Rosamund Pike made a lot of ?best dressed? lists for the Golden Globes and people kept talking about how well she rocked that severe, black-widow look. Maybe she took that personally, because she?s been wearing lighter and brighter looks ever since. Rosamund wore this sparkly Rodarte to the Golden Globes and I have mixed feelings. It could have been great if the fit was better, I think? And the center-part is simply too severe for Rosamund. The color is lovely though.
Quinta Brunson in George Hobeika. Seriously one of the cutest dresses I?ve ever seen on Quinta. She should absolutely stick with this designer!
Colman Domingo might have been the best-dressed person at the Critics Choice. His Valentino ensemble was amazing. That coat alone is magnificent.
Fantasia Barrino in Alin Le Kal. It?s a lovely look, honestly, but it?s too much for the Critics Choice!
Danielle Brooks in Monsoori. I?ve surprised myself by how much I like this? Usually, I hate gowns which are just sacks with a bow, but this is really cute on her.

| Rosamund Pike in Givenchy at 'A Private War' premiere: goth glam or too severe' | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Many people believe that Rosamund Pike will probably get an Oscar nomination this season. She stars in A Private War, about the life and work of journalist Marie Colvin, who is generally regarded as one of the bravest war journalists of the modern era. Colvin was killed in Syria in 2012 at the age of 56. I?m actually looking forward to seeing this, even though I know it will be incredibly depressing. I just watched the trailer too, and it made me cry:
Rosamund premiered the film at the London Film Festival over the weekend. She decided to go for dark, gothic glamour and? I?m not really feeling it. The Oscar season is so long, and if you?re being tipped for big things, I feel like more actors should consider their ?style story? for the promotion. This sort of dark, gothic look doesn?t really speak to the film, right? The gown is Givenchy. Oh, and I dislike her styling too Rosamund is such an English-rose beauty, and everything about this is way too severe.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw is not credited on A Private War?s IMDB page, so I don?t know why she attended the LFF premiere? Maybe she?s friendly with Rosamund. Gugu wore this cheap-looking Emilia Wickstead dress which is totally beneath her. She?s another beauty who needs a better stylist.
Also at the London Film Festival: Amandla Stenberg CAME TO SLAY in this gorgeous Valentino gown at The Hate U Give premiere. She looks so grown up, my God.

| Rosamund Pike vs. Jessica Chastain at the Oscars: who had the better Givenchy? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Rosamund Pike of course had the better Givenchy look last night, there’s pretty much no question. Rosamund’s crimson gown featured a fan-like bustline, layers of lace, seqyins and embroidery that somehow didn’t look busy and smooth fabric that gave the illusion of cinching her waist. This dress was beautiful, and she didn’t distract from it at all. Her styling was minimal and somehow just right. At yesterday’s Women in Film pre-Oscar party, Pike’s makeup was way underdone and I was worried she would make that mistake again. She didn’t, she just looked natural and fresh. Incredible. One minor complaint: the shoes could be less safe and matchy.
Also in Givenchy, with less success, we have Jessica Chastain. At least she’s wearing a bold color. Chastain’s dress draped down in both the front and back, giving it a kind of toga illusion. The front opened up to a sequin tank in a deeper navy than the rest of the dress. It looks like two different gowns layered on top of each other. The dress hugs Chastain perfectly, but it’s all too cookie cutter somehow. I also wish she would have done something different with her hair. Incredible necklace though, those are Piaget jewels.

| Rosamund Pike at the Women In Film Pre-Oscar Cocktail Party: lovely or bizarre? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Quite a few women came out for the Women In Film Pre-Oscar Cocktail Party last night, but from what I can tell most of the nominees went to the Tom Ford show instead, with the exception of Rosamund Pike. (Technically it was probably possible for them to attend both events, since I spotted Emily Ratajkowski in the same dress at both.) I don’t have an ID for Rosamund’s gown, but it looks like Carolina Herrera to me. Rosamund isn’t loyal to a single designer, she likes to switch it up all the time, so it’s hard to tell. This is an lovely gown with some great details. I love how the flowers kind of bleed into the skirt from the side of the bodice. I’m interested to see what she’ll wear to the Oscars. One complaint: the ruffles on the top need to go. Also this look could use more eye makeup.
Also in need of bolder makeup (that’s just a peeve of mine as I’m a makeup person, no offense to those of you who don’t need it, you lucky bitches) we have Michelle Monaghan in Roksanda. Red Carpet Fashion Awards has a photo of this dress as styled for the runway and it originally had a gold belt. It needs the belt to break up the switch in the pattern from the top to the bottom. There’s no excuse for that switch at the hemline though. The bold lines in this contemporary dress need to seamlessly flow into one another, not change abruptly.
Carmen Ejogo was in a pale v-neck floor length gown with a high leg slit and black side panels. From the front this dress is very Angelina Jolie and sack-like. From the side it’s a little more interesting. In photos, from far away, this looks monotone but there are actually tiny black squares all over the gown. This is how you do red carpet makeup. You may tone down the eyes a bit but you pair them with a bold lip.
Elle Fanning was washed out in a multi-pastel gown featuring layers of ruffled chiffon. She looks like a wood sprite at an Easter ball. Look at her pointy yellow shoes!
Also in the gallery we have photos of Laura Dern (cool pantsuit, bad shoes), Jennifer Hudson (hot but boring), Meryl Streep (comfy), Kate Walsh (beyond fug) and Lake Bell (great little dress).

| Rosamund Pike in Roland Mouret at the BAFTAs: boring or beautiful? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Rosamund Pike has started to impress me with the sheer fact that she?s an utter style omnivore. She has not repeated a designer at any major event during the awards season, and she?s sprinkled in designers from America, Britain, Italy and France. At last night?s BAFTAs, she went with a simple Roland Mouret gown in black. While the gown isn?t ?Look at me, look at me!!? I still like it. Mostly because it?s the prettiest and most flattering thing she?s worn in months.
Dame Kristin Scott Thomas (yes, she?s a Dame now!) wore this vintage 1948 Balmain haute couture gown. I mean, it?s a beautiful dress. And I love that she wore honest-to-God vintage. But this black dress doesn?t stand out at all.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Prada. This is the unfortunate ?signature? of Prada gowns, and how I knew this was a Prada gown before I even saw the ID: terrible, horrible, borderline obscene darting on the bust. Remember Anne Hathaway?s Prada gown at the Oscars a few years ago? And all anyone could talk about was her #DartFail? Yeah. That happened with poor Gugu in this dress too. If Prada could design a dress bust worth a damn, this would actually be one of my favorite looks of the night.
Here?s Sam Claflin and his wife Laura Haddock. She?s wearing a princessy Ashi Couture gown. People on Twitter loved it, but I found it underwhelming. I?m sure I would have loved it on Lupita, but Lupita would have worn it differently, you know?

| Rosamund Pike & Chelsea Clinton's friendship ended because of Obama | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

God, I still can?t believe Rosamund Pike wore this fugly Dior mullet dress to the SAGs. I?m so disappointed in you, Rosamund!!
Anyway, I have what is easier the most random story of the week: Rosamund Pike knows Chelsea Clinton. They were friends back in the day. They met at Oxford, according to Star Magazine. I?m trying to figure out if they really could have met back then ? Rosamund studied (or ?read? in the British system) English literature and she graduated in 2001. Chelsea began her graduate work at Oxford the same year. I really don?t see how they could have met? However, I also found this old Rosamund Pike interview where there?s a mention that she and Chelsea were friends at Oxford, although Rosamund doesn?t confirm it. There?s also a mention of their friendship in this old Telegraph article, which claims Rosamund and Chelsea became friends at an Oxford party. Who knows? Well, for argument?s sake, let?s say they met (maybe) and they were friends (eh). Star says they had a falling out over politics!
Rosmaund Pike and Chelsea Clinton were once BFFs ? until politics got in the way. Chelsea and Rosamund met when they were both studying at Oxford University and quickly bonded over their many common interests, including the German language, in which they?re both fluent.
?They became really close and hung out a lot,? says a source. ?They?d sometimes speak to each other in German.?
The friendship lasted right up until the 2008 election, when Chelsea?s mom, Hillary Clinton, was campaigning against Barack Obama.
?They had a talk one night about politics, and Rosamund made it clear that she preferred Obama?s political beliefs over Hillary?s,? the source says. ?Chelsea rally took it to heart.? After that, their friendship was gone, girl.
[From Star Magazine, print edition]
Most Europeans wanted Obama to be president in 2008. It was the fashionable thing back then. Besides, it?s not like Rosamund was voting in the primaries! But it just goes to show you ? Chelsea might be more like her parents than we will ever know. Once a Clinton cuts you off, there will be no forgiveness.
By the way, Hillary is taking her sweet time announcing her next presidential run, isn?t she? I suspect she will announce once those pesky Bubba & Jeffrey Epstein headlines die down. Bubba?s going to ruin her chances once again.

| Rosamund Pike in Vera Wang at the Globes: uncomfortable or pretty? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Rosamund Pike was trending on Twitter for a while last night after she was one of the first major stars to walk the Golden Globes red carpet. This might be controversial, but I don?t think any new mom should wear this. Rosamund said that Vera Wang had made this for her especially, so it?s not like Rosamund picked this off the rack or something. Vera Wang thought this gown was utterly appropriate for a lady who only gave birth a month ago. For the record, I?m not saying Rosamund has anything to be ashamed of or that new moms should be at home, in the kitchen or something. I just think a recently postpartum lady should not be left so? EXPOSED. The cut-outs on the sides were too much. Also: Rosamund confirmed that she had a boy, but she refused to say his name.
Julianna Margulies wore this Ulyana Sergeenko and Bulgari jewels. This was a disappointment, right? Right. Usually Julianna has great style and she knows her body and what looks good. But this is just? blah.
Robin Wright in Ralph Lauren, and back with Ben Foster. I guess they made up. Huh. I wonder if the engagement is back on? As for her Ralph Lauren? it?s okay. Eh.

| Rosamund Pike: 'I do think separation is key to a relationship' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
|
I?m still trying to make Rosamund Pike happen in a bigger way. I?m going to write about her until everyone agrees with me!!! As I said on Monday, I think Rosamund deserves some awards-season attention for Gone Girl. She was fantastic. My only complaint was that she needed more screen time ? it?s Amy?s story, not Nick?s story. I kind of wish the press around the film?s success was ?wow, Rosamund Pike is a fantastic actress? and not ?Ben Affleck isn?t so bad after all.?
Part of the problem with the disparity in media coverage might be that Affleck has always been tabloid friendly ? he?s always been good for a headline, a scandal, a controversy of some kind. Rosamund is not. Rosamund seems well-adjusted, she?s rarely in the UK tabloids (which is a remarkable feat) and she seems to have a quiet family life with her partner Robie Uniacke. They?ve been together for years. She?s 35 and he?s 53. He?s an ex-heroin addict and they’re expecting their second child together. That?s as scandalous as it gets with Rosamund. In a new interview, Rosamund talked about expectations in relationships and how she doesn?t expect her partner to complete her:
Even though she is not married herself, Miss Pike has revealed forthright views on matrimony during interviews about the movie. The actress, who is expecting her second child with partner Robie Uniacke, said we demand too much of our spouses nowadays, telling Spectrum magazine: ‘People have ridiculous expectations of a mate. In my grandmother’s day, you wouldn’t expect your husband to fulfill the same need in you as your sister, or girlfriends, or colleagues at work. You’d have different needs met by different people.?
?Now we want all our needs met by one person, and I don’t believe that’s possible. Or rather, it is, but I don’t think it’s universally achievable. I do think separation is key to a relationship. I go out with my partner and we are put next to each other ? there’s a feeling of, ‘What, you don’t think we can’t operate without each other?’ I don’t need him as a crutch. Of course, he’s the person I want to go home with but he’s not necessarily the person I want to sit next to. I’d rather meet someone new, and he would too.’
[From The Daily Mail]
Prepare yourselves, because I?m about to talk about how much I love my alone-time. Seriously, I understand what Rosamund is saying because I?m the same way. I don?t understand those couples who need to be together all the time. Nothing drives me up the wall like someone who is constantly underfoot or someone who can?t be alone or can?t amuse themselves apart from me (or their partner or whatever). Read a book! Talk to someone new! Or, you know, just be alone because being by yourself, alone with your thoughts, is important too. And I agree with her on the whole idea of not needing or wanting one person to be all things – how boring is that?
PS… Here’s something else I like: we don’t have any photos of Rosamund and Robie together. I mean, they’ve been photographed together before, but they’re not the couple that holds hands on the red carpet every time she has something to promote. She just goes off and does her thing and he waits for her at home.

| Will Rosamund Pike earn an Oscar nomination for 'Gone Girl?' (spoilers) | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
I saw Gone Girl over the weekend, like many American adults. Gone Girl unexpectedly won the box office this weekend, getting $38 million in ticket sales from the over-18 crowd. Actually, most analysts believe that Gone Girl?s audience was over 25 years old, which makes sense. It?s a dark thriller about violence and ennui in the suburbs and it was very much a hard-R rating, with profanity, nudity and gore galore.
SPOILERS BELOW.
First, what I really liked: I loved everything with Rosamund Pike. She was pitch-perfect of the two versions of Amy, the first half of Amy from her diary and then the ?real? Amy. She was just great, playing at sympathetic and then turning on a dime to be as cold as ice. I wanted more Rosamund. I also enjoyed Carrie Coon as Nick?s twin sister. She was basically perfect in the role. Neil Patrick Harris could have easily been creepier, but he was wonderful in his role too. As for Tyler Perry?s turn as Nick?s lawyer? he was great. Seriously.
What I had mixed feelings about: Ben Affleck and how he dominated the story. Reading the book, Amy haunts the first half, an eerie specter watching over the events with her diary. The second half should have been full-on Amy too, where we see the real girl. But Nick Dunne was too busy telling his side of the story, and the whole film felt lop-sided because of it. Which isn?t to say that the Batfleck was bad. I only had a problem with him at the very beginning, when he felt miscast (to me), but then I was absorbed in the story and he did pretty well. At the end of the day, I still think he was miscast though? Nick needed to be younger than Amy and it threw off the whole marriage dynamic in the film. But Affleck should be proud of his work.
So, the question has already come up: will Gone Girl win any awards? Will it be rewarded with Oscar buzz? I thought Rosamund was perfect, as I said, but I think her potential Best Actress campaign will be hampered by the fact that it?s not Amy?s movie, it?s Nick?s movie. At an Oscar screening over the weekend, many Oscar voters felt the same way. The LA Times reports that while people enjoyed the film, no one is really buzzing about Rosamund:
Academy members we spoke to were fairly equally divided between devotees of the novel and those who came to the movie without any existing knowledge of the story — as much as that is possible given the scrutiny the film has received since premiering at the New York Film Festival last week.
“I didn?t want to know anything about the movie before I saw it, but I kept hearing people talking about Ben Affleck?s penis,” one academy member, a screenwriter, said. “Now I know why. It?s a more fully realized character here than the one Pike plays.”
That complaint was echoed by multiple academy members who had read the book and came away dissatisfied with the character balance in the adaptation.
“It probably couldn’t be helped,” one voter said, “because of the way the book alternates between her story and his. The movie, it’s mostly Affleck. You don’t hear enough of her voice, and it throws the whole thing off.”
“Gone Girl” screened for New York-based academy members Tuesday, with star Rosamund Pike interviewed afterward. There was no Q&A following Saturday’s screening at the Goldwyn. The audience clapped when the closing credits began to roll, but there was no applause when they finished. Contrasted to most movies that go on to win a best picture nomination, it was a rather subdued reaction, particularly given the buzz that was in the room when the film began.
[From The LA Times]
The LAT goes on to quote people saying that they admired Fincher?s faithful adaptation (and seriously, a lot of the book ended up on the screen) and technical skill, but it?s just not a film you ?love? and want to root for come awards season.
Two more notes and yes these are spoiler-y too. I missed seeing Desi?s mom. Her character was didn?t make it into the script and that was one of the characters from the book I really missed. And finally, everybody is talking about the ending, but really? it ended similarly to the book. With a whimper, not a bang. Unsettled but not terrified.

Here are some glamorous shots of seven-months pregnant Rosamund Pike outside of Rockefeller Center yesterday. She stopped by Today to talk about Gone Girl, which opens next Friday. I?m looking forward to it! Even with The Batfleck. Anyway, I?ve been looking for a reason to write more about Rosamund, because I like her and I want to see her career get a big bump from this film. So far, the reviews are complimentary towards her. Like, Rosamund and Neil Patrick Harris are the strongest parts of this film. Some critics have mixed feelings about the Batfleck and director David Fincher. But the film has an 87% critics? score at Rotten Tomatoes. So, overwhelmingly positive. Here?s a just-released clip of Amy and Nick?s meet-cute:
It?s what I keep saying? Rosamund was a brilliant casting choice but for the love of God, I really don?t think the Batfleck was right for Nick. Many of you disagree with me. That?s fine. It should have been James Marsden or Chris Pine. Someone boyish.
As for Rosamund, she gave an interesting interview this week about how lucky she is to be with a dude who is 18 years old than her. She?s 35 ? her partner Robie Uniacke is 53. He?s also a recovering heroin addict, which I didn?t know. Here?s what Pike had to say about all of that:
On Robie: ?I have a very clever partner who?s got a very astute mind and is very, very well read and articulate and ruthless about how something I do might play out on screen. My tendency is to identify with a character and imagine there is more on the page than there is. He?s quite good at putting a check on that.?
Her past relationships: In her twenties, Pike was engaged to Joe Wright, the director, who called off their wedding after the ‘save the date? cards had been dispatched. Before that she was in a relationship with the actor Simon Woods, who turned to to be gay. But she denies she doesn?t have a good ?radar for men?. She told The Times magazine: ?I?m still proud to have been in a relationship with them. They?re all people I admire. Even if you get hurt by someone … they?re people I?m happy to have shared time with.?
Living with an older man: ?The idea that you go for an older man because you think you?re less likely to be left by him, that?s the biggest pile of crap ever. I have the good fortune of living with a very fearless person, which has been wonderful. It checks me.?
[From The Telegraph]
Yeah, I think she?s in denial about her man-radar. I mean, I don?t know her current partner at all and if she says she?s happy, God bless. But it?s a little bit weird/funny that she ended up with the 18-years-older ex-heroin addict, because that doesn?t really say to me ?wow, Rosamund really knows how to pick ?em.? Oh, and I remember when Joe Wright canceled their wedding at the last minute ? it was really awful for her! Yeah, she has bad man mojo.
