap and then as soon as it was ID?d as Louis Vuitton, everyone changed their tune. For what it?s worth, I do think it looks cheap but I don?t even hate it. It?s interesting and I?m glad she didn?t wear some frilly, lacy thing. She goes to “grandmother’s lace doily” too often, and I think this dress looks sort of fun. But I could barely pay attention to the gown because Nicole has been Botoxing for so long, her face is set at a permanent frozen scowl. She looked like she was going to spit on someone while she was presenting. Something nice: her hair looked great.

| Gwyneth Paltrow in pink Ralph & Russo at the Oscars: love it or hate it? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
I always think it?s funny when someone I ?love to hate? shows up and I give them the benefit of the doubt or I flat-out like their look, and everyone yells at me for not hating it. That?s what happened with Jennifer Aniston ? I genuinely liked her Versace, even though most people believed I should loathe it. And I?m sure it will happen again with Gwyneth Paltrow and her Oscar gown: she wore Ralph & Russo Couture with a big floral arrangement on one shoulder. You know what? I LIKE IT.
The dress reminds me of something although I haven?t been able to place the reference. (Oh, I just got it: Angelina Jolie did the shoulder-flower Ralph & Russo years ago.) I feel like Goop is referencing her own Oscar-winning moment with the color, right? Gwyneth famously wore that cotton-candy Pink Ralph Lauren and I feel like this petal-pink shade is a throwback to that. One thing I?ll give the critics: her hair was not the best. But at least she didn?t do a flat-ironed center part, eh?
People were complaining about her jewelry too. PEASANTS!!! Gwyneth got paid to wear Anna Hu jewelry ? the $425,000 earrings were cabochon Rubellites with white and yellow diamonds, plus sapphires and tourmalines. She also wore a ring made of ?rare 6.27-carat pigeon-blood Burmese ruby, Pink diamonds and brilliant-cut white diamonds, set in rose and white gold.?
And here?s Gwyneth?s BFF (in her mind) Beyonce, at the Vanity Fair party. Beyonce wore Stella McCartney (the dress) with a J. Mendel white fox bolero. I don?t hate the Stella dress, but I?m pretty sure Sam Taylor Johnson already wore it during the Fifty Shades promotional tour.

| Cate Blanchett in John Galliano at the Oscars: perfection or too undone? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
As the returning Best Actress winner, attending just to present Best Actor, Cate Blanchett was under no obligation to wow us. But still, she?s Cate Blanchett, a goddess walking among us. Of course we believed that she was going to look amazing. And I think she did! Cate wore this Maison Margiela by John Galliano. Galliano is one of her favorite designers, and she has a history of wearing Galliano?s designs to the Oscars in particular. Even after Galliano?s troubles several years ago, he?s kept the loyalty of several big-name fashionistas, and I have to say? this dress makes me miss Galliano?s designs. The gown is understated without being boring. It suits Cate perfectly. The details are interesting (the fringe at the shoulder!) and the cut is flawless.
Cate paired her simple black gown with a big turquoise statement necklace from Tiffany?s. That was it. That was her only piece of jewelry. I kind of like how undone it is, but I wouldn?t have minded seeing some earrings. The big necklace was a trend last night too, and I think Cate was one of the best examples of it. Also: she seemed almost tender and motherly with Eddie Redmayne. She gave him such a big hug when he won!
Meryl Streep wore this custom-made Lanvin which is kind of boring, but it?s Meryl and she?s done this literally fifty million times, so she probably just wanted to be comfortable. I?m sort of surprised that her husband Don came out!
This is going to sound rude but I honestly mean it as a compliment: I love Oprah when she?s bigger. Truly. I think she looks so beautiful these days. Oprah was one of the producers on Selma, so she got the Oscars invite and she came out in this petal-pink Vera Wang gown, custom-made. I think she looks great, right?

| Rosamund Pike vs. Jessica Chastain at the Oscars: who had the better Givenchy? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
Rosamund Pike of course had the better Givenchy look last night, there’s pretty much no question. Rosamund’s crimson gown featured a fan-like bustline, layers of lace, seqyins and embroidery that somehow didn’t look busy and smooth fabric that gave the illusion of cinching her waist. This dress was beautiful, and she didn’t distract from it at all. Her styling was minimal and somehow just right. At yesterday’s Women in Film pre-Oscar party, Pike’s makeup was way underdone and I was worried she would make that mistake again. She didn’t, she just looked natural and fresh. Incredible. One minor complaint: the shoes could be less safe and matchy.
Also in Givenchy, with less success, we have Jessica Chastain. At least she’s wearing a bold color. Chastain’s dress draped down in both the front and back, giving it a kind of toga illusion. The front opened up to a sequin tank in a deeper navy than the rest of the dress. It looks like two different gowns layered on top of each other. The dress hugs Chastain perfectly, but it’s all too cookie cutter somehow. I also wish she would have done something different with her hair. Incredible necklace though, those are Piaget jewels.

| Keira Knightley in Valentino at the Oscars: too twee or brilliantly unusual? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
I?ve combined Felicity Jones and Keira Knightley in posts throughout the awards season, because they?ve disappointed me the whole awards season. Keira used to be such a Fashion Girl. She even got to the point where everything she wore was noteworthy and discussed at length. But that was before the fetus stole her mojo. Keira?s entire red carpet campaign this year has just been? disappointing. A missed opportunity to show off some crazy, awesome maternity styles. Instead, Keira has veered too far into the twee-ness and cutesy crap. Her red carpet Oscar gown was Valentino and? NO. I?m sorry, I can?t with this. I know some of you love it, but I just can?t. The stupid nude tulle, the writing on the dress, the flowers? it?s bad, you guys.
I think Keira knew it was bad too, so she changed into a different Valentino gown for the parties. She should have reversed these gowns ? the nude Valentino for the parties and this dark velvet gown for the Oscars.
And here?s the other disappointing British fashion girl Felicity Jones, the only one (??) at the Oscars wearing Sarah Burton for McQueen. It sounded like Sarah Burton customized this gown for Felicity especially, so why is the design so awkward above the waist? Like, I understand the inclination to do a BIG princess dress. This was Felicity?s first Oscar nomination, her first Oscars, why not go big? But from the waist up, I?m sorry, I don?t think this is flattering.

| Julianne Moore wins Best Actress Oscar for 'still Alice' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

While Julianne Moore?s Best Actress Oscar win wasn?t a surprise, it was more than welcome. Julianne?s awards reign this season reminded me of Jeff Bridges? winning streak several years ago for Crazy Heart. We don?t even really remember Bridges? performance in that one particular film, but it was more about it being ?his turn? and ?his time.? Same with Julianne ? is Still Alice her greatest work ever? No, because it?s just another wonderful performance in a career of strong work. Julianne got this because it was her turn, her time and all of the stars aligned for her. And good for her.
Julianne was emotional and funny when she won. At the Spirit Awards, Julianne joked/told the truth about the miniscule budget on Still Alice, saying that she brought her own bras and her own food to the set. For her Oscar speech, it did feel like fait accompli so the emotion wasn?t as strong, but still, she was jazzed.
She thanked her management team first, then her family, then the cast and crew on Still Alice. She spoke about what it meant to play someone with Alzheimer?s and represent their struggles and ?people with Alzheimer?s deserve to be seen.? Finally, she thanked her husband and her children, saying: ?Thank you for my life, thank you for giving me a home!?
Yay for Julianne!!
